People that are old enough to see this movie should know right from wrong as far as the justice system goes. It's stupid to pinpoint this movie as a problem when there's far worse stuff going on in the world to influence troubled individuals.

Politicians tried this crap with Marilyn Manson after the Columbine massacre. People don't go out and kill people because of a movie. People kill people because of mental illness lack of access to Mental Health Services. Parents who neglect their children and don't love them. Money for Wars but never money to help the average person. Politicians love to deflect from their failings,.

That's a nice way to put it. I'll add that this is the best origin story that I've seen since jack Nicolas fell into a toxic vat in the Michael Keaton Batman. Plus, this was even a two for one origin story with no flash backs cause it also had Bruce Wayne's Batman origin story in it as well.
I'd grown sick to death of origin stories up till now but this one was good. Plus it was a remake of taxi driver too and yet it was a remake I liked.

None of those things should happen and yet in the US they do *every day*.

I think the controversy around this movie is that people DO empathize with a villain and it scares them. To me the Joker is a story more about the haves and have nots. Class is a huge underpinning of this story, that value of human life and what happens when someone is stripped of their humanity by society. Those men that beat him, the ones that chased him, his possible father didn't see him as a person but as something less than human. That's what he became.

    • @TheTeodorsoldierabvb
      @TheTeodorsoldierabvb Год назад +3

Never did scare me that I empathize with him. I don't even think he's supposed to be labeled a villain. He's an anti-hero, in classic comic book terms, and an extreme individualist in philosophical terms, that's symply disgusted with modern society. Well, of course, he's a special figure, both due to his character legacy from the comics and his individual intellectual qualities, but such people do exist, and "regular" people always play surprised when they do snap. Maybe watching the movie will create some sort of awareness.

Furthermore, the protesters maimed cops who were trying to catch a serial murderer. Both classes have many members victimizing innocent people even in the movie, much less real life. Taking sides against the 'other' while ignoring the exact same bad behavior in your own group is very realistic, but I don't think it was supposed to be the take home message.

You tell yourself to at least try, knowing you will fall, yet not knowing when or how far you’ll get. The falling part is easy. The difficult and agonizing part is not knowing which side (of sanity) you’ll land, if anyone is waiting for you, if there’s a bouncy thing (or the much easier slab of concrete) to land on, or if the floss will simply ever so easily slice your head off like a garrote...

The part where his case worker informed him that the funding for their program was being cut made me think. Because it is a reality that we do not fund mental health services enough right now. In THESE times. Come on now. Think about that. Everything we're going through. Can you imagine the number of people in the US going through this pandemic, out of work, the BLM movement against police brutality and racism, a fascist president, kids being locked in cages....all these horrific things going on right now...And people can't get healthcare to treat the inevitable mental illnesses that are undoubtedly being exacerbated. Can you imagine? I remember when Trump got elected that people MOCKED the people that actually cried over it. That bothered me quite a bit...and maybe the first three years were like "okay maybe we sensationalized this a little and were scared over nothing we haven't turned into a police state yet so that's good..." and then came 2020...and to me it became clear that those peoples' fears were 100% warranted. I have no idea where we will be by next year. I hope that this year will result in some serious collective self-reflection that leads to better outcomes.

Smartest damned thing DC's done since they started their competition with Marvel's movies. Dump the "shared universe" idea. They're just shackles on the writers and it's long played out anyway. Let each film be it's own film, and not dependent upon any other. It could be both a game changer for the superhero film genre in general and for DC who may end up being more successful producing solid one-off films rather than bloated, overly-entangled sequels, prequels, crossovers, etc. I think DC knows by now that they can't successfully copy Marvel's formula, and so they're trying something they're already good at - multi-verses.

Movies have largely lowered themselves to find their audiences rather than challenge their audiences to do some thinking.

There's no such thing as a bad (or good) person. There's just people who do things that other people judge as either good or bad, and no matter who you are, you will be judged as both at some point. To empathize with anyone is merely to admit that at least some part of their situation is empathetic, NOT that the sum of their actions are completely justified.

When watching the movie you really forget that it's a Joker movie. They did this absolutely incredibly, this movie seems alot more like a person damaged by society, and then this person realises that he gets all the attention by hurting and killing others, thinking violence is the only way to stop his pain. I think this Joker is a better fit for the sad back story, however I couldn't see him fighting batman. All the other Jokers were also great, don't get me wrong, they're great for being an actual Villian like in a Batman movie, but this Joker is a representation of what it looks like to feel worthless and lonely, always taken the piss out of, but then turns the table.

"When watching the movie you really forget that it's a Joker movie."
That actually sums up my entire problem with this movie. Too slow to get the main point across. Too much exposition into his backstory as Arthur ; and not enough screen time as the Joker. Not enough chaos and/or violence ; which is what'd you'd expect to see in a Joker movie. All in all ; the movie delivered a great message to the screen ; but unfortunately the way in which it was delivered was too slow, too boring and too bland. It's really only towards the end of the movie where things begin to speed up. I'd give it a 6/10 at most. In spite of what most people say ; this movie was far from a masterpiece.

