I bought after viewing another video review so I was doubly excited to know it was on the way after watching your incredibly in-depth review. Well done, the best effect demo I’ve ever viewed!
Hey I just ordered this pedal and all thanks to you and your wonderful video. I feel like this Walrus pedal has that vintage gew factor. Thank you so much.
Great video as always. Im so glad they made this update for the Slo. But am I the only one who thinks it would be nice to have expression pedal control of the "x" control?
The Dark mode is my favorite, loved the Sonar version on the Fathom. Having the dry signal hard panned to one side gives sound a really cool movement. I'm not a shimmer verb enjoyer at all, but turning the stretch down on the Light mode makes it real nice. The Rain mode reminds me of EQD's Afterneath.
Just discovered, liked, and subbed. Fantastic demo!!! Already have a blue sky, and cloudburst, but I think it's very likely I'm gonna get this. Your demo is excellent. Keep doing what you're doing, the way you're doing it.
I imagine Mark, waiting endlessly in his studio: "when is it coming out??! I NEED it to play my style of guitar!" All the people at Walrus: "Guys, let's finally give the pedal to Mark!"
call me crazy but I swapped my big sky out for this for church guitar lol. nothing beats the big sky but man it just lacks that character I want out of my tone. got this one a few days ago and in love with it. messing with the latching dream sound is so cool
You convinced me to buy one of these, sounds awesome. Along with the Guitar Bonedo demo too. Really looking forward to fitting it into a clean stereo Vox AC amp rig. Along with a Soma Cosmos, Mood mk.II, Polymoon and UAFX reverb.
So far I haven’t found anything that beats SLO. I’ve been running a 1’st gen SLO alongside a Slotva to get stereo. Thinking of requesting this one for Christmas 😊
Fathom is fantastic. I wish it were in stereo also, but recently I've been making use of the mono by putting it before an Eons fuzz and it sounds wild as hell on every setting
I love your guitar playing. I love these reviews too. Relaxed, thorough and informative. PS Have you heard about the Polyverbs which has IR's to die for.
You really need to consider doing a masterclass in music production… every time I watch/listen to an intro I’m inspired to run into battle/take the dogs for a walk
@@markjohnstonofficial it’s very nice! It’s certainly a particular flavor, but you have a pretty wide range of algorithms to keep it interesting. I think I have had it for about 3 years now and don’t plan to get rid of it anytime soon. It just has so much analog mojo on top of the great vintage reverb alogorithms. Very polished sound. Built in chorus sounds great, too. I just wish you had a little control over the rate/depth of the chorus, otherwise it’s perfect. 👨🍳 💋
Sounds lovely BUT I don't understand why pedal builders are not using MIDI like the Illumine Reverb for example or at least one TRS controlled jack to change from preset to preset.
Slõer or Dark Light? Now I’m totally confused when it comes to this question. Its a lovely problem to have though. Thanks for another brilliant review!
Really great video! I do have a question though, I am new to this whole pedal world and I am a bit confused, what exactly does the canvas stereo bring to the sound? Is it necessary to use this pedal?
Love you channel, I learn so much from your videos. I would like to hear if you hand a take on Peace Hill FX Preamp pedals. I got one going into the Ox Stomp….amazing
I really wish this pedal had presets. There is so much that you can do with it from song to song (or even within a single song) that makes manual adjustments painful. Beautiful pedal!
Would you get this or the Cloudburst? I have a Strymon Volante, a Caroline Météore, and an EQD Afterneath and would maybe move the Afterneath to make room for one of these two.
just swapped out my big sky for this pedal. big sky is objectively better but they are such different pedals its hard to compare. this one has lot’s of character, and the reverb sounds are more unique and cool. however, if you play live a lot and don’t like messing with knobs, it might be a little annoying. big sky has the versatility and can cover every base super well. I am a little frustrated with the lack of versatility this thing has when it comes to live playing, but it makes up for that with it’s crazy modulation and unique sounds. TLDR: big sky if you need versatility and really good, easy-to-access sounds. sloer if you want crazy ambience, unique reverbs that you wont find elsewhere, and tons of modulation options.
Wild that I have to say it again; the modulation speed is NOT fixed. The depth control has a secondary control that changes the speed of the modulation. It’s in the manual and we demonstrate changing it IN THIS VIDEO.
lets boykott any digital pedalmaker who puts out a DIGITAL mono pedal in 2023. cmon, flying cars. while your at it: 3,5mm midi. CV. you are selling us. the same lame dsp computer with a couple of buttons and switches running a nice plugin. cmon. slöer: might be the 10th dsp pedal on the board. Price is nice. Not going over 400 just becaus its stereo... double sound, double price. you hear me TE, Eventide?
I don’t have opinions nearly this strong. Not everyone wants stereo / midi (hell, I DONT want 3.5mm midi I want 5pin or I want TRS at the smallest), and I care more about builders and DSP engineers getting the sound right and then working out their feature set as a secondary thought. SLO and Slotva are great if you want mono, limiting for me because I usually want stereo reverb but again, we have the luxury of choice for a reason.
@markjohnstonofficial Exactly. For example I don't care about stereo or midi [ at least not currently ],whereas fx loops is what I'm looking for in pedals, reverbs and delays especially. Good codes are rare but the inclusion of an fx loop can turn any poor reverb algorithm into something very decent. Filters do the trick.
Except you took an ambient reverb and turned it into an aggressive dude indie rocks track. And, I'm sorry, but you're playing with the faders too much, not letting the pedal breathe. I support this channel but sometimes you're doing too much but each to his own I guess. Sometimes you do let a pedal do it's thing too which is why this is so baffling. It's just a youtube channel so I shouldn't be too bothered but I was generally interested in hearing your take on this much anticipated pedal. Sorry.
One of the best intros on this channel!!!
And outros! 🫨🫀🫸🤛🌘🌛🌠
and that says a lot
Your sound has improved a lot. Not because of gears but your musicianship. Cheers!!
If Mark say’s “deeply elated” you can bet before you even hear it, “it” is going to be
“F I R E”. 🎸🔥
you're like the mark johnston of pedal demos
Tell that to Brian
beat me to it.
These intros are just special--wonderful musicianship
Thank you!
I’m with you, Slo would’ve been on my board already if it had been in stereo. Very excited to add Sloer.

