    About me:
    I am a wife, mom and CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist). I went to nursing school to get my ADN, started working and then went back for my BSN. I was a travel nurse for 2 years before starting CRNA school. I loved travel nursing so much but I also love anesthesia so I went back to school to become a CRNA. Fitness is a huge part of my life. I've competed in powerlifting and Crossfit. We are vegan because we are both huge animal lovers. We are also foster parents (awaiting the adoption of our daughter)!

    I am a retired CRNA. Provided anesthesia for over 36 years. The USAF paid for my education, however I was an OR nurse first.It was challenging and exhausting as a CRNA, but I found it to rewarding and most of the time it was great. Got along well with most the anesthesia docs. It was interesting that at 3:30 PM we became more knowledgeable and could go it on our own! Many lasting friendships with the docs, other nurses, patients and surgeons was good. I am glad I was blessed with great career.

    Just to clarify, At your job or other jobs you know of, are you able to pick and choose which shifts you want, such as varying lengths: 8 hours, 10 hours, 12 hours, 16 hours, 24 hour shifts? Is this only realistic as a 1099 employee, or as a W-2 employee as well?
    I am currently in CRNA school and im looking forward to my first Job. I'm worried that I won't have much say in how my schedule is, but any clarification about how a CRNA schedule normally is, that would be great. I hope to work 2-3 days a week if possible. Thank you for any help!

    RN schedule is just so not family/woman/mother/father friendly. Kids go to school between 7:30 and 8am. Most shifts start at 6:30am or 7am and then if you work nights you won’t get home until 8am due to giving report and driving. Idk how nurses are supposed to have kids.

      The trade off is an extra "day off" with the family, but it is still challenging to miss school mornings, soccer practice, and family dinner for half of the week. It also becomes challenging to schedule family events, dates, or get togethers with friends because the amount of "evening time" available is so limited and already maxed out with making up for lost family time on the shift days.

    • @helloyou9
      @helloyou9 3 года назад +2

      A lot of Nurses I know work weekends overnight so they can be with their kids during the week. Or they work over nights during the week sleep while their children are at school and wake up to go pick them up spend a couple of hours w them and then go to work. It’s manageable if you work as needed to work with your kids.

    • @helloyou9
      @helloyou9 3 года назад

      And keep in mind full time for nurses is 36 hours. So you’re still working less.

    what kind of breaks do you get during a 24 hour shift?

    • @TheSchoellerFamily
      @TheSchoellerFamily  3 года назад +22

      It depends on where you work and what that day is like. Typically during the day you get breakfast, lunch and dinner breaks. Breakfast is 15 mins, the other 2 are 30. When all the cases finish up for the day you're free. So if you're done at 9pm you can go to the call room and sleep until you get a call for a case or intubation.

    Do you find that you're not short staffed as a CNRA when compared to a regular staff nurse? It seems like your hospital has the manpower, which allows those flexible schedules. As a staff nurse, my unit always call me on my days off and ask if I can work. It gets old.

    • @TheSchoellerFamily
