Me, who does zero color correction, "Ah yes, just as I thought the Sony image was on the left."
hahaha this got me
With same money, you can buy A7III and hire a colorist
@@ElfTaleFilms So true 😂😂
@@ElfTaleFilms yeah and wait hours for render if you can have it right now.
@@ElfTaleFilms How can you comment so nonse? And you think this colorist can convert your shitty 8-Bit A7III footage into 10-Bit? Oh youtube I love you!
Curious to see what the Sony A1 vs RED Komodo looks like 🤔
Love your videos man! Glad to see you on here
Yes please!
They are same 8k, but RED is a better 8k. Same with Samsung S21 ultra and iPhone 12 pro max camera, they have 4k, but on Samsung S21 ultra, the 4k is much better. But the smoothness of iPhone camera is the King to me.
Way more filmic/organic image quality than the Sony. Sony footage (except for the FX9 and Venice) look like a juiced up iPhone
@@malvinolimit ive used both and the iphone 12 somehow looks way better to me, mostly the photos on the 12
The a1 is less likely to overheat in 8k when you tilt the screen out.
And he didn’t even mention increasing the overheating limit through the menus
He had only oneday with it
And they need to change the heat limite to high to
@@josephyang3260 😂😂🤣
Pretty big omission lmao
Dude, the way you walked step by step through the color science analysis was so, so very helpful. I could feel myself getting smarter as I was watching this video. Thank you!
I personally think you could justify it even more. I think it's three cameras in one. It has the video of the A7S series The high megapixel count of the A7R series and the super fast speed of the a9 series. It's literally a jack of all trades and a master of all of them lol
A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times much better than one. The A1 is definitely a fantastic camera.
Two things for the overheating, first is lift up and tilt out the screen and it will significantly help with the overheating, second is that there is an extended overheating mode that increases the limit before the camera overheats. Been using the increased limits on my Sony cameras for years, and still haven’t had a problem
We forgive the misinformation on overheating due to your unfamiliarity with Sony cameras. Plenty of reviewers have tested it to bits and had a hard time overheating it by doing one simple menu change. There is a setting called “Auto Power Off Temp”, its default is standard, set that to HIGH and enjoy unlimited 8K recording as long as you have power and card space. Tested extensively by all other sony creators (Gerald Undone, Potato Jet, Phillip Bloom). The menu setting is located on the Briefcase icon, page 8, power settings.
perhaps you should be mindful of your sources, primarily Sony creators can be biased, and at times even rely on not being too harsh to continue getting access to free loaner bodies and previews
“I prefer the image on the right (Sony)” - Jake
I’m quoting this forever.
My heart says yes, my brain says no.
"Listen to your heart..."
My wallet says "why do you keep doing this to me"
Listen to your wallet
Getting the battery grip to avoid overheating is a good pro-tip. Thank you for sharing!
Ok Sony needs to chill with the cameras, I feel like I'm tempted to buy a new sony cam every week
bro... I feel the exact same.
Buy buy buy buy!
You get the point🤣
Great Video! Extend out the screen on the back and it won't over heat, that allows for better air flow. Also it won't overheat with an external power supply or when using a 'Sony Vertical Battery Grip,' even with the screen fully closed.
thanks a lot man you made my day with this video!!!
Great vid, keep it up 💥
Cant wait to receive mine!!! Amazing review my friend! You should do more of this reviews!
If the Canon was set on Cinema EOS Original color matrix instead of Neutral, in the log settings, that could explain the difference between canon and sony. Cinema EOS Original, at least on my Eos R, makes my log footage look more yellow, and mutes some red tones.
for me on the color quiz i already prefer the right one from the jacket alone, skin is close enough but the jacket is way more natural looking on the right.
18:41 This moment when I get a commercial for something I already have haha
Hi there Jake - I am starting out with one of Sony’s professional cameras, they are really good and I am thinking of joining your masterclass which some of my mates are doing. I would love to get better at filming and your course would be really good I think. I hope you are having a great day!
Do it mate...you won't regret joining full-time filmmaker..see you in the course👍
This is great to see that mirrorless camera from Sony and Canon and also Panasonic are now able to provide multi-purpose camera that can be used in many different situation that a cinema camera almost impossible to do. I think the biggest advantage of owning this camera is the features that were putted inside a small form factors. Maybe the biggest con is just about the camera's dynamic range that separates them from the cinema cameras lineup
I, too, prefer Canon colors and love the RF cameras!! I have the same ideology.