I just ordered it! How happy will I be???
Great video as always. Im so glad they made this update for the Slo. But am I the only one who thinks it would be nice to have expression pedal control of the "x" control?
I love when new pedals come out just so I can hear your intros!!
Superb video mate and greatly appreciated. Thoroughly enjoyed the intro tune also! Cheers
I feel very well informed on the operation of this pedal! You did your homework - well done… and, great sound scapes👏😁!

I'm not a shimmer verb enjoyer at all, but turning the stretch down on the Light mode makes it real nice. The Rain mode reminds me of EQD's Afterneath.
I'm very tempted to sell my Slo, Fathom and Aftermath to get the Sloer. Seems it can do a pretty good job of what I use those 3 for all in one box
Reverb is the new overdrive
love the intro song 👍 and cant wait for monday when my slöer will arrive - my synths will love it 🥰
Dude very well played, awesome stuff, loved the dream setting.
The intro jam is crazy beautiful!
Dude it sounds amazing on an acoustic too
Sound in the end - pure joy🙌🚀🌌

Came here for a product review that caught my eye, and was absolutely floored by the beautiful intro. Subscribed for more.
sounds so incredible, why'd i sleep on this pedal
I really want a BIG, ambient reverb, and this is certainly on my short-list
This is what I’ve been waiting for!
Was hoping for a stereo version as well 👍🏻 I’ve got a blue version coming this weekend 😎🖖🏻
Superb talent and demonstration
Nice. I'll have to try this alongside my Walrus R1.
I imagine Mark, waiting endlessly in his studio: "when is it coming out??! I NEED it to play my style of guitar!" All the people at Walrus: "Guys, let's finally give the pedal to Mark!"
That’s truer than you think.

