@heavybending I have listened to many reverb pedal demos and kept coming back to these two Walrus pedals, Slo & Fathom. I finally realized that the Fathom made more sense because it can do some sounds similar to the Slo, but it can also provide the traditional Room, Hall & Plate sounds. So, the Slo is more of a non-traditional reverb, and the Fathom is more of a hybrid.

This video is great! After using my slo consistently I've been thinking of another reverb pedal to give me something different. The fathom really has a lot of exploring features. Def need both. Thank you
These are both fabulous reverbs, and I have them both. I usually use the Slo over the Fathom, to be honest, but the Fathom is a much nicer "traditional reverb". If you like that, you should definitely also check out the Haunted Labs "Dark Aura" modulated reverb. And, since we're shoegazing; you must look into both the Pickletech "Reason" reverb and the Occvlt "Wraith" reverb, both of which are feedback/self-oscillating reverbs.
Thank you so much, I was searching for that kind a comparison 🤗🤗 I love walrus for this kind of pedals. Until now I was playing on multieffet but recently I decided to switch on pedal board system. I also know this is not important but he's made comparisons with the slö and EQD pedals so the fact the polara is digitech shouldn't make too much of a difference. I totally see where you are coming from with the fact that the digitech can be used for more standard reverb sounds while the Slö is more "out there". Just thought it was a fun suggestion
hey dude! i'd love to. still need to get my hands on the polara, i have the rv-7 which is a slightly older digitech reverb & i love it. they make great stuff!
I just ran across this video and the Slo vs Afterneath and I honestly didn't like the Slo until I watched these videos. Exactly what I was trying to find. The KMA Cirrus is also insane if you haven't checked it out, but out of my price range if you can find one. Awesome videos duder!!!!
Of these two I think the slo is the better pick. But even when I had the slow I couldn’t find much practical use for it outside of ambient weird stuff. I Swapped it out for a Strymon Big Sky. Couldn’t be happier. Has all the ambient stuff plus allot of nice reverb sounds to add a bit of color to your choice of playing whether it be rock, metal, blues etc..
ah that's a shame. for me the walrus stuff is on another level, everything they do is perfect in my eyes! i've also really been enjoying the fender reflecting pool for reverbs :)
Slö into fathom or fathom into slö? Any thoughts? :) would you rather use fathom as early chain and slö as end of chain reverb or the other way around?
I just purchased both, right now I’m using the Slo at the beginning of my chain because I like the latching function option early on, the Fathom at the end in Hall is my best all around setting.
@@pedalpartners question: I’m leaning towards the SLO for that vibrato sound. However, I have the holier grail with a wet out. Do you think putting a vibrato after a reverb like that would give you a similar good sound? I’d be using the line 6 MM4 with the expression pedal.
I’m curious about your thoughts on using one of these with an acoustic guitar with pickups, and which one makes the most sense if you had to choose only one (I know, blasphemy…). But still, if you could fit only one on your board, which would you recommend for this kind of setup? Guitar > BodyRez > Corona Chorus > Flashback Delay >Slo or Fathom is the likely chain (minimalist board + tuner).
hmmm the freeze function on the slö (dream mode latching pad) might be really cool with acoustic! i feel like walrus always take what they learn from one pedal & put it into the next i.e. fathom to slö to lore :)
@@pedalpartners I almost did but I didn't because it is a lot of cash and both pedals are pretty much the same. Now I'm hunting for a special chorus, any suggestions?
So i have two questions: 1. What kinds of chords/scales do you tend to use when making this stuff? 2. What are your settings like on the JC-40? Do you crank a particular setting like treble or bass?
I already own the Slo but I've put some serious thought into also buying the Fathom and then running the stereo signals out of my delay pedal into each of them so I'd have Slo on one side and Fathom on the other. Would this work? They'd run in parallel instead of one into the other.
they're definitely unique enough, there's really nothing like using them together. i'm not sure if that would work, depends on your delay, i guess you'll just have to try!
@@pedalpartners I have a Source Audio Nemesis. The plan would have been to send the outs from the Nemesis to two different reverbs, then to two amps or two channels of an interface. Figured the Fathom could fulfill the other side well.
