I used to steal my father's Chetak and along the way it used to die. Then, I, like every uncle, used to tilt it for petrol to come to the carb. What an experience was it when we did not need to wheelie as it used to do it on its own even on the stand.😅

i already have purchased the ola s1 pro gen 2 but i keep coming back because your content is addicting. It would be great if you would do a review on the s1 pro gen 2 as there have been huge changes and the overhaul is massive so worth giving it another go. Also im 18 so dont have the years of experience nor have i tried as many scooters, so it would be great if you could shed some light on the driving dynamics of the scooter.
Amazing content as usual, look forward for more

I think no other 2 wheeler was as all metal as chetak. In later models the nose was plastic, but the weight of the scooter made it grounded like no other. Hamara Bajaj was the most successful ad line till date. 😊

My dad had a Chetak 12v 1988 built. He bought it when he started his first job. The scooter had a little aftermarket seat that he got for me. My own little seat. He made space for me on that sooter. He took me to school on it. I remember being 5 years old and playing in our rented home when the neighbors kid pushed me down in the driveway and i whacked my head, i dont remember being hurt. I do remember seeing him pull up, see me, get off that scooter in one slick move, pick me up, mount back on that scooter and take me to the doctor. He taught me to be brave while telling me all those great stories. He took mom out on little dates, me in tow later on with that little seat. His moustache always sharp. His reflexes panther like. I heard once that a cat hissed at my mom and my dad actually grabbed it by the scruff before the cat could register what happened to it.
We eventually got a car, dad got promoted, was allocated a car by the office. The Chetak eventually had to be scrapped.
Last year when I was buying a bike, me at 32 took my father along.... for advice. We went to a KTM showroom. I was looking around talking to the sales people and then i noticed, my father looking over a blue chetak EV. He is a practical man. I think i caught the smallest look of loving effection in his eye.
We got out and drove off in my car. His moustache has remained sharp. Our family grew up.. and chetak made space for us. The thing is Chetak was the perfect work horse for our family. It served us, did more than it was designed to, got us out a tight spots, ran faster than it was supposed to and was there during our biggest struggles. It got my dad through a lot. Through all his battles.
Reminds me of a Rana and a horse named Chetak.
One is not complete without the other. Whether Chetak made Rana or Rana made Chetak, im not wise enough to know.
    The lore however lives on.
    - to Fathers

I'm riding Chetak for almost a year on the same Pune's roads, and the overall experience is so calm, soft and comfortable as Shumi said. The simple detailing which (Bajaj) Chetak has achieved is really commendable and enhances the experience of riding the scooter. While riding it sets you in a different zone unless you're not riding in Hinjewadi traffic 🥲.
Overall Chetak is like a good boy in the family that listens to everyone !

FYI for a cold start , the Chetak had to be tilted in order to trickle the fuel back to the engine . This was because of the eccentric placement of the engine of the Chetak, and the tank in the centre , the fuel supply used to get cut off once parked.

Once a group of Scientists in Chandigarh was readying a Rocket 🚀 Launch. Even after the countdown 0, the Rocket didn’t fire. Everyone tried level best but the Rocket won’t start. The whole scene was being watched by a Sardarji astride his favourite Chetak. After all the efforts in vain, the Sardarji approached & said the golden words….. O Thoda Tedha karke Vekh lete, & the Scientists tilted the rocket on the right side 45 degrees then upright, fired & it soared high😂

The 100km range being the Golden Sweet Spot is correct, but the way I look at it is that the vehicle should be capable of 100km range after 4 years (consider the battery degradation) and based on that a new EV True Range to be determined

  • @virajvrooms
    @virajvrooms 11 месяцев назад +7

Yeah correct. The Chetak had an IMU decades ago when the Indians weren't really health conscious. The handlebars had sensors that detected your strength levels based on which it modulated the amount of fuel to be pumped on first start. This clubbed with lean angle sensors determined how much you need to tilt the vehicle for a kick start and build your muscles. Too bad we didn't have smart phones then to track our progress 😂 The new chetak has implemented this as an Easter egg. Do try!

