Great song, 70s Yes was fantastic, prog at its best, for another amazing tune from that era, do And You and I, one of the most beautiful epics they ever came up with. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
"Is that it?" Right? Yes songs are an experience that leave you wanting more. Those 3 words said it all! Thank you for reacting to this amazing aural epic!
Yes has many 9 minute musical adventures that sound like 4 or 5 songs in one. The lyrics will be a little ethereal and hard to follow, but they always sound good. This is Progressive Rock. It sounds like a rock symphony in several movements, with lots of tempo and time signature changes, and incredibly smooth transitions. You'll love all of these songs: And You And I, I've Seen All Good People, Heart of the Sunrise, Long Distance Runaround, Yours Is No Disgrace, Siberian Khatru, and Perpetual Change. All of these are amazingly well crafted and produced by 5 virtuoso musicians, and will send you to another place just like Starship Trooper did.
I wish you would have reacted to their live version of this song off of the Yessongs album. The solos at the end from Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe are incredible!
The awesome and late Chris Squire on bass.Steve Howe on lead and acoustic guitars. After this the infamous Rick Wakeman would join the band and play all keyboards
COOL KEEP IT GOING! YES is a rabbit hole of deep enriching sophisticated complex BLISSful music at it's most spiritually uplifting & beautiful ! Each members are revered for being the best of the greatest on their instruments as a unit and apart
You like the drumming right from the start. That's Bill Bruford, one of the greatest. He was also in King Crimson and on Three Of A Perfect Pair he's listed as 'Bill Bruford- Drumming' Three Of A Perfect Pair is a great song for his drumming. ✌️😎
For Brad Mehldau this tune is part of life's soundtrack as well. Only it represents the afterlife. The album (Jacob's Ladder) is very good. Jazz guys playing Prog. He also channels Rush ang Gentle Giant. ruclips.net/video/aW52f-k4Hb4/видео.html
Hello Angela!!! Welcome to the YES Community!!! Wasn't that FANTASTIC to listen and experience! Well, if you haven't heard or acted to this song by Yes, than ignore my request for it. But I feel the next reaction to Yes should be "Roundabout. " from their "Fragile, " album, released in 1971. It is AMAZING and one of their first Masterpieces of "Art Rock." Enjoy!!! BTW Great Reaction!!!
I've been listening to Yes since 1972 and it is only recently I've taken the trouble to read Jon Anderson's quite sophisticated imagist poems. I've been so caught up in the music that I've always considered Jon to be the main lead instrument in Yes and the quality and purity of his singing has been enough in itself. Find the lyrics and you'll find some of the most inspirational songs about love and peace, which is where Jon has always been, despite the Buggles buggering up his band. What is Starship Trooper about? Maybe humanity's incessant search for a truth that can be gleaned from nature but because we are such a left brained species we think we need words to describe it and therefore can never really appreciate the wordless wisdom of nature. You have now begun a wondrous story that will bring you close to the edge of the gates of delirium where you will enjoy perpetual change until you become the owner of a lonely heart because you couldn't stay away from the drama that didn't belong in Yes.
Great reaction to real music played by musicians together in a studio with no computers or sampling. Rick Wakeman still performs this and last week he did a 15 minute version as an encore.
Such an example of "Art Rock"..A vibe of classical and hard rock mix. I loved Ye's drummer, dude was always playing with just as much beat as melody, and always great "cues" to any time changes. Seems like most of thier songs always take you on an adventure, so you're right--they dont feel as long as they are.
When hearing that tumbling acoustic guitar in the second movement, it's interesting to note that Steve Howe auditioned to be in Jethro Tull. When Ian told him, "I write all the songs," Steve said, "Wrong band for me." Then he joined Yes - definitely the RIGHT band for him!
This band blows my mind how good the musicianship is, all of them are top of their game, and they were very influential through the 70-80s, once you go down the Yes rabbit hole, there's no going back, hard to believe this song is 53 years old.
Fifty years after first hearing this song, I loved seeing the smile on another young person's face -- just as I smiled --when the band segued into the final passage, "Wurm."
Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Squire and YES, the greatest show on earth. Wonderful reaction! A song called Turn Of The Century is a beautiful love song that is befitting of you. 🙏🎶👑
Part II 😁 NICE! Enjoyed your outro as well! Wine and the entire album!! The whole album is that good including the short guitar instrumental. Great Channel Day!! 🕊️☮️
You've chosen the best album to start reacting to Yes with! Any other tracks from this album, then "Fragile", "Close To The Edge", "Relayer" and beyond!
