Wow, you can almost see the transition from using the quake engine out of the box to closer to what we play in the older clips. The wide doors, the hallyways, the geometry seems “snapped” still to Quake’s map builder settings in ways. Later it appears they fully customized about.. everything. Great content, thank you, subscribed for sure.

To be honest, the last thing I was expecting was to see my username. That really made my day. Of course, great video as well. For a future video idea, if you want to look more into the Half-life 1 beta/alpha build contents, you could check out the mod Absolute: Zero that recently got cancelled back in October. It's obviously not being worked on anymore, but holy crap I personally loved every second of it. Although it is not polished or well finished, what is there is incredible. Also, the development of this mod is very interesting... but not a good way. I sometimes nickname Absolute: Zero the "Franklin Pierce of Half-life Mods:" mainly because it seemed like they had the worst luck in the world and it was very depressing. I'm glad they cancelled it for their own health. But again though, what they had was really good. It felt like I was in a different reality and playing a game developed back in 1997... that nobody else knew about. It was one of the only few mods, that I can think of, where I wanted to see ALL of the content. But that is just a thought. If you do consider it, be prepare to look up RUclips walkthroughs to type up different maps. For some reason, you can't list the maps in the console, but maybe you will have better luck than me. Cheers!
Actually there are music tracks in the alpha they just don't play in the game. If you go in the files you can find earlier versions of the retail tracks
Nice one! Shame we don't have that much from Half-Life 1's development, even Valve admitted they themself didn't anymore... "We don't have all the history of Half-Life 1's development, from the start" "Because like three months before we shipped, or two months before we shipped Half-Life 1, we lost the whole history; our VSS exploded. And so we had to put that all together off people's machines. So yeah, we don't have the history going back to the very start. We have the snapshot from that month." - Erik Johnson.

You can still see the quake in this build, it looks quite neat to think that this almost shipped like this, but they thought that it wasn't good enough and went above and beyond and upgraded so much and did a lot in so little time. A marvel with the engineers and programmers.
Criticising an alpha product(game) isn't stupid. It allows one to somewhat understand the building process and why the finished product is better or worse. Rating an alpha product that is stupid.
@@eivis13 But you're still playing it, are you not? So what's so stupid about rating your experience so others can decide if they want to play the alpha?

I'm gonna be honest I wish instead of people making videos on what is already known by most people I think videos on more obscure stuff like the 0.61 alpha design doc, origin of the human sergeant voiceline ect, people always will make videos on the same pre release half life stuff but some of the more obscure stuff would been ballin videos

ya know considering how unfinished and how small the alpha is i think this is just a demo to that of the final game and it was just to get a rough idea of what half life was going to be like both for the devs and play testers alike
I don't think so. The Hgrunt would've been the only mini-boss type enemy. There would have been more different type of soldiers though. There are some in the concept art that I'll show in a future video.
I do remember seeing a HECU soldier with a minigun but I think they cut him in the retail release, still would’ve been pretty cool if they had heavily armored grunts!
The repeating textured hallways are somewhat reminiscent of the maze-like levels of Wolfenstein and doom. Which would make perfect sense if Source was an evolved version of ID's engine.
Great video. I suggest checking out a mod called "Hard - Life" on Moddb. It's essentially Half-Life being redesigned/remade to be really hard, but in a really unique way. Not just cranking up enemy health values or anything.
For some reason, maybe it's just a thing I only encounter and others don't seem to have it, whenever I play HL's alpha and a houndeye kills a scientist, the game crashes
@@kabeam5643 Well, that happens every time since devs aim to sell a lot of copies so they'll land to budget PCs as well. If gaming was for high end PCs, it would've been a niche thing even for this day.
they finished the game, then re did the entire thing again, so technically we have hl3
By that standard, HL3 would be the 1998-2002 era of HL2, meaning we're already on Half-Life 4!
