David Byrne is nearly 70...and still actively performing. Before COVID, he had a very successful show on Broadway called American Utopia, which featured modern takes on his years of music. Early this year, he performed two AMAZING songs from the show on SNL:

Judging by your reactions lately, I'm thinking Weezer and Tom Petty are resonating with you right now and they are both great rabbit holes to fall into for a while. There is plenty of brilliant music being made today. The rise of self-release/soundcloud/youtube means that the barrier to admission of releasing music is narrower than it's ever been, so there's exponentially more shit being released alongside it and drowning it out a bit. I think music back in the day had a steadier margin of quality due to the gatekeeping of the record labels, but today seems to have a few higher highs but admittedly much lower lows.

From the same album as this, "Listening Winds" is particularly beautiful and eerie. From their album "Fear of Music", "Life During Wartime" is great. But I actually like everything I have heard from them, so I will keep my list of suggestions to these two rather than ending up listing every song they did. The singer/dancer in this video is David Byrne. He also deserves props for getting a lot of wonderful music from around the world out on his record label Luaka Bop -- Brazilian music, Afro-Peruvian music, Asian music, funky psychedelic music from West Africa, etc. So not only can he sing and dance strangely, he can else run a record company that helps musicians from around the world to get a broader hearing.

It was very intentional. Imagine early days of MTV and people are mostly doing dance videos (before people were doing productions with budgets and shit), and David Byrne is like "what if I forced you to watch me being a fucking weirdo" He did similar shit but different on stage. All goofy, all intentionally so.

This is one of those videos that used to come on PBS before MTV around 1979. Even earlier was the Queen Bohemian Rhapsody
    Talking Heads Are Awesome
Maybe try to see one of their live concerts where he's doing life during wartime in either 1981 or 82 those ones are pretty fun to watch.

The Talking Heads were so quirky and brilliant. They never tried to fit in to any 'genre' of music. They just were their own thing. (btw....I met David Byrne in the 90's. He could not have been any nicer or cooler, and I didn't even let on that I knew who he was. Such a sweet, nice man!)

"Take Me to the River." 🎵
Cool, strange sound bk in '78. Lead singer freaky bc of the head twitches and rolling eyes and the girl bass player dressed in white hospital clothes with a strange stare. Cool, slow heavy base line with lots 'o keys too. Just all around DIFFERENT.

The woman who sang "Mickey", Toni Basil, choreographed his moves for this video (basically, she taught him how to do the movements the African people in the background film are doing), and added a few other movements to emphasize the disconnection between a man and the life he's living. This song (and video) are basically Existentialism 101. He's a weird guy, but he's also a VERY smart guy to be able to break down a school of philosophy into a 4-minute pop song you can get down to.

'And she was' is a nice song about his neighbor who dropped acid all the time and 'road to nowhere' has a great chant at the beginning, the company said their song was too short so at the last minute they made the chant up in a few minutes and added it, rofl!
