The name of the show is Bad Lads Army and it is a reality show. They are testing if modern kids could handle 1950s style National Service Basic Training. The first season, Lad's Army was focused on volenteers but in later seasons it was criminals - adding the "Bad Lads" into the mix. Series 1 (Lads Army) and Series 2 (Bad Lads Army) are the best ones. Officer Class lost its focus and Bad Lads Army Extreme sadly played up the dramatics. Do give the series a watch if you can find it; it is well worth your time - especially Series 1 & 2.
Judging by the amount of laughter and indiscipline in the background im going to say that no, no they cant handle it even in modern basic training that would be squashed and everyone would be in fear let alone 1950s where men where actually men
It's honestly one of the best series I've ever watched. As an NCO with the Air Cadets, it's funny to see the crossovers and lack of discipline. Wish we could scream at cadets like that!
0:48 How did the speccy bloke get away with chewing gum on parade, surely Corporal Murray noticed that?He bollocked him for calling him Sir but let him get away with chewing like a cow chewing the cud.

i do like the differences between Sgt. Rae's "Sarge" rant. If i remember correctly the second one in this video was a few weeks in to the training and he's still serious but slightly more light hearted because i think he'd developed some respect for the lads at that point. Really shows good leadership. When to get your point across with aggression and absolutism and when not to
This is the transformation of civilians into a discipline soldier..... For you to survive the training you must have determination, strong will power, self discipline before being instilled the service discipline it takes heart
On basic training, I remember going across the parade ground and saluting "Good morning, Sir". A booming voice (RSM) came across the parade ground: "Gunner, that is a Maam, not a Sir".
Would never happen again because of things for example like mental health laws, disability act, and religions would make it impossible. All of those are in british law its serious breaking any of them. But i would love to see it for prisoners etc. In us i read you lose all your rights once you enter a jail or the pen

Quality TV viewing and the best series of the lot, its time this show was brought back. Ellis (Damien to give his first name), told me that night was the last he saw Butler.

Ewalds Eiland It was a rehabilitation course for petty criminals and did a good job in a lot of cases - Some actually went on to sign up on the final day of the course or shortly afterwards and from what I've heard it had a positive effect on most.
Well then that is good, but the impression I get from watching this bit here on RUclips is that the British Army is about yelling, wisecracking and childish jokes, instead of about doing tough manly things with that classy gentlemanly understatement, style and stiff upper lip that I as a Kraut have always admired the Brits for.
A lot like our boot camp. Ya hear the drill instructors shout out some of the strangest things at times. And if ya laugh... Incentive Training. IT sucks!!!
Considering A: This is a TV show so they're not allowed to go full bore B: this is based on a very old training regime hence the old uniform and rifles C: They're only "training" to be standard infantry so ofcourse it will be harder. Like NatahnObi said the Royal Marines and SAS/SBS training regimes are much worse than the US versions.

Last one should be from Series 2; Bad Lads Army.
Jonathan Lundkvist thanks man :)
When Webb said "That's my surname, Sir", he probably never heard the end of it.
