      @@krystiangorski6201 I like Cantrell but are we being for real right now? Eddie’s voice is way more dynamic and original than Jerry’s. Jerry has a GREAT voice to go with Layne’s, and they were a match made in Heaven for each other. But there’s a reason Jerry never fronted a band, because he wasn’t a standalone singer. Again, I love Jerry! AiC wouldn’t be the same without him. But he’s a better guitarist than vocalist, and Eddie easily surpasses him, vocally, in my book.

    Kurt was definitely unique and a great artist, but for Billy just to flat out say he was the most talented guy of their generation when he was against guys like Chris Cornell and Layne Stayley is just baffling. Kurt was awesome, but compared to Layne and Chris, there's not contest in terms of talent. Yes, I understand that music taste is of course subjective, and Nirvana were definitely the biggest band at the time, but if were talking strictly talent, Chris and Layne are on another level, and it's not just in terms of artists at the time, but in terms of artists throughout all time.

But we're talking about Chris Cornell and Layne Stayley here. Who are both leagues ahead of basically anyone in terms of strictly vocals. Hence why I mentioned them. Not to say Eddie isn't a good vocalist cause he definitely is, just not Chris and Layne level (in terms of range and power at least) as of course, who you like better is completely up to your tastes.

      @@Silas_Olveda that’s fair. Layne and Chris are in my top 3 but Eddie’s my #1. I feel like he had the most energy out of the grunge scene. Not to be confused with power, I feel like Eddie embodied what “rock music” is. I’m obviously talking 90s Eddie, not current. Now that you’ve clarified you were speaking in terms of power and range, rather than songwriting/energy, I can see why you didn’t mention him.
      Layne was my #1 until I saw Eddie’s live MTV Unplugged version of “Black”. That, to me, is the greatest performance of a song that I’ve seen. Obviously Layne was a FREAK when it comes to power, dude could hit some pretty crazy notes in his chest voice, and was a master of vocal projection. Chris, on the other hand, was the most technically sound singer of the 90s, imo. I’m not positive that he was vocally trained but his frequent use of “mixed voice” is what leads me to believe he spent a lot of time working on his technique, where guys like Layne and Kurt were just using their emotion to sing.

    Kurt probably pushed Bill at the extreme artistically he as no way to do Mellon Collie to get attention when the competition was hard...
    If Kurt was still alive we would had probably most good albums from both bands...as sometime competition and rivalities push creativity to his high level...
    What I like with Bill is he went to explore a very different way into his own way and never try to copy Kurt....he knew that he was the best at what was doing and have to found something else to get attention on him...not like this other pseudo post grunge band that try to rip off this sound and style .....Bill has this own personal view on music very different of Kurt...

    Well I’m going to have to strongly disagree in his proclamation. Chilli Peppers, AIC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Mark Lanegan, STP, Local H and I’m sure there are a few more that I would rank far above Smashing Pumpkins.

    The real geniuses are always walking on the edge of what we view as sanity. But the wrong drugs, driven by his being crippled by chronic pain, made Cobain go quickly. He left behind a pretty small catalog. The main reason he would not be in the same category of a Lennon in my opinion, or even Billy.
    His cultural impact was huge, but what was the positive side? Teenage mental health has gone downhill ever since and suicide rates are too high.
    I suppose he was a role model for the disaffected but he was widely accepted well before he died.

    I don’t think he truly believes what he’s saying here. He understands that comparing himself to someone who is dead and become an idol would just make him sound like a buffoon so he’s being falsely humble to make a good impression after all.

    • @Phillip713
      @Phillip713 7 месяцев назад +1

      But what he is saying is so ridiculous. Kurt had a few good songs. He happened to release his album right before the alternative rock floodgates would open. So that’s something. But his actual music isn’t that great.

    • @JeremyGray-jg4db
      @JeremyGray-jg4db 4 месяца назад

      His timing exactly Kurt was more of an all-around artist not just rock and roll but he definitely captured the zeitgeist where as everyone else still had access to the same inspirations and other bands music Kurt was the one who took them all down as Tom Petty described like a sheath whacking the wheat in reference to what Kurt Cobain's teen Spirit did to Spandex and hairspray & GnR

    I'm always torn on Billy... He gave us some fantastic music - some of my favorite, actually - and is clearly a very intelligent guy, but that whole "me vs everyone else" mentality along with his over-eagerness to belittle just about anyone (without prompting, even) will stain his legacy.
