- How hard is CRNA school? How hard is the math? What makes it so stressful? I answer all of these questions and more in this video! I also talk about burnout and what has been the hardest thing for me so far!
About me:
I am a 3rd year SRNA & ICU nurse. I went to nursing school to get my ADN, started working and then went back for my BSN. I was a travel nurse for 2 years before starting CRNA school. I loved travel nursing so much but I also love anesthesia so I went back to school to become a CRNA. I plan to continue my travel nursing career when I become a nurse anesthetist! Fitness is also a huge part of my life. I've competed in powerlifting and Crossfit. Jon and I own a gym together! We are also foster parents to dogs and (soon to be) children!

Hi everyone!!! I hope you're having a great weekend! I finally showed you some MATH!! What do you think the hardest thing about school is?
Consistent 30 minute study sessions while trying to balance exercise. Class lecture method. I used to write. I'm contemplating a recorder for fall semester. Inspiration for run study. (E.g. doodle organs, colorful summaries). Motivation.
Oh and budgeting at the beginning of every month. I just spend all it on vending machines and rosehipseed oil etc.
I think the hardest thing in school for students is to keep themselves self motivated when things get tough . But rather students should realise when there are tough situations , the tough get going.
If I want to become CRNA, am I required to go to a medical school??
Math was my worst subject growing up. I learned to focus and practice it over and over again to improve. The physics and math equations can be overwhelming in CRNA school but it's manageable if you're persistent.
I know what you mean! You have to just keep at it.
You made me feel better
Thank you 🥺🙏🏽💉
Is a relive to hear this… I’m in my BSN second time taking general Chemistry 1 I also struggled with math. But I will try to be more careful studying organizing preparing myself ahead with time management when I decide to go into CRNA school in my own university. This is the goal I’m an average student but I can do so much better if I focus and organized. Study study study! 🙏🏽💪🏾
Thank you for this, math definitely my worst enemy 😂
Brains and beauty! 😍 Congrats again on finishing your second year. So proud of you. - Your #1 fan.
🥰🥰🥰🥰
I am a former ADN, RN, working in Ortho/Med Surg/, because I was told to have one to one and a half years of Med Surg experience.before going into my passion....OB. My son is in an ADN program,
and will graduate this May!! I recently found your channel. My son is considering the path you went down. I have enjoyed your vlogs and I am continuing! You and your hub are inspiring! You both do so much with what looks like ease. That is wonderful. God bless you both!! Kelly S.

When you talked about how “motivation doesn’t make success, discipline does” I just felt that feeling you get when someone saying one little sentence just shakes up your entire existence and moral reasoning (in a good way)😱😱😱
I start CRNA school next month. I am excited, anxious and nervous all in one.
Yay so excited for you! That's how we all felt lol. You're going to do great!
M.Randa can you explain the process?
Congratulations M.Randa! Working in ICU right now, looking for confidence boosters! Thanks for sharing!
How has CRNA School been going for you?
Just saw this comment which means you're almost done with your first year! Keep up the hard work!
I’m already stressing thinking about all of the stress😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Same and I’m only in 11th grade
omg me too
You remind me of my wife when we met. We met after she finished her residency 20 years ago. Her smile, great attitude, and love for God really got my attention. She is smart, humble, wise, and very carrying and has a nack for explaining and teaching, as you do. Thanks for the sharing.
I feel like I BARELY made it though nursing school.... Just starting looking into CRNA and enjoy your videos but am already shaking in my boots
GamingItOldSchool do you currently work in the ICU ?
@@darkoshmarko no not yet.
Omg I am dying!!!! That math was so simple girl. That was my main concern about becoming a CRNA but now it's not. Now I amore concerned about the research part and maintiang a B. 😩 I can do this!!!
You can do it!!
@@TheSchoellerFamily what math statistics and calc 1?
I truly love your realistic, honest, relatable approach to becoming a CRNA.
My question pertains to being an older non traditional student. I’m 43 now so most likely will be closer to 50 when I compete CRNA school. What was the age demographic in your class?
You are so inspiring! My husband is starting his CRNA clinicals this week! I am just starting out on my journey and finishing up my prerequisites for nursing school. Watching him go through CRNA school has inspired me to become a CRNA, too!! Love your videos!
I am a freshmen in high school and i would love to be a nurse anesthetist. The thing i struggle with is stress, but i hope that i won’t give up during college and crna school. Thank you for keeping me motivated to finish high school and go to nursing school! :)
Glad you are going for it! Find positive ways to channel your stress, my favorite is exercise!
Rhianna Ferial Thanks for the tip!