When he showed the color test, I immediately said, "Canon is on the right. No question." Then when he was explaining the differences, I'm like, "Yep, yep, yep, yep." And when he finally revealed which was which my mouth dropped to the floor.
Such a beast of a camera! If the price ever comes down to the $5000 range I'd buy it w/o hesitation
We've seen it onsale between black friday and NYE for close to $5K. :)
VERY well done review, Jake!
Well done , i enjoyed everything about this presentation.
Nice video for the amount of time you had it, but having reviewed and used the A7S III, you should've known that you can 100% change the internal hear limit to 'High'. This is a huge sticking point that you missed and should be addressed.
Very informative thanks !
You completly knocked it out in 1 day. Lots of Info, great vid.
You guys are from Utah! Hope to see you out shooting things, might even buy the course now :D
Well done. Thanks for the review.
Well done! I recently had a chance to spend a day comparing these 2 cameras, and had mostly the same reactions all around- for example, I was also blown away that Sony’s colors were so much better than Canon’s. And I HATED the colors on Sony’s older cameras like the a7iii!
Thanks for the honest review. That shutter sound is sick but it's not mechanical.
I don’t know how you did the overheating test but I’ve heard that if you tilt the screen out it performs much much better, and that’s probably why it didn’t overheat while actually using the camera
This was so cool to see a canon shooters perspective. Awesome
Hey brother what would you recommend for someone doing both photography and video in terms of a single camera and lens(es) if budget/cost was unlimited?
So far I am thinking either Sony Alpha 1 (A1), Sony A7IV, or A7SIII .
Ignore prices, I looking to buy once/cry once on most versatile camera & lens(es) setup.
First time to the channel, loved the video. Just subscribed. What handle did you attach to the A1? I need one of those for my camera
Pictureline is where I bought my current camera from. Super helpful staff
I'm curious how the colour science of the A1 compares to the A7Siii. Oh man, I wish they put a flip screen or 2-axis tilt screen on the A1, it would be my perfect camera!
I'm pretty sure it the same colour science
Super interested to see also.
Best video yet, not even the content just the way it was delivered
Did you have the heat setting to high mode ? If not it overheats very fast.
I can't find the Top Handle that you are using in the video, is that by SmallRig?
Awesome video! What is the name of that accessory you use on top of the camera to hold it?
Nice interesting camera seems justify the price and very informative video thanks
very nicely explained..keep it up subscriber from nepal
You've got me excited!!
How do you make the A1 show what it's focusing on in video mode. The same as photo mode. Cheers Barry.
subbed. Damn, best A1 video yet.
Great review, love de colors too 🤩 Will you try the Sony FX3 ?
I wonder if Sony has/will correct their color via software updates for older models?
There was a time I remember when Canon was used to be known for their Color science, and now I think the tables have turned. Right?
New subscriber here. Your video was easy to watch and appreciate your honesty. Just picked up an a1 😂
How long does the battery last shooting 4k video? Thank you
The way homie popped outta the crib in that suit? Cleannnnnn
I just wish the screen articulated and bummer about the overheating... That's a bummer. Did you mention you can dial in the shutter for flicking light or that the shutter door closes? That's a huge benefit to keep dust off the sensor. Wish my A7siii had that. Gerald Undone says the A1 has better dynamic range as well than A7siii. Though lowlight isn't as good.
I just had mine delivered. It also heated up while I was sorting out the menus. I've read that a firmware update might solve this but haven't had to e for that just yet. How did you guys get over that problem?
Thanks
The menu heat is normal. Change the "Auto Temp" setting to HIGH. The default setting is much too aggressive for no reason at all. If you do any long term recording you will have to film with the lcd pulled away from the body to get the long recording times without overheating. 8k is the most taxing for heat and if you want "extreme" non stop recording times (hour plus) get the battery grip. Most of the shut down heat is because of the battery getting hot inside the body.
@@kennethwilliamsinc thanks
The color science on the A1 is unbelievable compared to the canon. Wow.
