There's an idea! Turn other commercial/mainstream names into more "brutally pleasing" names! I bet a lot of great band names could come out of something like that, & if you've got a band there's the added bonus of familiarity in using such monikers, as subconsciously people might be more drawn to it without knowing exactly why! It's also a tactic used in branding/advertising!
I can see why people say someone is a poser when someone says he likes Metallica and like Ice-t or something but it's just dumb. Just listen to the music you like. I listen to many artists sometimes I listen more rap and sometimes metal or blues it also depends on my mood. Why is it even a thing to call someone a poser for not liking only metal bands...
Yesterday I literally went from listening to Celtics Frost to immediately listening to the Mama Mia soundtrack so that counts as Abba😅 so yeah I also believe people can have music taste that extremely differ.
I completely agree! When I went to my first Metal concert some years ago I was called a poser because I hadn't yet heard of many of the bands that a fellow concert goer was talking to me about. Instead of putting people down and calling them a poser you should embrace them into the community and educate them.
And they're wondering why nobody wants to really fully join-in! I mean, it's a brotherhood and lots of respect comes if you love Metal or Extreme music, but they literally cry over the smallest things: pAnTeRa, Deathcore not being really accepted besides it's own community, what counts vs what doesn't count as Metal, how good the vest looks (ok, don't get poorly made patches but still)!
Wanna know what a true Poser is? It's a metal band that lies about where they're from a frontman who tells local metal bands that they have a recording label of their own( ( when they're unsigned) They're signing bands... (how can they?) They are the true posers
the main ones in clothing shops now is (the average store) guns n roses, nirvana, pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, led zeppelin, Metallica, rolling Stones, you get joy division every now and then. I love how you say oh you like such and such out of excitement and they get mad at you because they have no idea what you're on about so you just walk away going alrighty...
1:29 Sometimes people who like Slayer are also called posers. Because some people like to call posers the people who listen to the more ''popular'' metal bands
+SmegSlebChef Wtf I didn't say I don't like slayer in fact I love Slayer. I'm just descrubing the behaviour of some people who like to call other people posers
Yeah slayer went mainstream and now everyone is wearing slayer tees because mainstream just like tallica or maiden but I'm a true fan of FUCKING SLAYER love all teh shit they put out esp RAINING BLOoOoOOOD!!!
I agree, but I cannot stand EDM, rap, or pop, and it pains me most of the time to have to call those genres music when discussing music. I love pretty much everything else outside of that, of course quite a few metal sub-genres, but also jazz, baroque, blues, even a little country now and again is fine. As far as I'm concerned, if it's got a good message, and especially if it's made with real and natural instruments, I'm not too picky and won't bitch (too much).
You have the most amazing personality, you really are gentle with what you say in a non push over way, and are very excepting, I hope some people in the metal community take something away from this, there are a lot of younger teens who are trying to understand the genre and need the older ones to guide them, not ridicule them for not knowing. Thanks so much for making this video. We want to keep metal alive, and we wont be around forever, we need to recruit the young ones as well to carry the torch.
I definitely see where you're coming from. like when someone tells me how they're so into metal. yet, when I ask what bands they like, they always mention hard rock and grunge bands. Unless they're new to the genre,That's always mildly annoyed me. but when they're someone who's the real deal but they like a few core bands on the side, I have no issues with that. it all comes down to if their heart is genuinely in it, and they're not just trying to impress people based on "durr. look how diverse my moozik tayse is. am I impressing anyone yet?" and imo, and I know someone will take me out of context or send me loads of crap over this, but it's kind of the same way with the word "elitist" I swear on it, everytime I see someone critique a band like babymetal or some core band, (legit criticisms, not the immature "dey ems pozurs" arguments) they always get lambasted by people screaming "elitist!/you don't like it therefore you're an elitist/hur hur typical elitist" myself and friends have even been called elitists, just because we can tell some sub genres apart. or just because we like death metal/black metal. I wish I was joking. in some cases, these anti-elitists can come off worse than the elitists themselves. now I got my little tangent out the way, good vid as always. :)
+C0ffeeChugger94 It's funny because I have had similar experiences. Why? Because I can tell the difference in subgenres. And I am not a subgenre basher either. Do I like power metal? Not really, but I will never bash the music, bands, or fans. It's still a legitimate branch of metal. People just get their feelings hurt when you say you don't like what they like.
Good thing Iv'e never encountered both, I'm not an elitist but I can definitely tell, sub genres of metal too, I guess both sides really have flaws, some elitist are really just plain pain in the ass but also can be said on some anti-elitist, I myself listen to Babymetal, and all the other mainstream genres and sub-genres of metal and I can always see some critiques towards the bands that I listen too, but it's their opinion, and I truly respect that everyone has their own taste after all, I just find it more fun enjoyable, if your a metalhead who can listen to almost anything from genres to genres and into sub-genres, that's just the way I do, and the way I listen to music..
People throw out the elitist thing all the time. I listen mostly to black metal from Norway, Finland and Sweden. I get called an elitist and a hipster all the time, especially when I have an unpopular opinion on any other band. It pisses me off honestly, just because I favour black metal; I don't think it's better than any other type of metal, it's just what I prefer.
I am a metalhead in heart, but i don't have long hair, i dress casually and also like music outside of the metal genre. Music like Ska, reggea, punk, blues, Jazz, classical and Celtic folk. And to top that, me and my girlfriend are taking salsa lessons, and next on our list are merengue and bachata. All three Latin dance styles. And we're pretty good at it if i may say so. What i'm trying to say is that at the end it's just music. And it's not the way you look, that makes you love the music, it's the music itself that does that. And music has no dress code, it's not forbidden or a sin to listen to a certain style but not act or dress like it. and people tend to forget that. It's healthier to live with an open mind. I also used to kick against people who didn't like heavy metal. I also used to have long hair and wear black clothes But that was 10 years ago. I have learned over the years that what i wear or the music that i listen doesn't identify me. It's who i am and what i love to do with my life that identify me. And if i want to go to a Blackmetal concert in casual clothing, i go to a blackmetal concert wearing casual clothing. Because you know what, i know what i like, and i don't have to prove that to anyone else.
You can listen to all different kinds of music and still be a metalhead. I'm goth but I listen to black and thrash metal, emo (not scene), punk rock, rock, and goth music. You don't have to limit yourself to one genre(:
@@paulhetrick1759 cupcake you don't get to decide who is a metalhead and who isn't. Your comments pretty much prove you are a elitist. Get over yourself (;
Roooood. If you look at my phone, you'll find like Paramore or Taylor Swift or Abba. Or Slipknot. But you'll also find Amon Amarth, Dimmu Borgir, Slayer and Iron Maiden to name a few (completely unrelated bands).... I would just like to live in a world where people can be themselves and be okay with that.
what pisses me off the most is when pop musicians or other celebs, who are totaly not into metal, run around in bandshirts. I mean, Justin Bieber in a Metallica shirt!? Miley Cirus in a Maiden shirt!? That just kinda looks wrong i think.
