For REALLY thick patches, a lot of sewing kits come with what's called a glover's needle. It's got a triangular tip that's made for punching through leather. As far as thread goes, they sell black artificial sinew, which you cannot break with your hands. It'll make your fingers bleed before it breaks. And for a really sturdy stitch, try a backstitch. It doubles back on itself for added strength.
I'm a huge Cradle of Filth fan. Lovely vest by the way. I have yet to get my own started, but my first patch I have had for several years is a Cradle of Filth Elizabeth Bathory one.
Holy Shit! I was at that Iron Maiden (+Alice Cooper) concert back in 2010 too when I was probably just 9 or 10 (best first concert ever), I swear I can remember the majestic metal man that inspired you to start yours because I was considerably far back as well. I'm 18 now and have been a metalhead for years but am just getting around to starting my first vest now and didn't realize we were at the same concert. \m/

I have had motorcycles for my only transport for ten years now. I am glad I found this video . I see you put video games and cartoon on yours. I now will add my motorcycle patches on my vest. Thanks
I have started my vest for about a few months now and I am so happy with how it's coming along. About almost all of the patches I paint by hand and I hand sewn all of them onto the vest. I have patches for the following bands; Cattle Decapitation, Abnormality, The Agonist, Aborted, Slice the Cake, Killitorous, Anaal Nathrakh, Ebony Sorrow (local black metal band to the city I live near), Disfiguring the Goddess, Nader Sadek, and Fallujah ( my fav band). And then along with the band patches I have a cthulhu patch, a pyramid head patch, a halo of the sun patch (silent hill symbol), silent hill logo patch, coffin patch, eye of ra patch, and a pyscho doctor patch. Also I have spikes and studs on the collar. But as to comment on the video, your vest is rad as fuck man! All those patches are badass. As for the monster vest you're thinking of doing, I would honestly keep an eye out on etsy for shops that make patches or try asking for any crafts people to do commissions for you.
Michael Flaherty Dude niceeeeee. Aborted are amazing, and so far Disfiguring the Goddess is one of my fav brutal death/slam influenced projects. I wonder if the guy behind the project is going to make more music? Cause not too long ago he was posting stuff on his facebook page. Also if you are interested in more brutal death single member projects, check out the project Methwitch. ;)
I remember I started my vest back in November my best friend gave to me cause it was to big on him and I added spiked on the shoulders and from then on history was made! I have nearly covered the whole vest in patches, spikes, studs and pins
I started on my back patch on day two. I didn't know shit about sewing, but It got easy once I learned and only took me a few minutes to get the gist. Now I've turned it into a hobby of mine.
I actually sew by hand a lot for both my battle vest and making costumes, and I like hand sewing for the same reasons you mentioned. Though for anyone watching that doesn't like hand sewing or doesn't know how to use a machine, I discovered a thing at Wal Mart called liquid stitch, I think , in the craft aisle. I use it to put sturdier fabric together and all you do is just use it like glue over the shape and press it on your vest ; it dries within a half an hour, but it's really convenient
Anyone know good places to get patches? I already bought a Death Human patch, but I want some from bands like Atheist, Cynic, Timeghoul, Martyr, Nocturnus, Sadist, Wayd, (I realise that a Wayd patch is most likely impossible,) Suffocation, stuff like that.
Your battle jacket is rad man!! My friends and i are starting our own jackets right now and I've been marathoning your videos while i sew on my patches. I'm the same way where i can just sit and sew but i needed something to play in the background and decided to put on my favorite metal head.👌👌
is it wierd I have a behemoth and dark funereal patches but also linkin park and a day to remember? should I make my vest just one genre or any band I want?
Star buttefly Do whatever you want with your vest and fuck anyone who shits on you for it. I have some of the most extreme metal bands on my vest, but I also have 5 Pink Floyd album patches plus a few punk patches (Misfits, Negative Approach, etc.) and even a Muse patch. Never be afraid to show off what you like when it comes to your battle vest.
My tip for sewing on larger patches: If you're obsessive like me, you want everything to be straight and centered. Sew the corners down first, so if you fuck it up, you don't have to undo an hour of work. After you get it the way you want it, sew it down all the way. It helps a lot.
im really sorry to keep bothering you, but i really wanted to ask, what exact jacket is that? what brand/model and all that (if you still have it) and if you do know, could you send me a link to buy it? it would be a HUGE help.
honestly I just went to ebay and looked up "black denim vest" and bought one for like $50. if you want a good patch store look up yourpatchstore on ebay
I'd recommend UKRPATCHER on facebook, they do the best custom patches, and also have fairly cheap shipping fees (only like 3 or 4 bucks no matter how much you order) gotten some pretty top notch shit from them
+Alice In Hell Maybe late but theres a Guy on eBay cald "thirapong" with realy cheap and good patches, it's free worldwide shipping from Thailand but its realy fast it took 6 days beetwen me placing the order and putting the patches on. Would recomend and buy from again.
