Same here Brynn. I even tried using several layers of a very heavy body lotion underneath each sunscreen application, and they all still dry me out. A website called Beauty with Brains has a blog post mentioning that zinc is drying, and that physical sunscreens can sometimes be drying across the board for some people. I have no problem with chemical sunscreens! But I can’t use zinc cause it dries me out so much. I put on so much moisturizer and I still get dry patches at the end of the day. I want to find a mineral sunscreen but I just keep getting disappointed ☹️ so if anyone finds something that works you should comment!
@@andreanope8640 I'm the OP of this comment and I now CAN use zinc sunscreen! I didn't think it was possible, so maybe what worked for me would also work for you. I started using grapeseed oil as the last step of my nightly routine (it's non comedogenic and extremely high in linoleic acid apparently). I rub a few drops into my face before getting into bed and it makes a huge difference. No more dry spots from mineral sunscreen and my face isn't painfully dry from the zinc anymore. I am thinking my skin was deficient in linoleic acid as I've heard that is common for people with acne--I probably had a messed up skin barrier. Grapeseed oil has made a huge difference for me and is extremely affordable, so I'd give it a try if I were you. It even works well with all the other products I apply in the evening (including retinol). Hope this helps!
@@andreanope8640 the cerave tinted sunscreen is great. Only problem is it doesn't really set down, anything that touches your face will wipe it off & the tint is orangey. Super hydrating though

Thank you so much for the MD Solar Sciences recommendation! Blends like a dream, doesn’t pill and truly works through midday runs. This stuff is a winter skin savior. Love it!
I just got the cvs clear zinc and was so excited about it but for whatever reason it stings my face for about 20-30 seconds after rubbing it in! I love the texture and how it looks once rubbed in so maybe I’ll try to Walgreens one to see if the formulation bothers my skin less!
I appreciate this video. With my dry skin, I have found that many sunscreens are formulated to be matte and non shiny. They just make my skin look dead. All I usually hear are complaints about how greasy sunscreens are but I’ve never been fortunate enough to find one of those. I’m going to check out some on this list. Thanks!
Try a moisturizing lotion first then apply a sunscreen. I'd recommend mesoestetic moisturizing sun protection SPF 50. It's a bit pricey but very moisturizing. You can also try the altruist SPF 50. Don't forget to apply a moisturizing lotion first.
I’m here for this! Ive purchased so many amazing products after your reviews and most recently the DRMTLGY sunscreen has come in clutch!!! So if these sunscreens are loved by you, I trust it!
I think she meant to say that Walgreens sunscreen has octocrylene, not octinoxate, just in case anyone’s trying to avoid the latter. The Walgreens clear zinc is also pretty affordable. Have a good day, Dr. Dray.
My fav moisturizing spf on my face during this dry Canadian winter is Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil SPF 45 Body butter ultra-hydrating mineral lotion. For the body, but works great on my face (I am super pale skin type 1) and doesn't burn my very sensitive eyes (elta md's mineral sunscreens hurt my eyes :(). Leavrs minimal white cast for me but I am very pale. Does make the skin very shiny, but I personally like that on my dry skin in wintertime.
Your ending is always the best "sunscreen and subscribe!" I think I've learned more from your videos than I have from any of my doctors, including my dermatologists! Thank you!
I am currently liking the cetaphil redness relieving moisturizer with sunscreen. It’s very moisturizing and blends in well to my medium tones skin. I like mineral based sunscreens because they don’t sting my eyes when I apply it to my lids. It is just an spf20, but I find that I am happy to apply it more often because it doesn’t leave a thick cast like other sunscreens.
I use Bare Republic unscented mineral tinted facial sunscreen and I looove it. Great all year round, is probably too light for some skin tones but perfect for mine
Dr dray. Does heat from cooking contribute to skin ageing and hyper pigmentation? Can you please share how can I protect my facial skin from cooking heat? Does sunscreen application help?
I feel like sunscreen is the same for almost all. It’s the moisturiser that needs to be categorised based on skin types. My favourite is MD solar science and I am glad you mentioned about this. I love the texture and they are sustainable brand.
I got the SPF from Walgreen's a few years back out of the blue. I was just looking for something cheap but I did enjoy it. It did not leave a cast on me whatsoever, probably because I wasn't putting enough on. However, I did enjoyed it and its so affordable.
