Oh man, I love being a metalhead. The attention is great.
People always throwing the horns at me telling me I look cool and my jacket and vest look awesome, it's the best thing ever.
Group of kids in the parking lot always loitering around their cars, when I walk by they shout at me and wave their hands with devil horns.
Recently some big dude chilling in a group near the school said to me "Nice jacket man, keep listening to that good shit, it drowns out all that musical garbage out there!"

I just get stared by everyone and the only thing that I see in their eyes is dispair, when I try to talk to a person they tend to take a step back with every word they say, or be really apologetic.

One time I was in Walmart, just bought a motley Crue CD. This guy sought in my bag. Started talking about what a great album it was. Then we talk some more about our favorite metal bands. About a year later, me and my future wife were out on our first date. And this guy just happen to be our waiter. He recognized me, and gave us free drinks, on the house. Plus his employee discount, for our check. So if it wasn’t for being a metalhead, we would have not had that great experience.

When I was in elementary school I was boycotted and bullied, and it only stopped because I moved to a different school, where I didn't know anyone. A few years ago, when I was like 14 or 15, a kid that used to beat me almost every day saw me and started to insult me and threat me. At some point, two guys that were in their twenties came and beat him until he ran away, and then when I thanked them they said that metalheads always got each others' backs. I realized they saw my Slayer shirt and came. Personally, I'd help anyone who gets bullied, metalhead or not, but what happened there was pretty awesome lol

I enjoy my metal moments. Getting a notification of a band I like going on tour, when tickets go on sale, when I get tickets. Getting to the venue. Getting new merch. And when a new album drops. I have met a few performers. I met, Doro from Warlock, Kirk from Crowbar, Greg from Testament, Ralph from Primal Fear, Ben from Goatwhore, I almost got run into by Philip Anselmo once in New Orleans where Saint Vitus was playing. He apologized too me for almost running into me. I told him it's all good. I met Lecherous Nocturne in New Orleans. They were wondering where the French Quarter was I pointed in the direction they needed to go. This was March 2009.

I was on the sacrament of sin on tour in January and at some point of the show, to start “we drink your blood” Attila asked us, now that we have the blood (they just finished “all we need is blood”) what do we do? And I gathered all the vocal force I had left and metal screamed the title of the song, and half the room started cheering and The band exclaimed “yeeeah that’s it !! We drink your blood” and to be honest I never felt so powerful.

I can't wait to make some memories like that. The only have two so far
One day when wearing my Benjamin Breeg Iron Maiden shirt and every store I went to (3) someone from each store complemented it and told me about the time they went to a Maiden concert.
The other, I was wearing the Emperor shirt I got through The Metalhead Box at the Dollar Store and some guy who smelled like pot who had a 7 year old son noticed it. He asked where I got it. I told him. We talked about Black Metal a little bit too. After leaving the store, he through the horns and I through mine. 🤘🏻🤘🏻

My one really standout metal experience I can think of has to do with hair metal, so DEAL WITH IT!
So me being someone who's pretty nerdy about hair metal, I've made a few videos on my channel that had to do with the music. One of them got the attention of a guy named Stevie Rachelle who is the singer of a band called Tuff, one of the many bands coming from the late 80's-early 90's explosion. He messaged me on my Facebook page complimenting me on my videos and asked if he could share a couple of them on his blog called Metal Sludge. Some time into our back & forth, I mentioned that I was gonna be seeing Firehouse (one of my all time favorites in the genre) live, and Rachelle then tells me he messaged CJ Snare (Firehouse's singer) about adding me to the VIP list for the show I was going to. He also asked me for my shirt size and sent me some shirts and CD's, and I did an unboxing video of those. But it was thanks to my videos geeking out about hair metal that I got to meet one of my favorite bands.

