"I like sitting on the couch, just holding this camera, for no reason at all." That is the most real statement of the photography experience I have heard on RUclips. I don't feel so weird anymore. LOL. Thanks, Manny!
When I started photography in 2018 in Chicago. Manny's videos were such an inspiration to me. I've been on this journey and learned a lot from you. Fast forward 6 years, I've upgraded from the D200, to the D600, D750, and Z6II, and I've been published in 6 different magazines. I'm picking up business and hopefully I'll get to where I'm trying to go. I just wanted to say thank you to you for being a guide and sharing your experience. It helped me a lot when I wanted to quit. Keep going brother.
The man who made me the photographer i am today 😎 Bro u are the biggest influence to my photography journey. One day i hope we can do a shoot together bro✊🏾📸
Hey Manny! Just dropping in to tell you thank you for being so vulnerable about your struggles on RUclips. I had my car broken into yesterday, and they stole my Panasonic Gx7. I was really hurt that someone would do this to me and take away something so dear to me and my hobby... especially when I didn't do anything to them to deserve it. Regardless, your video about having things stolen has really helped stay positive and level-headed about the situation, realizing that I'm not alone in having this happen to me. Thanks man
I still use my X100s I've had for ages. I got mine because my cameras were becoming a work thing, and my kit had grown to a large roller bag. My X100s got me to enjoy photography and make it fun again. I agree, there is no real alternative. It is what it is, and if that is what you want, you want an X100.
For me, what stands out here is the person behind the camera - this is where the talent makes the difference. I don't think there is that much of a difference anymore on the camera side, so the focus must be on the right thing - the image. Thanks for uploading.
Always appreciate the content and your honest opinions, Manny! It's interesting what you (very honestly) said about "being a RUclipsr, I have to use the latest cameras...". I think this gets lost on a lot of viewers and buyers. Content creators are not always using their preferred/favourite camera, just what they 'have' to use to keep views coming in from us gear-obsessed people. I don't shoot hardcore sports/wildlife, so for purely photography, I'm still waiting for a compelling reason to 'upgrade' from a Sony A7R III(A). All bodies post-2017 are sensational for stills and give pretty much identical stills performance, so it all comes down to the glass for me...
The FujiFilm X100VI is just such a joy to shoot with. As a true photographer and an old school one at that… the experience is just wonderful. It’s a modern purist kind of creative plaything. It just gives such a “real” experience to capturing life around you.
11:30 Oh Manny, I really value the shutter sound, and you did a great job simulating the A7R3 shutter sound. I agree that the shutter sound is a crucial aspect of photography work.
The shots from the Hasselblad really show you how truly special those camera are. All your shots are amazing, but the Hasselblad (chef's kiss). Man, I would donate an organ for one!
I like that you are not only for Sony like many RUclipsrs.. I have Canon R5 and it still amaze me everytime.. I had Sony A7III (which was also one of my favorite) and Sony A7IV (worse than A7III imo..).
@@nagual2335 R6II is better than R5: Better/more advanced autofocus in photos and video. Much larger AF area with small aperture lenses (like the RF 600 and 800mm lenses). Lower noise at high ISOs (photos/video). Faster bursts. Less rolling shutter. Much better/sharper full frame, oversampled 4k60. No record limits. Full frame oversampled 24/30 with no record limits or overheating. MUCH better battery life. Subject Detect Only Autofocus (found only on Canon Cinema cams, it's a game changer). High speed custom anti-flicker speeds for photos and video (I don't think the R5 has that). R6 II has slightly better dynamic range for photos as well, especially at higher ISOs. Some say the colour from the R6II is also the best they've seen from a Canon mirrorless so far, though that's not something I care too much about because colour is easy to massage to liking from raw files. The extra MP don't really matter because when I upsample from 24MP on the R6 II to the 45MP on the R5, there is almost no difference (even viewed at 100% zoom on a 5k monitor). When printed I see no diff. If I upscale using any AI (like Enhance in Adobe products), the R6 II files usually look slightly better. MP are very overrated at this point. Then again, I've printed billboards with 8MP images from the old 1DIIN and they looked great. If I really need large, using free AI upscale I can get 100MP images that look incredible. The only thing the R5 has that I miss is the 4k120. But the 4k60 is so good that I shoot that most of the time. I saved about $2500 cdn getting the R6II over the R5 and bought some nice glass with that money. The R5 is still amazing though and supposedly has a better build (though I can't feel it when holding both) and slightly larger LCD and higher res EVF (though I can't really notice them when using side by side). I kind of like the look of the top LCD screen too, but in real world the dial works really well.

