Still impressive that these 5 year old systems do such a good job. I think we're seeing more and more devs targeting the pro and X in preparation for the next gen rather than limiting themselves by initially targeting the old consoles.Interesting to see the OG PS4 suffers more than the One with lots of players, I guess its slower CPU bottlenecking the faster GPU. The only other time this has been obvious was Assassins Creed Unity where the ps4 was better in cutscenes but worse in actual gameplay.

This was bound to happen sooner or later and more so for the Xbox consoles as the One X is a lot more powerful, anyway, what we are seeing with consoles now is what we see on the PC that the ones with the more powerful hardware have an advantage, we are seeing it with this game, we are also seeing it with that new Forza game where the One X can do 60fps whereas the One can only do 30fps.

Battlefield was the only franchise that I cared from EA. Not anymore. EA is non-existent for me.
Same lol. BFBC 2, BF4 and BF1 was great, but with this new stuff they dead for me. I barely play the BF1 anymore because I have to use freaking Origin, the worst plattform ever.
BFBC 2 was ultimate console-plebean shooter for its time, had tons of fun in it and first one on X360. Funny that multiplayer FPS's didnt evolve anywhere, so trash like Battle Royal is now TOP DOGE. BFs original concept is solid and i have no idea why they would need to turn it into another COD.

You're gonna miss out on lot of games by hating every Multiplat Developer. I personally have no gripe on any devs, I'd buy any game from any dev as long as its good.
Guys, a tip here... Motion Blur at 100% makes miracles, you feel every stutter with it OFF, but it is silk smooth with it ON. Same think with BF1, and all other games.
It won't affect your performance, I had a 3.0KD most matchs I've played. I have a Regular PS4.
I love Motion Blur in all games, and don't get why people dislike it. Games looks terrible and unrealistic without Motion Blur, and like I said, you feel every single, minimum, drop in frames. I think most people just have this pre concept that it's a BAD thing, turn it off imediatelly, and never test or try it.

While there is a difference in input latency from 30 to 60fps, the game never feels unresponsive. I think the low input lag is more a product of the Frostbite Engine itself. That's why while there is a difference between Standard consoles and Upgraded ones, this will not give so much of a great advantage in gameplay.
Never had a problem playing Battlefield 4 or Battlefield 1 on the Xbox One S and they look good to me on a Sony Bravia TV. When your dealing with a weaker console the choice of TV seems to be even more important. For some reason the Battlefield V BETA looks worse than the Battlefield 1 BETA.
DigitalFoundry, I have got the impression that DICE have Betas to gather actual performance data to use in each console optimizations.
Where was the performance worst, under what circumstance.
Use it to validate later more optimized builds, do they perform adequately in the same situation?
If not tweak a bit more, reduce resolution, remove objects or effects.
If this game was a spin-off and advertised as alternate reality, then it wouldn't be as unpopular as it is. It's only because it's a numbered game (which makes it a significant entry) and the setting being WW2 that's it's hated. DICE "depiction" is disrespectful, as WW2 was a horrible event in history, not a costume party.

So when it comes to XB1 and PS4 720P PQ is poor, but when it's 480, and 360P on the Switch it's all things considered not bad?
With that said I think Dice needs to provide the option to lock the FPS to 30. This should increase the average resolution on both consoles as they run near 30 FPS anyway. I also think they should provide the option to lock the resolution as well. If you want 60 FPS unlock the frame rate and lock the resolution to a base 720P, or 480P since 480P is acceptable on the Switch. If you prefer PQ lock to 30 FPS at 900P with an aggressive but dynamic LOD implementation to help CPU performance.
30 fps is nearly unplayable in multiplayer, only acceptable for single games.
@Le Chat Perdu Lol, the Switch is suppose to be next gen as the WII U is actually the start of the current generation PS4 and XB1 belongs to. The Switch just came out early because the WII U failed miserably. The Maxwell architecture found in the Switch is actually two generations ahead of the GNC 1.0 based found in the PS4 and XB1. The XB1 GPU is only like 30% faster in raw computational performanc (1 TFLOP vs 1.31). The Switch GPU is seriously nerfed by 25 gbps bandwidth so it can't stretch its legs unlike the XB1 and PS4. I'm not sure about the power of the Switch CPU but from a feature set stand point the Switch GPU has few more tricks up its sleeves including delta compression, and deferred tiled rasterization when compared to base XB1 and PS4 Pro. In closing the Switch is actually next gen when compared to base PS4, and XB1. If you compare the Switch to the enhanced consoles it's a generation or two behind with the PS4 Pro having some Vega features or GCN 5.
@@dimka11ggg It depends on the game, games like BF, COD, and Doom 2016 requires quick twitch actions so 60 is preferred but certainly not required. If you're talking about competitive multiplayer than yes 60 plus is required. If you're playing competitive MP on a console you're working backwards. TV input, and controller latency causes delays in your actions, now add in a wobbly frame rate as seen on this video and you have visual judder which further distracts from your ability to be competitive. Add in the low resolution and your ability to pick off enemies in distance is reduced because the console can't resolve fine detail at a distance. Snipers aka campers will have the advantage on you at 1080P, 30 FPS when you're trying to hit 60 FPS jumping between 720P and 1080P. I think the best scenario for the base consoles is to do what I said earlier. Give players the ability to lock the FPS to 30 in exchange for higher overall resolutions.
you seem to be missing the pretty big point that a Switch fits into your pocket. That's the "all things considered" part. You're trying to argue that a small tablet shouldn't be excused for not pulling the same performance as what is essentially a small PC.

