Even with the amount of super creative and fun to use traps, nothing beats final Ravenholm. It's perfectly paced (aside from the weird mine section after saying goodbye to Grigori, which always ruined the pace in my opinion), and using the Gravity Gun to shoot sawblades and other stuff at zombies is just amazing. No wonder they took out so many traps if you get a gun that can do the same, just more efficiently.
There is something magical about these early 2000s sunset skyboxes from unreleased versions of the games... I remember that our "totally official distributors" of half life 2 used quite alot of screenshots from this Ravenholm demo. Also, early versions of stalker had quite alot of sunset skyboxes and they still fascinate me.
Func fact: the 2002 docks are still in the retail Ravenholm, and you can see it in hammer, the creator of overcharged mod made a video restoring this section of the map
The path leading to them from the unused E3 2002 map is in the final, just blocked off, not the docks themselves. That would be a lot of unused geometry. Funny how everything in City 17 was completely new for the final campaign but Ravenholm and Nova Prospect still use maps made in 2002 in the final version, just modified.
I'm honestly kind of impressed, sure it could use a bit more polish here and there and it's buggy in a few places, but this is a pretty detail oriented recreation. Those traps look really cool, I love the idea of an extended Ravenholm based on leaked maps and old concepts and overall it looks pretty well put together. Plus it's cool as hell to see people still making mods for the HL2 beta. Good shit.
Fast Zombies getting stuck on the pipes, might be related to the unfinished AI of Leak Engine provides I advise to all that if you're willing to play or make a mod in Leak Engine, EXPECT ANY NPC AI BUGS!
The town mod looks glorious! Tho I will say... The unlimited barrage of fast zombies is kind of a lame way to add artificial difficulty... Cheap move, but otherwise, I like what this mod looks. I'd also argue that "skill issue" is more of "atrocious balance issue". Fight me, comments.
Oddly enough there was one iteration of the beta town that had the player using the gravity gun, but bizarrely featured Combine enemies instead of zombies. It was called "phystown" and featured in one of the E3 demos, it's somewhat similar in layout to where the fast zombies are introduced in the final game but the demo footage focused on the player using physics props and traps to block or kill Combine soldiers, such as blocking a door with a washing machine, sending a dumpster crashing into a squad of them, or using the gravity gun to throw a radiator at a soldier and break the vending machine behind him, causing it to spit out dozens of drink cans.
If you take requests, how about covering the cut canals map where you load propane tanks on a barge with a crane, and then ride on it and fight a helicopter before heading off to Ravenholm (based on floating texts)? I’ve always wondered what’s up with that one, since it seems anticlimatic to follow the airboat or jetski with this stuff. It makes me think it might have been some experimental timecrunch replacement for the airboat section, since Valve was behind schedule in releasing the game for that September 30th date.
Happy Valentine's RadHaz! You know, about Ravenholm I really wish there was a mod like Episode 4 that might explore more of Ravenholm as a sort of Expansion Pack. Especially if it can reuse beta concepts and ideas, and use it's own spins because some of these unused ideas might actually fit Ravenholm's aesthetic. If I were to create a Ravenholm mod I'd try adding things like unique zombie variants, extended areas of the original maps, revisiting the Docks and maybe even a good visit to Ravenholm's Church. Albeit these are just my ideas but I absolutely love all of the details Ravenholm brings in retail and beta form whether or not they were unused.
For me there was much less fast zombies I had to deal with. At the end when Grigori was lowering the tram cart thing to get me to the church, they did come to get me, but none of them got onto the building before I was already in the tram. Once they all started swarming the top it was funny seeing them all jumping onto the electric fence and dying, as they couldn't get me there.

Im not sure what exactly it is, but your scripting in this video is a little more fun and playful vocabulary and joke wise than your other videos and I really like it! great job, if intentional or not haha
9:30 Yeah someone probably just screwed up the spawn rate... And maybe some of the map given how many Fast Zombies seemed to have gotten stuck up there.
If this mod is out. Then why don't someone make the mod for the weather control too? The weather control is the location that never got past the concept art. ^^.
9:50 Or, maybe the spawning last map and in this one was actually supposed to be a Crescendo Event or Panic Event like in Left 4 Dead... Also, speaking of Left 4 Dead I _hate_ that one in Chapter 4 of Dark Carnival, you probably know _exactly_ what I am talking about.
Hi, i really love your videos as a big Half Life fan. I also like the choice of background musics in your videos. May i ask which genre of music they are under or where can i find more of them (Maybe a playlist)?