Thanx for the great video. I have the R5 and X100V and couldn't be happier. When I first borrowed a R5 I knew I was never going to use anything but Canon in my career. I had a XH2 and a A7RIV and sold them the same week, and bought the R5. And the X100 is in my pocket whenever I'm not in the studio. They're my brusches and I can paint whatever painting I want with them.
I noticed you said you like the medium format aspect of the X2D. The Nikon Z8 and Z9 have that as well. It’s the 5:4 format which is one of the things I loved most about shooting Nikon. To me it was a game changer and the biggest reason I want to switch back from Sony to Nikon. Try it with your Z8. You’ll love it!
The point is: today cameras are so good, that you can peek whatever feels right as long as you have the support you need in your location. There are exceptions, Fuji does not have a good action camera. You can make it work (I used to shoot dance with a film camera and take pictures of peek moments) but you will be at a disadvantage and will get far fewer keepers (for action for the most part, Sony is the best then Nikon Z8/Z9 then Canon, even if you don't believe it and just right now, as the new Canons are coming, but you are splitting hairs). A Hassy will not help you with action, but if you are a portrait photographer, food, product, or landscape the Hassy (H2D) and the Fuji are fast and consistent enough. Choose what you love.
Good stuff brother....as usual. I am in agreement with 85%..except the hassy, The internal SSD failed on mine. Just 45 days out of warranty. The body is now a boat anchor. Those Hassleblad shots are insane but that camera is just too expensive imho! But I understand the allure of standing out in the crowd. Any thoughts on the A9III for strobe portraits? I understand the hit in megapixels but I used to knock it outta the park with the Canon 6d (which has even less MPs than the A9III).
Coming from the Canon R8, should I still get the R5? Or try to get the R5ii? Mostly Photography. I want to keep the R8 for video. I don't think you'll respond with 275 comments lol but worth a try
I loved your TOP 5 list of cameras Manny. My fav of the bunch was the Z8 ( I have the Z9) and the Hasselblad and the fact it has internal storage. But all your images from all the cameras were 🔥🔥.
Hey quick question, out of all those cameras which one would you say has the best image quality? And which camera do you think would be the best to do strictly portraits no videos .
Personally I didn’t expect that one of your favorites was a Fujifilm camera... I was hooked with this video, the sample shots amazing as always, and that Hasselblad one of a kind, thank you!
Manny’s video reviews of gear are the Real Deal compared to most of them out there. This is one of the few channels that you can see a review of a lens or camera that has a real model posing with real photos while Manny breaks it down for you.
Good list and reasons. Maybe weirdly, after shooting with a GFX100s for a year, I am now drawn to go back to my Nikon D850 (to be the point where I just bought 2 lenses for the D850). I just find I love the ergonomics of the Nikon, and whilst I know the Z8 is a much better camera, I really can't justify upgrading cause the D850 does everything I need of it.
If you wanna be able to change your lenses the ZF. If that doesn’t matter to you the Fuji has a higher megapixel pixel count and is smaller so easier to carry around. But the Zf also has wayyyyy better autofocus.