7:29 this is how I felt like when I played Battlefield 1 on the Xbox one. I had to switch to pc I could just feel the frame rate dwindling. The Console port of this game doesn't look bad. Yeah theres some weird shit like when you look at a metal stand held together by little bits of metal the closest metal stands looks more higher res than the other one right behind it on Narvik, but I mean its not like you'll be looking at the metal stand all day. But regardless I think anyone one on xbox one or ps4 needs to just build a pc if you want steady 60 fps. Its pretty cheap to hit that for the same price of an xbox one x.

My i5-4690 and GTX 1060 with 16gb (2x8gb) 1600 RAM are hitting 60fps average on 2500x1600 resolution with high settings on BF5. Is that normal? Its better than I was expecting!
What's the point of having a dynamic resolution on PS4 and trying to reach 1080p when the game drops to 30-40 fps regularly?
Just drop the resolution to a constant 720p so the framerate will be closer to 60fps. Though there might not be much of a difference due to the Cpu limitations.
Within the first 2 seconds of the video I got a bit confused and thought it was either battlefield 3 gameplay or battlefield 4 gameplay with a different hud.
I felt like my skill took a hit on the BF V beta compared to previous games. I had a hard time fighting enemies at a distance, my kills were done more at closer ranges in the bases.

Thanks for this, we need some love for the base systems :D As for the game, I did honestly notice the frame drops, but for some reason, it personally really doesn't bother me like it would on pc. Had fun with the beta(yeah EA are assholes, but the core gameplay is still fun).
Man they should have given players a choice for playing at 720p on the og machines. What's the point of even attempting 60fps when the game runs at mid 40 most of the time. There should have been 1080p options for pro and one x too. CoD used to run at like 640p on the older generation but nobody was complaining, because it ran smooth.
Given the number of base machines versus the comparatively small user numbers on the beefier machines, I don't think machine to machine advantages are going to mean much. Plus who's going to use an EA game as a compelling reason to upgrade this close to gen's end anyway?

Sort of. If you've never experienced the Pro and X then it has, but if you have seen the new ones the regular PS4 can look fantastic, or utterly dreadful depending on the game.

Mikey C if you play ps4 pro in a 4k tv, there is big chance that regular ps4 will look better when playing on a native 1080p tv.
Because ps4 pro cant play native 4k , it has to upscale the graphics and it will look soft and not as detailled as a ps4 running a 1080p game on a native 1080p tv...
Ps4 pro can look very ugly on a pc monitor when the game is not native resolution because monitors dont upscale with good quality like high end tv or xbox (built in hardware upscaler) and you will see a lot of jaggines and aliasing.
Maybe you will understand what i mean if you ever played a ps3 on a hdtv and on a fhdtv. Big big difference. Also that is why xbox360 always looked better for most people, because Xbox 360 has built in hardware upscale chip. Unlike playstation , sony cheap out and use software upscale with very bad result compared to hardware chip that can make 720p look very good on a 1080p monitor without visible jaggines and aliasing.

Ben Flesher what im saying, ps4 and ps4 pro difference, most of the time it can be seen only if you use the pro on a 1080p screen and let it downsimple.
On a 4k tv, it will look blurry because it will be running at something like 1440p.

I have 3 pc monitors 17 inch 768p , 19 inch 900p 16:10 and 22 inch 1080p .
They all look the same at native resolution ( sharpness and clarity).
Gaming on 19 inch 1440x900 is much better than on 22 inch 16:9 1080p , more things visible on screen and with twice frame rate. Quality is the same if use msaa and even at 1080p you have to use it or your game will look aliased and jaggy.
Imo if these stupid devs push for 1080p 60 fps with more graphic details it will be much better.
Tv manufacturers are out of ideas and instead of working to improve 1080p tvs they come up with this 4k crap to sell more tvs .

Should've done a review on the PC version. Looks better in basically every area. Screen space reflections are awful in console versions, even the xbox one x footage that I saw in the previous BFV video and compared it to what max settings on PC look like.
I remember when people used to argue that consoles were better than PC because of the fairness in online play, everyone getting the same framerate and resolution.

