At first I was confused about the nature of their relationship, but then I realized it's just an example of a sprouting kismesitude - two rivals who can't live without each other
@@superanimeniac I really wouldn't call her part happy. She was traumatized ,anxious, tried to let things go,desperately trying to return to her old life in hopes things will just go back to normal and then torn apart by her hatred and anger towards him. None of that is happy .-.
"You poked my eye, I wear a patch, I should have given you one to match" "Did you forget, you got me back, you cut my thumb off with an axe" Wow you really planned ahead here didn't you?
So they've finally realized that while they're both broken, messed up, and cursed, they aren't alone in it, and the fact that they aren't alone in it all makes them feel better. That's a nice end for the season. Them just agreeing to exist together because they're both fucked up in their own ways
I know this is cute because they decided to coexist after all but DUKE TRIED TO RAPE MISSI IN THE FIRST EPISODE! WTF! It doesnt matter if they are both fucked up in their own ways, getting along whit someone who tried to rape you is so messed up!
@@paulagarciarubio6310 i feel like needing to point out that he didnt initiate that, SHE did. we dont know what he might have done, but she did try to sexually entice him. So at least in his mind he wasnt at the time forcing himself upon her in that manner.
@@paulagarciarubio6310 He didn't, he only tried to have sex with Missi when she expressed interest in doing it, if you watch it again you'll see he only danced with her until she showed interest in doing more close to the end. Also, I think Daria confirmed he never would've done that if Missi didn't make him think she wanted to, he may be evil but not a rapist
I honestly really like how this puts a nicer bow on Missi's situation. In the beginning, she was shown to be nothing more than a victim, but then we see how vengeful she actually is and that she's really capable of some serious hatred. She literally brings Duke back to life just to torment him, and then even after showing terror over the wand's influence over her, she goes back to it and embraces its power because of her hatred for Duke. She literally abandons her entire life and the people who care about her for revenge. It honestly makes you wonder what kind of life she had before this, because that amount of hate just isn't normal. I imagine it's been brewing under the surface for a LONG time, and it's thanks to Duke that it's all just come exploding out. It might've been better that she is where she is now, because imagine what kind of harm she'd bring to other people once that anger bubbles over. We know she's still herself and the wand has no control over her because of all the books, the cat magazines etc, but now she's just able to be bratty and snarky, and gets violent with Duke because she knows he can take it. THIS is Missy's true self, and she knows it's not going to be accepted by normal society. So, she lets go of the idea of revenge over Duke and insteads finds comfort in that he's also an outcast and isn't accepted by normal society.
Yes another person that be analyzing everything. I be rewatching to now compared to the new videos after these. And love the extra bits I can now Pull from thier characters. And just how much hatred is a focus point for all the characters.
i find it funny how this series went from "girl gets chased by a vampire for trying to read twilight in his manor" too "a sitcom about two vampires who hate each other yet still tolerate each other enough to live to together"
The part that kills me every time is when Missi breaks out the flamethrower... Beautifully done, and I can't help rewatching this series over and over again.
@TheTypomouse Is it just me or she had that flamethrower prepared and stashed somewhere? I mean its weird that its the only time we got to usage of firearms in the series
@@HuntDownErebus I think it’s actually the cane. If you pause it and look carefully, you can see the bat piece opened. So the staff doubles as a flame thrower

I don’t know about others. But I listened to Voltaire’s music after I found this series, right before the second episode was posted. I watched the latest episode and was like wait a minute. The lyrics for Stuck with you mention losing an eye and having to wear an eye patch and the guy having his thumb cut off with an axe. Too coincidental to not be connected to the song. Also, the cat part must be her familiar 🤔
So, after the new episode, I decided to re-watch the series, and I think I got something a lot of people seem to be missing. Like most, I felt like there was something missing from the hate to love going on between episode 6 and 7, but I don't think they necessarily love each other, or their "vows" are literal vows to be together at this point. Everything going on in this series is a lot more symbolic/subtle, and that's kind of the limitations you have when you're trying to do this format of storytelling. Still think Daria's nailing it, though. After resurrection, Missi had the choice to go home, but she didn't. Instead she chose the power of the cane, partly I think fueled by her hate for Duke, and partly because of the sheer power the cane allows her. Despite it consuming her mind and making her go crazy, which seems to have only truly manifested itself when she's all alone in the silence, she's not willing to let go of that power. Then the showdown happens, where it seems they more or less just want to one up and toy with the other. Then Duke tries to poison her, she refuses the drink by literally kicking the tray from his hands, and they start actually fighting. In the end, they end up in a tie, both wounded and stunned by how far their feud had gone, as well as a little guilty. Because it ended in a tie, and emotions have understandably simmered down, Duke is allowed back in the house, but Missi still won't leave, because she refuses to let go of that cane. Missi's "vow", her "I do" is to that cane and how she doesn't want to let go of it's power. For whatever reason we don't know yet, she'd rather be a Vampire via the cane, and continue to stake claim on the house, than go home. Duke's "vow"/"I do" is a little more nuanced. It was technically his fault Missi is still there, and he was also the one who proposed the showdown and threw the first hit. It's technically (though not completely; Missi has a lot of the fault too) his fault they're in this mess. So, they stay in the house together, continue to fight and bicker while also trying to live together, or at least co-exist, and things stay like that for a while. In the end, though, they're both lonely. At the end of the episode 7, it's not so much them having fallen in love I don't think (though it may be going in that direction), but more realizing that they're in the same boat now (more or less), and at the very least, they have each other. And after seeing Duke's backstory in season 2, I think we're all starting to realize they may have more in common than we realized, each living out a fantasy.