@@kdogg7882 I have no experience with Fathom in a stereo blend situation, but I do have the Boss RE-20 Space Echo (delay) going into the Fathom, the results are magical and long sustaining.
Damn!!! I was torn between the Neunaber Immers and The Walrus Slö, now I want the Fathom as well. I don't know what to buy on those 3 🤣. Great Video by the way.
hi Luca, thank you for teaching me about all the cool gear, now I'm on a quest to sound a bit like the Cocteaus, I'm wondering what do you think of the Slotva? thank you have a nice day!
With mono pedals, how do you achieve such a sweet stereo sound? Are you Duplicating the audio track and modifying something to create that difference? Just curious on your thought process for guitar. Thanks so much for this amazing content. Very soothing!
Thinking about getting the fathom or the ehx cathedral, any thoughts? I love that the cathedral has presets, and I like the tone, but the same can be said for the Fathom; I love water and the fact that its an underwater reverb. And that it has modulation that can make it sound more true to a real reverbs tone and artifacts. Its also compact which is nice. I'm Primarily a rock, pop, lofi, punk and grunge person, but also into ambient and shoegazey stuff - I'm all over the board. If anyone has tried both let me know your thoughts. Also thanks for the video pedal partners, I love the vibes !
i have the ehx holy grail max & like the look of the cathedral too. whilst they do sound great, the walrus audio sounds is unmatched in terms of pure beauty & aesthetic. it's such a nice sound & the modulation really makes everything so dreamy. i would definitely go for the walrus, especially in regards to the ambient & shoegaze side of things. glad you enjoyed the video, thank you!
Pedal partners thanks for replying. You're very right about the walrus pedals doing something very unique. I'll probably end up getting one, but I'm starting to consider the Slo too 😅
@@pedalpartners ended up getting the slo because I already have a basic reverb spring in my amp and a plate/echo in my canyon. I realized I wanted more of a secret weapon than just an average reverb. Thanks again for the video, it definitely helped me a bunch in choosing (something that I often have had trouble with 😂)
@Pedal Partners -- are you running a specific segment/sample through, like, a loop station here, and then simply manipulating that segment/sample with each/both pedals? Was mainly curious if these pedals are recycling a particular segment/sample, or if you're using an additional pedal (like a Boss RC-2, f.ex.) for that. Apologies for the novice question, and thank you for all you do.
no worries at all, good question! most the time nowadays we do live takes, i find when i'm just focusing on demoing a pedal that using a looper (like i have here) helps me focus on displaying each parameter to the fullest extent :)
I just bought the Slo today. Tested in shop and even with a distortion combined to it. Sounds damn good. I now have a question. By considering my main influences alternate between Blues-rock/Hard rock up to metal. Will I have to set endlessly the three preset modes or is it possible to fix it pretty fast? By the way, your video is awesome and you made a great demo of those two reverbs. I fell in love with Walrus straight up. Congratulations and greetings from Belgium ;)
Thanks a lot for the review ! I really love the slö, but I haven't had the chance to test one. When using the freeze, does the audio signal after the freeze is on, feeds in the freezed audio ?
Both of these pedals, as well as the Descent, have some beautiful sounds in them, but I can't help feeling that I would tire of them very quickly. I find any kind of shimmer reverb, whether octave up or octave down, rather gimmicky and quickly annoying. I think maybe if the algorithms applied a formant transform to the octave effect, it might be more interesting.

I have the slo. It's a very cool pedal.
walrus make some of my favourites
@@pedalpartners
There are certain companies that put out good product, and Walrus is one of them.
I was between the two and was thinking to myself it’s a shame no one has made a compa... wow!
I so badly want the Slo...............soon my pretty, soon........
Well done. This video really spelled it all out for me. Thank you!
thanks for watching Michael!
@@pedalpartners just subscribed. Great content.
Can you compare the Jupiter V2 fuzz to the Kangra filter fuzz next?
Love my fathom but it's rather noisy. Did you feel either of these were noisy?
Both, I own both and you should too!
that is the correct answer
You made it happen now it’s real
it's a thing
LOvE your channel! Crying over things you jam, is there a chance to listen to full things?
thank you! i release music through dreamgazerreverberator.bandcamp.com. working on new stuff this year + starting a shoegaze project too! :)
I can't decide. Which one is more useful for worship music?