I've been living in this city for over a year and didn't have any friends from outside of my job. Then couple of months ago I started going to some local bands shows. Just me, on my own. On one of these I saw a girl I recognized from a previous gig I went to. I talked to her a bit and now she's my concert buddy, we send each other info about shows and meet beforehand to grab the 1st row spots. I decided to stay a bit after the last show we went to and as I was ordering a beer I saw a guy wearing hoodie of one of my favorite bands so I chatted him up asking if he's going to see this band live next month. We ended up hanging out to like 3AM that night and got some pics with the band.
Fast forward couple of weeks- I introduced the girl and the guy, this summer we're going to a festival together. All of us went to see some awesome folk metal bands last week, we met some time before the venue was opened and left after last band members went into the bus. I think I got myself a proper crew. I got to meet some other people I recognized from other shows too and I play MTG with the band hoodie guy. This is the most welcoming community I've ever seen. I'm so glad to be a part of it \m/

The best concert story I have is from the second time I saw Alice Cooper. I had been told by several people (including his former agent) that I look like him so the when I saw him for the 2nd time last year I did the make up (had a very talented makeup artist do I'd be blind if I did it myself) I may have been in the nosebleeds but I made up for it by confusing almost everyone I talked to at the show. My profile pic is actually me after that show.

When I moved to the country I'm living in I had almost nothing to do but stay inside my temporary apartment and go to school, so one day this girl posts an Instagram story promoting a little local bands event (she was the girlfriend of one of the guitarists) . I just thought of going for the sake of enjoying some metal but turned out I met around 20 people that day, and at least 5 of them became my best friends. Because it was summer, we met each other almost everyday to talk and play some music. It was awesome to know how a simple event like that would help me so much. We still hang out and go to festivals together

My best experience definitely has to be when I was out at this bar with my family. There was this band playing music there but it was only your typical bar band type shit like Oasis etc, nothing metal.
Anyway, at the time I was wearing this Slayer shirt that I had gotten from when I saw them in London last year. At one point I get up to go to the bathroom and when I get back, I notice the frontman of this band kinda looking up at me from time to time. Then once they finish the song they were playing, I shit you not, dude looks me dead in the eye and begins playing the opening riff to South of Heaven. I'm usually shy as fuck but at that point, I basically attracted the attention of everyone in that bar with how excited I got. The frontman just smiled at me and the rest of the band just kinda laughed.
After they finished up of course I had to go talk to this dude, which is surprising for me because again, SHY AS FUCK. We talked about metal for a while, I talked about the concert I got my shirt from and he told me all these stories he had from touring around bars with his band. It was awesome. Eventually I had to go but as I was leaving he called my name. I turned around and he threw me the horns. Literally never felt more socially excepted in my life. I hope that guy and his band someday become big and successful

Dude my best heavy metal memory would have to be my very first festival. I just graduated highschool and I heard about this one off festival called Moonstock happening in August. So I looked into it and the headliner of the festival was Ozzy Osbourne with the gimmick of playing the song Bark at the Moon during the total solar eclipse when it was in totality. So Mediately I bought the VIP tickets and spent all my graduation money on the festival, with no idea on how to get there witch is about 7 hour drive. About a month went passed and I still didn't have a car to get to the festival, so I ended up buying a 400$ Ford Taurus from a garage sale that my dad and I had to make makeshift floor boards for. Now I was set to go and head out on my first big journey by myself so I left off that friday morning in my p.o.s car that i was hoping that would just get me there. I finally arrived that afternoon, set up my camp, and started the long weekend of rocking. The last day of the festival was monday so i got up super early to pack up and get in line for Ozzy. I got to the line about two and half hours before they were supposed to let us in, however the security messed up and let us in early fortunately they didn't send us back in the line. So there I was front row right in between where Ozzy and Zack Wydle play waiting till 1:20 am. It finally came Ozzy took the stage and it was pitch black outside then played a killer set. So that was my first festival experience and first time seeing Ozzy live and I loved every second of it.

