Chris, Your video is the best introductory video to Studio One, and i have watched a number of videos. Your pace, your subject matter, your “digestible” way of imparting knowledge. !! THANK YOU !
After going through countless “tutorials” where people turn 50 knobs, I found this one that made it finally work for me. I was about to give up but thanks to you I could record my first song.
Subbed!! What a refreshing change from so many yt videos where the creator tries to demonstrate a basic concept but then pulls up a project containing dozens of tracks and skips from channel to channel too quickly while I'm trying to keep a bead on what's actually happening. In contrast , your video starts with a blank sheet and records arguably the bare minimum number of tracks before going on to mix them. Thank you!
Truly amazing! Thanks for your knowledge. Clear, precise and truly simplified. Just purchased presonus interface with studio one. I’ll be figuring it out today with help of your videos. Thank you 🤙🏼
All I wanted to learn was how to record a simple track and play back. Why go through all the mix and reverb on a simple intro video. Take me back to basics. thanks!
Love Studio One. Good video. Found out everything I learned from my brother put me pretty far ahead on the recording level. Great to know about the limiter also. Since he had a kid haven't been able to continue our apprenticeship
Thank you, been struggling. So many of the other videos on recording with presonus are from guys that have lots of experience with other programs so it’s just so natural to them they don’t teach the basics
@@heychrisgreen I am moving all my recording and music stuff today into a new (not so great) space this morning watched the rock song one and think I learned the few things I couldn’t figure out before. God bless brotha thanks again
Can you please list ir write down the steps of what and how you did what you did at the end of the video where everything was fast forwarded? it would be a great help!
i found your video while looking for the cost to upgrade from 5 to 6.5. you’d think there’d be a shiny button on the site that directs a person to the different upgrade options but in studio one fashion i have all the options to repurchase the latest version at full price.. with that said i like your instruction style. you seem very comfortable and are straight forward with the info. keep it up! instant sub.
Just the kind of introductory tutorial I, a total newbie to recording stuff myself, was looking for, keeping it simple without presets is just what I want to do. Thank you so much for this great step by step tutorial, especially for not rushing through the steps, so it's possible to keep up. I'll subscribe hoping for more great tutorials to help me become a bit more proficient in recording my own songs. Btw, I have the Shure SM7B also and a Focusrite 212, what was the Cloud device needed to boost the Shure? How is that set up, does it go between the mic and the Focusrite? Many thanks! I'd also be interested in how to create click tracks for the stage and I've been wondering how that works to hear the clicks in your ears but not through the PA system. Could you point me in the direction of a helpful video for that as well please?
I just wanted to offer a tip to any new recording enthusiasts out there, and that is to buy a pair of Closed Back headphones. After years of using the old standard AKG 240, you realize this is where it's at. There are many good brands to choose from, but these Sony MDR-7506 do the trick for me.
Hi, is there a way to enhance the visibility of the active channel with an even brighter color compared to the others? My aim is to make it effortless to distinguish the channel that's currently playing at all times. I wish Studio One could outline or highlight a feature for the active channel in the edit window. This could extend to its channel mix layout on the left side. Such an addition would greatly enhance the user experience. For easier distinction, the channel should be outlined in a distinctive shape, frame, or continuous brighter shade color.
Also, I learned was the video is good now you got to write down the instructions step-by-step for your own personal use. I’ll learn that by going to personal seminars or business seminars and you have to write down the instructions step-by-step for set up miking, or record from record to mixing as well as steps for adding effects and also steps to mix down from example 24 down to two track and using the bus systems as well.
Forget about sample rates. You can’t go wrong with 48k. 96 can bog down your system once you get towards the end with many tracks and plugins. File sizes will also be bigger.
Great video. I have an audiobox usb 96 with an AKG P420 microphone. It seems like Studio One won't recognize my mic. I have it plugged into slot 1 on the audiobox. Any thoughts? Thank you
Hi! Have you turned on Phantom Power? There’s a button on the front of your interface that will supply that mic with power (48v) If that doesn’t work try a different cable and also go into your studio one settings to make sure under Audio Device you have the Audiobox 96 selected for input and device output
Chris, thanks so much for your informative video! Your singing voice is also very pleasant and you play guitar beautifully. I just have one question. In setup, I'm not able to switch the sample rate to 48kHz as you suggested. Its default is 44.1 and there's no way to change it. Can you please help me with this? Thanks so much!
Thanks! For your sample rate are you using an external audio interface? Make sure the interface is plugged in, you might have to create a session before it will let you change the sample rate. If you’re using an audio interface let me know what kind because they also have their own software controlled sample rates to them 🤔 also windows or Mac?
Hi Cris. Thanks for your quick reply! I have a presonus audio box and I'm using a Mac with m3 chip. I tried reopening it but it still doesn't let me choose the sample rate. Grrr!
Very good! Make sure on your Mac settings under Sound that the Audiobox is listed as the recording and playback device. When you create a new song in Studio One it will ask you to give your song a name, below that is the folder destination, and below that is usually the dropdown menu for changing the sample rate.. sometimes it does not let you change the sample rate on the Home Screen of studio one. Make sure your Audiobox is selected as the audio device. Here’s a video I recently did on the Audiobox.. Hope it helps 🙏 Get Up and Running with Your Presonus USB Audio Interface: Step-by-Step Setup ruclips.net/video/7XLiYuLHh3E/видео.html
Hi Chris. Thanks for the new video on audio interface. I noticed when watching it that your hhtz is also 44.1 like mine. Maybe it doesn't need to be changed to 48? Hmm. I can't get it to change anyway even though I do have my audio box set to both recording and playback. I love your videos and wanted to ask if you could make a video explaining all the knobs on the presonus audio interface. My mixer knob makes my voice inaudible when it turn it all the way the left. Not sure where I'm supposed to set all the knobs. Thanks again for all your work in helping untechy people learn how to record! @@heychrisgreen
Hi Chris. I found the area where I can change the kHz. to 48.0. I have to select new song first and its under "record and mix." thanks for you help! @@heychrisgreen
Hmm.. I’m thinking you’re referring to the Mix Tool plugin? On any track there should be a plus icon ➕ Click the ➕ and look for the Presonus folder.. Mix Tool is a built in plugin with Studio One. The main use is the Gain knob as well as a phase invert button. Hope that helps!

