So lets say his Live View is showing an ISO of 100, the AF could be seeing the it at ISO 12800 to find the eye.

@@anthonyc1883 Its not a my dad thing, when we tout as being revolutionary when its just copy-catted, its an issue. Having an A7r4 in my case, I expect more, not just a copy cat of the competitor. When we tout it as revolutionary, its not, its industry standard with brick ergonomics and a menu that makes you scratch your head. Unlike most, I had this camera in my hands for 15 minutes with a GM 85mm. Not impressed. My r5's blow it away. Im sorry if that hurts

Although I'm not sure what Manny is talking about when he says you need to hold down the button 🤷♂️ i have a a7III and i just press the custom button I assigned it to and it toggles on and off. I also wouldn't call it a hack since it's built in to the system menu.
I would have killed for silent mode during a lot of my church weddings. Well, let me rephrase that. The videographers would have killed for me to have silent mode at a lot of my church weddings. Sorry guys.

@Manny Ortiz Ambient light preview with a flash attached on the R5 and R6 is 2 button presses. Hit [AF point selection button] then hit [Set] and it will go from simulated exposure to ambient. Hit the shutter button and it will display the simulated again.

In my Nikon Z6, i set the Joystick middle press to exposure preview. So when i connect a trigger and i need to check the ambient exposure, i just press the Joystick button and it shows the original exposure. I use a ad400 pro and likes to make the background way darker then real so it helps.
Because the camera isn't actually seeing it in the black. The ISO is being pumped up so the eye AF can find the eye but the live view is not showing that, the live view is showing you what your exposure is.

If you want speed, use your smartphone camera. This doesn't even come close to Fuji mediums in terms of photos, let alone a Hassy. Veyron? More like DC Avanti😂
Your overheating test was done with the auto shutdown temp set to standard. If you set it to high it can record over an hour straight in 8k and will essentially never overheat in 4k.
@@DreamReleases Considering the camera will still "overheat" and shutdown even with the auto shutdown temp set to high I think it's fine. Sony also says it's perfectly fine and safe with the only caveat being that it will get hot to the touch externally. I'll trust Sony over people making baseless statements on the internet.
@@MADagain Everyone universally was asking for a flip out display? I think not, lots of people prefer a tilting display because it remains in line with the lens and keeps a smaller footprint.
I just wanted to add something to what Manny said about the faster flash sync speed. When shooting with HHS flash where the flash has to illuminate the whole sensor as the shutter slit scams over the sensor at all speeds above the flash sync speed this camera will multiply your usable light power form your HSS strome by one full stop. this means if you needed a 2,000 w/s pack now you can do the same thing with half the power. This alone can pay for the difference in price of an a1 vs a Canon r5 if you need to budget for HSS for shooting outdoor at high shutter speeds or in studio at high speeds.
I’m sure you can turn on live preview for ambient with flash. I can do it with my Fuji XT2, and I’m sure I did it with the A7iii a few times. Maybe it only works when using the EVF and not the LCD
Are you going to do snow test shots with it? I love the snow photos you've done with your wife and I learned several tricks. Also, forget about the outro Manny, I personally love it's simplicity. Your content is already instant K.O.

Hi Manny not sure if I understood you correctly on applying settings to live view, but both the z6 and z7 ii can provide the same. Go to d - shooting and display, then d9 - apply setting to live view and then toggle on or off. You can assign this to the I menu or even to one of of the user presets.
You can change the settings on the A7III as well for when you add a flash to stop it going brighter etc or assign a custom button to view your ambient if you prefer the brighter scene
Thanks for the tip with the flash settings and how to set it to show the ambient exposure. I shoot outdoors with flash all the time, so this is huge for me.

Autofocus weird glitches where it focuses on background and not foreground High noise levels even at low ISO, in lowlight I had very noticeable noise even at ISO400 High battery consumption, much higher than A9/A9ii Eye autofocus often front focuses onto the nose When used in sun I had camera completely block many times, requiring battery to be taken out. IBIS issue where IBIS is switched off under certain conditions

I was asked to cover a wedding at late notice on new years. I was so confused as to why my flash photography was all over the place. Literally you said it in a nutshell "turn off flash, set ambient light, turn flash back on and control flash power output" What i did was turned flash on, set ambient, took photo, changed flash power output and got crazy terrible results. I'll forever remember your advice. Also own the A73 and that custom button also a handy hack. Thanks 😊
The camera looks great. Also for Nikon you can map flash to function button and have it so when you hold in the function button it operates the flash and when you let go it returns to live view for your ambient light. Works with both off camera and on camera flash.
That live preview hack on the A7III needs to be talked about more. When I first got into flash that was super confusing. Glad to see sony listens and is solving that issue. Hopefully that feature trickles down from this body to the a74 when it comes out. 🤞
wow, that's one helluva camera!. I guess it does what you'd expect a $6500 camera to do. There's nothing that I do that would justify spending that kind of cash. 50MP is more than I will ever need. Manny the problem is that if you are see only the ambient light in cases like backlight or harsh sun, you can miss details like what face your client is doing for example smile, bad posture etc because they face are in shadow, not all people shoot pro models, i need to control and see what my client is doing before take a photo.
This is a good camera... it’s an all around so a good balance for videographers and photographers... so if you’re someone that works between both fields, this would be a good camera... but at about 7k lol I’m getting a cinematic camera 😂 (canon c100mkii, canon c200, or even one of Sony’s cinematic line cameras). I love Sony! They do a good job of separating (blogger/vlogger cameras, photographer cameras, and videography cameras, and cinematic cameras). It almost makes you feel like your going down a rabbit hole of which one to purchase. To be honest, all of Sony’s cameras are very similar, and the average person will never use all the functions on many of the high line price cameras. Grow as you go with there mirrorless line, and identify what medium you are using. A Sony a6000 still is very strong, and so is a Sony a7iii. Now if you have the money go crazy, but it’s subjective.
Exposure live preview with flash has been in the Fuji XT3 for the longest time already, so the A1 is not the first camera. As for 30fps, you guessed it Fuji XT3.
I shoot an older Fuji xt20 that allows me to preview exposure with flash connected. Blew my mind to find out that most those higher end cameras don’t allow exposure preview.