JB actually said that he wants to make his next album 'more metal'... also there is/will be a hipster store that sells Slayer T-shirts to ppl who only wear that cause few ppl wear it, you know hipsters Fucking kill me/them (preferably them) pls...
+Helloweeny Gamma-Maiden How do you know their not into metal? Because they play pop music? That's BS. I don't know if she still is or not, but Demi Lovato was a metalhead early in her career. She mentioned on Leno that she liked Dimmu Borgir, Job For A Cowboy, Abigail Williams, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Devil Wears Prada, Underoath, Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster, Lamb Of God, and Dr. Acula. She decided to become a Pop Artist more for business reasons than anything, because she realistically thought she'd have better chance of finding success on that path.
+Helloweeny Gamma-Maiden Honestly I don't concern myself with these kinds of people. Them faking (or actually being legit fans yet making pop music) doesn't affect me or the bands I listen to. I don't pay much attention to "artists" like those because those scenes are irrelevant to me. I'd rather just focus on metal and the other few other types of music that I like.
Why? Because you don't associate those people with metal. But maybe they really like these bands. Many people who don't seem metal have their favorites in Metal. What makes me cringe is H&M are selling RAMONES T-Shirts and all the dumb youngsters are running around, wearing the shirt from one of my favorite bands even though they certainly never heard, albeit would not at all like the music. Hell, they probably think RAMONES is some dumb label. Ugh!
Posers: Just because it's in Walmart doesn't mean you should buy it. Ac/Dc shirts, Nirvana shirts, Metallica shirts, those bands mean a lot to a lot of people, and just because you know "Back in Black," "Smells like Teen Spirit" or "Enter Sandman" DOES NOT mean that you know that band. I see so many rock, metal and grunge band shirts floating around and I ask people about them sometimes, and they just blank. "What's your favorite Metallica album?" "Oh.. uh... ya know... the one with 'Enter Sandman' on it..." Here's a rule of thumb: If you don't genuinely like the band, can't name at least 2 albums you actually like by the band, or only know their popular songs, it's probably not a good bet to wear that band's logo on your shirt.
Oh, and DONT MAKE A BATTLE JACKET UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY LIKE METAL BANDS AND KNOW THEM WELL ENOUGH TO WEAR THEM ON A VEST. So many kids walk around with A7x, Sleeping with Sirens, other rock and pop band patches on their "battle vests". I'm sorry, but no, that's appropriating metal. It's part of metal culture to have a battle vest, don't shit on our sacred uniform with your rock and grunge. Sure, if you like a rock band, you can like them. But don't dedicate a battle vest to them unless you have 10-20 (preferrably MORE) metal bands that you actually LIKE (see above guidelines as suggestion) that you'd be able to sport every day and be able to get into a conversation about.
Álvaro Bass No, but they're not in the metal community, and they don't know anything about metal. If you see an Indian family wearing their traditional garb do you go out and buy one, and then stamp your country's flag on it? No. Metal is a musical culture, the same idealogy applies. Now I'm not saying you CANT, but metal fans will likely frown on you if you do.
Álvaro Bass A culture involves music. Metal could be considered a culture, the same way we consider 80's style and 70's style to be culture. Because it had an origin, a common style of dress, music and a lot of other aspects of culture. We consider "retro" to be a cultural milestone in our history, just like the rock and metal movements were and still are
I don't understand why it's not ok to like popular bands like: Slipknot, Slayer, and Metallica! Slipknot actually introduced me to more extreme metal bands like: Cannibal Corps, Bathory, obituary and even Mayhem!
I guess cause the more popular something is, the easier it is to know about it, so all cause you like those popular groups, it means to elitists that you're a "poser". Much like how people who only watch Avengers movies or only play Call of Duty are seen as fake movie buffs or gamers.
Not everyone thinks that way. Those are gateway bands and a lot us used those bands to get into even more underground bands. I still enjoy gateway bands, but they're far from being my favorites.
It's ok as a beginner but not to only have patches of popular bands or T shirts: everyone can wear a Metallica, AC/DC, Slipknot shirt etc just because it's trendy and thinks that those bands are the best thing ever! I like when people wear bands that not everyone knows at first sight like idk, a Deathcore band (honestly, how many even would know of Suicide Silence or Lorna Shore and those are popular in Deathcore), stuff like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel (Death Metal) or even Punk Rock (Rancid, Bad Brains)... Now I'm not trying to gatekeep, I absolutely hate but my point is, everyone will reconise Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, AC/DC, Slipknot, Guns n Roses etc and when confronted you will see who is a fan and who got it just cuz it looked cool, that's the only form of gatekeeping I can accept, confronting others who have no idea what they have on a shirt or as a merch even if yea, some might say, it's his/her product and nobody has any right to question it
Not Metal related but I have that issue with "fans" who wear Nirvana shirts and only know Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are and Lithium or wear Guns N' Roses shirts and only know Sweet Child O' Mine and Welcome To The Jungle
Yeah man i once saw a dude in my school with a nirvana shirt and i told him "hey dude cool shirt, whats your favorite song?" And he looked at me in a very confused and kind of condescending way and i awkwardly walked away hahaha funckin posers that wear the culture as a fashion piece
Kane Oakley i mean, I get it, but if you really think about it, at some point you were probably that person who only knew a few songs, but it’s actually really cool that they know and like some songs so if it really bothers you, you can show them bleach or incesticide and try to expand their interest. Lmao I remember I used to be that person that only listed to the few songs on nevermind and some in utero, but now I know more than Id ever thought I would. For example, I like a few Guns N’ Roses songs (like the ones you mentioned) but I’m not such a hardcore fan (recommending some is the cool part) The part that really bothers me is when they don’t even know one fucking song or think it’s some sort of clothing line
Back when I was around 14-15 years old, growing up within the metal community in Romania, the "big, true kvlt, REAL" metalheads were using "pokemon" as a term for poser, only they didn't use it for posers alone, but as you said, simply abusing the term to the point where you were a "pokemon" if you didn't like a band that the respective person liked... It was friggin' annoying and especially discouraging for young people in the scene, who were just getting into the music and all that. This elitism is what made me kinda distance myself from the Romanian metal community in the years before moving away, because it felt like everytime I went to a metal bar, there was a "who has a bigger dick" contest going on and it just became ridiculous. I have no idea if they still use that term anymore over there, since I haven't lived there for so long, but I hope the people matured a bit more... :/
I got called a poser because I suggested a band to a guy that was metalcore, and he called them emo. Then he called me a poser because I listen to slipknot, and he also says new bands suck, but then I said well how would you know if this one sucks if you don't try them. Later on I made fun of grindcore just like he made fun of some of the stuff I listen to, and he got mad. I dident even get mad when he was saying this shit to me, I just kept it civil, because it really dident bother me too much. But just a perfect example of an idiot who is closed minded who can dish shit out but can't take it.