Hi! The software is Presonus Studio One, the Artist and Professional versions come loaded with plugins ready to use. The plugins I used in this video are the EQ Room Reverb, and Limiter plugins that come standard with Presonus
How much does your audio interface cost? Are the preamps any good? I have an audio interface but the preamps are not as good and there's loads of hissing even when I set the gain as low as possible.
I currently use the RME Babyface Pro FS. It is by far my favorite interface, very clean. In several videos I’m using the UAD Apollo. It’s pretty good, more useful for the UAD plugins. If you have a Presonus audio interface I wouldn’t purchase any other interface under that $500 point. A lot of the Scarlett, Audient, and Presonus interfaces have similar issues at those prices. The RME is about $700-$800 used. Hope that helps! Grab yourself a Cloud Lifter if you can give it 48v phantom power it will get you +10db of clean gain (only for dynamic mics)
Try setting up an “FX Track” on your mix in Studio One and place your reverb there. If I had to guess, you might want to check out the Dry/Wet knob on the reverb plugin or the Mix knob. The more natural sounding reverbs will only be about 2.4 seconds in length, give them a short pre-delay, and make sure the mix knob is around 15%
I’ll have to check on the limitations of Prime again but I don’t believe they lock you out of using a keyboard like that.. check out this video if it is connected via usb or midi: How to Get Started Recording with Midi Keyboards in Presonus Studio One ruclips.net/video/ujRVbAHqGB4/видео.html

how do I make the metronome into my headphones only? It’s playing on my computer and the microphone is picking it up, But if I record without it the tempo is so off
Great question! There’s a complicated way to do this where you need to create a separate output in the Song Setup menu so that you can separate your headphones from your speakers.. I never do it this way because I just prefer to hear my headphones and monitors with the same mix.. The easy way is to mute your speakers (either with your audio interface or physically turn them off) while recording.. then when you’re done recording with headphones you would unmute or power on your speakers.. I’ve got a video on my channel all about the Click Track in Studio One, you can also check out Joe Gilder on RUclips he has a whole mess of videos that will help you as well

I don’t have my headphones on but there’s definitely some reverb being added.. I would create an FX track (right click your voice over track then select “Add FX track”) Then on your FX track load the Room Reverb plugin from Presonus.. you can shuffle through the presets til you find something you like… he’s got a lot of pre-delay and around a 6-8 second decay.. nothing crazy!
@@heychrisgreen THANK YOU!! I will try what you suggest. I figured S! probably had the options for this effect (and lots more) but didn't even know where to look. I really appreciate you taking the time for that explanatory answer!
Yeah, I'm trying so hard to get help on learning as a brand new user, spent hours researching. It must be like staring at frickin hieroglyphics to people who have never seen this before lol. I took a college course on protools and let me tell you - luckily you stumbled upon this DAW. StudioOne is so SO user friendly once you learn what does what. Create a song, pick a tempo, create a track, arm the track, hit record. Spend time learning the hot keys as well - makes everything easier.
I bought, set it up, got frustrated and stored away in the cupboard. I accept that im not too bright with this stuff but there must be a guitarists user friendly version.

@gordon9177 I think it's a great tool if you know how to work it. I haven't given up yet. I'm trying tidsy in fact, I understand it a bit better after trying bandlab. I'm going to persevere.
I accept that im not too bright with this stuff but there must be a guitarists user friendly version.
well,,,, you totally ruined it by playing a totally different song while you were mixing. Very unhelpful!
