BG least developed, yet most compelling character.when he spoke no one else talked. His presence didn’t demand a back story only his observation. And I didn’t really notice it until writing this comment. But I think any understanding of the character blows away the fog and mystery of how he thinks the way he does and comes to conclusions so in a way it was perfectly balanced.

the king of all satans Because sometimes there are preview/early screenings for some movies just before they get wide release. Usually for the studio to get an idea of how the audience may react to the film. My mom used to work in the theatre department at our local community college, and it wasn’t uncommon for studios and theaters to send a couple early screening tickets for various films throughout the year - like, when the movie “Must Love Dogs” came out, my mom and I used the early screening tickets to see it. They (at least used to) would be the viewings where they would go through your belongings to make sure you had no devices to record a fairly decent quality of the full movie on and pirate it in a sense.

But next October we are getting another Poirot movie as “Murder on the Orient Express” did well enough, so now they’re doing “Death on the Nile”. My mom fucking FLIPPED, especially as it’s one of her favorite storylines. She ADORES Poirot stories, but I think she was afraid that it would be too old of material to find a big enough audience back in 2017. But she does love that the new adaptions are a bit more race blind in their castings.
But I used to watch the popular 80s/90s show growing up more than I did kids stuff - as well as “Columbo” and “Murder She Wrote”. My parents were born in the mid to late 1940s but didn’t have me until 1990, so nearly all my childhood movies and shows (minus Disney and a few other exceptions) were Agatha Christie adaptations, and detective shows - just like nearly all my music was Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, etc., and I never heard of David Bowie until I was 12, and never heard of The Rolling Stones (and thought they were America) - heck I didn’t even recognize the name Queen or almost any of their songs even when I was 13. But mom also adores “Clue” (we all do, and is one of my childhood movies, as well as Addams Family - but never saw “The Goonies” until I was 17), and since this movie comes across as a mix of aspects from all those different shows and movies, we knew we had to see it.
I did get pissed when I came across a video where they claim Hollywood is making “too woke” of movies, and they wanted this movie to fail because the guy who directed, directed “The Last Jedi”, which they complained was “too woke”. That just seems so stupid to me - like don’t say you want it to flop simply because you didn’t like his Star Wars film, when the two movies are so vastly different from one another in enough ways that comparisons are stupid. And calling people who liked “TLJ” (and other films), because they tried to update characters to mirror changing societal views , etc., “snowflakes”...It’s like, if anyone is a snowflake, it’s fanboys/fangirls who can’t handle any change no matter how small it may be. Makes the person come across as a child throwing a tantrum. And at least everyone in this movie are good actors.

You don't just call 911, let it ring once, then hang up and that's that. They have to call back, and if no one answers, authorities are sent to the residence.
I know this from personal experience. The police not being aware of the call is a massive plot convenience, and completely implausible.

I am not saying that basing your self on insider is wrong mostly when we all have limited time to do or see things. I really liked Brick when I was in high school. Then when I saw Looper was Rian Johnson, I was excited for that as well... which turned out to be a solid 8/10 movie.
But there's also that Breaking Bad "Fly" episode, and of course The Last Jedi... so this guy is all over the map. Hoping it's not the pretentious smug mess it looks like in the trailers.

This movie was great. At the end, it reminded me of the movie "Clue." This movie certainly merits the description, "whodunit," but it's such a special twist on the genre since [PARTIAL SPOILER ALERT IN THIS NEXT SENTENCE] they reveal the who and the supposed how in the first third of the film. It's still quite a fun ride afterward.
There are many talented actors in this ensemble cast, and though most were necessarily underutilized due to appropriately focusing the narrative on the reluctant protagonist and dogged detective/P.I., I'm glad to have seen them.
There are some "politics" that appear in this film but that does not drive the narrative and is more so meant to be a reflection of current events and serve as a second layer of complexity beyond the obvious me-versus-the-family dynamic that presents itself halfway through the film. In short, if your blood is stirred by certain hot-button issues, take the brief references (not even really discussions) to them in stride and keep enjoying the film.
The only thing I couldn't get over was Daniel Craig. He's actually a talented character actor but, for me personally, I just kept seeing James Bond pretending to be a Southern detective. He does a great job at it but I can't not see James Bond when I see Daniel Craig (and this is coming from someone who grew up with Pierce Brosnan as 007).
Overall, it's a fun ride with witty humor, and worth seeing, perhaps especially with family as I did tonight.
