I absolutely love watching these blades come to life. I also feel like this man's immune system is the best in the world. The wild variety of these teas that he makes is amazing.
This is stunning sir. Absolutely beautiful and actually when you look at it the right way it looks like there’s nothing but an edge nothing in the middle. You did a great job sir what a great job!
Straight to the making process, no long introduction. I like it. And you were also considerate too. Not many people lower the brightness from weddings.
Beautiful work as always, Shurap the Bladesmith! Please continue to bless the world with your creativity and craftsmanship! Happy holidays and best wishes!
@@leightonburns5071 I’m thinking it’s because the edge is stainless. The cold blueing won’t work on stainless as it’s basically creating a oxide or rust layer
What chemical was used to darken the inner section of the steel, and what steel combination does that? Its amazing. I'm guessing its a bluing solution but I'm not sure.
It's a selenium dioxide compound used to darken the steel, is often used as an alternative to the more efficient heat and quench in oil process to protect the steel against rust.
Ok, I have one comment and two questions. 1. Beautiful blade well executed, I can't wait to try it myself. 2. What steels did you use? 3. What was it you used to darken the softer steel that wicked off the harder steel? (Was it a simple blueing agent?) Thanks. again nice vid.
I've been wondering about this as well, it seems like the paint just won't stick to the metal he's been using for the core, and instead clings to the other metal for some reason.
@@timhartherz5652 Stainless steel forget with high carbon steel. Its not the paint its a "gun blue" or "super blue" and this thing do nothing for stainless but other metals become black and resist to corrosion.
The blade is made from a combination of carbon and stainless steels. The bluing only effects the etched carbon steel leaving the polished stainless silver and darkening the carbon steel black. Similar to how the nickel in carbon damascus resists the etch and remains silver.

Lovely work, very impressive! Before i saw the etch i wondered why you worked the blade at cross angles in the press. I think I know why now! Which alloys are used in this project?
Stunning how you unify blacksmith, chemistry, and art. Thank you and I hope you'll be back soon. Take care and be safe.
The best part is when he doesnt explain or even say what he is doing or why its being done. Even if captioned or subtitles, its really awesome!!
And tea!

6:52 The Beskar ring... I love that subtle reference to the show, not like the blade itself was a reference or anything. Beautiful piece of work
Good call out, totally went over my head. I just thought "that's odd, he's never done that before."

A departure from the wild damascus we have come to expect , still , a unique process with stunning results . A beautiful blade as always !
For some reason I look forward to the tea making part as well as the amazing craftmanship with the blades.
I do to, it's always kool to see the tea, pot, and cup combo
No tea was consumed at any point in this video.
What is it that he is drinking then?
A clear kiwami japan copy
Hot Orange Tang.
The “forge” is strong with this one....
Lol guud one
Oh, well played sir.
But will it keel?
This is the blade
Nice one, really nice. Lol
Love that no weird music or spend 30 minutes out of a 40 minutes video explaining what he is doing
Nothing but the sounds of machines the work dose the talking.
Yes, this was a good day for internets forging videos!
It's ASMR goodness
Nothing like a dilute cup of hot TANG after a hard day in the shop....
yeah and no commentary... people likes a simple video without any "relaxing" music
I loved the resonance test. You should do it for every blade.

So creative. Very stunning blade! I wasn't sure where you were going or how you were even going to get there, but you pulled it off beautifully.

Шикарная работа)) радует то что в Сумах есть такие мастера, работами которых восхищаются и за рубежом))
You have outdone yourself with this one, Dmitri! Glad you are watching the Mandalorian like the rest of us!
Has he tho. As its the wrong length and shape. So how is it a good dark saber?? I'm genuinely curious as to why you think it's good??
I’m not sure how I missed this build but I did. Great looking blade.
I watched this video when it first came out. And no probably 20 times since. Just to hear him ring the blade. Awesome everytime
Just finished season two with my 9 year old son. Just watched this with him and his only comment was “Epic”

Bro the coloring is gorgeous. I love how it only reacted to the etched steel, that was really cool.
Was that cold blueing or a parkerizing solution he put on it last with the small brush? Something else?

What chemical was used to darken the inner section of the steel, and what steel combination does that? Its amazing. I'm guessing its a bluing solution but I'm not sure.
I think it is some kind of acid they use to etch the metal.
The chemical is most likely ferric chloride or muriatic acid. Both will reveal the pattern like that.
Looks like a cold blueing liquid, guessing the edge is a stainless so it won’t be affected by it.
its called professional cold blue

I ordered some Beskar from Amazon Empire 2 years ago and I'm still waiting for the delivery.
Welding like that wouldn't trap the air inside and cause a layer of oxide separating the metals?
Beautiful end result.

Probably already been asked, but what 2 steels did you use love to try a similar pattern.