Don't feel ashamed to like Metalcore! I'm mainly into Thrash but I do enjoy listening to the likes of Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine too, even though they both have kind of left the Metalcore stage and are just regular heavy metal now!
I had a life changing moment when I was in High school . I was wearing a brand new Pantera Reinventing the steel shirt about 4 months after the album came out and another metal guy at my school who I never really talked to was going around talking shit about me being a poser. when I confronted him about it he said it was because My shirt was "new" and it wasn't even WORN OUT and he had one from day one and it was already faded. after that I started not giving a shit about what people wore or relating what they listened to to what they wear, their life style etc.
See, if you were a true metalhead, you'd have repeatedly stepped on the shirt on your driveway and washed it so that you could have a shirt that looked like it was 10 years old just 4 months after release. Jokes aside, when he told you his shirt was already faded you should have said "yeah but some of us own more than one piece of clothing".
I have never been called a poser, but I've been called: Hipster, Emo and fake-Metalhead. I don't give a shit though. Let me dress how the fuck I want. I've loved the Brutal Heavy Metal Fashion/style long before I got into metal and yeah,.. Kiss is my favorite band! Then there's Maiden, Sabbath, Tyr, Reaper, etc.
here in B.C. there is an abundence of emo kids who buy slayer shirts and metallica shirts from hot topic. i sometimes ask "hey you like slayer? whats your favourite song?" and they reply: "who? Black Veil Brides and Peirce the veil rule. theyre like extreme death metal" that is what the common poser in my area tends to be like
+GrayWoIf yes exactly. at H&M they actually sell Slayer and Metallica shirts. but the slayer shirts are like plain white with the logo in black so i see preppy kids who think it means "slay" buy those shirts and its really annoying.
Sinister Skulker I found Slayer socks at a Nike store and I got em. Pretty good purchase, actually. I'm glad I got them before some random kid who doesn't know who they are gets them to save them the embarrassment. I can only imagine how many kids have gotten them at other stores. But in a way that's a good thing, because maybe they'll go home, look them up, like it, and become part of the metal community
This video is basically me with everything. Everyone at school gives me shit for listening to metal, but then say Metallica's enter sandman is so good I love them. People give me shit for liking Pokemon, then Pokemon go comes out then everyone likes it. People give me shit for playing in a metal band, then they go a praise another metal band from another school. I don't really give a shit about people being a dick the to me because of my interest but honestly it pisses me off when they go and start liking those things after giving me shit for it
* wears slipknot shirt but listens to it just as much as death and thrash metal * let people like what they want. people who call others posers for liking a certain band is the ultimate poser.
I saw some woman wearing a Ramones shirt and I really like 70's punk. So I walked over to her and started saying "hey ho, lets go" and she stared at me like wtf are you on about. Then I said "You do listen to the Ramones don't you?" She said she did and I was like "what song is that from" and she kinda laughed nervously so I walked away.
+CJ LadyGroove Even though I'm ignorant on the subculture, it's my understanding that Goths listen to Gothic music. Am I correct or is there more to it than that? Because in the metal world a metalhead is just someone whose favorite type of music is metal. Not sure if it's the same way in the Gothic subculture.
There is a little more to it, but I guess you'd only know if you were part of the subculture. Alot of folk who identify as more "Trad" Goth can be pretty intolerant of other types of either Goth fashion or Goth music. For example Cyber Goth, Pastel/Kawaii Goth, Gothabilly/Hippy Goth/Steampunk etc. There are a few folks, even within other "subcultures" of the subculture that believe that if you are a fan of anything else (i.e. heavy metal or symphonic metal or anything other than "traditional" Goth music) then you are not really Goth i.e a POSER. It's total BS, but unfortunately quite rife in the culture. Boo
@@Poser_Metal_Records "Even though I'm ignorant on the subculture, it's my understanding that Goths listen to Gothic music. Am I correct or is there more to it than that?" Oh boy, did you ever ask a complex question. LOL! A HUGE debate on "what is Goth" has gone on for years now (as in over 30 years). If you brought together a bunch of 80's Goths and asked them to define Goth it would dissolve into a huge b*tchfest and the question would never fully get answered. In my opinion, there is more to it than that. For many, Goth is a lifestyle that involves art, literature, clothing, poetry, cinema, and an underlying aesthetic that colors our outlook on life, definition of beauty, and the world around us. Music is also included in that. However, what constitutes as "Goth music" is HIGHLY open to opinion as there isn't a universal and definitive list of approved Goth bands. Generally, you can tell which generation a Goth came up in by their favorite bands. For instance, if you meet a Goth that likes lots of aggrotech, industrial, hellelektro, synthpop, and ebm they most likely were teenagers circa 2000 - 2005 when that style of music was pretty popular in the Goth scene. Today's Goth teens and 20-somethings are really into the "dark synth hipster" type of Goth bands like Boy Harsher, She Past Away, and Twin Tribes.
@Claire R Even though I like Goth music as well as heavy metal, I don't put myself under those labels and just try to enjoy the music bc no one likes elitists
I do not describe myself as a metalhead, I only speak of the bands and styles I listen too. When I say I listen to black metal, everyone is disappointed I'm not a die-heart fan who knows every song of every black metal band there is and calls me a poser, even though I never say I was tr0o or whatever. I never even say I am a metalhead. People put me in this category and are angry I don't quite fit in there - it's fucking stupid.
Exactly, me neither, I don't label myself as anything. I like some metal bands, but I'm not going to call me a metalhead and wear leather with spikes just because, I have a personality.
You post a lot of good stuff, all well thought-out points. The thing I hate is calling someone a poser based on how they look. I don't dress like a metalhead, but that doesn't make me any less of a fan.
I've just recently started watching your videos and this one is great. I've been called a poser so many times for liking different music, with that I mean like I absolutely love metal, my favourite band is Iron Maiden but then I also have different music taste like Ed Sheeran for instance, and people are always like 'you're a poser' 'you aren't a true metalhead' and blah blah blah. It's just like no I just have many different interests in music that I like, my favourite is metal but it doesn't mean I can't like other genres as well. I agree it's just so stupid and it's used to try and insult you but it doesn't even do that, it's just stupidity.
Not really video related but... I wanna get more into Metal and go to concerts/festivals but none of my friends are into metal so i would need to go all by myself and that's kind of awkward i guess. How can i make friends that are into metal so i have some ppl to go to festivals with.
I think the best ways to make friends who are into metal would be going to those concerts/festivals and socializing with other people. It really is awkward going to those things alone but you're with somewhat like minded people. So just make friends there
Been watching your videos for a week now...been listening to metal since 83 and playing metal for since 88. Just subscribed. Looking forward to more of your videos. Stay brutal mate and UP the IRONS!