@@animegeek6118 Yeh thats what i was thinking too, the fuji has limitations and i think the biggest is the timeline. lol I do like the zf form factor, but also having an a7rv makes me think - do i need it lol

"I have to use the latest gear to make RUclips videos" Wrong. You don`t have to buy always the latest stuff. Any dslr/mirrorless camera with 4K video will do the job. Nobody cares about how sharp and crispy is the video. Content is more important. Always. But you are still one of my favourite portrait photographer. 😁

hello Manny, I love your videos & more over I love your passion, professionalism & overall knowledge about all camera brands in general not a specific brand per se; and that makes you stand out from the rest. I really enjoy the knowledge you share from your videos. I am a hobbyist & I am very passionate about photography, and of course I have way too many things to learn, but I am someone who does not like to change lenses a lot, if ever actually, so with that in mind, which single lens to be used in order to get the best shot with a beautiful Bokeh effect, that can fit a group of people say for example 3-7 people in one shot, as well as portrait photography that is a prime lens not a 24-70 mm f/2.8 zoom lens. I am looking for a prime lens that is anything between the focal points "1.2- 1.8" favoring of course the former than the latter. For a Nikon system DSLR or Mirrorless camera, as well as a Sony mirrorless camera; and would you advise getting rid of your DSLR in favor of the mirrorless cameras? Why yes & why not? And if you want to recommend a different camera given the above specification of just one lens, for groups as well as portrait photography, mirrorless or DSLR, please feel free to do so. Sorry for so many questions in one paragraph … Would really really appreciate your reply …
It's good to see an unbiased video on cameras. I don't get to use as many brands as you, but I've found something that I love in every brand that I have tried. Amazing video 💪🏽
Good morning, let me briefly share my experience with you. I have always been a user of Nikon cameras. These are reliable and well-built cameras, with an excellent screen and viewfinder. However, with the transition to mirrorless, I switched to Sony. Having also used the Nikon Z6II in a professional setting, I can say that the eye recognition autofocus and other features did not provide reliability for my work, and it must be admitted that it is not up to the competition. I am very satisfied with Sony, specifically with the Sony A7 IV and the R series... I will never go back! For me, it's simply a matter of equipment, meaning what I need is just reliability at work, quality, and a good feel.
@@MannyOrtiz It worked. I downloaded all raw files and played with the sliders in Lightroom. It's really hard to make a clear scientific judgment - for example - Canon lens wasn't RF 50 1.2 and there was only one lighting scenario. But I can testify how the images made me "feel" (which is subjective): Nikon Raw file felt very pleasing, I felt so comfortable playing with the file. Canon file felt neutral and true, but shadows fell apart at 800 ISO. Sony felt dead and color seperation was completely "Off". Hasslblad felt premium - had an edge - colors felt like "perfection" - (but not by far). Fuji felt great honestly - and shadows didn't fall apart at ISO 800. I was amazed how copy paste the same settings made such RADICAL differences between all images. which means that every camera raw file is a whole entire unique universe. I shoot Sony, Nikon and Canon daily. So I'm passionate about that stuff. Greatful for your content and sharing that passion
I got the R5 also, I am a Sony guy have been suing mirrorless for the last 20 years, I find the Sony has the best menu system, easy to nagivate, The only thing i like about R5 is the color and Great for sports, The Sony is the KING OF AUTO FOCUS " hands Down" I no longer own the R5
The review when you filmed that game made me want a Z8. Sooooo....I sold my Fujifilm XH2 and sold all my lens for 3300. I bought the Z8 and the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8. The Laowa 10mm dff 0 distortion, Viltrox 27mm 1.2 pro and the 180 600mm are in my near future purchases. It was a Nail biting experience for me Manny 😅
Oh wow. I didn’t expect the 1st camera! You should for sure use it more, I hear you on the RUclips side of things though. Mk ii nearly upon us! Watched until the end, the ending is so funny
I absolutely love love love my Z8. It, and Nikon overall, is slept on for sure. Nikon's terrible entry into the mirrorless space continues to hamper them in the minds of consumers. They have caught up to, and even surpassed the other brands in some ways, but people generally don't know that.
Agreed!! Nikon is thinking in ways like no other also, for example, no one thought about Auto Capture before Nikon, that was a genius idea and they have it working very well so far...
Sorry! In attempt to post an “easy” video before the end of the month, I ended up making this over 20 minutes long. This is why I use a teleprompter 🤣
Manny what if you recorded the endings first? Then everything else.
It was the perfect length! I never got bored not even for a moment
I would’ve watched it even if it was an hour long. Great work!