Thanks for this great video. I have the Fathom and probably will by Slö
thanks so much for watching Willem, go get it!
@@pedalpartners I almost did but I didn't because it is a lot of cash and both pedals are pretty much the same. Now I'm hunting for a special chorus, any suggestions?
I have the Fathom and I love it. But I'm considering getting the Slo just because I love reverb so much.
yes yes welcome to the dark side. more reverb = more better.
So i have two questions:
1. What kinds of chords/scales do you tend to use when making this stuff?
2. What are your settings like on the JC-40? Do you crank a particular setting like treble or bass?
maj7 and sus chords are popular.
@@kdogg7882 i mean give it a go, can imagine it'd be incredibly dreamy
I was prepared to buy the Slo outright, until I heard the underwater mode in the Fathom. Now I want both. Awesome demo!
the modulation on the fathom is so nice
Cool great so I need both thanks
yeah sorry about that unfortunately you do mate!
Damn!!! I was torn between the Neunaber Immers and The Walrus Slö, now I want the Fathom as well. I don't know what to buy on those 3 🤣. Great Video by the way.
more reverb = more better
@@pedalpartners Yep. But no more as well Hahaha!
The question initially for me was, which pedal to buy
But now I can't decide weather I want to travel to the Moon or go deep sea diving 🤔
i like exploring both tbh, the fathom is a sturdy submersible, whilst the slö always takes me to outer space 🌊✨
@@pedalpartners I bought the SLÖ, it is maybe the best pedal I've bought. No regrets here! Takes me beyond the moon even 🙌
hi Luca, thank you for teaching me about all the cool gear, now I'm on a quest to sound a bit like the Cocteaus, I'm wondering what do you think of the Slotva? thank you have a nice day!
hey there! thanks for watching :) the slötva is the same as slö but with presets, depends on your needs whether slö or slötva is best for you!
With mono pedals, how do you achieve such a sweet stereo sound? Are you Duplicating the audio track and modifying something to create that difference? Just curious on your thought process for guitar. Thanks so much for this amazing content. Very soothing!
Roland JC-40 👌
You know, the first part you played with both pedal together kind of reminds me of Minecraft ambiance. Idk why but it has that feeling of wonder
that's a song i'll be releasing through dreamgazerreverberator.bandcamp.com
instagram.com/__dreamgazer
thanks! :)
Fuck now I want both. I have never been disappointed with the fathom but I feel now I should've gotten the slo first.
So dreamy
Congratulations and greetings from Belgium ;)
hey there! thanks for watching, the slö is awesome
This video made me buy both
correct choice.
These are cool. Why aren't they stereo, though?
Thanks a lot for the review !
I really love the slö, but I haven't had the chance to test one. When using the freeze, does the audio signal after the freeze is on, feeds in the freezed audio ?
That opening ambience hit different
thanks my dude, i love it. gunna put it on an ep at dreamgazerreverberator.bandcamp.com
I NEED IIIIIIIIITTTT
lofi into dream sounds similar to the soft focus of an FX500.
that's a nice comparison
I want a strymon big sky real bad but until I got the $$ I'm hoping one of these boutique stomps can do the trick.
these pedals offer something unique
How would you compare to the CBA Dark World?
Will these sound good on a deluxe reverb cause there’s no effects loop?
Hey 😊,
Did you have a looper pedal in the background to keep the sound in motion?
Both of these pedals, as well as the Descent, have some beautiful sounds in them, but I can't help feeling that I would tire of them very quickly. I find any kind of shimmer reverb, whether octave up or octave down, rather gimmicky and quickly annoying. I think maybe if the algorithms applied a formant transform to the octave effect, it might be more interesting.
Shimmer verb has been done to death. The octave down is way more subtle (and not an icepick to the brain) which makes it much more usable.
@@markruark2523 Oh, definitely.
@@markruark2523 I tend to use my slow with the X all the way down on dark the most ... Which makes me feel like I should own a fathom instead lol
Well, dang it, now I'm gonna have to get both! 🤣
that's the correct answer! ;)
any views on which would be better for bass?
