absolutely .. that song was a musical pillar of my youth, love it. Little did I know back then that song was trying to warn me about what the every day working world (and basically everything that comes with it) would have in store for me, but I still love that song.
And not to 'dog pile' on how this whole year has been for us all, but "same as it ever was..same as it ever was..look where my hand was.." really kinda holds true for us lately. Relax, my hand was just under the hand sanitizer dispenser ;)

Talking Heads drummer Chris Frantz and bass player Tina Weymouth, married since 1977, are big fans of funk. When they went to a P-Funk show at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the crowd started chanting, "Burn down the house, burn down the house" (this is before "The Roof Is on Fire"), which gave Frantz the idea for the title. As he explained in a 1984 interview with National Public Radio (NPR), he and Weymouth created the original track in a jam, then took it to the band where they refined the groove. To form the lyrics, they picked words that fit the rhythms, which is why the words don't make a lot of sense. This is common practice in the world of funk, where you don't want the lyric to get in the way of the groove on a feel-good song.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, but the name Talking Heads comes from slang of the 60s and 70s that used the term to refer to newscasters, politicians, and salesmen on TV, which the generation of that time often felt there was no distinction between the three, more often than not. It was the dawn of mistrust of the media for the TV Generation. But because you only saw these news anchors and pitchmen and politicians usually from the neck up, the term 'talking head' was used by that generation to derisively refer to the 'mainstream' and corporate America. The band, being art school nerds, adopted it ironically.

Yasss! The lead singer is utterly iconic! He was amazing with Talking Heads and amazing as a solo artist after them! He’s current concert concept in on Broadway and Spike Lee filmed it, you can watch it on HBO Max. Check it! Also, back in the day his concert film (w/Talking Heads) called, Stop Making Sense. You’ll trip out, Leo! ✨✌🏻

This was a good reaction to this music video by Talking Heads. If you get the chance to do so, you will want to react to Talking Heads' music video/concert performance for their song, "Girlfriend Is Better". It has a great dance groove to it.

This song will always remind me of the storm that knocked out the power while having a huge party.
Everybody had candles and thought for sure the old 2 flat was going to get burn down.
    Yes this song was blasting.
    Great time great memories!
We definitely had the best parties!!!

It's so exciting to see you getting into them. They're an incredibly cool band. I love them. The reason their videos are so surreal is because most of them went to art school, and they're terribly creative. ☮️💜☮️

Good reactions. Try this "LUCKY MAN" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Gary Lake wrote this when he was 12 years old. 2012 Remastered version. Get smoked up first!!!!!!

Know the song, don't remember ever seeing the video. Probably because my older brother had it on tape or LP and Mtv wasn't available yet in the Netherlands. Cool, I like the ballroom scene.. That whole ceiling is one big chandelier. Was thinking of hanging a chandelier in my restroom. Maybe I just need to do the whole ceiling like that.. woahhh..

Funny story. Back when this song was new my girl was throwing a house party and someone dropped a cig in the couch and nobody noticed until it was flaming! Dudes threw the couch out the front door and everyone came out to sing Burning down the couch!

Yup don't worry too much about their freaky promos, the music is so FUNKY. Maybe check out some of their live video next, anything from their concert film 'Stop making sense'. The title is a clue, don't try to dig for some narrative meaning in a lot of their songs, just go with the groove. David Byrne the singer is just out there, so unique, a genius oddball.

Talking Heads, mid to late 70's early punk. The are part of the rabbit hole that leads to some REALLY Good late 70's to early 80's music like Blondie. Very much "Reefer Madness" era songs.

80's music videos and early 90's were a LOT of "art" concepts for the videos. It was another way to showcsse visual artisry.
