  • Yes, this is a longer video and sorry if you tune out but I wanted to make this for you ladies who have Incompetent Cervix. I have had two cerclage experiences. One was an emergent McDonald Cerclage. The other was a preventative McDonald cerclage. The two pregnancies were VERY different. My cerclage experience was VERY different.

I found out I have an incompetent cervix with my first and only child when I was 21 weeks and got an emergency cerclage placed at 22 weeks... It only helped me out until 28 weeks but I was grateful for those weeks it did help me!! My daughter was born in April of 2018 and stayed in NICU for 61 days, and she is the best baby ever! I share this to say even when things may seem like they are going left trust in God that there will be light at the end of the tunnel. Us women are AMAZING.

Thank you for posting this! I go in Monday for a preventative cerclage. I had an in depth leep procedure a few years ago, so my doctor wants to do a preventative cerclage due to my shortened cervix. This is my first pregnancy so this is all new to me. Your videos have been so helpful!

Thank you so much for sharing your story. God bless you and your family! I had my first baby back in 2005 at 27 weeks...our stories were very similar with our first pregnancy as I didn't know anything was wrong until oh your cervix is opening, but for me it was too late and dangerous for the emergency cerclage. I was terrified. I held my son in preterm labor at a hospital 2 hours away for 16 days! And he was born at 2 lbs 7 oz...that was a long and scary journey that turned out well because my son survived and he will be 16 this summer! Praise God! Well unexpectedly I am pregnant again and knew I wanted a cerclage and am scheduled to get mine at 13 weeks this upcoming Tuesday. Hoping you read this and truly just wanted to ask if you would pray for me and my baby. I am nervous, but have faith that God will see me through as He did the last time around. You are so awesome for offering to pray for women in this video, it truly touched my heart. And your information made me hopeful that I will be a Mom of two as well💖 Thank you so much for being you!

So glad i found your channel. I recently lost my daughter to IC at 16 weeks. It was a total and complete surprise to us bc i didnt have any contractions. When Bethpage came out, she was still in her sac...she was perfect.

I purposely looked for your video to share how your story helped me. I learned at 20 weeks I was dilating. The next day I was given emergent cerclage and placed on bed rest. I watched all, I mean everyone of your videos to gain hope. I was scared out of my mind! Each doctor visit, I felt defeated.... but I'll watch your video and felt better. Tha I you so much for sharing your story!! I just had to have an emergent cerclage at 21wks, and I was terrified and felt betrayed by my body. I hadn’t had any contractions or any sign that I was dilated. Luckily my OB thought she saw some funneling on my anatomy scan and I got in with the high risk doctors the same week!! The high risk doctor got me in for surgery the morning after she saw me! It is so good to hear your story, as J am still terrified I won’t make it to term. Also knowing if we want to have anymore children I will need this done again it is nice to hear how different your experiences were!!

I just lost my baby boy at 22weeks due to incompetent cervix. I had mild symptoms I chalked up to Braxton Hicks and low back pain I thought was just due to shift in gravity. Less than 12 hours later I was increasingly uncomfortable and left work for an ultrasound. I was 2cm dilated and cervix was 1.75. We went straight to the hospital and my water broke almost immediately and I gave birth within the hour. It is the worst experience I have ever gone through and continue to go through. Videos like yours help me not to lose hope for the next time. We suffered from infertility so this felt like an extra kick in the gut. Luckily we are with one of the best practices in the northeast and already seeing a MFM to plan and prepare for next time. I thank you so much for sharing your story.