I've actually thought about this too, but the thought of the possibility that Missi and Duke are bounded in some way, because they say "until death do us part" so maybe the staff has a lot more power than they can control
That and immortals have a lot of time to work out their issues and sometimes just being around someone for long enough can make you catch feelings. A comparison I can make is between Ram and Roswaal from Re:Zero, despite everything Roswaal did and was doing Ram realizes she's grown attached and actually loves Roswaal. If they had normal human lifespans, I think the hatred would never lead to this, but if you're around someone for hundreds of years... bitterness and resentment has time to fade and replace with new, more positive memories with your enemy. Especially if your enemy will live forever like you.
Went to a Voltaire show last night. He talked about the great work you've done. He said that even though his songs were released years before your videos, looking at how popular your videos are compared to his, he feels like in some ways you're more successful than him, and he's super happy for you. He wanted to sing Stuck With You, but he didn't have anybody to sing Amanda Palmer's part. So he sang The Night, since you're the main reason that song has shot up in popularity in recent years.
Really? I always wondered if he watched these. I suppose its hard not to discover a fan animation of your own song, not only that, but with a character that subtly resembles him.
@@dreamercreations2499 I'm pretty sure the only person who's known about the videos longer than Voltaire is Daria herself. She reached out to him before she started working on the first video and asked for permission to use The Night. And Voltaire said, "Absolutely. Feel free to use my music, and don't worry about the royalties." Or something to that effect. Because he's awesome like that.

“you took my eye I wear a patch” “you got me back, you chopped my thumb off with an axe” I see you had the showdown AND the finale planned out WELL in advance
Now I’m just remembering that part from „the night“ when he goes „make the girl in black your bride“ 😱 and I realize I missed a major part of the plot the entire time…
@@VertGM Eh. I’m happy for them but also a little disappointed. Really looking forward to where season 2 will take it though. I mean she walk into the mansion as a nerdy teenage girl just looking for a place to read quietly and now she’s somehow in a relationship with a thousand year old vampire that’s tried to rape and/or murder her on several occasions and she has tried to murder in turn. It should prove interesting!
Theory: The story told here is a progressive slide from absolutely despising each other to mildly regretfully hating each other to eventually just being glad they both have someone to live spend their immortality with Edit: did- did they dig that pit, put two color coded caskets in there, and mutually agree they weren't moving from those caskets until they worked through their shit?
I think this is my favorite one of Missi's appearances. Something about the frazzled and angry look combined with the one-eye/side fringe/patch is just very cute, and all the animations are highly expressive.
I knew they'd get together. Missi was reading twilight, Duke kind of mocks that. They both get pissy and petty, but they also make a point to dress up for the fight and are fairly respectful and kind of flirtatious in a way in showdown.. Only for them to end up together
have you not heard love and hate are just two sides of the same coin? Besides they are probably the only two beings capable of understanding the other so far.
I imagine missi explaining to her relatives how she came to be in this weird position 😂 everyone is gonna think it’s some twilight romance when actually they tried to kill each other countless of times but just couldn’t cause they didn’t want to feel lonely Edit : I just love the animation when they’re sitting up in their coffin. I don’t know why but this little « anticipation » pleases my eyes
You assume she’s told them anything and not just seemingly dropped off the face of the Earth. Remember, her sister was looking for her with missing person notices. And it’s not like SHE’S going to say anything, because she’s been enthralled and is currently simping on Duke like an alcoholic waiting for a liquor store to open.