People who hate and talk crap about Cradle Of Filth don't understand the band. COF are not a Black Metal band, they don't even try to be, they've got much more in common with certain Gothic Metal bands like Theatres des Vampires.
Although their still really different,I think Theatres Des Vampires it's kinda of a middleground between Moonspell and Cradle of Filth, although they're more in a Moonspell direction, they're music is less extreme than CoF's
I could only sew on two patches at a time before getting bored. It'll be seeing it's first festival in a few weeks, let's hope it holds up for the week of thrashing.
I love your channel, there's not many metalhead youtubers, your opinions have opened my eyes a couple times in a positive way, keep on the brutality!! \m/
Hello again. I started with my very own battle vest recently and I found it a thrilling enterprise. When I told my folk about it, my mother came forward, that she would help me with her sawing machine, but i rather made it myself. As you said, it was quite relaxing (though my back hurted, as I was bending over it like a hunchback). I watched an ice hockey game while sawing. I must say, that sawing the big back patch is pretty difficult, if you want it straight and centered. I used thick black thread for denim buttons and I think it will hold fast. Next I am planning to attach a bottlecap from the Trooper beer. If someone has a clue how to do it, please tell me
cradle is fucking wicked!! I dont know why so many have hate boners for cradle... anyway, i just ran across your vids on here, good vid personality...keep it metal🤘
I started my vest only last summer and I've finished since then mostly because I filled it with patches I've made myself. eventually I made a second one and just made every single patch even handmade the back out of bleach, fabric markers and black fabric
I get iron on when i can and then sew it on as well. I also like to use diferent collor stitching for high contrast wich i think looks prrty cool and ads a skatepunk element to my vest as well
i use both iron ons and sew ons, little tip use iron ons and when the glue is still melted you can sew it on for extra security, mine have stayed on for years :D
I have the wings I got for my first solo flight pinned on my battle jacket with pins for each kind of plane I've flown, and some roller derby patches mixed in with all the band patches. . It's weird but I love it!
For my 3 battle jackets i use different things to put stuff on. I sometimes buy iron on patches then put fabric glue on there back then thread them with a leather needle. it stays on and it takes a lot to get them off. Also I think you should look into fabric glue and Movie tees buying the t for like $20 and cut it up for patches.
I listen all kind of industrial music from metal to electro and started my vest by saving picture from my bad wumpscut t-shirt. Now I have only three patches on my vest and two are waiting to be seved on it but I have clear plan on buyng alot more and after this video I am probably going to put some game and black metal patches on it.
i've been using kevlar thread so far (i've had a hard time finding motivation for sewing on new ones),but it works fine just fine, i found the thread at a fishing store (hardware abd etc store that is), and the thread is used for making fly fishing baits i guess you call it?.how ever it's rough and it works amazing.
I ran away from playing guitar because I was angry with myself for messing around and not learning how to actually play guitar. After a year I still didn't know anything cause all I did was try to free style and make stuff sound cool. When I realized that it hurt. I'm impatient and have ADD so that didn't help with the sitting and learning part. But I listen to heavy metal and it always makes me want to pick up the guitar. I head bang in the shower almost everyday. I'm going to learn how to play, I wanna shred some day.
1. For thick patches have you tried leather or canvas needles and an awl,it makes life easier? 2. That album art is pretty typical of late 60s early 70s psychedelic album sleeves, 3. Nice vest. 🤘😎
Very nice vest, glad to listen a guy know how to saw. I like to saw the patch with making like chains saw around it. I want to do my vest when I get some time I will like a black vest for death, black metal bands and a blue vest for speed, thrash and heavy metal bands. Eheheheh a vest by style. Cool bottoms and patch from video games.
In my battle vest I have 8 patches so far and they are Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica, Gojira, Black Sabbath, Cannibal Corpse and System Of A Down. I have each member of the big four in each corner on my vest with the other 4 in between them
ALSO! I have a video about making patches! Feel free to have a peek at my channel if you want, patches are reasonably easy to make yourself if you like the look of homemade ones. And I use embroidery thread for sewing on patches, it's nice and sturdy!