When you said "87 to pass" I got so nauseous 😂
Same girl same
@dicax that's wayy too high for a passing grade
chuuya's wife not when u literally putting ppl to sleep. I wouldn’t like this profession to be saturated it’s ppl that have a gpa below 3.8/4
Nelson Rodriguez I totally get that, I feel the same.
@@chuuyaswife4255 yeah god forbid someone that is managing your airway during surgery should have to be competent
To what little I've read; I think the most stressful thing wont be the school but the hands on, like fast problem solving & I'm scared my anxiety will take over and self sabotage..
That is true, it can be very stressful. I've struggled with anxiety too but it gets better with experience and knowledge.
@@TheSchoellerFamily maybe this was THE comment I was looking for. Thanks a lot, Always.
I've just recently discovered your channel and I'm so so so so amazed at all of the things you manage to juggle at once and at how successful you already are! I'm currently a BSN student wishing to pursue the CRNA route in the future and you bring so much inspiration to me! Keep shining, girl!!!!!!
😭😭💓💓 thanks so much girl that is too sweet! Good luck in school!
are you still becoming a CRNA now?
You make a great nurse...your attitude is top-notch. Thank you so much for taking out of the little spare time you have to make this. I know it can't be easy for you. God bless you!!!
Thank you so much 😊
Great description of the difference between motivation vs. discipline 👍🏼
Oh yeah, and statistics is a swear word in my house 😹thanks for the videos!
I never want to do stats again haha
Ohhh I like how you emphasized discipline! You’d think motivation is key but nope she opened up my mind 🤯
Thank you so much for doing these videos! I am trying to learn everything I can about the profession before I go to school myself and I really appreciate you taking the time to talk about your journey.
You're so welcome! ♡
I take it from the order you did the problem, there's supposed to be a parenthesis around (goal Hct - starting Hct). Otherwise that should have been done last
Yeah I was confused as well but did that too! Now it’s fine
Thankyou so much for your videos and the reality of CRNA school..Im a 2nd year nursing student in New Zealand and really interested in CRNA as a future career .. i have 3kids and its already challenging as it is but you are so right with being disciplined.. i hope I can do it after a few years of experience as an RN.. but i will definitely keep following you and THANKYOU for this ❤️❤️ your Amazing and so motivating !!
You can do it!!! That's awesome!
Holy cow! The research lab I worked in for my molecular biology undergraduate had us doing a dilution calculation to then dilute another solution then concert to molar mass dry weight and then resuspend a solution for mice treatments. Hated that so much at the time, but glad now that I’ve got dilutions on lock😂😂😂
🥵🥵🥵🥵
After seeing that math I feel a lot better! I was really worried about the math as I’m considering this route in my career.
Good questions to ask a graduate school program:
What is the attrition rate? Schools are required to disclose the board pass rate. 17 ppl flunked out of my class (all most all of them were during didactics). The cost is higher during didactics. They had to pay back the loans
How you determine primary clinical assignments? Autonomy (learning opportunities) will be different at different clinical sites
Do have rotations outside the primary clinical site? This will have financial consequences. You might have to rotate to a hospital in another state because the primary site can not provide all the experiences needed. Some extra rotations are for regional and are not offered in all programs
Statistics was hard! Thanks for your video :) you motivate me
So hard! I hated it in undergrad too! Lol
Thanks for the stress lol
😂😂😂
Dang. I barely passed the first semester of my BSN program (min of 75). Really gotta step up my game
For me, I'm most nervous about the anesthesia machine. I'm not mechanically inclined, well I can't say that exactly. I've never BEEN mechanically inclined. But I know I could learn it. But I've just not ever been exposed to that kinda stuff. And I'm nervous about the hazing.
Same! You get used to it because you use it so much. We had several lectures on it in the beginning as well.
Congrats on starting your 3rd year!!! You’re going to be a CRNA in no time!! I’m happy for you! I know that you are inspiring people all over the world! Have a great week!!! Much love from Oklahoma!!! 💖💖
Thank you so much!!! 💜💜💜
So glad to see you've earned your green badge! Way to go, Rhianna!
Thanks Mark!!!
Gosh you inspire me so much, I've wanted to be a CRNA for so long. I'm only in high school but still❤.
