Car dealers who buy EV’s for stock are seeing huge losses. The majority of the general public have no faith in the product. It’s obvious Renault finance can ‘fire sale’ their EV’s because they make up the losses from achieving better residual values from their ICE vehicles (over Cap so generating profit). RIP EV’s.
I think one of the reasons the EV's do not reach cap clean is the some discount sites are giving huge discounts, the nissan leaf 46% off list, the corsa 28% off list and technology is moving so quickly many people are just waiting until 2025 for a dearth of cars from china under 20K with longer range
No one is waiting they will have to be forced to buy the very non green machines.
In the last auction EVs were going for above cap average. Just depends on the make/model. Model 3 still doing well, and lots of demand for the last gen of the Tesla cars in general. MG4 LR and Trophy models too; not so much the SE here.

The auctioneers seem to make a lot of noise and add absolutely nothing. It’s pitiful.
The stupid stuttering thing the auctioneers do really winds me up. I just cannot listen to them. A real shame as it would otherwise be fascinating.
The fast pace of the talking is called ‘Auctioneers Chant.’ No one quite knows how the practice proliferated to the U.K, however historical documents refer to North American tobacco plantation auctions selling over 100 lots of goods in one hour. One would imagine the Auctioneers needing to speak quickly in order to conclude business in a timely manner. It certainly is a little bit of an oddity in the modern era, I wonder if it will continue to survive?

The auctioneer doesn't want people who dither or try to snipe bids. The longer it takes to conclude a single transaction the less profit the auction house can make. This isn't bloody ebay.
They go cheap because more and more people dint like them, all EVs are crap!!!

Not enough charging point infrastructure.
Environment..
Cradle to grave they are worse than a regular car, regular cars parts can be recycled more.
Lithium and cobalt are not good for Environment.
Children in developing countries mining for it.
Electricity isn't green, it's from a power plant, car may not spew out emmisons, but the power station does....
Actual car..
No sound of a large engine.
No oil, petrol smell.
Recharge soon won't be much cheaper than petrol car and the big issue is... Second hand battery life.
Range stress.
Depreciation value, seen a RUclips channel fuy with porche, within 2 years from 100k to under 40k and even had offer of 28k
They are a fashion item, they won't last long.
Some car makers already scaling down production.
lol someone paid £6 a mile in depreciation to sit in a renault zoe
unlikely - it's probably ex-lease, so purchased with lots of govt incentives and low tax for fleet use

EV market is not a place to be for a second hand dealer. My friend has taken me to the auctions to get stock, EV's are not on his list. Small to medium size petrol (gold dust), diesel or the possible HEV depending what make it is. These are the cars to bid as they have a quick turnover.
That mean you go up against big boys aka not place to be in
There are specialist used EV dealers who can shift cars quickly because they know what to look for and can service them if required.
@@decimal1815 They have Specialist? like a specialists classic car dealer. Why not just a car dealer? Because the majority of second hand car dealers want touch them
This is the litmus test showing no one wants an EV as prices are tumbling. 50% values from last years prices. Electricity prices have gone through the roof and even through the Solar Panels as well. Infrastructure still lacking in parts of the UK. Hardly any of the cars sold. Good time to pickup some bargains as long as prices don't keep dropping further for FISKER sake LOL 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Leafs are going cheap because the range can't compete now. 36kWh usable becomes less than 30kWh after a couple of years on the Leaf. That's only 100 miles of range.
Octopus vehicles usually have patchy service histories.

Are there still Hyundai Ioniqs going through these auctions? I'd like a 28 or 38kWh and am seeing them retail starting at £10k; if they are still going through the ausctions what sort of price are they fetching?

Price should be dropping now they are out of warranty. Look out for ex-lease Ioniqs as they may not have been well looked after. Even the windknife can suffer from a degraded battery if left at 0% (or 100%) charge for days on end!
Nothing is selling.And new Evs are parked up all around the UK and at the docks.This market will collapse eventually.

