In 2005, an acquaintance's ds was a conversation starter for me and a dude that has now been my best friend of nearly 20 years back when I showed up to a new school in the middle of our senior year. Thank you for this short.
I started with the gamecube and gba. I recently started to buy original gameboy games as a sort of casual collecting + games I actually want to play on original hardware and I can tell you guys had it damn good back in the day. Super Mario Land is actually pretty cool even if it wasn't the killer mario game that most nintendo systems get
Hey man your shorts slap hard! They always hit the nostalgia. I remember seeing the ads for SP back in the day and thought that was the most amazing system. Then the DS came out and that was the next best thing.
This reminds me of when I was a kid. i remember reading about the DS in a Nintendo Power magazine and told my friends about it. They didn't believe me until Nintendo started making ads. Then they all wanted one.
Mi primera consola portable fué una Nintendo DSi, en la que jugaba Plants Vs. Zombies, Sonic y un par de juegos más que no recuerdo, ahora soy feliz con mi Switch Oled.
The best use of the gba slot was when you got Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, get all the regional Pokémon listed in the dex, then you unlock more of the game including an area to import over Pokémon from the gba games to the ds game, those along gen 1,2, and 3 Pokémon on the ds.
I’ll never forget when I first saw the ds on a best buy shopping magazine in 2004. I swear I was looking into that magazine for hours. I couldn’t go to sleep that night and had school the next day. I was super excited about wanting the ds with mario 64. The fact that mario 64 had luigi and the others and portable? It was a dream come true and I needed that game. It was still October so I couldn’t get the game and system yet. From October till Christmas. That was the longest 3 months ever. I got the system and game on Christmas, but that one night in October will always be amazing.
This was definitely me in 2004. My brother's friend had an SP and would rub it in how much better it was than my lame og advance. I begged my parents to get me one, but they refused since I had one that was "good enough." I spent all my birthday and allowance money on an og DS when it came out and was so proud to show it off and finally be the one with the cooler device.
We had an electronics day at school and I was playing my Game Boy Advance and then I saw all the other kids playing a 3D transformers game on their DS’s and my mind was blown
I’m finally getting a 2ds and I’m so happy, even though I already have a switch, I feel like Nintendo consoles don’t really have personality anymore, and are just going for power, like there’s used to be a full interactive mini channel but now there’s just the mini settings, or how there’s just black and white, no Kirby, Mario, pokemon, or Zelda themes, also no more home/shop music any more.
I remember when I first saw them I was ecstatic. As a kid obsessed with my cousin’s gameboy color and advance I doodled ideas of a 3D handheld console without glasses. Then years later we get the 3ds. 😎
Ill NEVER forget being a kid and the year the DS came out for Christmas my brother asked for a DS but i asked for a "GameBoy Micro" thinking it was a new one to find out it was just a small GBA sp with detachable faceplates had to wait a YEAR for next xmas while qatching my dickhead brother bogart his DS 😂
Couldn't get one of these as a kid, although I do recall wanting a DS pretty bad. It was probably the 3ds or the 2ds though, given in 04 I would've been like 3 years old. Lol
That’s what the little port was for in the Ds? I thought it was just a little gap in the design, but you can actually play Gameboy games in it! Thank you for enlightening me, good sir
Honestly this makes me want to buy a ds in 2023. I remember having goldeneye 007 on mine. I wound up giving it away as well as a ton of my games to my younger cousin.
The hours I had with Mario Kart DS man it was so fun in parties and mario party DS too was fun to play at parties I remember every kid would bring their DS and since I was the one who had the game everyone would use DS download play
As iconic as the Gameboy advance was in both of its variants (or 3 variants if you count the ags 101 sp as it's own model) you can play literally everything it has on the ds, PLUS everything for the ds so it's a win win
The DS just made me mad because they said it was backwards compatible but didn't say you couldn't play original Gameboy games on it. So I still had to carry my GBA around.
Truthfully, I was a psp fan when the DS and PSP first came out. Though, I was a little older than their true target market for the DS. PSP had slightly more mature games *and* a fully functioning web browser - very important to a 12/13 year old.
My first console was the superboy that was basically a SNES but portable, not official but it counts. Technically makes me born to be a retro gamer, doesn't matter about my age really.
Man, if the original creator of Nintendo sees other people playing his game & watch in 1984 and then he time travels to our time and sees that Nintendo made another version of a game & watch
The gba sp is still the pest portable gaming device. Why It's small, fits in most pockets, lit screen, can play all games with gameboy on it, big enough that you can hold it well, clamshell design protects the screen, good library of games, actual buttons All other mobile gaming devices were or are too large, use too much battery, scratch easily, feel clunky or are unreasonably limited in compatibility The standart new 3ds is a close second place and then either the psp or ps vita but they basically hold themselves there because they are quite powerful at that smaller form factor
I think I'm gonna buy a ds lite off ebay or something soon. I do have a 3DS but there's something magical and nostalgic about the DS, and DS games look nicer on DS screens since 3DS screens have a slightly different aspect ratio
Keep the SP and wait until the DS Lite or DSi, buddy! Later, you may just replace that with a 2DS XL, so with two devices, you can cover five generations of Nintendo handhelds!
The ds was my first portable console and had Mario 64, that thing was awesome:)
Me to
I 100% agree
Mine was original DMG game boy with mario land and tetris
Same
Yup!!
I thought DS stood for “Device System” for far too long
Developer system
I always thought it was Digital simulation
I thought it was diginal system
@@mrcra2y166 same
It stands for dual screen and also for developer system

