    The reason SLC has such a large grid is that originally there were garden spaces in the center of each block. Today there are only a couple left, most of it has been developed and roads run through them making the grid twice as tight

      Make sure that you have dynamic resolution off - that's the big one. If it's on constent or automatic, it'll look bad. Also, consider boosting up the LOD (level of detail) - potentially even in the advanced settings. Some people have also reported better graphics by switching anti-aliasing to TAA, which you can only do in advanced settings.
      Thanks so much for the super thanks!! Hope that works!

  • @Kafei01

    I think the most important thing to learn in CS2 is even if we now have 6 square on each side of the roads does not means we have to zone all of them.
    Aquiring a sense of scale is very important in this game and you are absolutely right to put it in perspective with real life grid comparaison.
    In a lot of videos I saw people do giant grid for their tiny rural village, that's ridiculous.

    • @estelyen
      @estelyen Год назад +1

      Very interesting to see someone with the same profile icon ;) And I agree, coming from CS1, you really have to adjust your way of thinking on the scale of things. The housing is fine on smaller grids, but many ploppables are absolutely huge compared with their CS1 counterparts. That shouldn't be a reason to build your grid to accommodate them though: Especially with the building addons, we should really be more prepared to switch existing things around a lot more or even demolish stuff to make room, including roads. I like that, because the city will look less artificial afterwards!

  • @Baleur
    @Baleur Год назад +20

    48:50 the awesome thing about the simulation in this sequel is that, not only accidents but the mini-"event" that is called "Traffic Jam" also matters.
    I had a non-traffic lighted intersection in the very entrance to my town, and it lead to a true traffic jam as a single car responsible got "stuck" inside the intersection itself, in the middle, due to the lane he tried to turn into, was blocked by another truck, which ofc lead to every other lane also being blocked in said intersection.
    Just like it happens irl.
    Adding a traffic light eventually cleared it up, as it prevents "colliding" lanes from blocking each other the same way.
    Just very cool that the game has a dedicated "traffic jam" event detection, that isnt just some arbitrary "very high traffic density" trigger, but actually triggers when a car gets specifically stuck in an intersection.

    Just wanted to leave a comment with my own personal opinion and advice. This is going to sound crazy but DO NOT immediately place a Clinic, Cemetary, or Landfill. Unless you feel like spending 100 Grand a month on services the outside connects can do for you, in a city of likely only a few thousand population. Will this upset your Citizens a little yes, but them being slightly unhappy I find is preferable to lighting your budget on fire the first chance you get. Milestones help with the cash influx sure, but I feel you should try and balance your budget first just cause it'll be better for you long term.

    I played CS1 and got to 890,000 population and then ran into "cannot build any more of this type" i.e. ROADS. I got so bummed after watching my city descend to 740,000 population. Now that CS2 is out I will get it and try again. Thank you for your cool, calm and collected tutorial. Very easy to understand though I may have to watch it a couple of times to catch all the details. 👍

    Game is unplayable at the moment. Like I have a i7 , 16GB RAM, GFORCE RTX 3050 AND IT RUNS LIKE SHIT. Even with the settings they provided to optimize the gameplay. If you don't own an amazing $3000+ system you're not gonna enjoy the state this game is in.

    I have been following you closely for quite a while (I swear I was subscribed to you already, but I just subscribed today...). I believe you had just picked up Cities Skylines when I first started following you. I haven't even watched much of this video, but I wanted to say that the concept is incredible. To have a city that you can come back to for any new content/DLC is a great idea.
    I have appreciated watching you grow into the Cities player that you are now. Your desire to stay as reasonably consistent with ACTUAL city planning is such a unique, entertaining (and informative) choice and I love the content. I'll have you know, WHENEVER I introduce Cities to anyone I tell them to watch You & Biffa. Allstars.

    I bought City Skylines over the Thanksgiving holiday and ... I am not the most successful city-planner, it seems. This is the first city builder I have played since SimCity 2000. Thanks for the in depth tutorial. I kept mentally exclaiming "that is how terraforming works!", "you can relocate buildings?" and "you can rotate buildings?" I think I am going to rewatch this later this week and take notes. Greatly appreciate it (from someone very new to this game genre). I also see you have a performance optimization video, so I am going to need to watch that too.
    EDIT: The starting grid info was very useful too as I didn't know how wide apart to set my roads, etc.

    18:00 since the groundwater pumping station produces less water, has higher upkeep, and higher cost, nobody would EVER place one of those.
    Because EVERY map has water. Even if its just a tiny disconnected lake. There are no desert maps.
    CO really gotta think about balance. If you're using a DEPLETABLE resource that is SCARCE in SPECIFIC locations, such as aquifers, that building MUST be cheaper to run OR produce more water per dollar, than the literal INFINITE water pump you can spam all over the coasts.
    This is like the most basic 101 game resource / economy balance that devs figured out in the 90's..
    An infinite resource extractor CANT be cheaper AND have higher output than the equivalent FINITE resource extractor.
    it makes no sense and i dont comprehend how CO even put these numbers in as temporary values in dev time..
    Like as soon as you've created the asset ingame, and you just enter some temp values to get it working, WHY would you make it worse and more expensive than the infinite option? Like, you can just enter OTHER numbers instead that makes it better or cheaper, it adds no dev time, no testing time, you're entering numbers anyway.
    Why not enter sensible numbers to begin with in relations to the other buildings? its insane to me.

    For those complaining about the game performance, or holding out buying due to reviews, all I can say is, the game runs fine if you have the recommended hardware stated to play the game. Those complaining either have PCs too old now, or have failed to turn off certain settings (DOF, MotionBlur) to drastically improve FPS.
    I am playing on a laptop and its running just fine.