Awe thank you! You have a bright future ahead of you!! ❤️
Please make a video dedicated to the importance of discipline and the facade of motivation!! I replayed that part because it really resonate with me as I struggled coming to the realization of how greatly motivated come and gos

I dont think PEMDAS was considered during the first equation

Great and informative video! I am definitely concerned about some things in the program. #1 the time commitment (by the time I enter a program, my youngest child will be in middle school and my middle child in HS, oldest child in college). I worry about missing out on my middle and youngest's HS years and all those important milestones in their lives at that time. #2 I am concerned about the grading scale. I tend to get in the high B/low A range but it takes EFFORT for sure. It requires time and discipline and to carry that on for 3 years running is intimidating. Thanks again for the info and congrats on the green badge!❤
The time commitment is the hardest thing about it but with good time management you can get by! I would definitely ask the school about away rotations because that is very time consuming and hard on families. My school has all of the clinical sites within 15 mins of the school so we don't have to worry about that. Thanks for the congrats! 😊
Hey question!? So what type of science do you need to become a crna, and do you need alot of biology?
Biology, anatomy & physiology, chem and physics 😊
I have no idea what you did and have a lot of questions but i am so invested in learning that was amazing
Such an informative and extremely helpful summary on these main points. Thank you so much for sharing! Also, congratulations on your success- you will make an amazing CRNA 🎉
Thank you!
Congrats on your green badge status! So cool!
I'm nervous about the science--chemistry and/or physics. I took research stat in undergrad so some programs will accept that. As far as lifestyle, I'm terrified of oversleeping for morning classes & clinicals! I'm a very heavy sleeper. This doesn't affect me now as I've been working nights since I've been a nurse (it's easy to get up for nights for me) but school + stress + knowing being early = on time in anesthesia/OR world is a concern for me. I worry I will sacrifice sleep to avoid oversleeping, but that will hinder my ability to retain information & perform well. If given my dream opportunity to be accepted into a program I will find a way to make it work, but I think about this often.
Thank you! I used to worry about oversleeping too and I still set like 3 alarms lol but you get used to it!
Flippcrazy, look into getting a deaf alarm pillow. I'm not sure what the technical term for it is. It is designed for deaf people, but I've been told they greatly help waking up deep sleepers. Good luck!
Thank you so much for this video!! IT is So Helping!! So much details and now i can picture how SRNAs life are like now!! ^^
Congratulations on being a 3rd year SRNA!! I think the motivation and maybe the math for me!! I plan on retaking a basic Chemistry class and basic Stats. With doing a few higher stats classes to help me. I may be over prepared!!
Thank you!!! You can never be over prepared!
Motivation does not cause success, discipline does. That is the bottom line. Great talk!
Wow! I'm totally shocked that the math is not crazy difficult. Thanks sharing
You're welcome!
The math in medical feild is never that complicated, even for pharmacists. The miss challenging part about becoming anything in the medical field is remembering pathophysiology and applying knowledge in real life scenarios under stressful situations
Congrats on almost being done, I bet that you and ur husband are super happy! I love how even though you are extremely busy, you still manage to upload consistently and reply to everyone’s comments! You are so inspiring, girlie
Thank you! I feel so close!
I have an interview coming up in October for CRNA school starting in August 2020. Nervous and excited. You’re videos are encouraging because you juggle so much. I have a wife and new baby girl so seeing you can do CRNA school with all your activities is very encouraging. Also you and Jon are a rad couple! Love that y’all are fostering! Math isn't my strong point. The way you explained this and my basic knowledge of syringes, I think once Im eating, & breathing school, Ill be fine. Lol!
In 5 days I begin working on the 1st step, academics. Science is my strong point. Biology is like a second nature to me bc I understand it. I love biology.
Hello. I appreciate your videos, I'm learning English and so I can perfectly understand what you say, I dream of becoming a registered nurse and studying CRNA. Your work is great. (I hope this is well written)❤😅

Love the videos! This looks like my dream job please keep these videos coming
Awesome . I will put my best effort . Thanks for information
I’ve been thinking about CRNA school instead of med school. I think I would like it more and I don’t have a problem with math. I def will need to work on test taking strategies and controlling my anxiety lol. But I feel like this would be a more enjoyable path for me and less time and student debt which is important to me as well!
Omg I give u a lot of credit. I’m doing math now before nsg school, done with all prereqs but math is killing me. Nsg school is online but I’m so stressed from math it’s like a foreign language to me
One thing I loved about the Army is the pace, you mentioned CRNA school is nonstop for 3 years, and the Army the have the nursing program which is a BSN condensed in 2 years so it’s nonstop information overload haha
Glad I won’t have some of the stressors like loans I have my GI Bill which will cover tuition and my housing while I’m in school, as well as Hazelwood Act which is 150 college hours paid for. Plus my VA benefits so I’ll have some income coming in
I bet you are used to that pace! 2 years! Wow, that's intense. Those benefits sound great for you! That will help so much!
