I love the camera for both video and still photos, especially the zoom capability and the image stabilization. I shoot tons of stills on vacations and think the AX53 does a very good job at 16.6 megapixels, a lot better than my phone (no zoom capability) or my wife's point and shoot. I really can't say much negative about the camera, except for the singularity of use of manual controls, and the lack of 60p in 4K, which causes a stuttering effect when panning.
Great review, I bought this camera here in UK but our version only records PAL so 25/50/100 fps Thats no good to me as all my other cameras record in 30/60/120 fps. I had to return it and will now buy the US version
How did it work out for you Kevin? 30/60 frame rates can cause a noticeable flickering with mains-powered lights (particularly LED and fluorescent) in countries with 50 Hz AC.
I am about to buy this camera. Little surprised that you think that is not wide angle. it is much wide angle that popular Canon G7X. that is why I want to buy it - because of wide angle.
I got this camcorder like 2 months ago & just opened it yesterday, I will practice shooting alot more this weekend BUT I gotta say the image quality with its SUPERB stabilization is too hard to come buy,I got my camcorder to shoot the NHRA NATIONAL EVENT in Sonoma this July & the finals in Pomona this November among the California state fair this year along with trips to San Francisco, Los Angeles & Sacramento not to mention other trips.
for me the biggest pro is the battery life but the biggest con is the angle isnt wide eneugh and since i film abandoned places im ussually in small spaces so wide angle is importnant . do you know if the canon m50 has good battery life? I think combining that with a crane gimbal will be great setup Im just scared the battery is bad because its so small .
I was really pissed off today with my AX53 im sure i had to turn the Focusing Ring no less than 20 times to Manually focus with it,i usually film Common Buzzards in the Sky if i use Auto Focus i hate when it jumps in and out of Focus so i usually use Manual Focus.
great video, wonder if you or someone here can help, I have this camera and the MOVO external mic. When recording outside I get terrible distortion on the speech like when a DAB radio breaks up. I have wind cancellation turned off and rec volume at 5 +. Is this normal or do you think this is a fault with the camera. you had see the problem on my channel
I bought one of these about 6months ago and have an issue, after i started to use a high capacity micro SD card it seems the camers does NOT like it and gives me problems recording and it p#sses me off. I have just replaced it with a 32Gb standard card and it seems just fine, do you know of any reason for my problem, Never had this problem with my trusty Nat Pan I used for 12yrs, mind you its does have a massive hard drive about 64Gb if i remember and that was never a problem to record or download to computer but this bloody Sony uses SD cards which I find stupid. Would add I am pleased with the quality videos I get from it.
Thanks for he video, QUESTION: I'm stuck between getting this camera (ax53) and the ax700 your opinion would be appreciated. The ax53 is better in low light , but the ax700 has autofocus tracking not sure which to get.
I just ordered the Camcorder Video Camera YEEHAO WiFi HD 1080P 24MP 16X Powerful Digital Zoom Camera with Microphone what is your opinion on this camcorder
It is easy to get a wide conversion lens. They are available in anything from fisheye to 0.8x. Your bigger problem is avoiding vignetting with the stabilisation. That means either working with stabilisation turned off, or using a bigger lens with a step up ring.16x9 brand is excellent for the money but expect to pay north of $400. Raynox is good enough and much cheaper at around $280and up. Sounds expensive but you keep the lens for a lifetime and they fit multiple cameras. The cheap $40 lenses always degrade image quality too much.
Just recently watched your video as I have an AX53, question you mentioned that you use an external microphone . Will a Rode Mic work on the Sony camcorder such as the Rode MicGoII? thank you
Thanks for a very informative review! I am evaluating to buy Sony AX53, Panasonic WXF991K or Canon HF-G21. Any recommendation from you? Also, is it easy to control the zooming speed of AX53. I have been using a few under $500 camcorders and it is very difficult to control reasonable variable zoom speed; it is usually either too slow and too fast. Tks!
Hello thanks for this Videos. I want buy this camera. But on the market they have Sony FDR AX53 and Sony FDR AX53E. My question what is different from this type? The Sony FDR AX53E more 250$ more expensive
Yep. Chuck Mere from ZombieGoBoom recommended this camera to me, and after watching this I'm even more convinced I need it! Thanks, dude! I subscribed. :)
Hi, can you help me to choose 4k video camera between sony ax100 - ax53 ? Use it for youtube , maybe in car and outdoor interview and my cat.. I 'm beginner :) and i'm looking stabilization, focusing and low light situation.
Hey! Thanks for uploading! :) I'm new to the video hobby. Got a Phantom 3 Pro drone but just bought an AX53 as well. I'm just wondering if this camera support the ability to put on ND filters? How do I know which ND filter fits the AX53? Do you recommend something? I'm not so sure about (the almost non-existent) information I get when I search the web.
Hey Bruce, if you go under MENU -> CAMERA/MIC. Does it have White Balance, Exposure, Focus, IRIS, Shutter Speed and Low Lux listed? On my HDR-PJ-440 I can set the white balance to One Push, Daylight, Tungsten or WB Auto. I normally put mine to One Push or Daylight. Then I can set the Exposure to Manual. It still lets me keep my WB. I have no idea why Sony would not let a higher end Handycam like the AX53 not at least let you set the WB and Exposure at the same time. I know we talked breifly about the AX53 before, but I was wondering if you tried those two settings together. Cheers, Joe
Do you have a microphone attachment for this camera that you recommend? My dad plays some shows here and there with his band and this camera will usually be filming him from across the room a good bit away so I want great audio and sometimes I'll be filming him outdoors but that is pretty rare. Thanks!