So, a recap to get my own thoughts down: Missi is a 17 year old high school graduate, who apparently decides to go to a spooky old mansion to set the mood for the spooky book she's reading - Twilight. Ironically, this particular abandoned mansion belongs to a real-life vampire, called Duke, who decides to take the chance to screw with her for his own amusement. I guess being an ancient Vampire leads a guy to strange hobbies. After realizing she's unable to escape, and assuming (probably correctly) that Duke has intentions of a, ahem, _romantic_ nature, easily seduces him and proceeds to kill him via opening the windows to the sunlight outside. Incidentally she ends up holding his staff, which can be assumed to be an artifact of great power, and this turns her into a vampire herself. Duke goes to Hell, where he's treated as royalty and has an infernally good time. Now, there's a bit of a gap - Missi decides by the next full video to bring him back, but we don't really know why. All we have to go on is the scrapped animatic, which only really shows that in the time after Duke's death Missi has become obsessed with resurrecting him. Possibly she thinks he got off too easy, or maybe feels drawn to his presence due to the influence of his staff. In any case she succeeds, and in an ironic echo of how he treated her upon her arrival to the mansion proceeds to brutalize him and toss him out of his own house. Duke is a bit miffed about this and skulks around outside, peers through the windows, and occasionally throws tantrums. It's possible that the old Vampire rule - that one can't enter another's home without invitation - applies here, and since Missi has supplanted him as the mansion's owner he's stuck outside. He's smacked in the face with an idea to challenge Missi to a "showdown." While he's considering this, Missi is having an extremely bad time coping with the dark power of Duke's staff, and after very nearly losing her mind rejects it and makes to leave. Unfortunately for her, she catches sight of Duke still faffing about outside before she can make it out the door, and the animosity she still feels towards him leads her to fully embrace the staff's power. Duke makes up his mind and leaves a note inviting Missi to the showdown. Still feeling a bit under the weather, Duke goes looking for some strange in the cemetery, as you do, and ends up banging a zombie hooker. This gives him a zombie STD which he doesn't seem overly concerned about. He also happens across Missi's sister, Vanessa, who's looking for her; he seduces her and tries to get, ahem, _romantic_ ,but his condition causes an embarrassing version of erectile dysfunction - the dysfunction being that when he gets erect his cock falls off. Taking this in stride, it's revealed his family's tomb is in this same cemetery and this is where he plans to host his showdown. Missi arrives sometime after, and the two have an aggressive, somewhat sexually charged, dance competition. During a break Duke pours them some wine, poisoning Missi's glass. Missi, either sensing his deception or (as I prefer to believe) deciding to be an asshole, kicks the wine away and the two come to blows, crippling them both. There's another gap here that leads to the two of them cohabiting the mansion and again, we don't really know why. The speed draws put into the series' playlist show them first being apparently unwilling to continue the fight, and then somewhat (this is a very strong somewhat) getting along. We can assume in the time after the showdown they've left off on seriously attempting to kill one another and taken some sort of vow to share the mansion, and a bit more tenuously posit that this arrangement led to a romantic relationship, as the final video shows them sharing the same room and indeed bed. Despite their disagreements, petty acts of revenge (did Missi really bang Cerberus? Holy shit), and occasional homicide attempts, the relationship has reached a sort of equilibrium; when all is said and done they're both satisfied being with each other. Some additional observations: Dancing in the series seems to be symbolic of control or power. When Duke has power over Missi in the first video, he controls the dance; when she decides to trick him she uses her own dance moves. In Resurrection, Missi is dancing while the dumbstruck Duke is completely at her mercy. In Showdown, they both dance, showing their struggle to control/dominate each other. Finally, in this video, neither dance, showing they've accepted a mutual existence. The key Duke wears around his neck, which unlocks his ancestral tomb, has been passed down to him by his father, as seen in a portrait in Resurrection. His dad had the trademark white skin and was most likely a vampire as well, but his mother was apparently human. It would seem vampires in the Duke's lineage have a history of this sort of thing. We can also infer from this that vampires can probably breed. After embracing the staff's power in The Silent, Missi is apparently a vampire permanently (she doesn't turn back to a human when she loses it briefly) which probably has something to do with her willingness to be around the Duke and refusal to return to her old life. Birds of a feather flock together, after all. Daria has been planning this final video since at least Zombie Prostitute, with Duke seducing Missi's sister there. The inside of Duke's ancestral tomb is enormous and has a fully stocked liquor cabinet. Nice. I seriously can't believe Missi summoned the monsters of Hell and banged them just to piss off Duke. That's hardcore, girl.
