    For a tip when starting these 390/360/352/460 with points, you can't leave the key on too long. otherwise, you will burn them points up.
    Your Bendix is going out on your starter, plus you need a bigger carburetor650/700

    At one time for me it was a 1965 F250, with a Thunderbird 428 and 1960 Ford Super Stock cast iron headers. Had 2.5 inch dual truck mufflers and turn downs. Standing near at idle and your chest could feel the exhaust pulsations. Art Carr modes to Ford automatic from same Thunderbird.. Cab over camper and accelerated past 90 mph going South up the I5 Grapevine. Great for trailing horses and I miss it.

    Awesome video. I learned a few things from watching it. I hope to find a 1965 F250 custom cab camper special in caribbean turquoise one day. My father bought one brand new in upstate NY and he got a nice slide in camper with it. So many wonderful memories of either going to hunting camp and Grandma's house traveling in that truck. Tbis will give me something to do in my retirement one day. Cheers!

    you always come up with the coolest vehicles to work on :) but looks like you will have your hands full with the wiring mess, hope it all goes well! :), I just helped a friend with a fuel gauge problem related to sending unit, I found it hard to find the proper sending unit (impedance) to match the fuel gauge impedance (in ohms measured) they vary widely in ohms and if not matched it would show wrong fuel level or if open can make the gauge peg backwards, good luck ! but all this makes it fun :)

    • @Rustwrangler
      @Rustwrangler  7 месяцев назад +2

      Oh yea, this was a super cool truck! And extremely fun to work on. That’s interesting info about the fuel gauge, is that due to mixing and matching parts from different vehicles, or new parts not built to the specs needed?

    • @stevent3450
      @stevent3450 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@Rustwrangler I typed in a long reply on how and what i used to simulate a sending unit to test and match a fuel gauge and either I didn't click reply or Utube removed it maybe because I had given the brand name and or because I abbreviated wire wound potentiometer as "POT" maybe I forgot to hit reply or enter and it erased it all :)

    My thoughts... vacuum leak from the brake booster/hose? Thin coat of grease on the carb gasket (both sides) to help the seal and prevent it from sticking? Water in the fuel tank? Since its a rebuilt FE, it would be a good idea to use some carb cleaner to test for intake to head vacuum leaks, but you need to pull the valve covers to do that.

    • @Rustwrangler
      @Rustwrangler  7 месяцев назад +1

      Good idea on the thin coat of grease on the carb gasket, I did at one point unhook and plug all of the vacuum lines to eliminate any possibilities of a bad line.

    • @RustBeatersDerelicts
      @RustBeatersDerelicts 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@Rustwrangler Yep, once you eliminate the air and fuel issues, all that leaves is electrical/timing. BTW, the way my dad showed me to adjust timing at idle, he used a timing light and a vacuum gauge at the same time, find that sweet spot of enough initial advance without making it hard to start.

    The last 10% of a build is almost always where interest is lost. The little things are time consuming and it's hard to visualize the project moving forward when you're doing things like wiring, body work, etc. Throwing in a motor or doing a body swap is more visually satisfying.

    • @Rustwrangler
      @Rustwrangler  7 месяцев назад +2

      Absolutely, there were times when I was building my c10 that I would walk away from it a month at a time and had to pick away at a few little things here and there to get that excitement going again.

      I have a buddy that starts tons of hobbies. He spends a ton of money on them but doesn't finish them. He built a building to "work " and store them in. When that building became filled He tore it down and built a bigger building.
      Sounds like he's rich, right?
      Nope, he constantly complains how he is one foot away from the poor house. And it's true, I do his taxes. It's super easy but he paid a service to do it previously.
      Example. He bought a used John Deer rider. Stripped it all down ,new motor, new deck , new tires and authentic green paint and decals. All the top tier equipment to paint it.
      And it sits in the building unused because it needs a new starter switch.
      As does the Ford Ranger . He did sell the Mercedes that he fully restored for half of what he had invested in it🥴