Intro is fire. Goodbye Strymon
Reminds me of 28 weeks later soundtrack. Awesome intro track man.
For real
amazingly almost shy and so powerfully wonderful!!
WOW! Loved the opening!!!
This will be my tutorial. Mega thankyou, Maestro ❤

Just grabbed an open box black style off eBay. Pumped to try it out. Thanks for the great video.
How did it go?
@@Grindstaff09 Excellent piece of equipment. Thanks.
Wow this pedal (black box version) sold out quick! Great demo of it, as always your tones were superb
Plenty on Reverb for MSRP
they'll no doubt make a 2nd batch to sell, happens all the time with modern pedals now.
it does look better i think, the non moons version. and i luv the moon!
That intro song is outstanding!!!! Well done
Mark Jónsiton, nice bow work.
Great music as always... I remember watching you when you demo the specular tempus...blew me away man...so inspiring 🤘👍

Neunaber Immerse Mk.II beats the SLO.
Never thought I'd say this but I think the slöer is going to replace my dark star😮
My dream would be a *ARP-87 + Fathom* combination. They go together so well.
Fathom is fantastic. I wish it were in stereo also, but recently I've been making use of the mono by putting it before an Eons fuzz and it sounds wild as hell on every setting
Really interesting, I took lots of notes!
That reverb just sounds so damn good! It's like moody indie film music in a box

The rise also had me drifting off on some distant horizon. Stunningly ethereal
Wow, great composition man!
Just bought a mercury 7 and honestly I'm considering trading it in for this
That decay on Dream mode is stunning...................................................
Ooh, this is nice. I have been wanting a nice modern reverb to complement my OTO Bam. I like the modulation a lot.
Ahhh the BAM is aspirational. I have been vying for one for years.

This intro was Holy Fawn asf
Great, as always.
Immediately bought the black version. 🖤🌙
is it a solid black, or a chocolate black?
@@xiaoxia5It looks solid black to me. It's also a little bit smaller than I thought it would be.
Nicely done!

no way you got one too? did NOT see that coming.
just bit the bullet and ordered a SLO (the little one) during this demo
imagine this pedal with a chase bliss MOOD and/or Microcosm. you could probably make about 12 Ambient albums in a year.
Yip, or Soma Labs Cosmos, Mood mk.II and this, you could make 50 albums in a year, and take 2 weeks off for Christmas, or mastering :)
i'd make an album a day.
Postrock heaven!
sounds good

There are presets. I should have covered that, but like with the Slotva it’s based on there are three presets that can be saved and recalled.
@@markjohnstonofficial Awesome!
MIDI will be in their next version I betcha
great enthusiasm. may i ask, in this context what the stereo canvas pedal does for things? thanks! just so curious about that one too.
Would you get this or the Cloudburst? I have a Strymon Volante, a Caroline Météore, and an EQD Afterneath and would maybe move the Afterneath to make room for one of these two.
it sounds good! but already own a cxm1978 and mood MK2.....overkill? (never enought reverbs haha)
Violin bow sales going through the roof after this one. 😂
All it needs now is expression control on all their pedals + midi
PPS. It's Polyeffects VERBS.
as far as fun factor goes, which would you buy first, the Slöer, or the Nocturnal from Collision Devices?
My god. Sounded straight out of a post rock album
Dark dark dark the reverb to me was overcome, regardless of it being in stereo.
Hopefully they release a Slöest and it has inbuilt expression input haha
I think it would have to be the slöerist
Great demo as always! ... and beautiful Les Paul!! What are the specs on that?
Historic ‘59 reissue. Borrowed from a friend and I am endeavoring to never return it
@@markjohnstonofficial Lol, I don't blame you one bit! What a beautiful R9! Thanks for sharing.
is this still built around the Spin FV-1 chip like the old Slo?
is this most like hall / plate or room reverb?
❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
Meris LVX + Slöer + shrooms = :)
Jimmy Page goal... achieved. Sounds insane!!!!
Dumb question: other than color, what is the difference between black/blue?
Just the color
@@markjohnstonofficial Thanks!
