@Chris Stevens - She didn’t die of natural causes (old age). She was 79 and became suddenly ill and passed away suddenly. The nature of her illness was never disclosed. I would of thought John McVie would of passed first considering he’s been in poor health for quite awhile, as well as a Cancer survivor. Regardless, Christine will be missed but her music will live on forever. So, in essence she will live on forever….
Me also, I heard the album version the other day, you can't feel the same feeling they are in the album version, like you can here. Christine's voice is amazing Lindsey's hair is awesome
@@brucehanson6427 - too right. The only thing that makes it more soulful in any way is the intimacy of live performance by Chris. Lindsey seems entirely bored and disinterested as he often did on material that pre-dated his tenure with the band, and Stevie Nicks' harmonies - way too loud - sound entirely out of place. The LP version is far superior with the harmonies overdubbed by Christine and Welch's guitar work supporting it more beautifully.
An appropriately sad, soulful and brilliant song on the day we lost another one of classic rock's greats. Thank you Christine for so many great songs and this amazing one, your best in my opinion. RIP
Such a beautiful song, especially with the addition of Stevie and Lindsey to Christine’s vocals......it’s like listening to the angels sing......pure magic💞💞💞💞💞
@@Retroearthling - In the link below you'll find the proper mix for this performance that unlike this one in which Nicks' harmonies drown out Christine's vocals, is no longer the case and can now be heard clearly. Hope you find it to your liking. ruclips.net/video/QxjDHw5FtOA/видео.html
@@Retroearthling - Sorry, clearly it hasn't the quality of sound that the one first posted does, it's just that it was properly mixed, something the RUclipsr who enhanced that sound, clearly screwed up. Here's another live studio performance of "Why", this one from 1975 and a bit rough, so while I don't whether it will please you, it's worth a look and listen. > ruclips.net/video/dZm0QiOIXfs/видео.html
A 26 year old Buckingham earning his chops as FM's lead and only guitarist, which is quite remarkable considering up until that point the Mac had always had between 3 - 2 guitarists in the band! His contributions, vision, and uncompromising perfection in his craft, is his legacy within Fleetwood Mac. Stevie Nicks rose higher in fame than Lindsey ever did but she will be the first to admit that Lindsey had a great deal to do with her reaching that accomplishment. In 2022 (at the age of 72), Lindsey is still creating music and performing 2 hour long sets without breaks or compromise. Legendary is an understatement.
@@lmkk9118 - Me too. I reside in Texas and I saw him at the Sugarland and Dallas venues (Dec. 2021). Having seen him perform 4 other times (tours) throughout the years, I must say not much has changed….performances were filled with energy and were magical in the sense of entertainment!
@@utbabee - Yes it was. I saw him again this past 10/27/22, in Louisville, Kentucky @ the Brown Theater. Not quite the same tour as the 2021 but enjoyable nonetheless. Noticeably absent was Brett Tuggle (keyboardist, bass, backing vocals), who passed from cancer (06/22 - RIP). Lindsey has been dealing with health issues and now with the passing of Christine McVie, I’m a little concerned. It’s a sad time (RIP - Christine).
That's true except for the 1974 album "Heroes are Hard to Find" which was the last album before the Buckingham/Nicks era. For that album, Bob Welch was the sole guitarist for the Mac. Immediately after that album was released, Welch quit and we know the rest of the story. So when Buckingham was hired he was only replacing Welch and the tradition of having two guitarists was actually ended about a year before Buckingham/Nicks joined.
This song is one the Best put out by Fleetwood Mac regardless of who was in the band. P.S. The LP "Mystery to me" as good as any that followed. RIP Christine
One of the first glimpses of what went on to be a that unique 3 part harmony ( Christine Mcvie, joining Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham who had been asked to join Fleetwood mac) which gave rise to the classic line up. To have three very different personalities with their own styles of writing and different voices within one band made for some outstanding albums over the years, and when the five, (let's not forget Mick Fleetwood and John Mcvie who without there wouldn't have been a Fleetwood mac in the first place) came together on stage, well, the magic really did happen, such a unique sound. I am so saddened to have just read the news about Chris Mcvie. The chain has been broken. Christine, you will be sadly missed. 😢
Well-put Khadine. When they added Lindsey Buckingham it woke me up. His amazing guitar talent shines when mixed with the other members and each of their strengths. Truly an example of the cliche' that the sum is GREATER than the individual parts if added separately. Again, I appreciate your thoughts/words here. Best Regards, LFGano (BuffRust)
Could not agree more. I always felt their versatility with this lineup was the three different and distinct sounds - but blend those three together and it was magic. And I still prefer the Kirwan/Welch FM the best, but have loved all phases for sure.
Thanks so much for uploading this, and for doing so with the great audio quality! 'Why' is certainly one of Fleetwood Mac's hidden gems and most underrated songs. Christine is so so talented and so so underrated
Will be forever missing you, Christine. I’m from Brazil and had this dream, to meet you with the band on stage. So sad I couldn’t accomplish it, although I have your music as in this magic video so I can hear you forever.
Dear Beautiful Sweet Songbird Your Voice Is Beyond Heavenly & Peaceful ! Your Beautiful Legacy & Muzik Will Live On ! Love You Sweet Christine Anne Perfekt McVie 💕💕🙏🙏❤️❤️🌼💐🍀🏵️🌺🌸🇺🇸🇩🇪💛❤️💙💚
Lindsey's guitar 🎸playing is awesome Christine's voice is amazing Sad that her and John Movies divorced, so glad that the band made such beautiful music
omg christine... RIP... lindsey with the respect phoning it in for the strings arrangement! honors the late great bob welch too!!!! this is beautiful. amazing! thank you.
Don't understand why FM seldom if ever played this song in concert. Maybe I missed it. It is a beautiful song. Love the harmonic ending--and Buckingham's soulful guitar work adds some amazing texture and depth to McVie's wonderful lyrics and voice.
Love Christine's vocals here. So much emotion behind it. This audio was probably mixed by somebody who incorrectly assumed Stevie had the better voice. She was off key in the high harmony at several points during that final stretch. Here's another version where you can hear Christine's beautiful mid-harmony vocals at the end. ruclips.net/video/QxjDHw5FtOA/видео.html
I hear a mic at 3:18 from Christine...and organ in perfect harmony with Stevie the whole way... I just think they were so in sync ... that’s my story and I’m sticking to it... this is great work. Thank u. 🤙🏼
Why!
So sad we lost Christine today. This was the first song of hers I wanted to hear when I read the news. R.I.P. Christine McVie
😭😔
same here. has always been my favourite Fleetwood Mac Song pre Rumours, now with her passing it has a whole new meaning.

I'm here after Christine's passing just to say this is absolutely one of the greatest (and most underrated) songs of all time.

A masterpiece. Rembrandt, Da Vinchi, Vermeer….
Every minuscule moment throughout, a beautiful masterpiece.
I think I actually like this better than the album version. Could listen to the intro over and over with the guitar...

This version is more soulful! Just perfect
Me also, I heard the album version the other day, you can't feel the same feeling they are in the album version, like you can here.
