Looking great. My biggest error on my latest was only using red oxide for one so after chipping everything was just red.haha.Next time ill definitely combine some black and brown. That idea of using primer after the salt is also a great tip. Thanks 👍

Oh no about your red car! But that's why I've been trying to emphasize the different layers. You could also make up a story where maybe the car got one of those cheap Earl Schibe paint jobs that was pealing off? Don't forget the flat clear over 'bare metal' layer

This was rather fun to watch. I like seeing how other guys do their rusty models. A little different than me & my techniques but similar in a lot of ways to.
Too bad or sad no one will ever see any of my many "rusty or crusty" tutorials ever again.
You got the facts correct at least compared to most - as if you're smart n know better than most lol. I'm taking about the northern cars compared to the southern cars, about how "chips" are normally on the front of cars, the sun fading, and the areas rust/fades... You also have a knack for speaking/talking about everything to. You're a man of multiple talents and backgrounds.
Oh damn, the birds are starting to wake up and chirp already now!!! It's only 4:17am! Damn things: time to get the earplugs out! Or go to bed... think I'll just get those plugs (having too much fun watching videos!) 😁

Thank you Gary! They are fun to watch, so many different ways to get those similar results. Do you have any of yours saved of a flash drive or anything? There might be a way to start things back up. Plus your skills and talents are still there to make new ones.
I've been a car guy most of my life, that helps me with a lot of the weathering. I'm glad clarified the smart thing, cause I've certainly done my share of dumb mistakes! But rusty cars I know well lol.
I hate it when those birds start chirping and I haven't been to sleep yet!

    • @garytanck
      @garytanck 2 месяца назад +1

@@pappytinkers Hi. It makes sense if you've always been a car guy, but not everyone of them like or love rust... I grew up in Wisconsin and talk about rust lol. My first car was badly rusted to, besides watching Dad's station wagons rusting away to, I guess it grows on guy like me, to love it. Old farm tractors and machinery to, because of an uncle (dad's brother) helping him when I was younger. But most everything I learned about cars when I was young was from Dad & oldest brother. Lots of stories there! My brother taught me so much. I was around 13/14 when I helped him rebuild an engine for his truck. It was an old 77 f150 and he got a 460 from an older Mercury. After helping with the crank I remember him showing me how to put the pistons & connecting rods in, using the ring clamp, little rubber boots on the rods so not to scratch the crank journals and tapping the in with a rubber mallet... Yep, he watched as I did all 7 remaining assemblies in. The manual torque wrench and that big old Chilton boom to. And his young 12/13 yo neighbor girl Jessica,,, I remember most everything from those days 😉
I drove that same truck s few times, borrowing it. It had over 300,000 miles since we built it, the truck was pretty ruff by then to, with the roof even being bent back up, fixed, after he rolled it over in a ditch (swerving for a mother duck & her babies crossing the road 😁😆 he got teased allot for it but I'd probably been in the same spot myself: love animals. But he was a big deer hunter tho) anyway, just trying to cross a side street from a stop sign, I pushed the gas a little harder than usual and damn, even with 36" mud tires, both started spinning so easy it was nuts first car I remember doing anything like that in was his 72 Ford Grand Torino. I was 7 or 8 MAYBE. OMG! Both tires smoking and the car fishtailing... First recollection of COOL! It was a crazy hot rodded car!
As for my older video, I do have some, here n there on flash drives and my old crumputer. Others on the cloud in Google. Much of my latest stuff was only on RUclips.
You made me laugh about those damn birds chirping so early in the morning. I had to think, "I didn't post that video yet, did I?" LOL. Just last week I said the same on video one early morning filming my cat Marvin laying on my paperwork for work, next to me, and it just started getting light out. Ironically I just started hearing them now, waking up 😁 . Means it's time to hit the hay.
I was thinking of ways to share all my stuff on a different platform to - I've got SO MANY pictures I took of my models over the years in Google photos. No one sees them much otherwise.
There's a few subjects here in boxes at the cabin I can make new vids with tho, like you said, starting over. But in a way it's also just continuing on.
If you have Gmail account I can "share" many photo albums with you.
I also have a Pinterest site, but haven't kept up lately, last few years, on it. I should update that to. I'll look for my link and email it to you to.
Pretty tired Doug, I was typing to get a bunch of video uploaded to my YT last night. I didn't get ANY building done because of it, I was looking forward to it to but now I gotta sleep. It's still raining lightly since Friday now. Good sleeping weather!
Thanks for writing back. It's nice to find other model builders into the same stuff, but nice ones who actually write back and have common ground between is better.
I like your video on the mental health you did. Could tell you were sincere and really care! MUCH MORE than I can say for almost the entire majority of the so-called model building community. I truly felt left out of it all, way before I lost the channel even.
I think I have you email I'll send you something.
I know it sounds odd, but even just a minute ago, because of my brain problems, I forgot I was writing to you on a video comment, and not an email or something. It's just the way my brain is now since my work injury.
I'll check back at you later friend.
      Gary

@@garytanck I still love those big old Chilton's books! I was so bummed last year when I found my favorite one had been ruined by a leaky garage roof. That has saved my butt many times! When I got my first car at 15, my grandma gave me a Reader's Digest version of it, one of my favorite gifts of all time! Every page has grease on it lol. The next year I had a neighbor that did mechanical and body work. Spent many hours with him doing the same things you said with engines, bodies and we even built a kit car out of an old VW bug. He had a snap on route and he would pay me with used tool trade ins. A great education!
Thank you for the compliments on the mental health vid. First responders and military see a lot of things that we wish we could forget. I've got a lot of experience trying to understand the problems that someone with brain damage has and how it changes them, even though every situation is different. I don't think I have your email but send me yours and I might have ideas on how to get you back on the platform
