  • Yes, I documented the whole experience (well not the whole thing) of what it's like to prep for a colonoscopy. This life saving procedure is one of the most important things you can do! Yeah, you have to drink a really gross beverage, but it could save your life!

I had one last year and they discovered I had cancer. I'm cancer-free now, but I encourage everyone to get it as soon as you can. I was younger than when people usually get it. I've had to drink that thing a couple of times this year because of my treatment. I recommend everyone use a straw when they have it. Less chance that you get it to coat your tongue. It's not so bad in the beginning, but by the end of your time drinking it, it gets really old. I was like you, I stood up for drinking the thing. It just helped me. The doctor who did my colonoscopy flat out told me that I had cancer after I woke up because it was a huge mass. Might not have been the bedside manners, but I appreciated the honesty. My sister drove me to get my colonoscopy. She was deciding what we were going to eat for lunch after I was finished. When I got in the car, my sister told me there was a Hawaiian place that looked like they had good Korean wings when I told her that I had cancer. It was kinda surreal. I had an endoscopy about a year before and they told me I should get a colonoscopy, but I put it off because I was going on a big trip. They gave me a picture of my tumor when I was done. I had surgery to remove the mass a month later and then I had chemo after that. Thanks so much for the video! And I agree, colonoscopies are not that bad, when the alternative is cancer that is not caught until it is too late. I love all your Disney videos and I'm so glad I can go back to the parks now.

As someone with Crohn's Disease in my 20s and have been through 6 colonoscopies in my life, thank you for being so proactive with your health! It is so so important to get these done! I appreciate you documenting it and showing what its like. Its NO FUN but super beneficial. No matter how many times I've had to do one, the prep is the worst part lol. But best sleep of your life afterwards! Thank you Max for sharing the importance of this proceedure even if the prep is no fun lol!

I'm SO GLAD I don't have to do this! Us Vegans are at a significantly lowered risk of all forms of cancer. Even if we choose to have a colonoscopy done or a colon cleansing, detoxing and flushing out our bodies doesn't require us to drink the prep solution (which contains whey protein anyhow which is what forces the bathroom action). Apart from getting an enema which is also not necessary, All Vegans have to do is drink fruit and vegetable juices and tons of water for 24 hours prior to the appointment (which really we Vegans don't need to have regardless). But anyways, Cheers to you for doing YOU!

Good job, Max! I survived drinking the prep by keeping a green jolly rancher in my mouth, took a few sips of prep then I took out the candy and drank a couple sips of water. Hard candies (not blue or red) are allowed as part of prep and it helped to just overwhelm the taste buds.

The smell to this day 🤢 so the next morning… when I took the last solution bottle. An hour later it all came back up, same way it went down. To the point I was dry heaving. I had mine not long ago. Apple juice helped a lot for me. The stuff I had to drink was called Gavilyte, and you have to drink more than a gallon of it in a short period of time. I would take a sip of apple juice, down a cup of the stuff, then take another sip of apple juice after, and it really helped with the bad taste. Except for the IV, the actual procedure was completely painless - they put me under, and when I woke up it was all done. I was still a bundle of nerves though.

If you’re reading this and getting a colonoscopy- opt for miralax with gatorade if you can!! I was prescribed su prep but after researching, i called my doctor and asked if i could do miralax and they said no problem. (use a straw for ease in getting down!) Ended up being clear as could be with no issues during procedure. Prep was nothing like i thought it was gonna be. I strongly believe this is because of the prep i chose. It was very gentle and no pain, cramping, or nausea at all. Just very time consuming having to sit there all night! And morning appointment is best so you don’t have to starve yourself more than necessary. The hardest part for me was not eating for so long, but once 12 hours passed, i think my body started to use other sources for energy and the hunger subsided. If you can take the day off during prep, do it so that you can nap through the hunger! Propofol was used during procedure and it really was a nice nap. No drowsiness after at all! Meal after was the best thing i’ve ever tasted. 👍🏻

Unfortunately I'm having my second next month. It's not the procedure I mind, it's the prep!