@@רוןוקסמן-נ2ס yeah, and in the speed drawing on Duke pouring the poison, u can clearely see Missi was looking at him and did notice what he was doing.
I also like to think the the staff, works more or less like Ice King's crown from adventure time. Bassicly like some kind of virus which infects it's host for it's own benefit.
Platforms like Netflix and Disney spend thousands to make entertainment that's mediocre, yet gems like this are found here on RUclips. You deserve all the recognition and praise, can't wait for season two!
Man when you think of the Psychology, Missi and Duke has been fighting with eachother so much that they've kind of grown attached to eachother. If one side did win, what would they do really? Missi embraced the Staff's power purley for her hatred for Duke, so if he was gone she had no more reason to stay like that and she might not even be able to be human again, so in a twisted way she would lose herself. And Duke has probably had multiple chances of taking his Staff back, but didn't and i think it's maybe because he had realized that up until Missi showed up he has been kind of lonley as the line he sang "I'm just glad i'm not alone" . Sure he has probably been with a lot of people, but not really anyone that 'knows him' sort of, and since the two has faught and found so many small things to hate about the other they know eachother quite well. And with all that, they feel like they can't live without the other anymore, in a very twisted way they make eachother whole. Obviously it's far from a healthy relationship, it's definatly not a relationship that should be idealized, but it's a relationship that works for them.
It kinda reminds me of Tom and Jerry. They don't really fully hate nor love one another but they fight because that's just the kind of relationship they've grown to have,
Not to mention that Missi actually did go through a spell of not having Duke. First she brought him back from the dead apparently cause she couldn't stomach watching him live large down below; then she went insane after kicking him out of the mansion and actually tried to ditch the staff. And Duke, well he ended up seeing zombie hookers until Missi let him back in. It's all as nuts as you can ask for, but in the end, that's what made them happy. Edit: So what's s2 going to be like, I wonder?
I left a comment on my take on it, which is quite similar since this all makes the most sense. How I stumbled into this left me quite confused, and watching it all through, and this comment in particular, helped me work it out to my satisfaction, so thank you so much Deadly!! ruclips.net/video/BmuipIm5n8U/видео.html&lc=Ugwr1T_DAZW_vMoOvLB4AaABAg
I’d agree mostly but saying it “works for them” still reinforces the previous point of it being far from healthy - in that sense, it isn’t really working at all, just continuing a dangerous cycle. But ‘naturally’ people find that… *endearing*- Which is admittedly uncomfortable, seeing how many have also justified and romanticised it as though it’s wholesome 😖 Eh maybe I’m too old for this shmuck. Don’t get me wrong, Daria has talent. But I think the romantic implications one can take is cliche and just eh, otherwise the story telling and animations themselves are wonderful and Daria seems like a grounded lady, which is respectable!
3:40 Ok I just now noticed that Duke tries to prop himself up with his right hand but slips since he's missing his thumb. Dariah with your small details again
It’s interesting that they can’t regenerate their wounds. Normally that’s a pretty standard feature of Vampires. Unless they need to feed to do that... which as far as we’ve seen, neither of them have done that.
@@thibautisserant Fair enough, but the thought also brings to mind the fact that they’re both fairly capable spellcasters/alchemists based on the prevalence of both poison (in the confrontation) and other ingredients (in the cut prelude to the resurrection) in the castle. I do love it for story purposes though, and in all honesty I’m just curious if regaining them will become a plot point or something. Duke’s thumb is the more inconvenient of the two (from a aesthetic prospective), as Missi being “the One-eyed Vampire” is kinda badass.
@@thibautisserant I do also admit though, that fact definitely did slip my mind, considering I was actually writing about a Greater Vampire regrowing a hand after a fight at the time, but yeah, no, since it’s unclear how vampires work with regards to any sort of caste or ranking here, they may just operate on average mechanics like those. But also, they haven’t fed, like... at all...