Ohhhh! I had no idea, I would need a SPF 50 Sunscreen with moisturizers. As a natural redhead, my skin burns easily. Thank you, Dr. Dray, I will be checking out these sunscreens. 😊
I’ve seen that canmake sunscreen in like ever drugstore here in Japan, I always thought it had pretty packaging, but I never tried it before because I guessed it would have fragrance, they always put in their makeup, but if dr dray is recommending it, must be fragrance free, surprising, maybe I’ll try it than, and thanks for reviewing Asian products for us first gen immigrants.
I have dry/mature skin. I use P:rem spf 50+PA+++. I love it. I have olive skin and this does not leave a cast. It does nice and creamy and does not dry out my skim
I have medium olive skin tone and the Walgreens spf 50 is by far my favorite. When fully absorbed it leaves no cast at all and glowy skin. It's better than the supergoop zinc screen, cerave, neutrogena. I have really dry skin and I've tried them all, this is my favorite, highy reccomend.
All sunscreens dry me out It seems. I tried this too and although it unfortunately dried me at the end of the day, I thought it was pretty miraculous for $3 a bottle. Definitely comparable to a very expensive brand. It had a nice finish and a doable, very light cast.
The Walgreens Sensitive SPF 50 was irritating to my skin and caused tingling and burning, especially near the eyes. I purposefully bought it for the retinization period when I started using adapelene. I have found that the Banana Boat 50+ Sport is fairly good for the first application of the day. It tends to pill up on the second and third applications, so I typically try to use a different sunscreen like Nutrogena Sport+ range or Blue Lizard Sensitive 50+.
Happy Thursday dr Dray and everyone Sunscreen is so important 👍 I recently purchased from Paulas choice and she was giving a full size of her Skin recovery spf 30 sunscreen as a gift with purchase It is labeled as dry to very dry skin I have oily skin and use Colorscience spf 50 . I will have to say that the Paula Choice is not heavy at all and really nice it is like a light moisturizer . Have a great day love to mom and Tyler 🥰🥰🥰
Dr Dray is so timely knowing we are searching sunscreen again! Thanks! I've been following for years and have heard from the channel about this Ombrelle available here in Canada, while I really tried to love it, it's hard! Has anyone else find the white pills EVERYWHERE on face and especially neck when you use it? I thought it's my moisturizer but then I read the Amazon reviews and it's common in most... The EltaMD collection is good for winter except the cast is obvious and tinted ones are not my shade. So.. back to the looong journey of sunscreen try and error..
I love the look of the MD Solar Sciences sunscreen, but the one in the red bottle makes my face break out SO bad. I now use their stuff on my body and it's great.
@@DrDrayzday Oh, maybe! I haven't tested that, but it seems possible. Now that I think of it, the dimethicone in the vaniply made my lips react strangely, too.

Tried a couple of those. The Canmake mermaid seems to be the best for me, doesnt sting at all, does not break me out. Unlike the UK one, which is a shame because i am in the uk...
I just bought 3 from the list 😁. Isehan, biore pure milk (i couldn't find biore milk, I would have bought it too. I really want it this one), and Garnier ombrelle. Received them all and can't wait to try them. I want to try altruist but I've never bought from Amazon UK before. Prior to these, i bought Coppertone Pure and simple, CeraVe tinted, and aqua skin. Love skin aqua texture, but can be drying if don't double moisturize.
I like the DRMTLGY Tinted Spf 46 and the Paula's Choice Skin Restoring Moisturizer Spf 50 for my dry skin. Was enjoying the Purito too but unfortunately can no longer rely on it for the stated spf value.
thank you Dr, Dray, I was wondering why there is so little attention to wearing sunscreen during winter!!!.. the japanese sunscreen are my all time favourite BUT the AlTruist you recommended some time ago is fabtastic!!

Have you found anything from this list that worked? I'm in the same boat. I feel like I've tried everything on Earth and all of them dried me out and gave me puffy eyes in the morning. I tried the Walgreens when she mentioned here and it still dried me out. Did you have any luck with anything?
