Iommi & Ozzy get much deserved credit. However, it was Geezer Butler who played Bass, like a lead guitar, and wrote most of the lyrics. Bill Ward laid the perfect foundation. Bill also stayed loyal to the original lineup. However, the other original band members didn't stay loyal to him, and that's something that I, and many other fans will never understand.
When Dio joined the band, it became a different band altogether. The decision to call it Black Sabbath would have been a record company decision, same for the Seventh Star lineup. The original Sabbath were the epitome of heavy metal.
Okay, now this is just a personal opinion. I just can't understand how Ozzy got so much credit in Black Sabbath. It was Tony who kept the band going, and had the most talent and kept things afloat. Many of the singers Sabbath had after Ozzy left had much more talent. If it wasn't for Sharron, Ozzy would have died a long time ago.
One thing people dont understand ( i.e Ozzy would be noone if it werent for Geezer Butler or Bob Daisley writing lyrics for him etc.... ) what people fail to understand is his purely unique voice that fit the music perfectly. No one can replicate Ozzys voice and thats what brought attention to the lyric writers. Ozzy has talent in creating melodies and everyone who has ever worked with him credit him for that. Also, Ozzy wrote many songs I.e Wicked World, The Writ, etc...) Listen to the podcast Diary of the Madmen and youll see why Ozzy is so great
I think it's charisma...some people have, apparently, less talent than others, but they have this gift that attracts people...and charisma is something you can't buy or learn.. it's something you're born with...
Black Sabbath were never the same band without Ozzy as their lead vocalist. Sure, while both Dio & Gillian were great singers, They never really fit The Band. God knows why Randy Rhoades suddenly became The Greatest Teenagers guitar hero during His early solo career?? His solo career, as what became of Black Sabbath, after They kicked him out were never the same. Never Say Die.. however it did after that album.....
I do not understand Randy Rhodes getting so much attention, considering he was gonna quit to get a degree, and play classical. I didn’t like Dee…it was an odd song for that album, however he did have some good riff and soloing, and live his tone was pretty good. His double tracking? I cannot stand it. Was it 3 albums he did with Quiet Riot? No matter how many, when he was in that band…they didn’t hit, except in Japan. Randy leaves, and Quiet Riot goes to the top. Randy had a weird look when he wore those baby blue polka dot bow ties, I just didn’t get it. Sure, all rock stars wore some stuff that at the time was cool. I just find myself looking back and wondering why he got god like attention, where Eddie Van Halen was also brought up playing classical and jazz, and his patterns and playing style on those first 6 albums especially to me made Randy feel just like he did when he watched them live in the bar days, where she said Randy was feeling pretty down on himself. Now Ozzy, I agree Black Sabbath was a raw band, and powerful and Ozzy’s unique voice helped to make them. On his own, I liked Jake E Lee, he was my favourite Ozzy solo guitarist. Bill Ward, and Geezer Butler, and Tony Iommi were so powerful as a band, and Ozzy was integral to their success! Rock on!
@Kinger1625 I agree with your opinions regarding Randy, although, he will always be a hero with teenagers taking up The Instrument. No, it was only two Quiet Riot albums that he played on.....

I'm pretty sure it's Iommi, not Lommi
Tommy Lommi and Ozzy Losbourne

I met Ozzy in 2002. He is an arrogant, no-talented creep

Okay dumbass if anybody coulda been Ozzy anybody woulda been Ozzy! Maybe your momma is a better singer than Janis!

That's funny, I never heard a word from Tony. When you sell your soul to the Devil, life of course will not be pleasant.