Wouaaa !!! BF4 seems really an old game on base consoles ! Ultra aliasing experience with low resolution ! But at his time, I find this gorgeous ! BF1 was a real enhancement on base console, more beautifull and stable. If you remember the beta of BF1, it was unpolish ... like the Beta of BFV, so I think Dice can easily achieve a good looking game on this base consoles. It actually look good, just the frame rate is not stable.

At least the 360 for example lasted 8 years and served well.

I get why developers tend to use TAA nowadays, but it only really works at 1440p and above. On lower resolutions, it significantly blurs the image and makes it worse instead of making it better. And the reality is that most people use 1080p screens, even high-end PC users, because of they either value the very high FPS numbers more, or they want to push settings to the absolute limit, and even a GTX 1080 struggles to hit 60FPS consistently at max settings at 2560x1440p in many games. 720p is bad enough in itself, but with TAA it can be an absolute nightmare.
But using lumasharpen on TAA makes the image look weird because it because it basically creates fake pixels. Same goes for the TAA sharpening that is in the PC version of Rainbow Six: Siege. Sorry, I can't explain it better.
The best anti-aliasing I've seen so far is SMAA 2TX / SMAA 2TX Filmic (Prey, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Call of Duty WWII uses it).

I got a 4k Monitor on sale over a year ago and paired it with my GTX970 (future proofing I know the 970 aint for 4K). Most newer singeplayer games run at 1440p at medium or high with a 30fps lock. Looks great no aa needed.
But going down to 1080 is a bit soupy and then exacerbated by garbage TAA or FXAA implementation like in FFXV making it a visual mess. If Lumashapren isn't getting the job done see if you can use Reshade's SMAA. I was playing Vanquish PC and even at 1080p SMAA was cleaning house and keeping it from becoming total soup.

I could only last one round of the Beta due to the awful dialogue between characters. It’s supposed to be a Battlefield, a truly hellish experience, but the characters just chat away to each other so nonchalantly “Hello old friend” with poorly executed stereotypical cockney accents, or the other end of the spectrum, sounding like upper class toffs.
Women snipers shouting with their high pitch voice is more annoying.
You can here someone screaming as they die from their wounds and all of a sudden ELLO MATE, NOICE SHOT, UHG, NOT YOU AGAIN, ELLO OLD FRIEND. Every time someone spawns on you.
ONE thing that i know is that with BATTLEFIELD 2042 they will optimize the game to run at 1080p and 60FPS on xbox one and PS4 ALL THE TIME. I just wonder what will be the resolution and fps on the ps4 pro and xbox one x. i know for sure that xbox series x will be running at 4k at 120 fps or higher same with PS5 4k and 120 fps or higher.

it makes no sense to play with a stuttering unstable framerate that changes between 35, 40, 45 and 55 fps every two seconds.
lock it at 30 for everyone on console and then its pretty stable on all systems and no one has an advantage.

In hindsight, Battlefield was never immersive, it was always crazy and unrealistic, so if you're expecting realism, look elsewhere. The game's supposed to be fun, not a boring ass generic WW2 game that has been done a million times already.

Everything else in the game is basically whatever WW2 had carefully detailed, guns, vehicles and airplanes look, sound and work accurately (as accurate as a battlefield game can be, just slightly better every release), the locations are beautifully done and give off an apocalyptic vibe, voice over work is amazing, you'll constantly hear other people communicating or crying for help automatically in situations, even if the player hasn't chose to say anything, further making it immersive, you can turn on native languages for every country to make it feel more realistic, what more do you want to make an arcade-like game like BF more "immersive" anyways? This game is marketed as an immersive experience yet we're able to give our avatars prosthetic limbs, bright blue face paint, and have a katana on our back whilst charging a German position in the farmlands of France. If there's a Pacific addition to this game how would you feel about a white soldier firing at you on Iwo Jima wearing an Imperial Japan uniform? How about fighting in the streets of Berlin and a black soldier ambushed you and he's wearing a Waffen SS uniform? Yes I'm aware this is a arcade shooter and there's more realistic experiences but I'm not taking issue with the gun play or anything of that nature. My issue is the blatant ignorance towards basic facts of the time period and calling it an immersive experience. If this was intended to be alternative reality I'd have no issue with it but they want everyone to accept this game as true to real world world war 2 experience. As for your women statement, I'm aware there were plenty of women involved in the war effort across multiple nations but only the Red Army and French Resistance fielded them in active combat roles. The only female soldiers Britain fielded in combat purpose roles were to man Anti Air emplacements during bombing runs in Britain.

Also, none of the tired and repetitive points you said matter, because it's not supposed to be a history book. Nowhere does the marketing claim that it's supposed to be 100% historically accurate, I seriously don't get where you're shitting on it for not being something it's not supposed to be. Your whole argument holds as much water as fire, so, I meant it doesn't hold any water.

Wouldn’t really make a huge difference for the Pro. The frame rate would be a bit more steady. But the resolution would barely go up
Xbox one > ps4 = frame rate
Ps4 > xbox one = graphics
