- Foiling and the adventure it offers is my favorite sport, on or off the water, because it's a whole new world! Foils are an entirely different feeling because they are one of the few things in the world where we get to ride a wing rather than a board. Dating back to the 1800's, foils go farther back in history than I ever considered! In my opinion, foils are the fastest growing watersport worldwide, and the technology is advancing even faster. But they started somewhere, so when I ran into my good friend Mike Murphy at a boat show and we both agreed that we needed to meet up and chat about some foil history. Tony Klarich's Florida house was the meeting point and the watersports gear and foils started coming out as well as the stories. The rest is history!

Absolutely loved these videos, like you Shaun, I grew up watching guys hot dog skiing, riding air chairs, and watching videos like “hot rockin feet” being from SK Canada going to Cypress Gardens in 1988 and watching the show, I was in love with water sports. Watching my Dad well into his mid 40’s barefoot with the handle in his mouth, and myself now being in my mid 40’s I understand how these sports keep us young, amazing to see older guys still rippin it, and still pushing their limits. ❤
Stayin on the water is one of the best ways to stay young!

Hi Shaun, I'm sure that you have heard it many times before, but I used to fly with your dad on the 727. You were always a topic of discussion and the photos in his "brag book" of you were epic! And yeah, I might have even played your video game...Old school, indeed.

That is awesome I remember seeing one for the first time at Castaic Lake back in the late 80s. I was telling my dad that guy is sitting down and strapped to a ski. Craziest thing I ever saw and I believe Skurfing was wakeboarding back then. I also loved kneeboarding back then too. 👍
Castaic! Been there as well. Skurfed on Shasta for the first time at 11 years old.

Good stuff I love the old-school stuff. I love the hair on the older gentleman. He is Still living the dream. Too bad you and I will never have that dream. Lol not a huge fan of the foil. I had one of the Fliteboard‘s for a while. it’s fun, but I prefer to be strapped in standing sideways until I die lol.
So cool, I remember seeing the air chair in the mid nineties and thinking WTF, and to think where that lead to today’s hydrofoil’s is pretty cool. 🤘🤘Thanks Shaun for the history lesson.

I just picked up a vintage ‘98 AirChair a few weeks ago. It is soooo fun. Only wish I would have gotten one years ago! This was cool to learn the history!

The Air Chair was so epic in the early 90’s. It was futuristic with an element of mystery and completely different than anything in water sports. I wanted one sooooo bad but the price was insane. Thanks Shaun for the trip down memory lane. What’s next? Slalom tips by Carl Roberge?!