Why can't we like all kinds? I will listen to mayhem and then listen to nirvana. I will listen to slayer and then listen to slipknot I will listen to any type of metal or grunge. Just not rap or pop.
It's nice to see a metalhead who is knowledgeable and passionate, but at the same time level headed and not super elitist. Enjoying your channel so far.
I might consider myself a poser because I never encased myself in the metal genres. I do have some "blasphemy" tastes too like "goth" rock, punk, cheap-2000s punk, opera, pop and hip hop. But I must say I dislike even more people that you must certainly must know that speak about metal only and saying how much are they into metal and all that crap. They might say that they love Iron Maiden for example and they only know Powerslave. Or they say they are much into Doom Metal and only know Paradise Lost (and don't even know their style has changed a lot till this day). OH! But if they hear you ONE FUCKING TIME listening to something very "wrong" like say K-Pop, they start to criticize you for liking it. I normally tend to say something like "Fuck you, you thought Risk was the best Megadeth album!" or something along those lines.
I love this, you totally back up your reasoning as to why someone would call another a poser. too many people are assholes to others. you have good arguments.
I will say, I like most types of metal, not all though. I did get chewed out by a guy I met years back who was your typical hardcore elitist. I mentioned, I liked Sevendust, and just tore into me about how they weren' t metal, and how shit they were and that nu-metal was killing real metal, and just this torrent of nastiness. I don't real think of Sevendust as metal, they are hard rock, but they are genuine rockers and got a lot soul, blood, sweat, and tears in their music. My point is, that elitist are worse than posers. Posers just want to seem special and want attention. I don't hate them, I try to educate them and maybe bring some real metal, not what they played on guitar hero, into their life. The funniest thing I think is when someone changes their opinion on a band, just cause the race of the lead singer. A friend of mine used to hate this one band, the name escapes me, until we were watching some videos online and saw the lead singer was black. He switched his tune pretty quick after that. Did same thing with Sevendust and killswitch Engage. Of course after Howard left KE he stopped listening. I think you can consider that a type of poser, am I wrong?
Dude, I got called a poser on the game Darwin Project for having Metallica in my username. The person asked if I was born in the 80s first the I replied with "No man, I was born in the 90s" the he said "I don't like you because you're not a real metalhead" all because I wasn't born in the 80s like seriously wtf.
I guess I'm a "POSER". Besides listening to Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Immortal, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Skinless, Goatwhore, Destruction, Kreator, Tsjuder, Battlecross and many others, I also listen to ABBA, The Bee-Gees, The Stray Cats, Simple Minds, INXS, The Police, U2, Depeche Mode, Susie and the Banshees, Concrete Blonde, Collective Soul, Social Distortion, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, The Off-Spring, Mazzy Star, The New Pornagraphers, Snow Patrol and many others in the Alternative/Indie genre...I also listen to Classic Rock, Glam Rock, Punk Rock and Progressive Rock. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Queen, Foghat, Def Leppard, Skid Row, Motley Crue, Wasp, The Testtube Babies, The Exploited, Misfits, Fugazi, Rush, Yes, Pink Floyd, Queensryche. Also, Thrash, Industrial, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and 2000's. Except the current brand of Pop music that seems started in the early 90's. No Rap/Hip-hop, Electronic Dance Music (EDM), or even Metal with Rap. Yeah, a big Poser.
Same here too. Just enjoy the music; it's all good. It's our own preference. You may like bands/artists that I may not for one reason or another, and vice-versa.
I mostly listen to death metal, deathcore, metalcore, nu-metal, it's my main genres after all, but I also do listen to a couple of hard rock, classical pop, j-pop to visual kei.. Well, I don't care if some of those people call me a poser, for me a change of pace on music once in a while, listening to something different, its really quite refreshing and relaxing.. All in all I definitely get your point here so very well said man..
I hated that in school nobody like metal in my class but once guitar hero three came out everyone though they knew everything about Metallica and slayer ect.
If you like punk and metalcore you are a PUNK and hardcore fan. you are not a metal fan. Be happy to be a part of that group. Why the fuck you do you need to be called a metalhead so bad? Why not be called a punk fan? Why not be called a hardcore fan?
No, liking those things ALONG WITH liking metal. You can be a fan of more than one thing. I am both a metalhead and a punk, not one or the other. You are being exactly the kind of person I was talking about
Hannah Hendrickson No I'm not. YOU FUCKING LIKE PUNK MUSIC? Then why the fuck would you be so fucking a offend if someone were to call you a punk fan? You want to hide who you really are I'm sorry but that fucking pisses me off. I'm sick of people wanting to fake being something else just to be accepted. If someone is GOTH THEN BE FUCKING GOTH. If you like some metal bands great. YOU ARE STILL A FUCKING GOTH. Don't hide that just to be called a metalhead. Be that GOTH PERSON. I will be your friend. But if you are going to be a fake ass poser I want nothing to do with you. I want to know the real you not the fucking fake you. I get to many people who say "I'm a Star Wars fan." Turns out they are not even a fan at all. They are really a Star Trek fan and all they like is one movie. Look I like a bit of Star Trek to. But I will not sit here and call myself a Trekke. That's being a poser.
I'm not offended by being called a punk fan. I wasn't really offended at all until now. Humans are complex and can't be easily compartmentalized like you seem to feel. I never said which genre(s) I like more, because of the genres I listen to, I like them all about equally. This is not the same as your analogy, because I do genuinely like a lot of metal, and people telling me that I can't really be a metalhead because I also genuinely like other things in the same way really is kind of offensive. I am not one-dimensional, and I try to assume the same about other people. For example, someone can like both shooter games and RPGs, liking shooters doesn't mean that that person isn't a fan of RPGs as well
I've been into metal since the 80s and bought my first Slayer album "Hell Awaits" just because I liked the album cover.I've been a fan ever since. Slayer never got any songs on the radio back then and there was no internet. Metalheads shared albums to discover new bands. I'm glad I don't have this issue getting new music anymore. Thanks for the great videos Blackmetal Werewolf!
I agree^ probably your hair and then also the favorite song playlist on your channel has alot of black veil brides *vomits* and panic at the disco which are both very popular in the emo community
I totally agree. Part of me feels like the people who go around calling anyone a poser are just super insecure about themselves and the metal they're listening to. Other people liking other subgenres or other bands shouldn't be threatening.
I wouldn't call myself an extreme metalhead, but metal is the music I listen to like 99,243% of the time. I don't have any merch, because I am currently going through a growth spurt and I will get some shirts when I am full-size and in shape (hopefully). I only really started this year by listening to Slipknot at first, but now I have songs from Megadeth, Metallica, Pantera, Korn, Cannibal Corpse, Skinless, Rammstein and Mudvayne. I got almost only overrated songs for a few of them, but I am planning on looking further. I am currently giving Slayer a try and will more than likely add some songs to my playlist. I am also going to see Rammstein next summer, hope all goes well.
