  • Making a blade from 1500 pieces of fish hooks. About removing the container: In some cases, I prefer not to remove the container. The container protects the valuable material and if there are cavities left, they will easily weld during the second welding. Before the second welding, I grind the container off the adjoining surfaces. The rest of the container with a thickness of 2 mm, during the first welding, lengthens four times, becomes 0.5 mm, but due to a decrease in the cross-section by 2.5 times, the thickness is 1.25 mm of which some thickness burns out. In the second welding, with an elongation of four times, the thickness is 0.31 mm, with an increase in width of 1.75 times, the thickness of the container is 0.18 mm, and some part burns out. In my experience, there is almost no container until the end of forging.

On my patreon page, I began to explain the processes and secrets of my work. Topics already covered:
    1. Why do I add pepper to container Damascus steel.
    2. What do I sprinkle? Flux and its composition.
    3. How do I remove the container from the workpiece (container Damascus steel).
    4. Why am I drilling a hole in a container.
    5. Why do I sweep away the dross from the anvil with my hand.
    6. Why do I first forge some blanks on a tree.
    7. In what and why do I soak the blank before forging.
    8. In which granules do I place the workpiece after forging.
    9. What kind of white powder do I pour into the container.

already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.

If you have a camera with specialty quartz lens (which won't filter out rough UV radiation from the arc) and it doesn't have automatic sensitivity corrector (how ancient must camera be to not have it, tho), then yeah - you have a good chance to kill that poor matrix.

Are the fish hooks stainless steel? If they are stainless does it make a big difference when it comes to heat treating the knife? All of the stainless heat treat recipes I've seen seem very hard to do with a forge vs having a specific heat treating over like what you use for the tempering process. Either way the blade looks great and I really enjoyed seeing you do a dagger like build with this blade. I love your normal style of blades buts it nice to see a different style from time to time. Thanks for sharing this beauty with us.

That would be how canister Damascus works, though technically what he's making is pattern-welded steel. True Damascus is hard to come by, and even harder to make

These sealed box forge always remind me of that one Forged in Fire episode where the show provided the bladesmiths with a ready made sealed box to create a Damascus knife and all of them spent AN HOUR disassembling the box to take the contents out 🤦‍♂️

Всё видео сидел и думал что вот надо спросить как влияет метал (короб в который крючки засыпали в начале) на конечное изделие, это ж сколько железа левого.
Потом прочел описание про контейнер. Думаю что понял малеха.