I’m a high school senior interested in pursuing a CRNA. Can I ask what you majored in in college and how you went from there?
Nursing and I made a whole video about it!
I have a question about the first math problem: 4225x39-30/39, you did 39-30 first but doesn't that go against order of operations? you would have to multiply and divide first before you subtract anything. please correct me if im wrong; there might be a reason you did it that way that I'm not aware of
I had the same question
Omg!! Stress!!!!!!
I'm interested in work/life balance. What are your typical shifts? I have 4 little kids I'm not sure I could balance my time with
Did you work while in nursing school? If so, can you make a video on how to manage your time while working in nursing school or just time management in general?
Yes I did! I'll work on a time management video 😊
I'm in nursing school for my BSN & our grading scale works similarly. 84% to 92% is a B, 93 to 100 is an A! An 83% is a C and considered failing, pray for me !
Wow!
Hey Rhianna! Just found out I got an interview for a CRNA program. Could you do a video on interview questions and how to best prep for an interview? Love your content!
That's so awesome! Yes, I've been meaning to make that video!
How was the interview?
@@kingstonstreet3726 September!
this is so encouraging 💖💖 thankyou so muchh.
Amazing video again! This is my favorite cRNA/Srna RUclips channel! One quick question is how do you know you’re ready to take an exam or even to stop studying a particular topic and move on to another. I’m worried I won’t know where or when to stop and will study one topic too much while possibly neglecting another and do well on one exam and fail another.
Thank you Marina! Great question. It's hard to explain but I basically move on once I feel like I understand the concepts and if I am having a lot of trouble I move on anyway and come back to it at the end to avoid running out of time for everything else.
The math seemed pretty simple but is PEMDAS not a thing in CRNA school? Why did you subtract first in the first question?
I was wondering the same thing!!! Like wait, what?
Hi Rhianna great video! In the hospital setting during a shift, how much time do you have to do these calculations? And are you required to do them in your head?
We have to be able to med math instantly because things move very fast in anesthesia.
there how difficult this job is so simple turkey. After graduating from high school, you can study in an anesthesia program for 2 years and start working. I started working at the age of 19. but it was more practical than theoretical lessons. We worked in the operating room for 8 hours every day during the internship.
I think our education system is so weak than yours. Yours system better than us and CONGRATULATIONS 💕
Wow it's interesting that it's so different! Thanks for explaining!
Same grading scale as my accelerated BSN. It seems there are a lot of similarities in terms of time management, stress, discipline, motivation, etc. Obviously not as rigorous academically, but I'd like to think that doing a BSN in 12 months gave me a glimpse of what the demands of CRNA school might be like.
I agree it's a good glimpse! CRNA is harder academically and requires way more clinical time.
Hi Rhianna, I'm getting nervous starting CRNA school this June.
My biggest concern is test taking (anxiety) and time management.
Any tips on how to not over study and not retain info? Basically how to dissect the work and be efficient and successful. 🙃
Also congratulations on getting to 3rd year!!!! ❤
I get test anxiety too but I've found meditating or doing yoga the morning of an exam helps me calm my mind. As for retaining info my best tip is stay ahead with studying. Waiting until the last minute and cramming doesn't work well for the heavy workload. You'll do great!!! I'm so excited for you!!
Thank you Rhianna for your response and tips!!! Love your content and I am so proud of you in the way you are able juggle EVERYTHING and remain focused and Successful! And for the sake of the math, you do still follow PEMDAS, regardless of the problem? Thank you!!
@@hanans6710 You're welcome! Yes PEMDAS is how you should do things. I am so used to doing then I skip around and probably should have done it properly in my video to avoid confusion 😣
Thank you Rhianna!
You will be fine
Hi I’m a senior in hs and pursuing the career of a CRNA and just have a few questions. What college did you go to for nursing? How long were you a nurse before you became an SRNA? What program are you/were you attending?
I went to JMU for my BSN and 2 years. I go to Marshall.
In Tianna Voice....Yeah' (when she's excited) that Math is hard
I'm in an ADN and concurrent BSN fast track program, just starting 2nd semester of 6. I am considering CRNA, but it will require a DNP by the time I get to that point (regulations changing in 2025 I believe). A couple questions: 1. Would you still go for CRNA if it wasn't a MSN anymore but a DNP? and 2. What MSN would you recommend as the step between BSN (I'm planning on ICU and travel ICU experience) and the DNP? I feel PMHNP is more attractive to me than FNP, but it doesn't seem as aligned with the goal of CRNA.
I'm always willing to learn anything.so even if seems or it is difficult I believe I can do it as long as I am discipline like you say.