Okay, this is my interpretation of what happened: After the "Showdown", they realized they are evenly matched (Duke has been alive for ages as far as we know, but Missi has completely embraced the power of the cane), and neither of them was in shape to kick the other out of the mansion. Cue them finding themselves in a weird situation, sharing the house (and hating it). When they get better, they resume the routine of fighting. It becomes sort of their new "normal" (I don't doubt they tried to get rid of each other for good, I mean, just look at them! But it doesn't end too different than it did in Showdown). So, yeah, they are literally stuck with each other. Now, I don't think they are in love by this point... I think they are just tired of fighting and, hey, it seems to be pointless anyway (Missi managed to kick Duke out of the house once, but she caught him off guard. In Showdown, it was another story) and, as weird as this sounds, there is some comfort in not being alone (sort like in Interview with a Vampire. Louis admits at one point in the novel he and Lestat hated to stay alone, which was one of the reasons they didn't leave each other even when it was clear they didn't exactly get along). It's more like Missi and Duke realized they're both messed up and agreeing that at least they aren't alone in it. (And I'll take it as one step toward them being together because I SHIIIIIP).
Honestly I love the idea of them fighting as the new normal. Because if they ever do manage to kick one or the other out, they'll end up getting sad because well, now they have no one to fight or bicker with. So now they're well and truly alone.
@@louparis1909 Same here. It's the whole "we're so used to each other that if one left, the other would feel like there's something missing". I think they will still fight and bicker after this, but it will be like so many rivals in anime, you know? There's some sort of frenemies there.
Something to keep in mind. In "Silence" we see that Missi is slowly going insane with no one around but shadow monsters trying to eat her. While it's somewhat implied she embraced the shadow monsters so they might no longer be an issue it's still a fact that she's trapped is maddening loneliness. As for Duke before Missi came along he was just lazing around waiting for someone to show up so he could mess with them. Hell dying was the best thing that ever happened to him as he got to enjoy company in hell. What this means is both were suffering by themselves, which is why when they finally chose to live togther, for better or for worse, they eventually found themselves unable to part with the other's company and in the first place their grudges were due to their past so once they decided to accept one another it wasn't hard to just let the past go.
They are camping their ground to not let the other take it over... And they can't leave the other out of their sight or they might conjure a dirty trap... So they live together, sleep together, eat together... And at this point why not make it official xD ?
So they decided that amidst their fighting, they do care for each other. It's a nice way to finish the season and I think they'll be able to get to know each other better now that they can put all their fighting behind them (either that, or they'll embrace their fighting as part of their dynamic).
Neat detail missi doesn't stop sleeping in a bed until she reconciles with duke thus accepting her vampire part and running along with it in raised by bats we see she no longer wears a nightgown and starts sleeping in the same coffin as duke fully clothed while duke stops sleeping in a deadmans embrace like hes being buried and starts sleeping in a more normal position
"you took to bed my favorite dog and all my friends" Then she showed the creatures mentioned in the video were duke was in hell. Such attention to detail.
@@alyceblak1524 I don't think she did. The remorseful look between Duke and his friends, as well as Missi closing the blinds instead of rubbing it in his face, to me implies she took his friends out of the picture, or killed their friendship so he can't be around them anymore. This could be true since not everything in the song should be looked at face value. Example, Missi said he drowned her cats one by one despite only having one and it's not dead, and Duke said she stabbed his mother in the chest, when it was just a photo
@@TheVegetaover9000 oh i know its not serious, though there is the issue of the collar being in the manor for that... But yah no i dont think its meant to SERIOUSLY imply that.
@@demonprincess9680 But the line is following "What's good for gander is good for goose", a paraphrasing of a saying with a meaning similar to an eye for an eye, basucally meaning "You did something, so it's okay for me to do the SAME thing", implying that because Duke slept with someone Missy cared about, it was okay that she took revenge by doing the same thing, as in sleeping with (taking to bed) the dog and his friends. I mean, I still get that not every line is meant to be taken at face value, but I don't see why this shouldn't be taken as Missy getting... frisky...
It sadistic, toxic, perfect example of inmortality in a relationship, and that they naturally come together and know Each others resolve and resentment to each other to be able to stay forever into it (in sort married), but in the end they know it’s that they love each other.
Huh, It seems that Missy's human identity may have finally been declared legally dead. At least, that's my thoughts on the stinger. Other than the friend searching for her in "Zombie Prostitute", we know so little about Missy's past.
i feel like the kid in the end is actually a young duke (cause daria said s2 will focus on him), and it's implied in this song that vanessa (the girl from zombie prostitue) is her sister
@@CSTunTun Was there a point to actually see that? I remember in the Silent we could see the "original" reflection, but I can't find a point in this video that would/should have Missi's reflection.

It's amazing how season 1 is ending. I love this series so much since I was a freshman and now I'm a senior graduating and best gift of all is this video. Daria Cohen you inspired me so much on writing fanfics of your series and more fan art because Duke and Missi are fun to draw and they became part of my life. Your a great animator, love how you tease us and we appreciate everything you do. I'm looking forward to the next season. Thank you 🖤
I'm thinking maybe they're pretending to be on good terms for their own plans. Duke, to get close enough to get the staff back, and Missi to kill him, because it's just a stale mate when fighting each other.