I get your point (this might trigger some) There are lots of metal heads who really really hates core bands and screamo. For me I think like what you said.. We are all in one circle. We should just instead be cool with each other rather than trashing one another.
I'm gonna keep on posing and discovering metal. Not afraid to admit if I'm not in the mood for metal I'll put on something lighter like Tokyo or some melodic rock etc. Actually I find listening to lighter stuff then going back to the metal makes metal even easier to appreciate. Good video. Thanks.
I like early Kiss and some glam rock. And I'm HUGE into classic rock like Rainbow, Deep Purple, Rush, Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult, ect... I still listen to plenty of metal, but I fluctuate between different stuff depending on my mood.
The guitar hero thing is so true. I've lived my whole life a metal head. And I was an outcast at school because no one else liked it. Then guitar hero came out and all of a sudden I walk around school and every one has GNR and Metallica shirts on. And when I asked a kid what his favorite GNR songs where he said sweet child oh mine and welcome to the jungle. And he couldn't name any others. And those are both on guitar hero. It did piss me off because my whole life I grew up listening to them. If I said I liked rock at school the kids would say that it was a trash music genre. So to see people turn like that did make me mad. But when it comes to people fighting in our own rock community it's just bad. We are a family and if one guy like Metallica better than slayer who cares, it doesn't mean he hates slayer, he just like Metallica more. I talk too much. Great video and keep on rocking \m/
I have been called a poser on more than one occasion for also liking music that isnt metal (bands like New Years Day, etc.) as well as metal bands. It really sucks cuz its like some people are like "fuck you, you cant be part of this" when despite enjoying different genres of music aside from metal, you are just as valid with the metal community. My favourite genre is metal (on a whole, im jot gonma go into subgenres) , ive loved it for years and it sucks to be called a poser.
Yes! I did corpse paint a while back from this band cause I found it cool and wanted to do it! And a metal head called me a poser for just trying something new and I never called myself a metal head or anything abt the bands or music. But I’m allways up to learn and more abt the heavy metal community and more music suggestions from anyone !🖤
so true for me and dubstep lol back years back, I reamber when I was sitting in class and people who I fucking hated, starting dancing and I was cringing so much ended up hating it cause of it
I sorta understand as someone who liked Slayer and then had the Guitar Hero Fade come through and get people to only like a Raining Blood and get pissed off at those people.. But there are a lot of people who's parents were sheltering them from metal, and couldn't feel the need to express themselves and taste of music until the game came out, and let alone got a lot of people not only interested but appreciating how tough metal can be to play. As a guitarist, Guitar Hero was definitely not only a stepping stone to work my left hand and making use of my pinkey, but a good reiteration of music that may had been lost from past decades that wouldn't be played on your normal classic hits station. Just figure I'd bring that point up..Totally agree with the concepts of the video though.
A poser to me is someone who wears a t-shirt or other clothing of a band, but aren't a fan or knows nothing about the band or couldn't name you one song. If you don't know or like the band, than don't wear the fucking shirt or clothing! We should not be calling each other posers in the Metal community. We should be attacking trendy, crappy celebrities wearing Metal shirts and other clothing. They are the true posers!
Hey Mr. Werewolf I'm 52 years old and probably old enough to be your dad. I as there at the birth of the underground thrash/death metal movement of the early 80's. I'm from the bay area thrash scene. The term poser started out in the punk rock scene of the late 70's. The poser term was taken up by die hard underground pure metal elitists against the mainstream commercial bands. Also the term "Death To False Metal". In the mid 80's the word poser was geared at very mainstream commercial bands like Dokken,Def Lepard and Poison from fans of darker heavier stuff like Destruction,Kreator,Exodus etc. Mainstream Metal fans into this commercial stuff had never heard about the thrash underground and had no idea they were viewed as posers from elitists like myself. It was much simpler back then. Today with so many Metal sub genres it's very complicated to call anyone a poser now. You are totally correct today that term is pretty weak and meaningless. Also in retrospect it was pretty stupid to begin with.
I wasnt crazy into metal before I played guitar hero. But playing guitar hero introduced me to slipknot, maiden, metallica, anthrax, megadeth, testament. I eventually bought all their cd's it got me passionate about music and I became a real big fan of metal. punk. grunge. industrial. To me poser isnt really at all a thing. We all start not knowing about something and we eventually build our knowledge of it and our passions for the music grow. Im called a poser in metal scenes and Im called fake in the punk scene. But to me the music is real and my love for it is.
Yeah Iv been called a poser. I was at bloodstock chatting to another meetalhead and he asked me who's my favourite black metal band after I told him that I listen to it. I said "It's either Burzum, Emperor or inquisition. I can't decide between the three" he started shaking his head and said "Huh... you fucking poser" and walked away still shaking his head. That was the only time someone called a poser to my face.
When I first got into harder music I kinda started off listening to stuff like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden when I was a kid. As I started getting older I got into core bands when I went through the whole emo thing, eventually a good friend of mine introduced me to stuff like Cannibal Corpse, Infant Annihilator, and Dying Fetus. I started looking around in the music and found Black Metal, which I'm just obsessed with.
Poser disposer I’m going to be honest there’s a right term poser to me means that people pretending to like it and not actually supporting it like you said that’s what i consider a poser
4:06 - 4:25 . . . NAILED IT. The classic "poser" meaning. If you're just getting into something, it's totally fine to be humble and admit that you're new to it. If you act like you're the shit or you've been a part of something for a long time, you're kidding yourself, and insulting those who have dedicated their time to something. The very worst is when that person abandons the thing they were making themselves out to be, because then it just proves that they didn't care for it at all. That, in my opinion, is an absolutely appropriate usage of "poser."
Agreed. Most often in situations when that one metalhead randomly comes up to me, because am wearing a metal band t shirt, piercings and black attire, tries to talk about the band and they themselves sometimes be wearing clothes you can find on a store ad for menswear, like target or something. At first, I thought poser, but then again realized of course not, because most had a great deal of knowing much about the music or show of different metal bands, depending on my shirt really XD.
This makes me feel a little better about not being so hardcore into a band. I listen to them but sometimes I just have yet to be really acquainted with the band. Learn some of the lyrics to a song, learn the band member's names. um.. learn where they came from. ETC.
This girl I know said she was a metalhead and when I asked what her favorite bands were she said "oh, I listened to metalicca a few times". Like holy fucking shit.