I've also met so many wicked and friendly metalheads everywhere. In the grocery store and flashing the horns at each other, at the mall, at concerts of course. I remember when I had Slipknot VIP, the people around us turned to us and we all screamed and sang in each others faces, headbanged together, and some shared joints and bongs that they somehow snuck in and when the show ended, we all high fived and left and inevitably found each other on IG. I've seen stories of people getting dirty looks and insulted at pop concerts and yet at a metal show, everyone is just like a huge accepting family that I'm so fucking proud to be a part of. \m/

Hi from a russian headbanger. I really agree beeing a metalhead gives lots of awesome experiense. Idk what can be better than accidentally meeting another metalhead. Once I saw a guy wearing slipknot merch and threw the horns to him so he got really happy. But the greatest thing was when I met some deathcore fans (they are in a band and play fucking cool) when going to St Petersburg by train with my class. I just told a joke about Abbath at loud to my classmate (she is not a metalhead actually but knows smth from my words about it) and the guy heard it and was like "wait, somebody said black metal?"
Later i drawn my corpsepaint with my friend`s cosmetics and just suddenly appeared at their place where they were listening to chelsea grin. We had fucking great time together listening to metal, headbanging, making corpsepaint, watching music videos and speaking about metal a lot.
I so fucking love metal \m/

I finally got to the point where I figured life was too short not to take charge of my life, so, I make it a point to meet somebody from each show I go to now. All I can tell you is, I've met most of my idols and it's often very satisfying. I have this tendency to sneak back stage and get autographs and shit, but usually the smaller venues. One of my favorite experiences as a Metalhead happened in 1988. Armored Saint had an evening show in Boston but during the day they did a meet and greet at the local Strawberries Records. I had worked M-F at a theater so I couldn't go to the meet and greet. But my friends went and had the members sign a paper plate for me. That night I saw their show and they were great. The bass player, Joey Vera, tapped my shoulders with the head of his bass like a man being knighted having his shoulders tapped with a sword by the king/queen. I thought that was kind of funny.

I got a high five from Alexi Laiho.
I got to rock out with Floor Jansen.
I got to rock out with Joacim Droden.
I got to hang out with Sabaton after their show.
I got a shout out from the sage by Helsott.
Being almost 7 feet tall at a metal show has advantages.
But I have a couple non-show stories as well. Shortly after Dio died, I was driving around listening to his Holy Diver album. I stopped at a red light, had my windows down, and looked over at the car beside me. A really somber look came across his face and he slowly flashed me the horns and said RIP Dio. I returned the gesture and we both drove off.
Another time I was listening to Children of Bodom, again while driving. Stopped at a red light, and a car pulls up beside me. Turns out they were listening to the exact same album that I was listening to.

I've got 2 moments I'd love to share. I feel like living in Florida, I get spoiled with metal moments. The first moment was at a Nile show with Ex Deo in Orlando. I remember being right in front of the stage for Nile, but a friend of mine tapped me on the shoulder and pointed at the bar. At the bar was the vocalist of Ex Deo talking to David Vincent from Morbid Angel, keep in mind that Morbid Angel wasn't playing that night. So I left my spot and rushed to the bar. When I had the chance, I shook hands with David Vincent and exclaimed "You're Morbid Angel!" which he replied with a laugh and said "Yes, I am the Morbid Angel!"
Second experience happened recently. Beyond Creation has become one of my most favorite bands of all time, and are a huge inspiration for me, so when they were selling VIP tickets to their show in Orlando, I bought them without hesitation. They just finished sound check and we're all standing by the merch table. I start talking to Simon about Strandbergs and how I'd love to have an 8 string Strandberg. He then tells me to follow him and he let's me try out BOTH of his custom Strandbergs.

I've met this guy at a Bay Area Strikes Back tour in Wrocław. He was circa 40, and had a GLORIOUS vest. So many good bands. He said these are all bands he saw. We've had a great chat, I've met his friend (he plays in Warfist). That experience alone was so great! I always feel as If I were on a huge family meeting instead of a show (especially if you're drunk).

1.Becoming inspired and motivated to try out new things and endure painstaking endeavors 2. Gigs you will remember all your life (in my case these would include Bolt Thrower, Testament, Opeth, Threshold, Carcass, Rhapsody and Bal-Sagoth) 3. Talking with the band members; can be both memorable and life changing.

My greatest experience was seeing Pantera open for Skid Row in 1992 on the Vulgar Display of Power tower when I was 17. They encored with both bands playing Cold Gin by KISS and Dime was in Space Ace makeup. It was amazing and I'll never forget it.