"You stabbed my mother", Duke's mom is Daria 🤣 Missi how could you. Also being messed up with someone on the same level is better than being messed up alone, kinda sad but I'm sure they will make it work.
It is interesting how much they go back and forth.. Do they hate each other? Do they like each other? Are they in love? This series is absolutely amazing and I take so much joy in it
I like that Daria chose a song that has both Amanda Palmer and Voltaire in it. For those who don’t know, Amanda Palmer is married to Neil Gaimen, the author of such notable books as: -Coraline -The Graveyard Book (I have this one- amazing read) -American Gods -Good Omens And many more books that fall into the child horror genre. It’s a good fit, for this whole series fits nicely into that genre.
From what I know so far, it seems that even though they hate each other, they just can't seem to live without the other. It could also just be because Duke is bound to her after his resurrection, and Missi could be bound to the staff, unable to let it go ("This is my curse, I said I do") so she has no choice but to stay at the castle and not re-enter society. Not to mention, they're vampires, although we've seen other fictional beings like zombies and skeletons, we haven't seen other vampires (or I missed something). They might as well be the only ones of their kind left.
I think that's why is called Vam-pair. Pair as in two. Yes, they are the only vampires we see, but there's a possibility that they're the only ones left. And now they're stuck together. As a _pair_
That Could Possibly Be What It Means But In My Perspective It Looks To Be Showing Three Stages Of How They Are Doing Inside The Castle&Their Routine. 1.Coping With Each Other-We Do See In The First Scene Missi&Duke Arguing About Each Other's Lifestyle(I Think That's What The Magazine&Underwear Were Indicating) 2.Sharing-So They Seem To Share A Bathroom Since Missi Is Waiting For Duke To Finish In The Scene 3.Fighting-So It Seems Like The Fighting Is A Routine Since They Do Hate Each Other For What They Did To Each Other. And The Ending Seems To Hint How They Went From Lonely To Busy&How Even Though They Hate Each Other It Seems To Be Better For Them To Be With Each Other Than Alone,So The Vampair Series Means Being With A Friend Is Better Than Being Alone Although We Still Seen Season 2 So Maybe More Characters Will Be Introduced
Daria actually planned ahead with this song as the final in mind and decided to do the eye and thumb scene to make it look like the song was made for this animation. You can find that the song is much older than this animation.
It's crazy that you: - Gave Missy a cat that the Duke didn't have (nor did she before she turned) - Made the entire zombie prostitute video to introduce Missy having a sister AND the Duke having an affair with her - Crippled both your characters with VERY specific wounds - Introduced the dead Duke being popular and having a dog in the underworld - Cursed Missy with the staff All to fit this season finale storyline xD I might have missed more details, and some of these may have been a coincidence, but still, dang. Thank you for sharing!
Couldn't help but smile while watching when I realized "The Showdown" had set up for the "Stuck with you" lyrics in this, like the axing of the thumb and poking out an eye. Overall a lot of fun to see it weave in parts of the previous videos, all the while matching the lyrics. I don't mind that the series doesn't try to fit itself into some clear and solid narrative. I like Voltaire's songs and whether intended or not the videos and series as a whole, have the same lovable mixture of goofiness and seriousness, that doesn't really need a strong consistency. At the same time, it's not so ridiculous that there couldn't be a narrative. Fans and new videos can fill in or add to the story. All in all, it's really turned out great.

Am I the only one who's really confused? I thought they hated each other? Their relationship did a total 180 in the past minute there. I'm glad I stumbled onto "The Night." See you in Season 2!
Its been the plan for a long time that they'd eventually fall in love, and be an old married couple essentially, but I think what we're seeing here is a bit of a timeskip, maybe a couple months worth. Eventually deciding to stop fighting so hard because it just makes them tired.
@@jadestory8410 Or they still have their differences but at the same time...their own circumstances leave them with nobody but each other and, in the end...it's better than an eternity of solitary isolation.
From what I know so far, it seems that even though they hate each other, they just can't seem to live without the other. It could also just be because Duke is bound to her after his resurrection, and Missi could be bound to the staff, unable to let it go so she has no choice but to stay at the castle and not re-enter society. Not to mention, they're vampires, although we've seen other fictional beings like zombies and skeletons, we haven't seen other vampires (or I missed something). They might as well be the only ones of their kind left.