Who else wants a scarecrow movie, like a joker 2019 esc. character study of Jonathan crane would be so disturbing. Starting out with the trauma of his grand mother putting crow attractor on him and locking him in an abandoned church as the crows pecked. But when he was a teen standing up for himself, by rubbing on a bully's eyes making the crows blind him (this all happened) and terrifying his grandmother and finally getting an apartment of his own. Becoming fascinating by fear, starving himself, going into psychology saying secret things to patients to trigger there deep down fears. You could have him try frequencies to give fear. Eventually becoming a professor, and during the job he develops the fear toxin, and the fear injector needle glove thing, and injecting himself making him immune to fear itself. Eventually something happens that makes him inject someone with it, regretting it at first, but realizing after how good it felt, to make an impact like that to someone else, to be someone. To turn his torment on them. He gets fired as a professor for firing a gun in glass as a demonstration on what makes fear. Than gets framed for bad stuff the rest of the staff did (he never got framed for the staff in comics, I just think it might work), and before almost being taken to black gate for the false accusations. He snaps, he finishes the injector, makes the suit. And when police bust down his door he appears from the corner behind it, and injects them, and goes on a rampage releasing true terror on the few unlucky streets, turning into the scarecrow.

The movie causes you to have "sympathy for the devil" - This didn't just take place in some make believe universe, this was an honest portrayal of present day society. There are plenty of people who are in a position similar to that of the main character, who literally have nothing to live for and are too aware and sensitive for their own good. They see the world as a cruel and evil place and a film like this has the potential to influence those kind of people into acts of violence. The Joker is actually glorified as a god among men for murdering people by the end of this film. Just because you have a strong grip on your reality, doesn't mean you should assume that other people do. I can guarantee you that there are now people sympathizing with school shooters and the Batman theater shooter after having seen this film. And on a side note, the movie also encourages revolution through violence, which is the MOST damaging message. It's a tyranical government's dream to have people rise up with violence, so they can strike them down with advanced militarization and usher in a whole new system of intense oppression.
With all that being said, I hadn't heard any reviews prior to watching this movie, and these were my honest thoughts after seeing it. I thought the movie was amazing and set the bar to an unattainable level in regards to portraying the joker.

I was so uncomfortable the whole time seeing Arthur laugh or live his life, he was only a shell and living life like we all do, in a repeating circle of nothingness. But when he turned into the Joker I felt relieved, not because I sympathize with him or understand his motives( which I can to be honest) but because he truly does what he wants, he feels confident and for the first time in his life he feels happy. It was a truly beautiful thing to see. However, that does not mean that what the Joker did is an option we should consider. We can sympathize with his struggles, because everyone had hard times in their lifes, of course we understand, but when he kills his mother, it's not solely because he feels angry or betrayed, it's because he sees no use for her. That's not something anyone could easily understand. And you are right, the Joker is a violent person. He himself cares about nothing, he just wants to wreak havoc. He feels comfortable, seen, understood in chaos. I was truly uncomfortable and scared of him, he was like a rabid dog, ready to strike at any moment. Even if we sympathize, it's hard not to be scared.

That was hard to watch, when he smothered her, but I don't think it's merely because he no longer had a use for her, rather I think he systematically tried to erase anyone who had harmed him, and he visited her right after rediscovering his formerly repressed trauma resulting from abuse and her neglect // he felt she had horribly betrayed him by failing to act when he was being abused, that's why he tells her that even though she always said he had a condition, the truth about why he was so mentally ill was much more sinister... So the last scene featuring her, was a sort of liberation and ironically, a sort of twisted fresh start for him. As much as he does embody the anarchist persona, it still feeds more off of his pain rather than just off of a desire to wreak havoc, which is why he's kind of seen as a protagonist in the end...

Right? Especially when he was going on stage as a standup comedian in front of the girl he loves. Whenever he was laughing uncontrollably, I was sitting there, cringing, laying far back in my seat, hiding behind my fingers hoping something good happens. I like how I really sided with Arthur at the end, but at the start I was uneasy with how he was. After I understood what he was going through and how he's condition made it really hard, I understood and I sympathize with him. I also love how bad everything is going, and he still manages to have some great moments. Somebody cares for him, he meets a girl and she thinks a lot like him, he kisses two ladies, he becomes a standup comedian, he stars in the late night show, he always has the last laugh on the ones who don't like him, he becomes a symbol for the poor and oppressed and he just becomes more and more confident. Loved this film A+

Joker portrays “graphically” what a lot of people, it not most, want to pretend they don’t see in today’s society.
This film wouldn’t have gotten the controversy it has gotten only a few years ago. We’ve become a society that wants to pretend the problems of this world don’t exist, and mental health is among the few things that we should be paying attention to the most.

I dont think you know how critic reviews on RT work. RT is not a rating site for critics. RT just acculamates different reviews and from publications and movie critic sites and put them on RT.
If you actually go on RT and read the critic reviews and click on the full review then it directs you to a different website from where that review came from.
Meaning, 69% of Critics liked the movie. That's twice as many of those who didnt like it which was 31%. Meaning Joker is a pretty good movie.
And yeah the new Ghostbusters wasnt really bad. The only reason why you guys hated it was because it was political for you. You obviously dont like Feminism so you didnt like the movie. It's the same reason why you guys didnt like the Last Jedi and Captain Marvel because "feminism".
You know just because a movie has a feminist theme doesnt make it a bad movie. And you believing Feminism is bad doesnt make the movie bad. You actually have to use critical thinking and explain why Feminism didnt work for the film and where did it work. And critique other aspects of the movie. Just crying about Feminism makes you look like a weak pathetic tool.