    Hi
I have owned a Chetak for past 19months. There is a lot of major problems.
    1. The remote control key. Once u start the scooter and take remote away from it the scooter still runs till u switch it off.
    2. Chetak has two batteries. One for running the motors and other for electronics. The other battery is a small one and has no control sensors for it. I recently had an issue related to it. I started the scooter with 95% charge and had ridden it for nearly 25km it had more than 50% Range available and parked it for 3 hrs. and then I tried to start it again it did not turn on and I could not unlock the vehicle also. When I contacted the service person he told me that the small battery is down so the vehicle can not even be moved. If such a critical part of the vehicle is not monitored it means it is badly engineered
Please try to add on the major negatives in the design you had mentioned about suspension good but the above mentioned problems are pretty serious

As owner of 2023 Bajaj Chetak ev , I can say that it's the least complicated ev and very easy to use once you get to use button . The stock mrf tyres are less grippy,so I switched to Michelin city pro , which are good grip in gravel, muddy and wet surfaces . The charging time is under 3 hr considering charging starts at 20 % to full .Its main ups are in city commutes as in low speeds it's handles best ,after 50 I feel all might metal weight. The real range i got is 75- 85 km but my father used to drive below 30 where he gets 90 + km range . There is advantage of metal body as i usually like to ride on the highway at 55-65 km but a strong headwind is something frustrating if tailwind then it's boom . I find onboard charger a very handy and practical approach . I purchased Chetak as my father used to own Bajaj Priya and he misses having an all metal body 2 wheeler.

19:42 , completely share the same view. the scooter should have been packed with more performance specially when it comes to the top speed where the competition is providing 100+ this could have done with just hitting the triple digit mark of 100. I don't know why this issue isn't raised at large, but if this scooter gets a higher top speed, will definately buy it!!. One of the edges of electric scooters over the ice powered ones are there top speeds.

My two cents is...there will be no free lunches...a company and a promotor who makes profits only will survive...rest is just the flavour of the season! VC backed businesses with futuristic profit plans will remain in future only which will never become the present!! Only the ICE guys can succeed at the EV bit too...

The base it targets is those people who need a scooter for small daily city drives, getting kids from school, veggies from store and such, for them a slow but reliable scooter is more important then any features, my parents don't even know how to connect smartphones they would be happy, here we have a acooter which goes to work gives its best 7/10 and comes home ready for next day, he will never give his best but he will always be there, the bajaj having higher trust then say ola and ather (in many peoples mind definitely helps too)

Now, after all these years, Shumi has perfectly described the sound at 31:26, and my deep seated childhood traumas around Math can now be laid to rest.
Also, it's sad that none of the EVs have an iconic tagline like 'Hamara Bajaj'. We don't relate to any of the brands in terms of advertising, jingles or by-lines. For the sake of chargers, advertising from the Mad Men of Bombay is being sacrificed. Sad...

27:34 "The base-base version of Chetak-Chetak should come-come" cracked me up like anything else, talk about Shumi being absolutely goofy and Karti loosing it🤣. Joke aside, despite having a Bajaj showroom nearby, explicitly for Chetak, never thought about that scooter once, let alone consider as a competitor to the front runners until this connect. Not sure if that has to do with Bajaj's sleeper approach of amping up the service network and such. I believe Bajaj could do a little bit more on the advertisement front that will drive the sale of this scooter further as long as they are not doing something on the lines of those RE targeted ads which backfired on them. After watching this connect, I believe this is one scooter I can recommend to my father wholeheartedly to replace his aging Activa as this one will be much more forgiving than an Ather or Ola, on the performance front. Thanks Shumi, Karti and MotorInc team!🤗

    • @motorinc

@@motorinc my research in the NCR last April showed apartment dwellers just throwing down a long wire attached to a 15 amp socket in their apartment down to their electric scooter parked on the open area below. Haven't checked how many got electrocuted during the monsoons. Villa owners were lucky their EV car dealer attached a charging station in their garage.
Point - Urban Architecture in Asia, Latin America (Ola Senors! ) and Africa hasn't caught up with Greta and her Davosiyas. So where will India's 250 EV brands export to. for the break-even volumes they need to survive? Sweden?

I apologise for my first comment to be a correction. Let me start off by saying that I have followed both of the hosts across their careers for a few years now, and by and large I have found them to be highly knowledgeable and technically sound. I have learned a lot from them as well.
But I must point out that the full throttle duty cycle of an F1 car is most definitely not 13-14 %.
At a track like Monza they would be on full throttle roughly 80% of the time, and it might go down as much as 35% for places like Monaco.