@@jadestory8410 Stop fighting so hard? They literally just tried to kill one another in this and in the last episode. Ngl, I don’t like this sudden romantic interest they have with another. Like throughout the series and on the side, the creator has portrayed them being brutal to one another. Beating, stabbing, teasing, and just down right being horrible to each other. Hell in the very first episode, Duke tries to r*pe Missy! ( weird how a lot of people glossed over that both now and when it came out ) I don’t know, this just seems like it could be a potentially abusive relationship ( if it wasn’t one already ) Or maybe I could just stop applying mental psychology and logic to funny vampire series

@@plantinapot9169 That does make things awkward, but to be fair, nothing ever said that Duke and Missi's relationship was ideal or healthy. And to go back to the Tom and Jerry comparison, Tom is constantly trying to eat Jerry, which is just as bad a place to start a friendship.
Been following the series ever since "Resurrection" came out. Watched the first 3 episodes, loved them and been checking ever since for new ones. you've made such a cool project with these. Glad to see the 1st season wrap up after all these years.
Missi: I'm stuck with you Duke: You know you can just give me back my cane and go back to your life before, right? Missi: Duke: Missi: Eh, more fun to chase you with a blowtorch.
Yeah i was thinking about that but maybe not? As someone else pointed out she briefly lost the staff/cane in The Showdown and she didn't revert back to human and instead was able to get it back. So maybe after embracing the staff fully in The Silent fully turned her into a vampire?
I was trying to figure out what was different about this one. theres a ton more movement, of the characters and the camera. It looks like theres more detail, but we get more of the castle. Its beautiful and looks so good.
At first I was confused about the nature of their relationship, but then I realized it's just an example of a sprouting kismesitude - two rivals who can't live without each other
duke was quite happy without her, and she without him. She brought him back literally just to torture him more.
@@superanimeniac I really wouldn't call her part happy. She was traumatized ,anxious, tried to let things go,desperately trying to return to her old life in hopes things will just go back to normal and then torn apart by her hatred and anger towards him. None of that is happy .-.

So they've finally realized that while they're both broken, messed up, and cursed, they aren't alone in it, and the fact that they aren't alone in it all makes them feel better. That's a nice end for the season. Them just agreeing to exist together because they're both fucked up in their own ways
Although, most of the reasons Missi is fucked up is because of the Duke.

@@paulagarciarubio6310 Daria already said that Duke didn't try to rape Missi. She tricked him and he thought it was consensual.

@Greta Wilson yeah but the question is what happened for the character development to happen
Exactly, they're both immortal and can't kill each other so the sheer hate turns to annoyance
This
They've learned to ive with each other. I'm fine with the ship biut this is my headcanon for now haha
A comparison I can make is between
Ram and Roswaal from Re:Zero, despite everything Roswaal did and was doing Ram realizes she's grown attached and actually loves Roswaal.
0:37 the animation of Missy here... Wow. The way she growls, her dramatic head throw. Dude
So, a recap to get my own thoughts down:
Missi is a 17 year old high school graduate, who apparently decides to go to a spooky old mansion to set the mood for the spooky book she's reading - Twilight.
Some additional observations:
Dancing in the series seems to be symbolic of control or power.
Well done!
Btw in the part where duke poisoned her wine if you look closely her eyes glow (as in she noticed)
@@רוןוקסמן-נ2ס yeah, and in the speed drawing on Duke pouring the poison, u can clearely see Missi was looking at him and did notice what he was doing.

Pfff-
@@tuononnovainbici that's right
“oN yOur Left!”
Duke: "Sounds exhausting"
Man when you think of the Psychology,
Missi and Duke has been fighting with eachother so much that they've kind of grown attached to eachother.
How I stumbled into this left me quite confused, and watching it all through, and this comment in particular, helped me work it out to my satisfaction, so thank you so much Deadly!!

i love this theory
I’d agree mostly but saying it “works for them” still reinforces the previous point of it being far from healthy - in that sense, it isn’t really working at all, just continuing a dangerous cycle.
But ‘naturally’ people find that… *endearing*- Which is admittedly uncomfortable, seeing how many have also justified and romanticised it as though it’s wholesome 😖
Eh maybe I’m too old for this shmuck.
Alternatively they can only regenerate so much. An eye and a thumb might be too much for this universe's vampires.
They could close a wound but not many vampires in stories can grow back a limb or an organ.
But also, they haven’t fed, like... at all...