I don't live near any of my friends really because I meet everyone at gigs and festivals.
I started a review site just over a year ago called Ostara Metal (ostarametal.com if you want to have a look). It's for folk, power and pagan metal. I almost didn't start it because an ex said "there's loads of review sites out there"... Suffice to say he's an ex for a reason. Anyway, I started in January last year, in the February a Swedish folk metal band called Grimner released an album which I reviewed, and in March they came over to the UK to play. I had talked a little bit to one of the vocalists/guitarists before on Facebook, and the band shared my review. Then I saw them at met them in Nottingham, and started speaking to more members. Now I class two of them as really close friends. Without that, I probably still wouldn't have gone over to Sweden (which I did to hang out with my friends for a long weekend), I wouldn't have travelled to Berlin and met another band who released an album that I also reviewed (those beautiful people just sent me one of everything merch and album wise), and there are loads of little experiences like that that would never have happened if I either didn't listen to metal or listen to my ex who said I shouldn't bother.
I also went to my first overseas festival in Germany, met some awesome people, saw some amazing bands, had press access for it which was incredible.
But in general, pretty much all my friends and happy memories are because of metal.

My ultimate metal experience was when I lived in Oslo Norway back in 87-93! My dad was stationed there cuz of the Air Force, I went to school with Gylve Fenriz Nagell of Darkthrone and partied out with Hellhammer,Necrobutcher, and Euronymous of Mayhem! I was literally into black metal before it blazeforth in the States!! I am true black metal from a long time ago!!! May Odin Keep My Love Euronymous and Dead in his army of warriors!!!🤘🤘

Some guy at a bar in Omaha noticed my Shining T-shirt one late night, struck up a conversation. Eventually I wrote him a long list of great bands and albums to check out and he ran back to his apartment, grabbed a killer doom metal album and gave it to me as a thanks. It came with a digital download when he bought it so he was covered. Just thought the generosity was amazing!

I had a pretty cool experience just the other day, thanks to my Battlevest.
A little context: in my local town (in and around the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area, Pennsylvania) there isn't much in the way of Metalheads, and especially not with Battlejackets. I've only seen one other person out in public with one, and it was some chick with a Metallica tribute vest I spotted at the mall. So, me and my vest are a pretty novel sight. I get funny looks and questions all the time because my jacket is usually the first one people around here ever see.
Anyway, me and my buddy Will were in a Wendy's getting something to eat before leaveing the city to got home. The girl behind the counter taking my order geeked out a bit, came out from behind it, and started checking out my vest, telling me about how she listens to allot of Rock and Metal too, and seeing how many of the logos she recognised. Just then, two friends of hers walked into the shop and joined her in checking it out. She decided to ask to take her break then and we all started talking about concerts we've been to recently. Another older lady who was waiting on her food chimed into the conversation aswell, talking about how, now that she's retired, she spends all her access cash on Heavy Metal concerts and CDs (Fucking life goals). We all talked for about 15 minutes untill Will got antsy because he was hungry, so we had to take our food and leave. But it was still a cool experience, and it's always neat to get to talk music with new people.

One or two metal experiences that are fucking sick as hell. 1 experience was when I went to Devastation on the Nation tour 2018 with my friend and we met this huge dude (bald, beard, 6'1, viking beer bellied, boots, camo shorts, amon amarth type looking dude) who was in the pit with us and me and my friend ended up being friends with him. He was such a cool and sweet guy and helped people up in the pit and we had conversations in between sets all evening. Ther was another kid me and my friends ended up pitting and hanging with at that concert too with long hair and shit! Similar experience was at the Decibal tour this year when cannibal corpse was playing, I got in the pit, and the guy must've loved my back patch because as CC was in the middle of playing a song he came up to me while I was taking those short intervals out of the pit and shouted (as you do at a concert) "You like Acid Witch!!??" (Or so I assumed he said at the time) I obviously shouted yeah because it's my favorite band and it's my back patch. He said fuck yeah and soon after I said it back and we carried eachother through thepit, we put our arms around eachother and headbanged our long hair (multiple times doing that that night)like Metal brethren and shit. Too bad I didnt get his damn number, wouldve been fucking awesome to hit him up and hang out more with the dude. To think i never wouldve gotten to experience those experiences had I never been a metalhead or listened to metal.