This sounded heart warming but my dumb gen Z brain couldn't understand a single word I'm to dumb sorry
I used to think it meant “Dream Station” when I was little
Lol, dreamcast
lol i used to think it stands for direct station
Lmao the Dreamcast that didn’t get left in the dust
Dreamcast + PlayStation = DreamStation
That sounds like something that a GameCube would be called by by Matt’s mom!
Ds was my first console and i stil love it
Same
Mine was a black ds lite
@@paradoxisheretohelp5067 mine was a green ds lite
Same but none was a ds light
Mine was a DSi
I love this guy, every video takes me to my childhood. I had a Sega master system, and an original Gameboy as my 1st systems
Nice! Mine was a NES and a PlayStation 1 gah life was so much simpler then

This is definitely how everyone reacted when their friend showed them the DS
I grew up with the game boy advance and I still have all my games and I still play it to this day
Kirby and the amazing mirror was all i ever needed growing up. Sonic battle too
I freaking remember very small fragments of a time in which i actually used that bottom slot thing to play games.
Played FF tactical advance on it until tactics advance 2 was aviable
I had a Bruce Lee style fighting game on it a long time ago…now I play a bunch of games on it like Mario, Pokémon, DOOM
Hey man your shorts slap hard! They always hit the nostalgia. I remember seeing the ads for SP back in the day and thought that was the most amazing system. Then the DS came out and that was the next best thing.
The way this man just raises his voice and yells is just perfect 🤣
I had that snes sp it was awesome
What? You mean GBA SP?
@@G0o0seProbably means the GBA SP. There is no such thing as a “SNES SP”
unless @WattsGemini323 is talking about a completely different console.
He means nes gba sp its the nes edtion of the gba sp

I’ve known for ever
It stands for “developers system”.

@@Pog_PacerBoth are actually correct, at least according to Wikipedia
The ds lite was my first portable console since 2015 and I still have it.