@@lisabaughn ughhhh the struggle is real! I actually went to 3 different Walgreens looking for the one she mentioned and still couldn’t find it. Currently using DRMTLGY SPF 45, I find it to be a little more hydrating than the tinted version for whatever reason. Still not enough though- I often have to layer a moisturizer underneath. The Pipette SPF 50 is a nice one, but sometimes it feels too heavy 😫
@@Evenfall19 You're telling me. Well, I'm so sorry you didn't have success finding the Walgreens one, it is definitely difficult to find I think. But, it dries, so, there's your unsurprising answer and you can sleep well tonight knowing you didn't miss anything lol. 😆 Other than that it was a really phenomenal sunscreen for $3 though. It has a gorgeous finish and is super cheap. I SO wanted it to be the one! 😪 One brand to try is Mary Kay, which these big dermatology RUclips channels do not ever mention that I used to use for years. Yes, they are a shady MLM, but maybe if you dig around you can find a product that works and a way to purchase it that you're okay with. Unfortunately they recently changed some of their formulations for the worse, and many of us do not love MK like we used to. That said, there are still 2 creams with SPF in their current product array to try, both of which are designed/marketed more so as moisturizers, not sunscreens. 1. The Timewise Day Cream SPF 30 (I think that's the spf). It's a rather new product/formulation and I haven't tried it long term. But I sampled it on my hand once and it is a very concentrated, heavy feeling cream. I'm thinking about trying it. 2. The VoluFirm Day Cream SPF 30, which is actually still it's good older formulation. I'm giving that a try this week. I can't claim any long-term success with it yet, but it's something I'm now trying with fingers crossed. It looks gorgeous, that I can report with confidence. It's something that has enough extra nice ingredients in it that I can use it and look pretty without adding foundation, which means better sun protection. Welp, best of luck to you and thanks for replying, the struggle is indeed all too real. I found a basal cell carcinoma on my face this month so I have to find something that works; sunscreen is no longer optional. I'm cautiously hopeful about my good old standby Mary Kay. The search has been exhausting and sad, having been disappointed by so many products. Wishing you luck...💖
I'm in the same boat, good luck to you both! I'm going to try the Pipette 50 and the Walgreens (why not for $3). Thanks for the ideas and good to know I'm not alone.
Still loving the Neutrogena Healthy Defense daily moisturizer with mineral sunscreen for sensitive skin. It has an SPF-50 and is so hydrating. It's also fragrance free. :)
For the outdoors days i use the la roche posay - Anthelios XL 50+. It is made by l'oréal and also has the mexoryl filter. Actually quite similar to the Garnier Ombrelle Sensitive SPF60. That is what i found out on a comparison website for Dutch consumers. Reliable source.
I was just out yesterday trying to find something for my extremely dry, sensitive skin. Well, I just gave up ! Thank Goodness I found this video today. I will be going out tomorrow to get a couple. And, I think I will order the one from Canada too. Excellent video !
I have dry skin that is sensitive to chemical filters. When exposed to light, the heat produced by chemical filters causes my skin to get ruddy red. The MD solar sciences was perfect for my skin, except it has Vitamin C, and, as sad irony would have it, my skin is also sensitive to Vitamin C. I tried to make the the MD Solar Sciences work, hoping that the Vitamin C wouldn't penetrate my skin because it's suspended in dimethicone and layered on top of my moisturizer. However, after several weeks of use, I had redness and irritation around my eyes, which stopped when I switched to a different sunscreen. I'm currently trying to find a sunscreen that is as perfect as the MD Solar Sciences is for my sensitive dry skin, but without Vitamin C.
Thank you for these suggestions, Dr. Dray! I'd be very interested in learning more about vitiligo, treatments, etc.. my doctor says there's not much we can do about it but I don't want to give up yet... Thanks for everything you do!
I’m using LRP with Mexoryl spf15. I can only use it in the winter because of the low spf. I’m going to try the new Altruist one. I tried the spf 50 a couple years ago but it was too shiny for my face.

@@brynnking5184 also, cosrx snail mucin on dampened skin (after a.m. routine essences & serums, spray if it is no longer damp), but before moisturizer and sunscreen really helps seal in moisture when oil isnt desirable, like before sunscreen. it took me a while yo figure out how to use this product, but i do feel it helps when used on dampened skin!
Thank you so much for the MD Solar Sciences recommendation! Blends like a dream, doesn’t pill and truly works through midday runs. This stuff is a winter skin savior. Love it!
I’ve purchased many of these, but my every day spf is the cvs or Walgreens clear zinc.
I just got the cvs clear zinc and was so excited about it but for whatever reason it stings my face for about 20-30 seconds after rubbing it in! I love the texture and how it looks once rubbed in so maybe I’ll try to Walgreens one to see if the formulation bothers my skin less!