Totally agree with this video, and you found the right words for calling someone a poseer: "To discredit him or her". But I think even to people who don't listen metal, metalheads should be more open with them instead of calling them poseers, no one ever liked metal since they were born, someone or something got us into metal. What you call a posseer today, might start liking some metal bands and grow tih the same ideology tomorrow
Best thing about me being a metal head where I am is that my high school is pretty much divided into two groups: the rock/metal kids and the pop, hip hop, and rap kids. We even have a rock band instead of a jazz band
I remember going to residential college with someone like that. Despite being into pop and rnb I remember two cards he pulled during our 3rd year; I along with a few friends of mine did a what metal band are you quiz on bebo and he went and did it too getting Deicide which I got :/ Another time he was wearing an Iron Maiden tshirt and I (in a friendly manner) told him "I didn't know you was getting into them" and he replied "I never listened to them, I just thought it was a nice tshirt to wear >
I started listening to Nu Metal in junior high, or the 9th grade, didn't become a full metalhead until the 11th grade, even though I didn't have a lot of CDs at the time. Hell, I'm still learning at now 32 years old
As a big fan of 'Goth' metal I recommend Sirenia. (Pronounced Sigh-rer-nia) Listen to 'Dim Days of Dolor, this is a very catchy song. Their sound has changed over the years. Currently they are more operatic sounding. When they first started out their previous singer was more rock sounding. Search for 'Sail away' to find recommendations for their older material.,
I agree! To be opened minded does not mean to be a poser even musicians listen to many kinds of genders and what is the matter with that, as long as you enjoy and understand what metal is,no problem. If you like this or the other thing you know it is just music. But if someone just puts on a band shirt just because he wants to show he is a metal head but he doesn't like the music that is wrong.
i have always jokingly called myself a poser. i recognize i still have so much to learn and to listen to. also, like many other people in the comments, i am just a music lover! I enjoy all sorts of genres, from jazz to modern pop to old country to 80's dance music to gothic rock to nu metal to teenage pop rock/punk to hard rock to grunge to metal... You have to acknowledge one person alone cannot be an expert on anything and everything. however i kind of considered myself a metalhead because it was the genre i listened to more and wanted to know more about. but it is such a large universe that becomes very difficult to master. you have to be super dedicated and spend a great deal of time on it. i guess that's why posers are so annoying. being a girl also adds another layer to it, i suppose... in the end of day, who cares what someone calls you as long as you get to enjoy what you enjoy, simple as that.
I just love music. I can wear any of my Iron Maiden tees while listening to electronic music or anything that is not Metal, but I don't think that makes me a poser or less of an Iron Maiden fan. I don't see why me enjoying many kinds of music should upset anyone. I hope people will stop bitching at each other about things that really don't matter so much. I think there's enough room for everyone to listen to what they like and still get along.
Though I hate sub genre titles, can anyone tell me what AMARANTHE. would fit into? Personally I love them and consider them under the metal flag but am interested in what sub genre people see them ass. I was thinking Electronic Pop Metal but that doesn't seem to do them justice. Thanks everyone!!!
If doesn't matter what genre of metal you listen to, if you listen to metal and have passion for the music you like then you are not a 'poser'. Personally, I've listened to metal for 15 years and like a variety of genres. Most of the stuff I listen to is power/melodic sounding, but I also like some doom and death metal too. Despite being heavily into metal I still listen to pop/dance music such as Adam Lambert, Scooter, Westlife and Daft Punk. Westlife are badass!
ABBAth
Good one
There's an idea! Turn other commercial/mainstream names into more "brutally pleasing" names! I bet a lot of great band names could come out of something like that, & if you've got a band there's the added bonus of familiarity in using such monikers, as subconsciously people might be more drawn to it without knowing exactly why! It's also a tactic used in branding/advertising!
abbs like ths's
Lol
There's a user on RYM called Qwerty100 who's a huge metalhead that loves ABBA.
You know. I do believe a person can like both Abba and Cradle of Filth. Doesn't discredit that person's love to metal at all.
I can see why people say someone is a poser when someone says he likes Metallica and like Ice-t or something but it's just dumb. Just listen to the music you like. I listen to many artists sometimes I listen more rap and sometimes metal or blues it also depends on my mood. Why is it even a thing to call someone a poser for not liking only metal bands...
me too, my love is metal but I'll listen to country or pop or rap when I'm in the mood for it.
"I listen to everything, from ABBA to Anthrax!" -Corey Taylor OF SLIPKNOT
ABBA RULES!
Yesterday I literally went from listening to Celtics Frost to immediately listening to the Mama Mia soundtrack so that counts as Abba😅 so yeah I also believe people can have music taste that extremely differ.
No one calls me a poser cos I don't speak to anyone. Problem solved
Give this man a cookie
+Nolantis I would prefer a mini babybell please
+Capra Goat but you did it all for the nookie so you can take that cookie and shove it up your yeah
+Nolantis I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully
edgy
I completely agree! When I went to my first Metal concert some years ago I was called a poser because I hadn't yet heard of many of the bands that a fellow concert goer was talking to me about. Instead of putting people down and calling them a poser you should embrace them into the community and educate them.
Definitely agree with you
And they're wondering why nobody wants to really fully join-in!
It's a metal band that lies about where they're from
a frontman who tells local metal bands that they have a recording label of their own(
( when they're unsigned)
They're signing bands... (how can they?)
They are the true posers
I hate people that wear band t-shirts but don't even listen to the band, mostly Nirvana, Guns n Roses
And misfits
And Ramones
Asked a girl in my class with a Metallica shirt if she knew any other songs besides Enter Sandman. She was like what?
+TheApostleofRock I know too many people like that 😂
the main ones in clothing shops now is (the average store) guns n roses, nirvana, pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, led zeppelin, Metallica, rolling Stones, you get joy division every now and then.
Pedro Marto Slayer are Christians...lmao...Tom Araya is a hardcore Christian.
I said once that Slayer themselves are posers. I have been almost eaten alive...
Posers are fucking people that acting like they are metalhead even they dont so that bs if someone said that
People who spit on everything that is not metal are biggest posers of all.
Yh but when a kanye west fan says that metal is shit you might aswell slap the fuck out of him
afuckingmen. I love outlaw country (True outlaw country) and NeoFolk music
+Chad Atwood Check out Rebel Meets Rebel, Pride & Glory, Hank Williams III, and Slaughter of the Bluegrass. All country metal hybrids
+Chad Atwood
Yeah, I absolutely love outlaw country, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson...
One of the kids at my school said he “doesn’t like Death Metal” after I played him a Metallica song
I see you everywhere for some reason
I definitely see where you're coming from.
like when someone tells me how they're so into metal. yet, when I ask what bands they like, they always mention hard rock and grunge bands. Unless they're new to the genre,That's always mildly annoyed me.
but when they're someone who's the real deal but they like a few core bands on the side, I have no issues with that. it all comes down to if their heart is genuinely in it, and they're not just trying to impress people based on "durr. look how diverse my moozik tayse is. am I impressing anyone yet?"
and imo, and I know someone will take me out of context or send me loads of crap over this, but it's kind of the same way with the word "elitist"
I swear on it, everytime I see someone critique a band like babymetal or some core band, (legit criticisms, not the immature "dey ems pozurs" arguments) they always get lambasted by people screaming "elitist!/you don't like it therefore you're an elitist/hur hur typical elitist"
myself and friends have even been called elitists, just because we can tell some sub genres apart. or just because we like death metal/black metal. I wish I was joking. in some cases, these anti-elitists can come off worse than the elitists themselves.
now I got my little tangent out the way, good vid as always. :)
that's a really good point! I never really thought about it the other way around. Thanks for the input!
