One of my favorite sunscreens for my acne-prone skin is littlllextra rice berry SPF 50+ sunscreen. The major issues I face with a lot of sunscreens are that either they cause breakouts or they leave my skin dry and irritated. But this sunscreen doesn’t do this and it wears great under makeup which is essential for me since I wear makeup daily as someone with acne-prone skin.

I've struggled with acne since my early tween years, and since I've started using a tretinoin perscription my skin is very sensitive, EXTREMELY dry, and still very prone to breakouts and flare ups. I HIGHLY recommend the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen if you have dry/sensitive skin and struggle with acne. I usually layer it over a moisterizer just because tretinoin has made my skin SO dry, but it feels AMAZING!! It's so moisterizing and makes my skin feel so plump, does not sting my eyes or the rest of my face whatsoever, and from what I can tell the sunscreen itself has not contributed to my breakouts. It also gives such a beautiful glow from within, which makes me feel a little bit better about my skin despite my pretty severe acne :). Highly recommend this sunscreen! There is light at the end of the tunnel my fellow acne-struggling friends!

I usually do a second layer of sunscreen on the tzone [right on top], with a matte mineral sunscreen for oil control (I use the Elta MD UV Elements tinted). Makeup wears great with this combination. For no makeup days the Elta Md UV clear tinted is great. Its actually quite brightening over time, idk whats in there but I certainly like that. For matte spf, I like Elf Invisible spf 35. Works with makeup if you use a sponge to apply, and looks great bare faced on my light-medium tan skintone.

The kose suncut one is amazing for athletes as it is waterproof, breathable and no cast. Most teens hates wearing sunscreen but if they do ooutdoor sports, it's a must. Once they try this one, it will change their minds. I personally wear the colorscience flex. It's the only sunscreen that has enough coverage that I feel I can skip foundation, but it doesn't do well around hairline or dry spots so I am still on the lookout for something that is better. Most tinted sunscreen just doesn't have enough coverage that can replace foundation.

Elta MD UV Clear (not exactly mattifying but does seem to control oil a bit)
Elta MD UV Elements tinted (Similar to the UV Clear for me, but the tint is a bit too orangey for a pretty pale person like me)
Beauty of Joseon (not mattifying but doesn't make me more oily)
Tula Mineral Magic (mattifying, at least for the first couple of hours)
Colorescience Sunforgettable Flex (I use the lightest but it's just a touch too light/ashy for me so I do warm it up a little. Not mattifying at all)
Thrive Causemetics Sunproof (very dimethicone-y if that's your jam and touts itself as a primer as well)

I WISH i had worn daily spf before age 17, but when I was on accutane and having breakouts, lightweight korean suncreens were THE BEST. I hated (and used to be scared of) sunscreen on my acne prone skin, but k-beauty spfs almost soothe, treat, AND protect. The missha sun essence, biore aqua rich, round labs birch juice spf, and beauty of joseon were all great for me. The ISA KNOX uv sun pro is SO SO good. I have dozens of korean spfs id grab over any other spf any day.

I love the supergoop mineral mattescreen. I have normal acne prone skin and use tretinoin and take Spironolactone daily. I also have horrible eczema around my eyes and in my hairline, so a lot of sunscreens do not get along with my skin. I hate that I can only use mineral sunscreens because I’m extremely pale and find a lot of them make me look grey and sick. I wish trying new sunscreens also wasn’t a roll of the dice whether my eye lids will swell up. My derm says to stick to what I know but supergoop is super expensive for everyday use.

I have combination skin, leaning more towards the oily side in my T zone. I loveeeee the La Roche-Posay Anthelios UV Correct SPF 70 sunscreen. It’s easily accessible (Target, Walgreens, etc.), plays very well with my skin, doesn’t leave me feeling or looking too oily at the end of the day, and it has a lot of incredible ingredients in it. I will say the only downside is the price point. It’s around $40ish. It’s worth the investment for me.

I'm moderately acne prone and still break out occasionally, especially under the nose. The sunscreens that do not seem to have exacerbated my acne are: Iunik Centella Calming Daily Sunscreen, Numbuzin Pure-full Calming Water Sunscreen, Beauty of Joseon Rice Relief, Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel (although I did find dry patches with this).

I really wanted to love the Elta sunscreen. The texture is great and I loved the way it smelled. However, like every other sunscreen I've ever tried, it caused me to breakout. I'm gonna be trying the Skin 1004 sun serum next...fingers crossed!! 🤞🤞

SKIN1004 - Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++ is also good for combination/oily skin. it is slightly moisturising, not heavy, leaves satin, very natural finish, does not sting the eyes. it is much lighter compared to Beauty of Joseon one (that leaves my skin quite greasy)

I am acne prone and dry/sensitive. I recommend la roche posay anthelios melt-in milk spf 60.
It is not too expensive and comes in a big bottle which is good bc psychologically you will use less sunscreen when it comes in a small, expensive tube. Which is not good, you want to put on a lot of sunscreen.
This one never clogged my pores, was decently hydrating, and didnt sting around eye area.

I have oily (but dehydrated), acne prone, mature (getting there, mid 30s), sensitive, allergic to fragrance (horrible contact dermatitis) skin. So I feel like I'm screwed because my skin checks all of the boxes 🙄 🙈 most chemical suncreens make my eyes burn a little. But mineral ones can be very drying and feel kind of heavy. I do like the isntree one a lot, but it does make my eyes burn a little. My sister recently got me into the canmake mermaid one

I have perioral dermatitis, rosacea and seb derm and right now I'm using and loving the Cetaphil liposomal lotion spf 50+, I was using Eltamd uv clear but two months ago I introduced as per recommended by my derm Aklief, and I found it was then stinging my sensitized skin, I thought of giving this Cetaphil a shot and it has been amazing. My skin is on the "oiler side" and I live in a hot humid place, while I'm on retinoids (I'm also on low dose accutane and spironolactone) my skin is less oily than in its natural state but still it reacts badly to heavier products and this hasn't been the case for this. And it comes in a 100ml bottle. You might be able to get it in the US if you get import it from Mexico, or if you get it as Daylong protect and care lotion spf 50+, which is the same exact formulation as they are both owned by Galderma. The cetaphil vs Elta md seems to give me more protection IMO because even tho I used to wear each daily, I was getting a tan with the elta just through my daily commute to work.

DRMTLGY universal tinted is great for my older oily skin. It’s the first one I ever tried and immediately fell in love. Once it dries down and I powder it (I don’t use foundation) it’s lovely. It actually holds back the oil. My lunchtime powdering because of shiny oily skin is no longer needed as it keeps the oil in check. It does burn when it gets in my eyes like when I’m sweating cutting grass. But other than that I love it. I still have one and a half bottles of it so after that I might try something new but I love it so much I’m not sure I need to waste money.

As an individual living in the EU, I honestly feel blessed with the variety of organic filters available (and the strict UVA testing). I dislike mineral and even combo sunscreens (they either leave a white cast or if tinted, I look like a tangerine, or they feel drying and clump around my pores) I am planning a pregnancy here and I am a little bit envious of the abundance of mineral-based sunscreen you folks can choose from over there! 😁