The quality from this camera is really good for the price. I've compared it to multiple newer cameras and the footage just looks better out of this!

This is how reviews should be made, Great review man .. Thank you
26.8mm is not bad at all! I would think it was awesome if I owned it.
You got a great voice to listen to btw, I could hear you talk all day :)
I am about to buy this camera. Little surprised that you think that is not wide angle. it is much wide angle that popular Canon G7X. that is why I want to buy it - because of wide angle.
Did you buy the AX53 Lesia? I have a G7X and I'm thinking about the AX53 too.
I'm about to buy an AX53 as the camcorder with the most bang for the buck though it is already over my budget. Thanks for this advice.
They are very good value
Won't any 55mm wide angle filter type lens work?
for me the biggest pro is the battery life but the biggest con is the angle isnt wide eneugh and since i film abandoned places im ussually in small spaces so wide angle is importnant . do you know if the canon m50 has good battery life? Thanks for the review. Three years on, I wonder if Sony will release a successor?
Most likely

I love MSI GPU behind you :) Thank you for this review.
hello
What are you using to film this review? How many pixels?

Yes, but you will need a hot shoe adapter because of the small pins in the Sony hot shoe
@@TheBoomerConsumer Thank you very much!
I have the same camera. It’s a real good camera when it was working. However the touchscreen is no longer working. I can no longer use the camera.
Hello Bruce, where did you get this video camera for less than $900?
$850 at amazon as of 4-6-18
Found it on Ebay for the same price.

...E is Europe (PAL), I guess.
Can a lens hood be attached to it and what size?
How is the wide angel compared with Sony CX-900E?
What is the night vision video like...?
Yep. Chuck Mere from ZombieGoBoom recommended this camera to me, and after watching this I'm even more convinced I need it! Thanks, dude! I subscribed. :)
Thanks for reviu, is very helpful, especially for Cons

Can't recommend a ND filter, but the filter would need to be 55mm.
Ok, thanks a lot!
thank you for making this review!!
Nicely explained , its a great Cam
Is it worth at $1k in October 2018?
Who else looked at the parrot to see if it would move?100 thumbs up great vid I just purchased thks camera thanks for all your hard work.
He actually does move and talk when he has batteries lol
It would be nice if Sony made a wide angle lens for the camera.
It would make it an ideal vlogging camera for sure
Hey dude! Nice video
Thanks
Thanks
Is there an external audio input?
Josh Smalley yes it’s on top of the camera

Not sure why, but any manual adjustments to WB other than compensation sets all exposure settings back to auto