I never can get the CVS. They don’t have it in my local store and I tried to order it and it says it can’t be shipped. 🤷🏻♀️
@Max10e the price though 😭 I wanted the 4 dollar sunscreen to work for me haha
Glad you like them!
You are GLOWING!!! Thanks for a great video Dr.Dray🥰
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing!!
I live in Japan and use the SPF 50 PA++++ from Fuji Film. No cast, lightly tinted, and also a great moisturizer. A little pricey though.
I adore the Verdio UV moisture gel
Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen Tinted Face Mineral Lotion SPF 50 used above a layer of moisturizer is really good! I love it
This information is so welcomed at this time of year. Thanks Dr. Dray.
Dr dray. Does heat from cooking contribute to skin ageing and hyper pigmentation? Can you please share how can I protect my facial skin from cooking heat? Does sunscreen application help?
Heat does effect the skin 😭😭 yes sunscreen help I heard so I hope dr will answer
Dr Dray can you please make a review about the new Anessa 2020 sunscreens? 🙏🏼
I feel like sunscreen is the same for almost all. It’s the moisturiser that needs to be categorised based on skin types. My favourite is MD solar science and I am glad you mentioned about this. I love the texture and they are sustainable brand.
hope you all have an amazing Thursday!
Happy Thursday!
Thank You!! Having a Wonderful Thursday!!
Happy Thursday
Enjoy your day 😉
@@franceskennedy2938 happy Thursday enjoy your day ❄️☃️😀
I love the Ulta MD Sport. It doesn’t burn the heck out of my eyes which is super important to me.
I got the SPF from Walgreen's a few years back out of the blue. I was just looking for something cheap but I did enjoy it. It did not leave a cast on me whatsoever, probably because I wasn't putting enough on. However, I did enjoyed it and its so affordable.
The mermaid one is sooooo good!
Ohhhh! I had no idea, I would need a SPF 50 Sunscreen with moisturizers. As a natural redhead, my skin burns easily. Thank you, Dr. Dray, I will be checking out these sunscreens. 😊
I also love the Omi Verdio Uv Moisture Milk! Nice radiant finish goes well over moisturizer
Is it the same one she mentioned from Walgreens?
@@ItsKikiHere_GAMERGIRL Hi Rana, yes it is. It is $2-$3.
Ive tried lots of sunscreens, but I always go back to Elta MD Sport! It feels UHmazing on dry skin!
I hope US FDA approves these filters soon
I find the Vanicream sunscreen great for dry skin! 🧴 🌞
Does it leave a white cast ?
@@stephespi8373 Yes it does, a strong one even.
Thank you for the reply
I ordered the mommy; aqua and one other one you recommended and I LOVE them and thank you YESSTYLE
this was VERY MUCH needed!!! My eczema flare ups are getting worse and worse..
Thanks for sharing!!
Greetings Mary Ann Gonzalez hope u r well n Happy Thursday😀👍💜....
@mary ann Gonzalez: I love the Colorscience SPF 50. It goes on very nicely and I like the light tint
@@DrDrayzday enjoy !!!
I now use their stuff on my body and it's great.
are you sensitive to silicones?
@@DrDrayzday Oh, maybe! I haven't tested that, but it seems possible. Now that I think of it, the dimethicone in the vaniply made my lips react strangely, too.
I was literally just googling this exact thing!! Thank you 🙏🏻
thanks for watching
Used canmake sunscreen today on dry skin. Worked great! No cast on tan skin.
Love it!
Altruist fluid:
Easy to apply
Stings my eyes a lot
No white cast
Shining finish
Have you found a sunscreen that does not sting your eyes? 🌸
@@emiliabradley5738
1. Nivea Sun UV Face Soothing Sensitive
2. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Shaka Fluid
@@TRANTRUNGHIEU1901 thank u so much! I’m gonna try these, and glad that you found One that doesn’t sting your eyes 🌸🌸☀️🌼🌷
@@emiliabradley5738 Hope you can find a good one, too. Some people are very sensitive to some of the UV filters. But the two sunscreens that I mentioned above are really good at sun protection 🤩
Black Girl Sunscreen is great! Very moisturizing and no white cast/residue. I only wish it had a higher SPF than 30.
The kids' version is SPF 50.