Back in the 80's, I had a simple Battle Jacket(demin). Just 3 small patches only. Black Sabbath, Dio, and W.A.S.P. But I don't recall the name "Battle" for these things back then.
Where can I find album cover patches? I can't find any patches in my country (Philippines) all I see are just logos of the bands the only album patches i've got is an Iron Maiden Killers patch and a Metallica Master of Puppets backpatch (its not really a patch its just a ropebag i cut off and placed in the back of my vest)
In my last iteration of my vest, I had over 54 patches, I'm redoing it completely since I'm getting some Pit Vipers and some super sick British Knight hi tops, I'm at about 60 patches (benefits/disadvantages of being a thicc giant)
There's a store that sells band and horror movie patches on Etsy.com. They are called LordOfTheLeftHand. Pretty cheap and all the patches are printed on cloth.
I also have a vest with Maiden on the back but I picked Live after death inspired of Hellbutcher from Nifelheim that pointed out it as one of the most beautiful things he ever seen. Got all kinds of patches on that one. Also have a black with the back dedicated to our pride Bathory and focus on extreme metal. But with the perfectly logical exceptions of Maiden and Manowar he he.
I actually REALLY fuckin love the layout of your vest. The patches and pins are great too, but the way they’re all laid out looks amazing.

Oh my god! I didn't know that heavy metal was SO GAY! You should become a fashion designer!
krimson70. Is there something that that you'd like to share with us , Beiber bopper?
mrghost3601. Like what I asked krimson, who can't even spell his -her user name correctly?
either a simple over /under stitch ,or a in& out stitch woorks well with iron on patches, BMW
I use safety pins for additional 'metal.' Plus I may want to move stuff around.
You should do a video on metal festivals! Best festivals, festivals you want to go to or have been to and your experiences.
I actually enjoyed that Rob zombie album, and sick battle vest.
That burzum one looks amazing
i've been using kevlar thread so far (i've had a hard time finding motivation for sewing on new ones),but it works fine just fine, i found the thread at a fishing store (hardware abd etc store that is), and the thread is used for making fly fishing baits i guess you call it?.how ever it's rough and it works amazing.
I thought i was the only one with Blind Guardian patches on my vest. BTW Your vest is awesome! I'm really starting to love your channel!
I'm going to learn how to play, I wanna shred some day.
you always could sew it on instead... a few of the patches that I have on my vest are iron ons..
A Simple in and out stitch comes in handy,BMW
1. For thick patches have you tried leather or canvas needles and an awl,it makes life easier? 2. That album art is pretty typical of late 60s early 70s psychedelic album sleeves, 3. Nice vest. 🤘😎
Cool vest! and you are right! every one do own! Well perhaps I do my own video about battle vest! Great videos!
I'm in the process of starting my battle jacket and I'm so hypeeee
Very nice vest, glad to listen a guy know how to saw. I like to saw the patch with making like chains saw around it. I want to do my vest when I get some time I will like a black vest for death, black metal bands and a blue vest for speed, thrash and heavy metal bands. Eheheheh a vest by style. Cool bottoms and patch from video games.
I LOVE YOUR DETHKLOK SHIRT! Metalocalypse is one of my favorite shows lmao💀🖤
Yesss, love it. I'm starting mine. I have the vest and ONE PATCH so far! haha. Thanks for the tip about sewing on the iron-ons though.
I enjoy hand sewing, like you said its relaxing and it really is
In my battle vest I have 8 patches so far and they are Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica, Gojira, Black Sabbath, Cannibal Corpse and System Of A Down. I have each member of the big four in each corner on my vest with the other 4 in between them
Great vest :D And glorious hair, of course!
Thanks for sharing~
ALSO! I have a video about making patches! Feel free to have a peek at my channel if you want, patches are reasonably easy to make yourself if you like the look of homemade ones.
And I use embroidery thread for sewing on patches, it's nice and sturdy!
Dragonball Patch on a Metal-Vest.. Dude. In my book you're level of coolness just increased by 300% ^^
I personally love the hand stitched look
Fabric glue works great to hold in place...then stitch it on to really lock it in...🤘🇺🇸
I didn’t know there were Brütal Legend patches, but now that I do I must have one.
The inFAMOUS series is epic! I wonder how you would rate them. I'am still hoping sucker punch will make at least one more.
Bolt Thrower just came to London last year (I believe) with Razor. Great show, I got a pretty decent patch there.
this is super rad dude, I plan on buying a vest and putting spikes and patches all over it
Back in the 80's, I had a simple Battle Jacket(demin).