Okay, this is my interpretation of what happened:
After the "Showdown", they realized they are evenly matched (Duke has been alive for ages as far as we know, but Missi has completely embraced the power of the cane), and neither of them was in shape to kick the other out of the mansion.
This makes a lot of sense. Good thinking there.
@@GRtogetaBIC Thanks!!!!
In short, platonic Kismesis
Summary: Make no mistake this is a toxic relationship, but it's inescapable for either party so efforts are being made.
Best description I’ve seen of them thus far
Toxic relationships with the right amount of work from both parties can become healthy.
Its Like "I Hate You, But I Love You" Type Of Relashionship.
I'm more confused how they transitioned from absolutely hating eachothers guts to begrudgingly living together
Spite?
Exactly, so fricken confused
They are camping their ground to not let the other take it over... And they can't leave the other out of their sight or they might conjure a dirty trap... So they live together, sleep together, eat together... And at this point why not make it official xD ?

So they decided that amidst their fighting, they do care for each other. It's a nice way to finish the season and I think they'll be able to get to know each other better now that they can put all their fighting behind them (either that, or they'll embrace their fighting as part of their dynamic).
i mean Duke does kind of give of masochistic vibes XD
That’s never ending MASOCHISM TANGO *I mean, there was a video with them and this song, so...*
"you took to bed my favorite dog and all my friends"
Then she showed the creatures mentioned in the video were duke was in hell. Such attention to detail.
Are we all gonna gloss over this line implies she fucked cerberus?
By "took to bed my favorite dog" most likely means she took Cerberus to be put down. That's why Duke still has the collars
I mean, I still get that not every line is meant to be taken at face value, but I don't see why this shouldn't be taken as Missy getting... frisky...

@@Уруру-у6ю what’s the title?
their obsessive hatred towards each other must've slowly boiled down into a deep understanding
I like that Daria chose a song that has both Amanda Palmer and Voltaire in it.
For those who don’t know, Amanda Palmer is married to Neil Gaimen, the author of such notable books as:
-Coraline
-The Graveyard Book (I have this one- amazing read)
-American Gods
-Good Omens
And many more books that fall into the child horror genre. It’s a good fit, for this whole series fits nicely into that genre.
Quite irony that the guy who give me the fear of doll as a child, also gave me a gay panick as an adult
I love the Graveyard Book!
He’s also the creator of Sandman and the Endless
Graveyard book is one of my favourites
NO WAY??? That’s why the name sounded so familiar omg 😭 I had no idea these books were by the same author either
As a _pair_
Wouldnt say pure hate i see a soft Spot live they care for each other but refuse to admit it
Vegeta and al bundy are like that to peg and bulma lol
That Could Possibly Be What It Means But In My Perspective It Looks To Be Showing Three Stages Of How They Are Doing Inside The Castle&Their Routine.
1.Coping With Each Other-We Do See In The First Scene Missi&Duke Arguing About Each Other's Lifestyle(I Think That's What The Magazine&Underwear Were Indicating)
2.Sharing-So They Seem To Share A Bathroom Since Missi Is Waiting For Duke To Finish In The Scene
3.Fighting-So It Seems Like The Fighting Is A Routine Since They Do Hate Each Other For What They Did To Each Other.

WAIT did they really?-
If you look at the bottom of the description, it says who wrote and sang the song originally, so yes, they did :)
Daria actually planned ahead with this song as the final in mind and decided to do the eye and thumb scene to make it look like the song was made for this animation. You can find that the song is much older than this animation.
It's crazy that you:
- Gave Missy a cat that the Duke didn't have (nor did she before she turned)
- Made the entire zombie prostitute video to introduce Missy having a sister AND the Duke having an affair with her
- Crippled both your characters with VERY specific wounds
- Introduced the dead Duke being popular and having a dog in the underworld
- Cursed Missy with the staff
All to fit this season finale storyline xD
I might have missed more details, and some of these may have been a coincidence, but still, dang. Thank you for sharing!
It's surprising how much work went in to the storyline.
I’m surprised at the tone change. I really thought they would still be at each other’s throats. Kudos for surprising us.
I mean, homicide attempts were not lacking in this
These two are the textbook definition of “the inherent eroticism of trying to murder each other”
Couldn't help but smile while watching when I realized "The Showdown" had set up for the "Stuck with you" lyrics in this, like the axing of the thumb and poking out an eye.
Even as far back as the fifth one, when it showed missi’s sister looking for her
I still cant bring myself to see this as a romance, but I do see it as a satisfying resolution. Since they cannot defeat each other, they could only coexist
