I've always like this. A 'human condition' song. The inner world of some girl you pass on the street or see working in the office. She's stuck in a rut and not sure how to get out. The guy comes to 'break the spell' like she's just going through life in a trance.
For legal reasons the song is credited to Paul and Linda McCartney. This was because Paul was in a business union with John Lennon (where they'd agreed to release all their work as Lennon-McCartney - and which is why "Give Peace a Chance" was originally credited as Lennon-McCartney even though McCarney had noithing to do with it). So to get around this he created a new partnership with his wife so the lawyers couldn't get their money out of his new songs. People claimed it was a fake union and that Linda didn't contribute anything so she would later release songs solely in her own name (such as "Oriental Nightfish" and "Seaside Woman") to show she was a genuine song-writer Though not a Wings song it appears on "Wings Greatest" released in 1978 (though it features the McCartneys and Denny Seiwell - so that's 3/4ths of what would be Wings)
So happy you did this song! I love McCartney at this stage of his career. You're so right about his creativity and this song is a perfect example of his genius as a solo artist.
An understated classic that evolves from a simple tale to a sunny routine on the surface but a definite sadness as times moves on. Paul McCartney has one of the most extensive catalogs of any artist in the history of the musical arts, his talent and influence are beyond measure. For another of his endless classics, from his days in Wings, do Let Me Roll It, another great deep cut and a banger. You will always see me here if you do more Paul or the Beatles, Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
In a way this song is really important. He speaks of sadness which is belied by this mostly upbeat, catchy, bouncy music. This is why as people we need to watch out for one another and recognize the signs of loneliness, sadness, and depression. This is why people commit s&icide. Because no one pays attention and that person just lives through the mundane until they can no longer take it.
@@patticrichton1135 I am sorry you are going through hard times and bad days. I hope that you can get through it and take some solace in little things. That is what I try to do. I often am extremely lonely and sad and feel very isolated and disconnected, lost, and unseen. I just try each day to find something or someone to laugh at, something that makes me smile. Something that DOESN'T make me angry (that is the tough one!). Please take care.
His first single... Lennon attacked it (along with "Yesterday") in "How Do you Sleep?" when he sings The only thing you done was yesterday And since you've gone you're just another day McCartney began this with the Beatles back in 1969
John a thinking Beatle? what a laugh...just what the hell was he thinking when he abandoned his wife Cynthia and his son Julian? Lennon was an insecure mixed up jealous prick, chose the wrong manager for the Beatles, and let his new Japanese artist wife run his life to her advantage.
Paul McCartney continued the Beatles tradition of having singles come out around the same time as albums. This song would have definitely fit in well with the Ram album released the same year featuring 'Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey.' Also a great PM hit.
Wow, you played my favorite Wings song! It's a very melancholic and thought provoking song! We all want to be saved from something that haunts us or envelopes us with agony, fear and confusion! Like a curse perhaps! One day we will all be rescued! Bye friends!
@@JessieA-u4lYeah, this is definitely not Wings, which didn't actually exist yet, but it's not from RAM either, you could be mixing it up with Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, which was the official single from RAM, my favorite McCartney album. Cheers!
McCartney was criticized during this period for "not living up to his potential," but he wrote a lot of thoughtful songs about how people should interact. He considered others' viewpoints, like in this song. A lot of this criticism of Paul was from people mistakenly blaming him for the Beatles breakup. And also because John was considered the "thinking Beatle." He was mad at Paul and so a lot of people fell in line behind him. Paul has written some duds, but he has a genius for melody. And many times his lyrics are also great.
McCartney didn't officially record the song until after the band broke up, previewing "Another Day" during the Beatles' LetSeBe sessions in January 1969.
Cool song! Never heard before. Looked at your channel for P Mc. Playlist, didn't see so looked at 70's and only seen 2 others so there for; BAND ON THE RUN has gotta get Dunn if taint already? General Halsey/ Hands Across The Water another Mc Great!! 60's and 70's my JAMMS! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
The flip side to this single which I still own btw, is a song called Oh woman, Oh why and the first part goes “Oh woman, oh why, why, why, why What have I done Oh woman, oh where, where, where, where, where Did you get that gun”
Some great Paul songs are That Was Me, Too Much Rain, Nothing for Free, Cut Me Some Slack (with members of Nirvana) and FourFiveSeconds with Kanye and Rihanna.
I would love to see someone react to Curly Shuffle by the jump in the saddle band. It's a song about the 3 stooges you will get a good laugh out of it.
Paul is not ordinarily thought of as a writer of sad songs. On the contrary, he's most often criticized for writing bright, bouncy little pop songs. But it was Paul who wrote, among others, "Eleanor Rigby," "For No One", and of course, "Yesterday." This song is another in his catalogue of melancholy melodies. (And let's not forget, "She's Leaving Home.")
PLEASE DO "I WANT MY BABY BACK" BY JIMMY CROSS! I promise you it will be one of your most sensational reactions. Nobody has done this one, but everyone will after you do it.
This was Paul McCartney's first solo single. At the time it wasn't held in high regard. Angela, you didn't say if you would listen to it on your phone.
Thanks to the various foks who replied to my somewhat negative comment on this singer-songwriting genius. Let it be known that I love Paul McCartney, with or withoutJohn. But if you compare this song to the likes of the similarly-themed 'For No One' or 'I've Just Seen A Face', to name two among many magic melodies, I'm sorry but for me the 'fab factor is just not there.Just me? Perhaps. For sure, he had nothing to prove ....