I watched this video a year ago when I lost my son at 22 weeks. I had an emergency cerclage with him at 19.5 weeks but it failed and our baby boy was born with wings. The ob told us next time we’d get a preventative cerclage and that way we’d never have to go through that pain again. I found this video after loosing him and learning about preventative cerclages and it gave me so much hope to hear your story. We had conceived our son Valentine’s Day last year and then we ended up conceiving our rainbow baby girl the week after Valentine’s Day this year. We felt this was our son sending us our rainbow and we were so excited. I got the preventative cerclage placed at 11.4 weeks in April and everything went perfect after that. Then at 16 weeks I asked if we could get the 17p (Makena) shots you help make sure I didn’t have any issues contracting too early. I got the first shot may 18th I started contracting immediately after that shot.... we lost our sweet baby girl may 31st at 18.3 weeks just shy of 2 weeks after starting the shot. I’m lost right now everyone said a preventative cerclage would have gotten us our rainbow and now here I am having lost 2 Angels not even a year apart. I’m a wreck, people are telling me I can get a TAC next time and that’ll do it but all I keep thinking is they said that about the cerclage. I’m so broken and so lost

Thank you so much for sharing you experiences. This is my first pregnancy and I learned at my 18 week fetal anatomy scan that I had a very short cervix (this past Tuesday). Yesterday, on Wednesday, I went into my OB for a follow up and got the terrible news that I was 1 cm dilated. Luckily I was able to get scheduled at another hospital with one of the best surgeons in the county. I had my cerclage put in last night and the procedure went so well. I had minor pain and took just one tylenol and zero bleeding. I am praying so so hard that my baby boy stays in till June. These next two weeks will be filled with anxiety and worrisome, but at the same time hope. I’m so happy to have decided on the cerclage procedure because waiting for the progesterone suppositories seemed too risky. Again, thank you so much for this video. You have given me so much more hope and I pray that these next two weeks to be in “the safe zone” that God continues to bless me in carrying my precious miracle. Thank you thank you

I found out I had cervical incompetence at 17wks. Everything happened so fast from heavy cramping to extreme bleeding and blood clots. I knew what was happening but I didn't know why so I went to the hospital. It was so scary. (Being in the 2nd trimester I thought I was safe from miscarriage.) My baby boy didn't make it as my water broke and they saw that his arm was already sticking out of my cervix. I'm pregnant again this time at 11 weeks and coming in with this knowledge of my condition, I'd like to get a preventative cerclage.

So glad to hear your little one made it with the emergency one all I’ve been able to find is success story’s when people get the I guess it’s called preventative cerclage but none like the one I had where it’s an emergency. I’d been having having contractions for a month or 2 but my ob kept ignoring me saying I was fine and wouldn’t bring me in to check me. Then out of nowhere I lost my mucus plug, not even 24 hours later I went to the er and I was dilating! They sent me home I was lost and had no clue what to do but I felt something was seriously wrong so I decided to check myself and good thing I did cause I found out my water sac was having out of my cervix I called my ob they wouldn’t listen so I called a high risk ob that another ob I spoke to said I needed to get sent up to and 5 minutes after leaving them a message I got a call back from my ob saying I needed to get there ASAP. They took one look and called an ambulance to transfer me to hospital next door then flight lifted me to this states top ob hospital. When I got there they said I needed a cerclage but couldn’t get one till I stopped contracting and if I had an infection and even if they could operator there was only a 10% chance they could do it without accidentally breaking my water. They kept me over night to monitor me and then the Next morning not only had I stopped contracting but my water sac had gone back up in me so they did the surgery and it was a success. Unfortunately I continued to contract after the surgery and I’m still contracting and as you know that’s a very dangerous thing to happen cause your cervix can rip. It all happened when I was 19 weeks and I’m now 20 weeks and 3 days and praying my contractions stop so i can carry him long enough for him to survive

