62, and I agree. I don't know if I would call him the voice of the generation, because we were lucky enough to have so many great voices, but he was among the best. My mom was a little unsure about them hearing my favorite song, "The Boxer". She didn't really think it was appropriate for me, who discovered the song at 10 to hear this:
"Asking only workman's wages, I come looking for a job
      But I get no offers
Just a come-on from the whores on 7th Avenue
I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome
      I took some comfort there,"

@@joannbeiser4907 There is a difference between being disrespectfull for all the music Paul has given us, and acknowledging that the man is 82 years old and can nolonger sing the way he used to.
I'm happy for the guy that he can still play guitar and do his thing, and several of his songs will always instantly bring me back to my youth, but notice how this is pretty much the only comment that says this is a good performance? The rest allmost exclusively say how it reminds them of when Paul was younger.
We can sit here and pretend that we have this song on repeat, but we don't. Paul is getting too old for this, somebody should tell him that.

While he can't play as cleanly as he once did, nor does he sound like he did decades ago, this was the best performance of this song that I've ever seen. Brilliant guitar arrangement, touching vocal. He didn't just perform that song, he embodied it. I was profoundly moved.

    • @dHolbach77
      @dHolbach77 14 дней назад

Wow. The stunning level of narcissism it must take to keep performing 25 years after you sounded decent. I'll never understand it: give it up already geezers! You sound like crap! Well adjusted and normal performers (like Rush) know when to quit! This was just sad. I wouldn't see this if you paid me. A lot.

I LOVE how he recognizes that his voice isn’t the same as when he was young, doesn’t try to recreate that young cover, but uses it to introduce even more soul. It reminds me of Johnny Cash’s later work, some of which is heavily used in tv and movie scenes to emphasize the heavy. I hope we continue to hear this Paul Simon version.

He and Cash both made some of their very best work at the end of life as well. There are artists who have one or two incredible peaks in their career and then sort of fade creatively, and then there are those like Simon or Cash who just seem to have an endless supply of creativity. They just do what they’re born to do 👍

Stephen must have loved this! Last time Paul was on, Stephen told him a story about his mother. She had gone into a store while he listened to the car radio, and she got in just as Paul was singing,
    "I know a woman - became a wife,
These are the very words she uses to describe her life,
She said a good day, ain't got no rain,
A bad day's when I lie in bed and think of things that might have been."
And Stephen's mother just said - "That's so true." In that moment he saw how profoundly that simple verse touched her, and saw a side of her he had never thought about. You could tell it affected him.

Love this song. Love Paul Simon's work. Still have my Bridge Over troubled waters album I got in 1970. He's a treasure. Cool that he came back and did this song for Stephen.

Virtuoso. Thank you so much Paul Simon for all your music and your performance - so many years, my whole life, really. I'm a boomer kid. Listen hard as I did, to his guitar and voice and song; it was virtuoso by way of experience and life.

Saw Simon & Garfunkel live in Osaka years ago, 3rd row center. Such a great concert and such great memories.