The protagonist of the song is dumb. Yes, she's lonely, but at least she gets to spend time with the "man of her dreams" on a regular basis, which is more than a lot of people ever get to do. And let's not forget that, even if she got to keep her man full-time, her life would inevitably turn into yet another routine, except now it would probably involve fetching his slippers and cleaning his pipe! No? Too old-fashioned? Well, considering how pathetically codependent she seems to be, I wouldn't be at all surprised if she'd do just about anything to make him stay with her, no matter how humiliating... Great song, though.
Paul never did recover his 'fabness factor' with the Beatles' breakup, despite his commercial success with Wings. This had the hallmarks of vintage Macca to begin with but soon degenerated into overproduction, weak lyrics and an unsure sense of direction. Just an opinion. Thanks for sharing anyway, always-thoughtful Angela..
My opinion is that this song is easy to write off as if to say oh just another sad song but the lyrics and music are very cleverly interwoven together..l loved Wings..Band on the Run was one of the greatest albums..not just by an EX Beatle
For those who don't know, 'fabness' was a term used to describe the Beatles in 1964 - '66, when they were known as the Fab Four. They spent the rest of the sixties trying to escape that image.

You are very insightful! That's one of the reasons why I watch your channel! See ya everyone!
I was sixteen when this came out. Wasn't a McCartney fan, but thought this was a terrific piece of songwriting . . .
its a beautiful little compassionate song.
McCartney magic, thank you Angela (you may be the first to react to this song).
I love the way Paul shares stories of everyday life in music, this is one of my favorites.
Thanks for the memories👍💕
Perfect analysis. Thank you
I liked your reaction. Happy melody, sad lyrics. Another example of the genius of Sir Paul.
Another , similar, Observational song by Paul is “For No One” . He recorded it within The Beatles and later by himslf.
Rickie Lee Jones does an amazing cover of For no One
Oddly, Paul did a sort of Prequel to this Song when he was in the Beatles called "She's leaving Home".
Good call and a great song!
Somebody (might have been drummer Denny Seiwell) called Another Day "Eleanor Rigby in New York City"

The B-side "Oh Woman, Oh Why" features a gun wiich McCartney actually fired at the right points in time during the recording.

Paul McCartney & Wings were great...To me he did the best solo out of the 4 Beatles
Simple but so outstanding

to me, it reminds me of being 6 years old and hearing this on the radio before I had to go to school, the darkness
McCartney in this and other songs has the ability to put himself in a woman's mind

One of the best Paul McCartney songs after leaving the Beatles. I guess you could add his song, Too Many People as well.

Didn't pay attention to this song till I heard it on the Simpson's.
You can hear his wife Linda (seen in the pictures) singing harmonies and back up.
Part II 😁 Oops! I knew something was wrong! The song is; Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey!! How imberry skin!! 🕊️☮️
She’s Leaving Home by the Beatles is another sad one by Paul.
Sounds like when he lamenting about leaving Linda at home when he's on the road.
Though mainly Linda didn't stay home; she was part of Wings. She went with him.
One of Paul’s first songs after the breakup of The Beatles.

Former Beatle, in case you don't know.
I believe this is 70s Eleanor Rigby.
I think it was Denny Seiwell who described it as "Eleanor Ritgby in New York City"