Beautiful break down of the layers of sound Yes produced in its early days...Jon`s lyrics come from his love of the outer space we`ve never traveled, which reverberate around my soul as I too would`ve loved to have been a space Starship Trooper ...We would jam Yes when we went camping every weekend in the 70`s....just kickin back to enjoy the marvel which is our universe.....ROCK on Uno Dia
I completely get the point you’re trying to make. But anyone who grew up during The Classic Era knew the only reaction to Chris’s abilities as an artist was to simply be in awe. He remains one of the greatest progressive bassists of all time. Hopefully later generations will find that truth for themselves. 👈 Regards
Don't worry about the lyrics. Jon rarely has a story associated. He mostly uses words that sound good. ALL their songs are spiritual or uplifting in nature. Keep diving in to their portfolio.
I think you might like the layers and harmonies in Love Will Find A Way by Yes. Trevor Rabin (guitarist) originally wrote it for Stevie Nicks but Alan White(drummer) said no we have to do it.
YES is the greatest progressive rock band in my opinion. I just subscribed. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them as will many other YES fans so keep them coming. Loads of greats including "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "Close to the Edge", "And You and I", "Turn of the Century", "Perpetual Change", "The Revealing Science of God", lots more.
Ahh you finally listened to yes. I have been waiting for you to react to this incredible group. You are one of my original and favorite reactors to music. Wait til you listen to 'round about ' 'and you and i' and the greatest prog rock song 'close to the edge' a masterpiece. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Make sure you listen to the instrumentation and forget the lyrics. John Anderson actually put words into the songs for how they fit but his words are metaphoric. Just immerse yourself in the music and turn it up. Thank you. Look forward to your next yes reaction.
I'm just here to tell you that you're _really_ going to enjoy this song 100X better if you listen to it on a good set of earphones instead of those earbuds. YES' music is so full of depth & complexity underneath the melodies & their great vocal harmonies, you can only truly appreciate it when listening to it on the highest quality of sound reproduction available. Just saying...
In college back in the late '70s we would gather in the dorm room of the guy who owned the best stereo system and speakers to listen to Yes albums. And we were always meticulous about using a disk brush to clean the vinyl before dropping the needle into the groove. We didn't want any dust-induced crackle to interfere with our listening experience, LOL!
That is what ProgRock was all about, long songs, changing speeds, melodies, parts of songs, long solo work by guitar and keyboard. So you actually cannot compare to "normal" songs.
My 2 favorite Yes songs are Roundabout and Owner Of A Lonely Heart! I have a challenge for you Angela and your audience, including me! There is this mysterious song that everyone is perplexed by on the internet! Its speculated title is Everyone Knows That (You Have Ulterior Motives)! People are guessing it may be from the mid 80's, but no one has found the actual origin and source of this 17 second segment of this tune! That's it, until Wednesday, have a good one!
Yes is one of the best bands in the progressive rock genre. Other progressive bands you may like include Genesis, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Porcupine Tree and Peter Gabriel. The 1970s was the best decade for new music. I recommend Peter Gabriel's live performance of "In Your Eyes" for a life-changing experience. Cheers!
Still my favorite Yes album… it’s a shame that people miss out on the full album experience these days. Everything is playlists and genres and music with no context. That may work with the current mess of manipulated excuse for music but music back then was more aligned to the artists and how they crafted their songs into an album… What a loss…
Angela, the drummer is Bull Bruford, phenomenal drummer. Jon Anderson the vocalist wrote most of their lyrics. He said it was more about how they sounded then their meaning.
The BEST band for Prog Rock if 60's and 70's..Bill Burford on drums with the dulcet tones of Jon Anderson on vocals and the magician that is Rick Wakeman on keyboards..Jon joined up with the Greek Composer to form Jon and Vangelis in the 80's..Vangelis wrote the soundtrack to Chariots of Fire..
Easily one of my top 20 favorite albums. This whole album is freaking AMAZING. Thanks HAWAII MONGOOSE!! What island? Aloha from Oregon!! Grew up in Makakilo Oahu. 🤙🏽 Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Aloha Allen! I'm in Honolulu. Glad you enjoyed the reaction. I've been looking forward to introducing Angela to Yes ever since joining her Patreon channel. Initially I thought of requesting Roundabout, but it seems like almost all the music reactors start their Yes journeys with that song, and since Starship Trooper is my personal favorite I went with that. Ironically Angela in fact reacted to Roundabout three months ago, apparently because it was requested before I asked her to listen to Starship Trooper, but I didn't know it was coming because the Roundabout reaction was posted after I made my request. Oh well, now we know she's ready to move on to all the other good Yes stuff!
@@MongooseTales NICE!! I'm Amazed she likes it since you can't dance to it!! I'm not sure what's my favorite! Maybe HEART OF THE SUNRISE??!! ALOHA and you folks are doing good! 🕊️☮️

I am so glad to see younger people expressing their feelings about their first impressions with progressive (Prog) rock. We would spend time listening to the entire album. The only drawback was flipping the album for side two.
