This guy is an excellent drummer and a real good drum teacher he comes across so good and his lessons are fantastic … Mike has a real nice way about teaching for every levels …. he’s great for all drummers from beginners to professionals…. Keep it up Mike your lessons are brilliant
thanks Mike . you break it down nice and slow . many online drum teachers go to fast and show off there chops instead of TEACHING ! i put this lesson in my notes on my phone. once again, thanks Big Mike. 👍🥁❤
Yo I've been drumming for about 20 years and also teach, but this creativty is blowing my mind right now and got me excited to try this with other Rudiments!
Excellent! I have taken this and applied to exercises 1, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 from first page of Stick Control for a 6 bar, long form sticking exercise. Blast!
Nice lesson! I do this all the time and it’s really cool to see someone like Mike Johnston is using it too. And the paradiddle concept is killing it. :)
Thank you, Mike, for stating how long it takes to get a sticking pattern down to the point of owning it. It ain’t easy and it takes time. Just stick with it!
Once again Mike your video brings far more value than the particular technique or skill you are focusing on. I love how you encourage creativity and exploration and how each of your videos is layered such that it builds several aspects of drumming and being a better person in general. 🙂
6 stroke rolls are great for getting around the kit easily. Those of us who were taught with the 26 essential rudiments and played some time in drum corps like Steve Gadd and myself learned this roll usually very early on. Nice instruction!
Anyone else think Mike Johnston and guitarist Nick Johnston should do an album together? Johnston & Johnston! This must happen. Someone needs to make it so. Great advice, teaching and technique, as always!
I was practicing earlier today. I was wondering what is warming up. If I'm going to have a leg day at the gym I squat without weights. I think for the most of the regular drummers these are practicing itself and not warmups. Because we are not playing on the same level as Chris Coleman. We need to do our basics and not just warm up with these rudiments.😊
Breaking it down by those letter codes is something Ive never even considered.
It really simplifies it.

Hi what’s different 6 stroke with 6 tablet

I did ok slow but when I sped it up it turned into a Paradiddle diddle.
Is this athletics? Where does music come into this?
Over my head, but I'm an idiot. It might as well be in another language.
why all instructors have to go as fast as possible after they show you rudiment--just showing off?
None of this matters
I saw a similar lesson years ago from @adam tuminaro
