Hell no a hybrid is not better than the tdi the tdi are really reliable and have a shit load of torque abd theirs a reason why semis use diesel and not your lil non reachin 100k hybrids..
You guys need to realize that the Touareg hybrid is not like your ordinary Prius. It utilizes the hybrid engine to offer better performance. You think they would put a supercharged 3.0 V6 in hybrid to save gas? LOL. No. It's the same with the Porsche Cayenne. It's a performance hybrid, and you'd like it if you drove it. But, I like the diesel more.
They're both about the same size interior-wise, the Q5 is a tad smaller, almost unnoticeable when inside the car, and the fuel economy is much better. Price-wise, the Touareg will come in around $55,000USD fully loaded, whereas the Q5 will be around $46,000, fuel-economy wise, the TDI and 2.0T should be about the same, yet the 2.0T should pull the Q5 faster by about .5 of a second to 60mph.
@TheUltramarine55 I just traded a 2008 4.8 X 5 for the Touareg Exec model. The VW with would seem as only 280 HP really is quick since it has an 8 speed transmission. It rides great, the interior frankly is nicer than the X5. A couple of things that should be corrected. The Ipod/Iphone adapter is in the glovebox. Bad location should be in center console. The rearview cameras were not installed on the 2012's due to lack of supply of the cameras. They have a radar system instead. Overall = Great!
it's curious the Diesel gets better MPG and has better toque delivery. I don't think VW built this car (hybrid)to be sold in any real numbers. Why would anyone buy it?

3 liter supercharged Audi V6 is an award winning engine. Been around for 10 years now. Plus, IMO, it looks a lot better than a Q5.

This is an Audi 3.0 V6 TDI engine (literally) encased in a lighter vehicle with an equally plush interior -- for about $7K lower than an Audi Q7 TDI.
I am told that Diesel engines dont match up to electric motors well. Their power curves are similar and leave a big hole where HP is supposed to be.
Firstly why would anyone choose this over the diesel? secondly why not a diesel hybrid?