I have always been reluctant to suggest any progressive or hard rock tracks, but I'm rethinking that now. A new world has just opened. Thanks for doing this track. The drummer, Bill Buford, has jazz in his background and it shows here. This was Steve Howe's first LP with Yes; he was the guitarist. It was the keyboardist's (Tony Kaye) last LP before Rick Wakeman took over (he was the keyboardist on "Roundabout," which you reacted to previously). Finally, feeling a bit emboldened, I'd like to suggest "Space Truckin'" by Deep Purple. And "I've Seen All Good People," also by Yes, would be a nice follow-up to this track.
For me the definitive version of this is from Wembley 1978. It's on you tube, if you do listen this again listen that version, it's way better from all angles.
Talk about two songs on the opposite side of the equation. Both are great and enjoyable in their own unique way. They are separated by six years and many genres, yet I believe that members of Yes enjoyed The Seekers and vise versa. How could they not. Great music is great music, wherever it originates.
Many times Jon Anderson’s lyrics are there more for the sound and not the meaning. People that listen to early “Yes” music like this while high on Pot said they had a complete understanding. I first listened to “Yes” when I was 12 in 73, but my friends older brother said we were too young to get help with the lyrics. “Hint Hint Nudge Nudge, If you know what I mean” Monty Python
Loneliness is a power that we Possess to give or take away forever All I know can be shown by your Acceptance of the facts there shown before you Take what I say in a different way And it's easy to say that this is all confusion As I see a new day in me I can also show it you and you may follow
Angela, I’m writing here as it’s a new video and I hope you see this. I’ve written before but things changed. I’m requesting you react to a cover of “We’ve Only Just Begun.” I think the lead vocalist will qualify for inclusion in the “Her Voice!” category. I am not joking. I have proof. This cover, really a recreation in the spirit of love. Was released on 3/2/24 to honor Karen on her birthday in heaven. Jim Wilkas with a group of musicians created this masterpiece. The video is dynamic and unlike anything I’ve seen before. I’ve seen similar but this is next level as I hope you’ll see. Now let’s talk lead vocalist, “Her Voice” The singer is Tori Holub. She’s a 20 year old lover of music from my youth, the 60-80’s. She’s a super-fan of Carpenters, both of them. She sings and is an audio engineer. Though on this video Jim is the wizard of magic. She self produces her own videos for her channels. This is a collaboration. IMHO it is the best cover of a Carpenters song ever. I’m looking right at Leonid. Now I said earlier I have proof. Well, I hope you are familiar with the Wings of Pegasus channel. Last Sunday Fil analyzed this very song and Tori. I’m not spoiling his video or this one but the title card on this episode should clue you in without spoiling it all. I want you to react to this cold. Are you ready to add to the Her Voice section. I hope you are. I’m going to make you cry, here. Or at least well up. ❤ Here’s the link… Joe ruclips.net/video/J95lfJqo9VY/видео.htmlsi=NVIBmhilbnDUaeWk
Great reaction. I was just noticing it's been two years since you reacted to Lara Fabian's Je Suis Malade. Don't know if you realize it or not but that reaction has over forty two thousand views. Time for some more Lara. May I suggest Adagio or Curuso or Love byGrace all from her famous concert "Fron Lara With Love" live from the Molson Center in Montreal. By the way Lara's live versions are always better than the studio versions.
Just my personal opinion, but I think with Yes songs it's best to start with studio versions, just because the audio is typically cleaner and crisper which makes it easier to hear and appreciate all the layers in the music. The live versions are great to follow up with, to appreciate the full virtuosity of the band members. They are truly masters of their instruments.
The"live" version off of the "YESSONGS" album is the better version of "Starship Trooper." It has great guitar and synthesizer solos in the "Wurm" section.
If this is your first time listening to Yes then you're listening to the greatest band that has graced this planet.
The mighty Bill Buford on drums and percussion 🔥🔥🔥💯
The GOAT
Anything off of this album, "The YES Album", or "FRAGILE", "CLOSE TO THE EDGE" or even "YESSONGS" all have great songs from start to finish

Jon Anderson wrote songs that changed the world, even while he was living on another planet
Interesting
Loneliness is a power that we
Possess to give or take away forever
All I know can be shown by your
Acceptance of the facts there shown before you
Take what I say in a different way
And it's easy to say that this is all confusion
As I see a new day in me
I can also show it you and you may follow
Definitely my favorite passage in the lyrics.
❤ Here’s the link…

I wish you had done a live version. It only gets better
@@MongooseTales You make a good point; especially with Roundabout
Day one ✌, you're a great person
The"live" version off of the "YESSONGS" album is the better version of "Starship Trooper." It has great guitar and synthesizer solos in the "Wurm" section.