My older sister recently just lost her baby at 17wk. She had ivf done in another country and its such roller coaster for her. Just weeksbefore her miscarriage, i talk to her about getting a cerclage because she kept bleeding here and there with her shortening cervix. Her dr said that he doesnt think she needs it because its can be uncomfortable. And that she thinks because her cervix is closing thats why he didnt do it. But Tbh with you i just feel like i am blaming myself so much right now because i feel that the procedure can probably save her baby. Watching your videos gives me lots of hope. I just teared up because of how much us women have to go through. Motherhood is hard and rewarding as i do have a lil girl of my own. I just really wish my sis get to experience that also. I went in at my 21 week with a shortened cervix and got put on progesterone and was told to come every Friday for 4 weeks. My second week my doctor said I was stable and keep taking the medication , 2 days later I was in the hositpal with bad cramping and discharge and I was 80% effaced almost 2cm dilated and had an emergency cerclage. I’m not 27 weeks 5 days and went in today with cramping and discharge and I’m 1 cm dilated again and my cervix is opening and the cerclage is still in place ! They gave me a shot for the babies lungs bevause they think
I’m working towards preterm labor but I’m so lost why they didn’t remove the stitches then . Like what happens if they rip ?? I’m terrified . They never said what this discharge is they ran bunch of swabs on me and everything was negative . But never said what this discharge is. I’m lost and lowkey terrified because this whole pregnancy has been wild

My last pregnancy I had a emergency cerclage at roughly 20 weeks with 1cm of cervix left. I'm now pregnant again with #2 and will have to have a preventative cerclage placed. My biggest worry is that I'd have to go on bedrest and not have a normal pregnancy :/ Your videos help me tremendously :)

Currently with my second I’m 16 weeks, originally my dr told me 12weeks we would do the cerclage, but they postponed it to see if we were approved for progesterone shots..I’m kind of nervous cause now the surgeon wants to do it this Friday 😰 I am 16 weeks, is it too late? ... Hi Joelle, thanks for sharing your stories. I have just had my cervix cerlage 2 days ago at week 21 pregnancy and 1cm. I’m really hoping and praying my baby can stay until week 37 at least. Can you share how many hours did you stay on bed, what daily activities you did, and did you do something to avoid blood clot ( if you knew)? I was looking for the facebook page you shared in one of the video but could not find it. Thanks Joelle.

siri k hey Siri, my regret was not staying on bed after 28 weeks ( I was staying in hospital since week 21 and got discharged at week 28, here Drs and Nurses kept telling me to take walks etc.. ) and ended up gave birth at week 30 ( Baby then born at week 30 with many complications: Bleeding in brain, infections etc... had to undergo with Brain Surgery to put a Reservoir inside the head). He had to stay in Nicu for 2.5 months. Being born early it is very difficult to raise, weak at many things : weak muscles , weak sucks and swallowing etc.. even now 5 months of real age every week we go to hospital twice ... Depends on your situations if you don’t have worries with blood clots , staying on bed I believe will help a lot. When I was talking walks I felt pain but they said don’t worry, if I knew I would have staying on bed. How important to give baby a full term stay in our belly!

siri k having twins even harder. Try not to do housework as you won’t know how much is too much. ..Ah they gave me a shot every day on the leg to prevent blood clot. How many weeks are you now? By 26 weeks should be able to feel their moves. I was lucky to save my baby due to mother instincts. H e did not move at all previous day, I went to labour without labour signals and had emergency c section, it was so tearing up see him go through so much, i had no rest days at all , walking next day with unhealed wound....Make sure if you feel not right then need to go to hospital.. You need to take care of yourself and trust your guts sometimes. Also need to stay positive so the babies feel same . Ill pray for you tonight Siri! Good luck and all the best.

Ive always been curious with other surgeries in that area they can give a local anesthetic to numb the area but to remove the stitch they take you in for surgery. Did they say to you why they went this way?
Still scared 8 years on and im the husband!! Dont know how my wife forgets about it.

    • @joactive
      @joactive  5 лет назад

For placement of my cerclages and for the removal of one they used the spinal anesthetic for all three of them. All 3 were done in an operating room. With cerclages there are a lot of factors that can go wrong and with the placement of the cervix local anestsia would not be effective because after this type of procedure even the uterus is irritated so I think (this is just my thought) that a local just on the cervix would not be enough to make the procedure tolerable.
