I can remember what an utter shower we were on our first parade as recruits. Some of us had been cadets and managed some semblance of order, but not enough to save us from a "beasting". I think we only lost about three from our platoon of about 50. One who could swing his arms in time with his feet another who just had a breakdown and the other was just plain unwilling to do anything right.
We got called all sorts of names, I decided to take NOTHING personally and inwardly laughed at some of the "insults" launched at us randomly. One personal remark to me was about my legs when standing to attention. "Get your knees together" the Sgt screamed, "I can't Sergeant" I replied. So, he tied my legs together with a length of string. By this time, I was laughing, the Squad was laughing and so was "Sgt L" - "You should have joined the cavalry" was his final words. Out of training and doing "warm up drill" one morning (those that know about this will know!) I bunch of Army cadets watching us started to laugh. Sgt L ignored them for a short while and then marched up at speed right through them at the edge of the square and them gave them a full on bollicking like you've never heard. To prove his power one day Sgt L told us that when he "shouted shit, we would jump of the shovel" and one morning he brought us to attention, "Squaad... SHIT"!!! - we all came to attention. Point made. 🤣🤣

I thought the RSMs were technically Warrant Officers and treated the same as a Commissioned Officer. At least that's what I've been told how the Commonwealth forces do it.
I'm mostly familiar with how the U.S. Military does things. The closest thing U.S. forces have to the RSM is the Command Sergeant Major in the case of the Army and Marine Corps, the Command Master Chief Petty Officer with surface ships and shore commands/Chief of the Boat in the case of a Submarine, the Command Chief Master Sergeant in the case of Air Force commands. In all cases, these guys are E9s the highest paygrade one can go on the Enlisted side.
They answer only to the Commanding General or Ship or Submarine Captain. Respected and feared by all, including the Commanding General and their XOs or the Captain of a ship or submarine. These guys often have been in their respective branches longer than most the junior enlisted and junior as well as mid-grade officers have been alive.
They know all, see all, hear all.

I probably sound like a sadist, but this scene cracks me up. Always so entertaining to see Brown getting put in place. He just gets out of jail. Doesn't know his number, and in typical fashion he treats it like a game - he begins to smirk and that smirk is wiped right off his face when he learns he's going back to jail. Then there's the ever-so-sweet insult to injury, with Edwards calling him a piece of shit. BAAAHahahaha!

I remember my DS’s told us that if we called the CSM “sir” during our final inspection, there wouldn’t be a deity, higher power, or sentient being in all the realms of this plane of existence that could protect us from the wrath of Hell that would follow in our CQ office....as a man, I had never been so scared for my well being in my life.

You don't get much of a background story of the black geezer pvt. Sekerama and why he's considered a bad lad, etc.
He had his Birthday during training, so they had a bit of shindig in the Naafi for it and he was a good boxer, but that's pretty much it.

And they have to be loud because if a Sergeant is giving the word of command to about 30-35 soldiers, the ones at the far ends must be able to hear otherwise they cannot follow to the drill.

Am I the only one to notice the CSM is wearing his campaign stars in the wrong order? It should be 1939-1945 star, then the Africa Star, then the Italy Star. Also, if he earned those three stars, shouldn't he also have been awarded the Defence Medal and the War Medal?

    • @patrickoreilly5150

Seriously ...off cause he did not earn them. He was born until the 60's...1963. It's part of the show, he is supposed to be a CSM in the 50's