Once I was in the car driving to a concert, but to get to the car park we had to drive past the long line of metal heads queuing to get in. I threw the horns out the window as we were driving along the line and almost everyone did it back as we drove past!! It was awesome🤘🏻 being a metal head is the best🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥

I live in a small village full of metal heads, all my friends like metal, their families like metal and some random people who I happen to see every morning compliment my band t’s. I also remember, someone stopped at our gas station which I just happened to be at me gave me a weird look for wearing one of my band shirts. It made me question if that women has never been to my town before. She was probably was a mom too, she had a kid next to her. Idk, she could’ve kidnaped him.

Some of my best experiences (They are kinda long)
-While waiting in line on the grocery store, I saw a big guy along with three other people wearing a Kreator shirt and I said "Hey! I listen to Kreator!". He replied, "Hell yeah! You also listen to Slayer right?". Naturally I said yes and the guy told his family (I thought) that he listens to Kreator and I listen to Slayer. We talked a bit about metal and after my mom bought the groceries, we departed and gave each a goodbye. Fun fact: The teenager girl in the group(I assumed to be his daughter) wears a cutesy shirt with Death Metal written on it. I thought it was funny.
-Mom and I got into a check up for my scoliosis. After I got my new brace and measuring like so, I wore my Metallica shirt (it's Jump In The Fire shirt) , one of the doctors saw it and said that he likes heavy metal and he is glad to see a patient who likes it. Mom was happy and I was happy. We gave each other a high five for that.
-While waiting for the gates to open, I talked to the security guards and other non-faculty members about some random stuff. The main guard told the students that if they want smuggled out to the big gate and want to get their asses out. When I heard it, I thought about "Breaking The Law" by Judas Priest and started humming its melody. This got the attention of one of the non-faculty member and started moving his head to the beat. I asked him if he knows this song. Sadly, the bell rang and I need to go. I wish we could talk more about Judas Priest and other bands.

Once, me and my school had a trip to an island, which you take a ferry too. I was in the line to the ferry like everyone else. Then, to my right, I noticed a car driving somewhat slowly past me. I didn’t think much of it, and almost tripped. I looked to the car, and I saw the still looking at me. I got a bit mad, so I threw my arms up in the air to say, what the hell, you know. Then one of the people in the backseat threw up the horns. I was stunned, so I quickly pulled up the horns and ran back to the line.

There have been so many great things that have happened to me because of metal but the best thing happened to me this year. So back in the day my dad's guitar teacher had a band called MAS OPTICA they are a prog thrash band and their vocalist was named Rick Diederich and and in my first 5th grade explorer class we have a sub and her last name was Diederich and so I was able to Identify that she was related to him and we had a very good discussion about he and the band

In my cassette player I had Cannibal Corps The Bleeding playing during this trip. After we were back at the lot someone told me that one of the guys was literally frightened of my music. Not my first concert but the best concert I was ever at was last year it was testament anthrax lamb of god and slayer napalm death opened but I missed that set I was car pooling with a couple friends and by the time we got to the city the concert was just started and it was absolute hell trying to find parking so we walked in and testament was playing brotherhood of snake I thought I missed a bit of the set seems how they only played 7 or 8 songs but no they just opened with that and closed with over the wall anthrax absolutely fucking killed it they were the best performance but lamb of god was a close second and slayer did amazing and then after the show they put a spotlight on Tom for about 10 minuets and he started crying on stage it was the first time any of those bands have ever came to my city so I’m glad I got to see them play for the first and last time in a new place it was really cool and emotional and you know it was a good concert when the next day it hurts to even think about moving needless to say I had a good time

1st story: once upon turning back home from work i get into the bus, i was wearing my Bolt Thrower Mercenary shirt and pair of those needle bracelets around my arms, i go into the bus and take a seat and suddenly a cop gets in, i have my earphones on and i just look like ,,oh fuck did i do something wrong" because he just approached seat nearby, he takes a seat and throws horns at me, we even get into a little chat and he tells me when he was on Bolt Thrower concert. It was so unexpected
    And second one:
New boss on place i work started working two months ago, he had his thrash metal band and we became friends because of metal