You can totally do it! Amazing attitude!
Could the classes be taken online or traditional? What classes can’t be taking online?
Thanks for the tips! What are some of your favorite educational youtube videos? I like khan academy and the Armando videos but want to find more on pharmacology. Thanks :)

Hi, you mentioned not working. How did you guys make ends meet? What did you to prepare for when you had to stop working full time, I’m also gonna assume that hubby took over for those 3 years. This is a big concern to me but I’m not anywhere near close to CRNA school yet.
i can’t wait for the challenge
yes!
Congrats on getting to the third year. Just keep on keeping on. Just hit my 14 th year as an RN... one license a thousand opportunities.

Thank you!! 24 hour shifts are killer! More crossfit vids will be coming 😍
Hi! Did you go to CRNA school full time? Did you have time to work or have a full time job? How many hours a day you used to go to school? Thank you for your videos
would you say a lot of the math is mostly muscle memory when it comes to remembering the equations??
Yes, it's nothing like calculus!
What do you mean "nothing like CALCULUS"? omgghh I hate it, I hate Calculus it's pretty hard HAHAHAHA.
The math wasnt bad, but the second question I had to watch it twice🤣🤣
where did you go to nursing school? where did you go to CRNA school? I'm a pre-nursing student in VA and I'd really like to know what you think the best programs are ...
I went to PVCC for my ADN, JMU for my BSN and now I'm at Marshall
anything over an 87 is passing? Good lord, I wouldn't make it lol
Haha you'd be surprised what you can do when you're scared of failing 😂
Rhianna Ferial ^^ ain't that the truth 👌👌👌
In nursing school pharmacology is either a 90-100 average
Rihanna. 1st congratulations on crna school. I am a respiratory therapist (16 years). I am 42 yrs old. I now want to transition to nursing to be a crna. I am so nervous because of my age
Kizzy Hammond I’m not sure how many prerequisites you have done for nursing school but with your healthcare background you should have no problem managing an accelerated nursing program and be done with that in a year. You also may be able to get an ICU job as a new grad with your work background. You need 2 years minimum for CRNA which is a 3 year program. So you could be a working CRNA before you’re 50! Plus the time is going to pass anyways, might as well spend it working towards your goals :)
Kayla Cat thank you so much. I will surely keep following. I need all the encouragement I can get
Kizzy Hammond you’re welcome! Best of luck to you! 😊
Hearing this stuff makes me super worried to become a CRNA even though I do well in school
Green means go ! Congrats friend (: !
Yess!! Thank you 😘
Hello, I just started a month ago. I did ok on my first phys exam and passing everything. But I am having trouble studying. I don't know where to start sometimes. Sometimes I study for days and feel like I learned nothing. Did you use Apex in your first semester? I do not have materials for practice tests for phys and I feel like that would help a lot. IT is difficult to learn how to do school again.
Hey! I've been using apex to study since the beginning and it is so helpful! It condenses all the info and makes it easier to focus in on the important things from the reading. I highly suggest it.
What is apex? I’m in high school and this is what is bothering me about nursing and crna school bc it takes me a lot of time to memorize and get stuff done
Would this be doable with a baby/toddler? Would you have any time to spend with your kiddo? That's what I'm most worried about
I’m new here ✌️ have you made a video about what is within a CRNA scope of practice? Like what would a crna do in the real world?
No but I talk about it a lot in my vlogs. I could make a video about it though!
goodluck on that journey i know it ain't easy a lot of sacrifice but doable.
Thank you!
Hey gurrl I'm a foreign student. I'm at my 2nd year of BSN.. I passed my first year with 3.9 gpa. And will try to make it persistent bw 3.9-4.0. My qsn to u is I got 75% in high school education. Would it hinder my way to crna school??
Hi! I'm not sure how yours is scored but typically high school shouldn't really impact grad school.
Great video
Do you know anyone in your program that is doing the military hpsp scholarship program? If so, can you have them come on here and do a Q and A?! I would greatly appreciate that!! Love watching your channel! You and John are so cute!
Nobody in my class is doing it but I do know of some SRNAs that are in other places! I'll see what I can do 😊
I don’t think Army does HPSP for CRNA, but they’ll direct commission into USAGPAN and UHU programs. I know they also offer loan repayment too.
Discipline equals freedom!

Confused with that 2nd math problem. wouldn't adding 18 ml of NS with the 2ml of precedex make it 9mcg/ml.... uuugh I'm confused. When you said ppl mix it different depending on preference, do you mean they add 20mls as opposed to 18 mls??
Nice damily❤❤