I remember coming down for Christmas and getting my first DS it was the DS light and it had a red top on it, it was beautiful
I had the mario edition ds light. To bad it broke in half
Bobby when he realizes that someone is making super Mario 64 for the GBA: where is that GBA?
The best use of the gba slot was when you got Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, get all the regional Pokémon listed in the dex, then you unlock more of the game including an area to import over Pokémon from the gba games to the ds game, those along gen 1,2, and 3 Pokémon on the ds.
My god i think you are onto something. Never realised it could be dual screen
I wish they had kept the Gameboy slot in the ds It was such an amazing feature that and pictochat

3DS : Does someone Say “Change” my Mind?
We had an electronics day at school and I was playing my Game Boy Advance and then I saw all the other kids playing a 3D transformers game on their DS’s and my mind was blown
Bro super Mario DS is goated in my eyes, it was so cool for a 8 year old who only played on plug-n-plays up until that point
Dude the DS was an awesome handheld. Blending of the old and new perfectly
Bobby: Too bad it can’t play original game boy games
Matt: touché
🤣🤣🤣 exactly
It does appear he has Changed his mind. Man, I remember the DS. I still have mine laying around somewhere, wonder if it works.
I remember when I first saw them I was ecstatic. As a kid obsessed with my cousin’s gameboy color and advance I doodled ideas of a 3D handheld console without glasses.
Then years later we get the 3ds. 😎
The ds was my intro to gaming, it’s a shame I lost mine years ago.
I was 12, life was so good back then.
Tho the DS and the rest of its family were amazing I just LOVE the game advanced sp, especially the limited nes version

DS and 3DS are the best handheld systems nintendo ever created. to me they did to nintendo what PS2 did to sony
Yeah to be able to play Mario 64 on a handheld was a revolution in itself.

Didnt reach the 3ds which is why i emulate it on a android phone. Now able to basically play gen 6 and up of pokemon finally since i stopped at gen 5.

I love backwards compatibility, I used to play Yellow version on my GBA
I’m dying to get an N64 for my birthday
I remember having the ds as a kid, one amazing system
This is exactly what happened with me and my cousins
One day in 2004
Says the one with a 2020 lego mario in the background
Can’t wait to get off the “Dual Screens” and onto my “Three Dual Screens” 💀💀
Honestly this makes me want to buy a ds in 2023. I remember having goldeneye 007 on mine. I wound up giving it away as well as a ton of my games to my younger cousin.
The ds was awesome! Pen touch screen dual speaker (I think just 2) plays the ds games AND gba games. It was just a master piece!
this video comes up the day i find a gameboy color, i know its not an sp but i’m definitely buying one soon.
I miss my Nintendo DS'S I had every single version of the ds
“Is that a portable version of Mario 64?!”
“It sure is”
*Want intensifies*
The hours I had with Mario Kart DS man it was so fun in parties and mario party DS too was fun to play at parties I remember every kid would bring their DS and since I was the one who had the game everyone would use DS download play
That 64 remake took the cake
Only just now after an entire childhood of owning a Ds and a Dsi did i find out “ Ds” stands for “Dual screen”
I love how you are yoshi instead of Mario 😂
I remember getting the light as a kid
At the School
Me: what does nintendo ds means?
Teacher: ds means dual screen
Me: i knew that
2004 was rough year for me. I managed to get a DSi in 2017.
I never had a DS- even now I still want one.
Omg the nostalgia I played mario 64 last yr and I had a lot of fun
My first game ever was that Game.
Ds was my stuff back when i was young, still play it a bit though

I had the 3DS and I have very fond memories of it
I remember having a 3DS XL and loved it... until it snapped in half one day 😔
Now I got New 2DS
Actually its developer system, as it allowed third party games and lots of innovation in game development

The DS was incredible, all your GB and GBA games, backlight plus good battery life, awesome 3d games, wireless connectivity 🤯
DS originally stood for Developer System according to Nintendo. (seriously)
My first console was the superboy that was basically a SNES but portable, not official but it counts. Technically makes me born to be a retro gamer, doesn't matter about my age really.
No one ever thought the SP was better, we were just kids with no money.
I love both both, but still the gba is my favorite

I bought the sp.
then the ds came out.
I didn’t play Nintendo again until the switch.
I just found a game boy advanced today! But sadly no dvds :(

DS made many remakes and ports especially the Front Mission 1.