+Blackmetal Werewolf (Blackmetalwerewolf) no problem Bro :) keep it brutal \m/
I mean i listen to abba and darkthrone but i still agree with you
I've been called a poser my entire life because I don't dress like a metalhead. You should have seen the looks I got at Progpower. >.
Hi Tara
hey what a surprise seeing you here, my girlfriend is a big fan of yours.
Woah! Tara Babcock posted on this channel!
ughh:/
I also used to have long hair and wear black clothes
But that was 10 years ago.
You don't have to limit yourself to one genre(:
christina miller No, you are not a metalhead, you are just someone who happens to listen to some metal.
@@paulhetrick1759 cupcake you don't get to decide who is a metalhead and who isn't. Your comments pretty much prove you are a elitist. Get over yourself (;
@@InFlamedRecords Your comments pretty much prove you're a poser.
@@paulhetrick1759 only poser is you cupcake (:
@@InFlamedRecords Wait, I thought you kids hated the term poser, now you're using it ????
JB actually said that he wants to make his next album 'more metal'... also there is/will be a hipster store that sells Slayer T-shirts to ppl who only wear that cause few ppl wear it, you know hipsters
Fucking kill me/them (preferably them) pls...
+Helloweeny Gamma-Maiden
How do you know their not into metal?
Ugh!
+Koenig People think Nirvana is a t shirt brand.
"poser" is just a big meme now
Posers: Just because it's in Walmart doesn't mean you should buy it.
+Jordan
Can't they do whatever they want?
Are they telling you what to put on that vest?
Álvaro Bass
No, but they're not in the metal community, and they don't know anything about metal. If you see an Indian family wearing their traditional garb do you go out and buy one, and then stamp your country's flag on it? No. Metal is a musical culture, the same idealogy applies. Now I'm not saying you CANT, but metal fans will likely frown on you if you do.
+Jordan
I understand your point, but you compared a culture to musical taste.
Álvaro Bass
A culture involves music.
I still enjoy gateway bands, but they're far from being my favorites.
and also theres also a reason why they are popular
yea I don't think people call other people posers outside of high school
It's ok as a beginner but not to only have patches of popular bands or T shirts: everyone can wear a Metallica, AC/DC, Slipknot shirt etc just because it's trendy and thinks that those bands are the best thing ever! I like when people wear bands that not everyone knows at first sight like idk, a Deathcore band (honestly, how many even would know of Suicide Silence or Lorna Shore and those are popular in Deathcore), stuff like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel (Death Metal) or even Punk Rock (Rancid, Bad Brains)...
Now I'm not trying to gatekeep, I absolutely hate but my point is, everyone will reconise Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, AC/DC, Slipknot, Guns n Roses etc and when confronted you will see who is a fan and who got it just cuz it looked cool, that's the only form of gatekeeping I can accept, confronting others who have no idea what they have on a shirt or as a merch even if yea, some might say, it's his/her product and nobody has any right to question it
Not Metal related but I have that issue with "fans" who wear Nirvana shirts and only know Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are and Lithium or wear Guns N' Roses shirts and only know Sweet Child O' Mine and Welcome To The Jungle
could that be, because at one time those were the only Nirvana& GNR videos that were shown on MTV?
Andraste Reminiec no excuse it's 2017. We have the internet for fucks sake. Its not like these kids can't look the shit up.
Yeah man i once saw a dude in my school with a nirvana shirt and i told him "hey dude cool shirt, whats your favorite song?" And he looked at me in a very confused and kind of condescending way and i awkwardly walked away hahaha funckin posers that wear the culture as a fashion piece
This girl in my class was wearing a gnr shirt I said "What's your favorite guns n roses shirt"? And she said "I thought it was a show"
Kane Oakley i mean, I get it, but if you really think about it, at some point you were probably that person who only knew a few songs, but it’s actually really cool that they know and like some songs so if it really bothers you, you can show them bleach or incesticide and try to expand their interest. Lmao I remember I used to be that person that only listed to the few songs on nevermind and some in utero, but now I know more than Id ever thought I would. For example, I like a few Guns N’ Roses songs (like the ones you mentioned) but I’m not such a hardcore fan (recommending some is the cool part)
The part that really bothers me is when they don’t even know one fucking song or think it’s some sort of clothing line
That’s funny
I got called a poser because I suggested a band to a guy that was metalcore, and he called them emo. Then he called me a poser because I listen to slipknot, and he also says new bands suck, but then I said well how would you know if this one sucks if you don't try them. Later on I made fun of grindcore just like he made fun of some of the stuff I listen to, and he got mad. I dident even get mad when he was saying this shit to me, I just kept it civil, because it really dident bother me too much. But just a perfect example of an idiot who is closed minded who can dish shit out but can't take it.
+Freyja11331ify grindcore is heavy metal genre heavily influenced by punk
+Freyja11331ify yelling random stuff
Don't feel ashamed to like Metalcore! I'm mainly into Thrash but I do enjoy listening to the likes of Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine too, even though they both have kind of left the Metalcore stage and are just regular heavy metal now!
+mynameisdudge I'm not, I don't really care that much about how people hate metalcore. I'm still gonna love my converge.
Dudge poser.
Someone called me "a poser" for liking death metal, wtf ಠ_ಠ
Jokes aside, when he told you his shirt was already faded you should have said "yeah but some of us own more than one piece of clothing".
ha ha right! that would have been a slick comeback Filipe Amaral
Haha "brutal heavy metal"
Do you own any shirts with sleeves 😂
sleeveless is metal
gauntlets are also metal, though i reckon you wouldnt really want to wear them in a mosh pit.
In one of his videos he's wearing one but I forgot which vid it was.
Ronoc Nosduh I found the video, it's metal jobs, he wears a shirt with sleeves.
Sleeves are for posers
100 percent agreed with you. I mean shit. I love metal and will always prefer it but if I want to hear something a bit different....so what?
here in B.C. there is an abundence of emo kids who buy slayer shirts and metallica shirts from hot topic. i sometimes ask "hey you like slayer? whats your favourite song?" and they reply: "who? Black Veil Brides and Peirce the veil rule. theyre like extreme death metal" that is what the common poser in my area tends to be like
God I hate that. They say "Slayer" and since it's like cool to say Slay on twitter and such they think it's just a graphic tee that says Slay.