I do it actually more than taking photos ;)
Don't worry you always find someone more weird than yourself :)
That's on a different level... It's therapeutic

4. Mamiya RB67 (my favorite medium format SLR)
5. Fuji S5 Pro (my favorite APS-C digital SLR)
6. Fuji X-Pro2 (my favorite APS-C digital mirrorless)
Hi Manny, just realized watching this video you have been in Madeira island, my Hometown.
I have followed you from the very beginning and i'm gutted you were in madeira and havent had a chance to meet you.
let me know if you ever want to go back, I can provide you accomodation and take you around to great photography places
Still got my Canon 5DS with Sigma Art Series lenses but my new Hassleblad X2D with 90mm XCD is the bomb
Great upload Manny, love the photos as well as your passion
The Sony A1 is not mentioned in the list below the video. Other than that, interesting assessment!
X100 (I have the V) is my favorite camera. I’ve had them all.
hi MaNNY, No Leica (SL, Q, M) ?
may be it's not very practical for or doesn't fit in your style of work !!
i have M10-P *white* Limited Edition + 50 Summilux
would love to own the Hasselblad X2D
hello Manny,
I love your videos & more over I love your passion, professionalism & overall knowledge about all camera brands in general not a specific brand per se; and that makes you stand out from the rest.
The most important thing about all your videos is that you are really handsome man ❤️🤗
Of course you made incredibly good videos/content 🤩
very nice video and informative. i shoot canon and i have no regrets, nice design, handling and most importantly the ease of use
What kind of stand is the Canon R5 on? The vertical camera stand
Hey the shutter sound is extremely important I totally agree with you. (Pentax k-1, k-3 iii user)
Great content, love that you’re showing so much of your work impressive, and motivating… cheers
Insightful stuff, Manny! Really like how you put this together 👏
It's good to see an unbiased video on cameras. I don't get to use as many brands as you, but I've found something that I love in every brand that I have tried. Amazing video 💪🏽
Hey what camera stand are you using on the canon R5? I’ve been looking for one.
This guy keeps showing off his camera gear these days. I used to like him when he was basic. Now its just a flex.
Basically any brand is good enough. Just pick the one that does something extra for your niche.
Hey Manny,
What is the mechanism / bracket / tripod you are using for vertical shooting in the studio in this video?
Is that Hasselblad a higher tier camera than a Leica camera?
Manny is the man!
Manny, is there any way to test out some Hasselblad raw files? Is there any link available? Thanks!
Yes go to my “I was wrong about medium format” video. The google drive link is in the description box. Come back here and tell me what you think
You're videos got me into taking photography more seriously. Great video
And he will forever be known as "Ja' Quinn" to me now.
Good video Manny!
I feel you on the shutter sound being pleasant! It matters to me too!
Idk if i personally believe a “best” camera exists. If u can take the photos u want or need that’s all the counts.
Exactly. Doesn’t exist.
Manny, i love u . Thanks for all yout tine you dedicated us to teach us.
bruh, Manny's got guns! 💪
for me the best shuttersound is the nikon zf :)
Camera #5 ❤
The review when you filmed that game made me want a Z8. Sooooo....I sold my Fujifilm XH2 and sold all my lens for 3300. I bought the Z8 and the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8.
The Laowa 10mm dff 0 distortion, Viltrox 27mm 1.2 pro and the 180 600mm are in my near future purchases.
It was a Nail biting experience for me Manny 😅
Dang I wish the other brands would jump on board with photo-only specs and dump everything they had ino it!
Manny straight up cuddling with the Z8. But I ain’t hating!
You’re awesome I enjoyed every moment of the video
Amazing video !! Wow ! Such a lot of $$ tied up or invested plus the lenses that are needed ??
Hail the Fuji!! 👑
They have caught up to, and even surpassed the other brands in some ways, but people generally don't know that.
i hope one of their next firmware updates allows for recording to external SSD drives.
Agreed!! Nikon is thinking in ways like no other also, for example, no one thought about Auto Capture before Nikon, that was a genius idea and they have it working very well so far...
I love the Nikon d850 after so many years
Actual solid street shots btw
