The unfortunate reason being a lot of PCs of that era didn't have hardware scrolling capabilities, since most of them were made as business PCs in mind (especially Japan and their reliance to high-res display to properly display Kana/Kanji characters). My biggest problem with the OG Mario special on PC was the lack of screen scroll
The unfortunate reason being a lot of PCs of that era didn't have hardware scrolling capabilities, since most of them were made as business PCs in mind (especially Japan and their reliance to high-res display to properly display Kana/Kanji characters).
C64 is one of the few PC to have hardware scrolling, but that's due to C64's more focus to gaming compared to other PCs.
@@ZX3000GT1 It's kind of wild to realize that it was a huge technical breakthrough when Apogee made smooth scrolling on PC a reality.
I love Rom Hack Wednesdays. And props for creating 99% friendly content me and me 10/6 year old nephews can watch. They love Mario and Mario Maker but so many RUclipsrs curse so often 😂
The original SMB Special didn't have any warp zones.
It that a place that should've been one in 4-2, but it softlocks you. Mario Crossover turned it into a special room. No clue what it does in this version.
The intro music is ruclips.net/video/uCRB5N8LQN4/видео.html (Creative Exercise from Mario Paint), in case you were still needing it for the description
congrats you read the description. I was about to writing it and you pace me.
I've completed 3-4 with the hammer strat and 245 left on the in game timer. Put me down as the world record holder until you can best it.
so I've heard from this channel that only 1-1 has no Parana's in SMB1, and also been shown that only 1 powerup can be on screen at the time, so did they like change a lot of the code in SMB1 to make in be as close to SMBS as possible? cuz that's so cool
Yeah, the kind of Super Mario Bros everyone always forgets about.
they probably had to do a massive object refactor, there's trees and bill blasters in the same level
Before Mario Maker, you also had the icicles in the old Mario Bros arcade game... I can't remember if it was in all versions, if it was in the Super Mario All-Stars vs. mode one, but it was definitely in one of them -- I think one I used to play on my old Apple II
I remember that whole arena freezing over, and I *think* it had the falling icicles. Definitely had icicles anyway.
Right I wondered later if maybe they came from there. I know the freezie guy is there and freezes platforms
Man, this game has some fun level ideas
Honestly, if these are legit recreations of SMB Special using the SMB engine, the problem with that game at least wasn't level design
i just realized that this is the basis for the special levels in super mario bros crossover
That game knew Kaizo blocks and Trolls before they were ever a thing in games.
The bee in the special is a hidden item that gives 8000pts!
I feel bad I was expecting mario to be in a wheelchair or something
4:41 That comment about id software in the chat is funny