+GrayWoIf yes exactly. at H&M they actually sell Slayer and Metallica shirts. but the slayer shirts are like plain white with the logo in black so i see preppy kids who think it means "slay" buy those shirts and its really annoying.
I kinda hate how people say BVB and PTV are so "extreme" or so "hardcore", just makes the fans of the bands look bad.
"Black veil bribes " and "peirce the veil rules "
Extreme death metal ??????
Those two bands are not death metal there metal core
Evnoiia what's wrong with Slipknot?
Biblical Adrian elitists like to hate on the mainstream bands without any good reason
Biblical Adrian because they're very generic and cheesy.
Jude fake story
and everyone clapped
Uurgh there's SO much of this in the Goth community too
+CJ LadyGroove Even though I'm ignorant on the subculture, it's my understanding that Goths listen to Gothic music.
Am I correct or is there more to it than that?"
Oh boy, did you ever ask a complex question.
That's fucking true man. The word poser shouldn't be used unless someone is literally pretending to like it like you said
You post a lot of good stuff, all well thought-out points.
I will listen to slayer and then listen to slipknot
I will listen to any type of metal or grunge.
Maybe your friend was really worried about being labeled a racist. That is odd altogether, though.
i stopped listening after howard left because i like howards vocals more than jesse's
My friend was black, and that played a lot into to the deciding factor. With him it was always happening.
"Yeah I like metal" -listens to queen-
Dude, I got called a poser on the game Darwin Project for having Metallica in my username. The person asked if I was born in the 80s first the I replied with "No man, I was born in the 90s" the he said "I don't like you because you're not a real metalhead" all because I wasn't born in the 80s like seriously wtf.
I guess all classical music fans are either posers or... vampires. 🤣 Based on the logic above.
You took the words right outta my face again!! Especially with the Guitar Hero analogy with Slayer.
Same dude. I like a little bit if everything from the Beatles and CCR to Korn and Slipknot and everything in between.
Same here too. Just enjoy the music; it's all good. It's our own preference. You may like bands/artists that I may not for one reason or another, and vice-versa.
True. I listen to everything from The beatles and Stone Roses to stuff like Behemoth.
Trevor Turek YES. You are a poser meow!
you're not a poser,my friend..( i'm being nice) you have a well rounded taste in music, that's all
I mostly listen to death metal, deathcore, metalcore, nu-metal, it's my main genres after all, but I also do listen to a couple of hard rock, classical pop, j-pop to visual kei.. Well, I don't care if some of those people call me a poser, for me a change of pace on music once in a while, listening to something different, its really quite refreshing and relaxing..
All in all I definitely get your point here so very well said man..
God I miss that Ontario accent. ;)
Yeah there bud, got a bit of the valley accent eh
+Blackmetal Werewolf (Blackmetalwerewolf) Oh ya right on there bud, take off n eat a touque eh?!
Heh i din't even notice an accent , then again english isn't my first language.
+Bhaalspawn84 He and i, though we live far apart now, used to live in the same area. and im actually contemplating moving back, very soon.
I just think we should not speak badly of them XD rather enlighten them :,)
I hated that in school nobody like metal in my class but once guitar hero three came out everyone though they knew everything about Metallica and slayer ect.
"Oh you like metalcore and punk? Doesn't matter what else you like, you can't be a metalhead!"
ffs, I wish people would just stop -_-
If you like punk and metalcore you are a PUNK and hardcore fan. you are not a metal fan.
You are being exactly the kind of person I was talking about
Hannah Hendrickson
No I'm not.
For example, someone can like both shooter games and RPGs, liking shooters doesn't mean that that person isn't a fan of RPGs as well
Hannah Hendrickson metalcore is a fusion of metal and hardcore so it’s not a fully metal genre, so yes you’re more of a punk fan not a metalhead
HEY MAN. DONT KNOCK GUITAR HERO MAN. THAT SHIT WAS MY LIFE MAN!!
Ashley Nihil i 100% agree
Ashley Nyal. Bitch learn the real deal or stay a poser. Your choice.
PLEASE KEEP MAKING VIDEOS,this is my favorite channel,I really hope you keep up the great videos, much love bro \m/
poser to the metal culture is like stolen valor for the military.
I agree with this so much. It's funny you even made this because just the other day I was talking to a friend about this exact topic.
well said dude :)
Poseur is litterary anyone dressing up and not paying attention to the music. They pose.
People always call me emo. UGH
A Dying Raven maybe because of your hair
I agree^ probably your hair and then also the favorite song playlist on your channel has alot of black veil brides *vomits* and panic at the disco which are both very popular in the emo community
Same
I totally agree. Part of me feels like the people who go around calling anyone a poser are just super insecure about themselves and the metal they're listening to. Other people liking other subgenres or other bands shouldn't be threatening.
Title should be: Rant by a poser in denial.
If you don't like Slayer, you ARE a poser. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Share Noble dam right Slayer is one of the greatest/metal bands ever
I get your point
(this might trigger some)
There are lots of metal heads who really really hates core bands and screamo. For me I think like what you said.. We are all in one circle. We should just instead be cool with each other rather than trashing one another.
What about the scene kids who claim mcr is metal
Hayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy >:P
Or the people who call FOB and Paramore emo
Pretty sure no one has ever called mcr metal.
People have actually said thay ??? Wtf is wrong with people.
I'm gonna keep on posing and discovering metal. Not afraid to admit if I'm not in the mood for metal I'll put on something lighter like Tokyo or some melodic rock etc. Actually I find listening to lighter stuff then going back to the metal makes metal even easier to appreciate. Good video. Thanks.
Why is slipknot not real metal anyway?
Play Boy Because they are alternative.
Nu-metal*
Astrid Danks Yt/girlytomboy1backup Nu "metal" = NOT metal
Pansy XX I don't respect it at all, it should be called nu alternative or nu rock, because it ain't metal.
Pansy XX Yes, they are rock.
I like early Kiss and some glam rock. And I'm HUGE into classic rock like Rainbow, Deep Purple, Rush, Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult, ect...
I still listen to plenty of metal, but I fluctuate between different stuff depending on my mood.
The Guitar Hero example was great
The guitar hero thing is so true.
My favourite genre is metal (on a whole, im jot gonma go into subgenres) , ive loved it for years and it sucks to be called a poser.
can't wait for warped tour tomorrow
keep up the good work blackmetalwerewolf
I hate that word “poser” I don’t use that word unless I’m talking about the word itself
This is definitely true about metalhead which is really annoying so close-minded I'm glad you spoke about poser insult it drives me up the wall.
Blackmetal Werewolf
what is your take on the band baby metal
Great video and great points. Are you doing a Q&A or anything like that soon?
i have always jokingly called myself a poser. i recognize i still have so much to learn and to listen to. also, like many other people in the comments, i am just a music lover!
When the world rids itself of judgement, then it will know peace.
Well said man. Iv seen that word get thrown around a lot myself and it's like you said.