Great video Manny! In regards to the ambient light issue, I simply just turn the flash trigger off and then I see my ambient light. Not sure if I'm missing something but this seems to be the solution already. Either way this camera looks amazing, I'd say the banding solution is the best unique feature it has and can make shooting weddings and events a lot less problematic.
Yes that’s the way we all have been doing it but that’s not the way it should have to be done. Now you don’t have to do that anymore. I did talk about that in the video lol

You could use the electronic shutter to shoot the rotolight in flash mode and keep up since it’s led no recycle time. Would be cool to see if it keeps up at 30fps while flashing.
Manny, how is high ISO performance? One of my favorite lenses is the 100mm STF GM. With a f stop of 2.8 but an effective T stop of 5.6 it has never been something to use in low light without a flash or strobe. I'm wondering how it would perform on the a1.
Manny, mechanical shutter has a bad shake on a7RIV under 1/250 and you can pretty much see it on every third photo, so if you shoot under 1/1000 always go for first curtain sync. Plus it's more responsive. I almost sold my camera a7RIV, when I used your recommended settings as I shoot 99% of the time in lower shutter speeds. I wanted to blame 61 MP, but in fact was wrong setting that made it problematic. You don't notice bokeh difference under 1/1000... why I am writing you this as I hear you have you camera set that way, that's why you like your a1's shutter more.
I feel you on that screen going bright when recognizing a flash, I always end up turning the flash off to control the ambient light then turn the flash back on
The Sony A7sIII also has the ability to ignore the flash in the viewer. It took me a week to figure that out. It must be part of the new menu system software. I am using it for some real estate photography but will also be getting the A1.

There is a big difference between what the LCD live view is showing and what the AF is seeing. You can also see the Canon is finding the eye too.

The EOS R lets you change the settings for exposure on the back screen with a flash. I use it all the time.

Manny, yes you can on the R5. It default initially for focus and brightens the screen and then changes to ambient!

Silent shutter is the best.. I use it at at church photography and at weddings during the ceremony
At 9:00 isn't banding with electronic shutter typically from fluorescent lighting? Do you have fluorescent lighting on in the studio?

Amazing video Mate! Outstanding camera!
I shoot an older Fuji xt20 that allows me to preview exposure with flash connected. Blew my mind to find out that most those higher end cameras don’t allow exposure preview.

Great video Manny! In regards to the ambient light issue, I simply just turn the flash trigger off and then I see my ambient light. Not sure if I'm missing something but this seems to be the solution already. Either way this camera looks amazing, I'd say the banding solution is the best unique feature it has and can make shooting weddings and events a lot less problematic.
Yes that’s the way we all have been doing it but that’s not the way it should have to be done. Now you don’t have to do that anymore. I did talk about that in the video lol

@@nathanmoore7120 Best Manny was busting his nut over every single thing that Sony put in the video and Jared was being more realistic that this camera is awesome, but not that much better than an r5 and was questioning some of the information Sony wasn't disclosing.
@@nathanmoore7120 you could visibly see Manny getting annoyed at how Jared was practically pissing on every camera feature the video was going through. At one point Jared said something like, "Manny mute the video. *Manny ignores the comment* Manny mute it. These people are watching this live video to know about our reaction. They don't care about whatever this montage is saying." (Non verbatim) Somewhere in there Manny also shushes Jared and says he's just trying to enjoy the announcement.
Don't get me wrong, Jared is okay. I also watch his videos, especially when I am looking for reasons not to buy something. But their collab reaction video was painful to watch.
You could use the electronic shutter to shoot the rotolight in flash mode and keep up since it’s led no recycle time. Would be cool to see if it keeps up at 30fps while flashing.

I never had the live view issue but I always use manual flash with a canon trigger on the sony, so I guess it never recognized it as a flash.
Although 800 fps is the slowest sync on my medium format cameras i'd love a 400 sync on my Nikons...

Great Review ! BTW you can set a c. butoon to toggle live view on/off, on older Sony cameras to, don't need to hold.

Manny, how is high ISO performance? One of my favorite lenses is the 100mm STF GM. With a f stop of 2.8 but an effective T stop of 5.6 it has never been something to use in low light without a flash or strobe. I'm wondering how it would perform on the a1.

Manny, mechanical shutter has a bad shake on a7RIV under 1/250 and you can pretty much see it on every third photo, so if you shoot under 1/1000 always go for first curtain sync. Plus it's more responsive. I almost sold my camera a7RIV, when I used your recommended settings as I shoot 99% of the time in lower shutter speeds. I wanted to blame 61 MP, but in fact was wrong setting that made it problematic. You don't notice bokeh difference under 1/1000... why I am writing you this as I hear you have you camera set that way, that's why you like your a1's shutter more.

I feel you on that screen going bright when recognizing a flash, I always end up turning the flash off to control the ambient light then turn the flash back on

The Sony A7sIII also has the ability to ignore the flash in the viewer. It took me a week to figure that out. It must be part of the new menu system software. I am using it for some real estate photography but will also be getting the A1.