@@db-gb5xi I'll look into that; thank you!
Hello everyone hello Dr Dray 👋

You're glowing today! Thanks for making this video, I was legit thinking earlier today how I needed a new sunscreen. :) Got myself the Isehan mommy!
Hope you like it!
I love Elta MD physical, so moisturizing and perfect for my 40's dry, darker with rosacea skin.
Sorry, correction, the one I love is elements, not physical.
please please PLEASE do a video on tinted sunscreens for dermatitis prone skin!
thank you for this, your Diamond Earrings are too Pretty!!!!
Oh thank you! They are CZ...a girl's second best friend
Happy Thursday Dr Dray !
i have extremely dry skin. this is very helpful. now instead buying makeup i am hoarding on sunscreens. This month i bought 6-7 different brand sunscreen based on your recommendations. Thank you again 💓
you are prepared! Happy Thursday!
Tried a couple of those. The Canmake mermaid seems to be the best for me, doesnt sting at all, does not break me out. Unlike the UK one, which is a shame because i am in the uk...
Thank you for including a cheaper option. I'm headed to Walgreens today so I can get my hands on one!
how was it?
@@lavenderandsunflowers77 I have really dry, sensitive skin and it works great! It doesnt have a white cast even on my olive skin tone
The Ombrelle leaves a cast on my tanned skin. It would definitely show on a deep/dark skintone
thanks for sharing
I just bought 3 from the list 😁. Isehan, biore pure milk (i couldn't find biore milk, I would have bought it too. I really want it this one), and Garnier ombrelle. Received them all and can't wait to try them. I want to try altruist but I've never bought from Amazon UK before. Prior to these, i bought Coppertone Pure and simple, CeraVe tinted, and aqua skin. Love skin aqua texture, but can be drying if don't double moisturize.
My go to right now is cerave mineral tinted spf !
love that one!
Danyiel Says I love the formula but it makes me look like a Malibu Barbie doll from the 70's. Lucky you that the tint works for you!
Would love to hear your thoughts on Anessa and Allie sunscreens. Both of these are very popular in Japan.
I’d love a similar list for normal to oily skin. I’d really love yo hear about K and J beauty sunscreens that are waterproof!
I love colorscience face shield and PCA weightless protection!
me too! those are great
My fave is Cerave Ultra Light Moisturizing Lotion. I have combo skin, but when skin is dry that stuff moisturizes really well
Thanks for including Japanese sunscreens! Living in Japan it's hard to get many foreign brands not to mention expensive. Happy holidays Dr Dray xx

You're so welcome!
i recently started using a new sunscreen that i really loved at first... but a week later, after consistent use, my skin is SO dry! i knew it was the sunscreen bc it's the only thing different in my skin routine. tysm for these suggestions!
You’re the best ❤️❤️❤️
I’m going to try the Garnier Ombrelle Sensitive SPF60! I’ve been on the hunt for a new sunscreen for my dry skin!
You look so lovely! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise! Keep shining, dear Lady!
OMG I never clicked any faster! All Sunscreen dries my skin (especially mineral ones which I tend to go to) :( commenting before even watching the whole video lol
One brand to try is Mary Kay, which these big dermatology RUclips channels do not ever mention that I used to use for years.
👍
Would like to know what you think about Black Girl sunscreen.
Yes! Good topic as always! Happy Thursday Dr Dray and peeps ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Morning!
Thank You!! Happy Thursday to You Too!!
Enjoy your day Reed ❄️☃️😀
I was just out yesterday trying to find something for my extremely dry, sensitive skin. Well, I just gave up ! Thank Goodness I found this video today. I will be going out tomorrow to get a couple. And, I think I will order the one from Canada too. Excellent video !
Dr. Dray, thank you for your recommendations. Lately I have been enjoying the DRMTLGY and Elta Md Physical sunscreens 😎
Glad you like them! They are wonderful
Do any of these sting the eyes? Thank you for sharing! 💜
Thank you for these suggestions, Dr. Dray! I'd be very interested in learning more about vitiligo, treatments, etc.. my doctor says there's not much we can do about it but I don't want to give up yet... Thanks for everything you do!
Also requesting a tip for dark under-eye circles
I’m using LRP with Mexoryl spf15. I can only use it in the winter because of the low spf. I’m going to try the new Altruist one. I tried the spf 50 a couple years ago but it was too shiny for my face.