I totally had it wrong. Thought the Cannon on the right side. How much do you know about the PANASONIC AG-DVX200? I respect you guys and wondered how you view it as a camera overall. Thanks tor the insight, looks like I’m ordering a new toy. Sony’s stepped it up big time🤛🏽 Great review
What top handle are you using? Great review!
The newly hired editor is so awesome.
awesome video! Your tips have helped me make better videos on my RUclips Channel
Thanks so much for sharing
Best Sony A1 review ever. Thank you 👍✌
Hi from Germany. Which grip do you use on the A1?
What canon camera did you use for the colour test? Must be the c70 right?
What monitor are you using in this vid?
Hey Jake! Would y’all ever consider reviewing the LUMIX S1H and S5? 🥺 or maybe add a small review to the course? I know the GH5 settings are in the course, but I think the S5 is a great camera that could use yalls expert reviews 🔥
Iam sure 8k 10 bit looks amazing on the big screen hard to tell on youtube compared to a high bit rate 1080p especially watching on a cell phone or tablet. Thanks for the video.
Ok... you convinced me, im getting the Sony A1... i just need to save the $6,495 I’m missing to be able to afford it ;( I’ll stick to my a7iii for now.
Haha yea. I've enjoyed the a7iii. I'm an amateur though. Autofocus and low light ability on it is amazing for its age. I want to get good at film making before I get into high end cameras
You're very unbiased for a Canon user... Subscribed!
I would love a photography review too!
SUCH A SICK CAMERA!
Did you have the high temp setting turned on?
Great test good job
Your color with videos is epic. nice job
I’d rather get the 7SIII plus other accessories.
I’ve shot paid photography jobs (headshots) on my Siii. No one cared.
great review
Does anyone know the grip he was using? I'd like that.
Waiting all the time
How do people match up separate audio on shoots like this?
How do i lock the exposure without having to hold down the AEL button?
What lenses did you use on the Canon and Sony bodies for the smoke bomb color test?
Looks like a pretty sick camera! I would be interested to see a comparison to other similarly priced cameras.
I'd love to stack it up against more cameras
Sadly theres no competition at this time, and you have a lot of videos comparing it with REDs etc, maybe Canon R1 in near future, but who knows what they will offer :)
4:55 is he wearing Peter McKinnon’s Owl cap. 😂 Game recognize Game 🎉
Thanks canon man that’s all I needed to know ✌️❤️🤑
Hey, good review and I subscribed. I think you were very fair. I own both the Sony A1 and the Sony A7SM3. I knee camera right was the A1 right away. The colour science is amazing on both these cameras. Buy yourself a DSC chart and you will see perfect targets when you shoot it. Too bad you only had it 24 hours. The one reason I use my A7S3 on commercial shoots is pattern noise on the A1 that can cause a horrid moire, metal clad siding, metal mesh, shirt patterns. This is my biggest disappointment. You’re the first person I’ve seen overheat this camera. Did you have the control setting at high? Good review overall. Thanks
Does anyone know if an external monitor can be used via HDMI from the A1, WITHOUT the A1 switching off its internal display when recording?
I’ve got the A7SIII and it’s such an improvement over the A7iii in terms of monitor both the cameras display and an external Small HD monitor when shooting.
Yeah a7iv loses info when using both monitors. Annoying
Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but is the new Sony Color in the a1 the same as the new Sony color on the a7Siii?
Wow this camera is a gem
WOOOOWW!!! sony is getting better colours, like honestly!
Thanks for telling about overheating.
I loved the intro
How exactly do they calculate “stops” of ibis
I would honestly wait for that Sony A7iv.
Great video. I want you to have this camera for a review on the photo side of it. Come to the Sony side!
The overheating problem controversy actually was not so much the overheating but the artificial overheating based on a timer & 2 hr cooling period. I would like to know if the heat limit was set to high with the screen out on the A1 - R5 owner👀
Were those overheating tests done with the temperature limit set to "standard" or "high"? That makes a huge difference.
We cut this out of the video but we tried both!
@@JakeWeisler Excellent, thank you!
I was so surprised when he said that was the Sony camera 😂😂
is landon still using the a7siii?
Good cam 👍👍👍
Curious what you think of the LUMIX line cameras. The S5 and S1H match up to these cameras as well with the S5 being much cheaper. Why don’t you review Panasonic’s full frame cameras?
What zeiss lens did you use?