Are auctions and dealers giving us any idea of the battery degradation level on used EV's yet?
There are companies planning on offering this service to auction houses and dealers , watch this space !
@@JonathanPorterfield Manufacturers should be forced to make battery state a standard display feature on all EV's. With these vehicles it's equally as important as the odometer and service history.
@turriffterror3881 most evs have long 8 year warranty so not really nessasary , except for the nissan leaf which is prone to heavy degradation on high mile examples , like ex taxis
@@JonathanPorterfield Have you ever tried claiming against a warranty? Dealers and manufacturers will find any excuse to avoid a warranty claim.
That's a really poor excuse for not providing information that is readily available from the cars systems.
@turriffterror3881 ive not personally claimed for a new battery in an ev in the 13 years ive been dealing in them , ive only heard bad reports about nissan trying to wiggle out of a warranty claim , Hyundai/ kia , have been good so far by all accounts.
Soon you won't even be able to give any of these useless milk floats away, what a complete scam it's all turned out to be!😂
Early adopters brought EV's. No one else is interested? In the USA 46% of EV owners go back to ICE cars in the first 3 years.

Cms. I know there is at least one dealer who will buy for you at trade auctions. However, Jonathan is doing what he specialises in which is reassuring.
It just show's nobody want EV's.
DVLA stats say otherwise ....
All it shows is that the dealers at those auctions did not want those particular cars at those prices.

Have you stopped to think or ask the question : Are any of these bids real??? I have serious doubts. I used to be in the motor trade and this does not feel real to me!!
Renault / nissan finance said 'sell' , so they did sell , the octopus ones didnt as they obviously wanted more .
true I think a lot of bids are what they call in the trade phantom bids trying to make the market participants respond. prices are still coming down and if there's no buyers prices could still fall further
@@fatsotalksstocks9530 Jonathan mentioned that if a car is provisional (most were!) then the seller can negotiate or accept the highest bid offer. We'd never know what the final value was, only if the car appears in a future auction. Tracking all the returning cars, and their last highest bid would be a lot of effort.

@@Brian-om2hh I prefer that, as that is all we have in the sticks. The market town near to me is where you will find one EV charger and markets days render that out of reach. Plus I tow trailers including a horse box, I can't stop for ages to charge with horses in the box, kicking and getting distressed..Can an EV pull a 2 horse box with weighing near on 2.5 tons with trailer and beast for 50/60/70 miles and back? Animals calm to the motion of moving, not standing still for 45mins to an 1hr.

Hi , thanks for watching 👍 my 'personal' view is i dont rate the ID3 , its not very efficient, i feel the inside feels 'cheap' and early ID3 has poor software ( although there is a update, but it not much better IMO )
Used the Korean evs from Hyundai and Kia , are a better buy , more efficient, huge waranties ( 5 years Hyundai, 7 with Kia ) on the whole car. Best regards Jp
@@JonathanPorterfield sounds like Volkswagen is really dropped the ball. I had a golf Mark 3 in the early 90s and was built like a tank . Of course the seats in those cars were very hard . So do you reckon either a Zoe or another leaf might be the thing? 62kw for under 9k is amazing, had also thought mg5.. Was thinking about an env200 40kwh but I was reading the tax on those will be over £300 next year. Have you heard anything?

MG5 , great ev ( see James and Kate on YT ) Leaf , great value , but lack of chadamo rapids now , means id go for CCS EVs.
Wait a few months and we 'may' see early ENiro 64kWh around £10/12k
@@JonathanPorterfield oh an enero in my price range :) do you think they are best of the bunch? I've lived my leaf , over 3 years happy motoring . True it's lost quite a bit of value but it's cost buttons to run over the time and I tend to charge on a 13a plug most of the time, even at home

Do you get a comprehensive breakdown of the service history with service intervals and location with the auction report?
No , just service stamps with dates and mileage if written in the service book. We recently bought a 40k mile 3 year old kona with 'no service history' from BCA , it had 4 services from Hyundai which we tracked down , bought a kona service book , garage stampted it up for our customer 😀
Where it says VAT Q does that mean there's VAT in the hammer price already, or VAT is additional at 20%?
