*YOOOOO, friends! I know y'all been waiting for this. Have fun with this one, man. There are a lot of cool applications for the 6 stroke. Hopefully this video will inspire you to get creative with it. If you dug the lesson...you can support my channel by simply sharing it. Seriously! 😉*
Hey Rob love your videos! Is there a way you could build on this video by doing one that shows how to connect ideas during soloing? Or rather how to fill in the space between musical ideas? Thanks in advance!
They actually sound better with control. My cymbals never even moved when I would crash em and they sounded so much better. Same with the drums. They sound better with control
Great teaching Rob I’ve been playing for more then 30 years but still improving my play thank to your simple and clear teaching And having a lot of fun increasing my skills ! Cheers man ! Greetings from Brussels 😀
I could never play the six stroke roll before - didn't know how to ! After practicing with Rob for a couple of months I am now playing it really well and my speed is improving on a weekly basis ! Thank you for some fantastic lessons Rob !
I'm surprised at the gains I've made in a few days by methodically taking this combo slow and steady. My playing already feels lighter, more relaxed and more confident, and I'm already experiencing much more confidant leads with my weaker hand. Thanks Rob :)
OMG, mind blown, so this is how all drummers do their fills and solos. Got a new direction to practice. Btw, the previous lesson is fire, loving the rudiment.
Thanks so much for your videos. I've been a professional recording engineer all my life, and an amateur drummer, and I've finally decided to get serious about my playing. Your clear and patient lessons are a tremendous help, and your skill is inspiring.
Thanks so much, man! I've only been playing drums for a couple of months so I'm doing this exercise at 60 bpm. Moving around the kit like that is MEGA satisfying!
Rob is like some crazy expert that has graced you with his presence in your basement. And he talks to you so cool that you get additional tidbits with the lesson. Just found him a couple of months ago and I will continue to check him out!
Your lessons are awesome. I've always been a hard hitting rock drummer but have been trying to and some finesse and dynamics to my playing. Your lessons have shown me how much I lack technique. Thanks for sharing add helping me after 30 years of practicing wrong.
Great video! Love these lessons. BTW, a cool extension of the 6 stroke roll idea (can't remember where I first saw it) is to take sticking patterns from, say, George Stone's Stick Control book and play R as Rll and L as llR. So written pattern RLRL becomes the standard 6 stroke roll -- RllrrL RllrrL. But then you get some cool variations; e.g. paradiddle RLRR LRLL becomes RllrrL RllRll rrLRll rrLrrL. Great hand and brain workout just on snare, and opens up lots of cool possibilities when spread around the kit!
I was looking forward to part 2 of this. I think you've really hit on a juicy topic that straddles the line between learning a rudiment (important but maybe not so fun) and learning a cool drum lick (not as important but super fun.) Awesome!
Brother been waiting for this exercise! Worked really hard on the six stroke on the pad. I had to play it slower on the kit, because the sounds were throwing me off a bit. Rob you are the man my brother! Gonna work these exercises the way you laid them out. Thank you for your commitment to making us all better players. Have a wonderful day brother!🤜
Man this is so good. After doing some of your other hand exercises with singles/doubles/diddles I'm already up to 95 bpm...looks like you're playing at 100. Maybe another week and I'll try to move this off the pad to the kit!
Love your lesson.. i’m a guitar player with drumming hobbies, and thanks to your awesome lessons.. help me to practice more better.. really appreciate all the hard works you put on all of your videos.. God Bless you man !!
Yeah Rob it works and it most definately gets you going ,and thinking ,i use it with swing, and it works in 32nd time, 170 to 240bpm!, man you the most!!
Great lesson! Would love to see some Reggae series, i feel like there are not enough broken down serious lessons on the subject! Keep up the amazing work, this is my favorite drum channel hands down!
I’m an avid consumer of Rob’s videos; and really enjoy this practical context for the 6SR, but, for where I am in my drummer’s education, I would have enjoyed Rob playing through the kit at “student” half speed before running at “Rob” half speed. RUclips allows for slowing the video, but it’s not quite the same. I’ll practice, and get it either way, but it would definitely would have helped.
Yeah, sounds like music and makes total sense. More of this! :D [edit] Me and my big mouth. Be careful of what you wish for, you might get it! I just found this channel and checked out the other videos ... which were a quarter of a thousand videos hahaha! That should be "more of this" enough for me, right?
Hey Rob. Love watching your RUclips videos man. They have given me loads of inspriration. One thing I was wondering was what kind of lapel mic do you use on your videos though? Keep up the good work buddy:-)
Very nice lesson!!... Hey I wonder how fast is your max to play this roll... 120bpm? 130? 115?... I'm so curious cause in my case once i get to 115 it starts to feel bad and cracking 120 my hand is so tense that i can barely move to another drum... so, how fast? thx so much!
Hey Rob, great lesson man, been waiting for a long time for you to shoot tutorial about 6 stroke and thank you for it. One question, what are those things on top of your cymbals, are those from tama or?
Lovin' the chops man! I find Fills ending at the beginning of the next bar annoys me, when it becomes predictable it can get dull. Through your playing I kept hearing RRLRLL down those beautiful toms you have!... and placed on 2-3..
Thanks, man. Same mic setup as before, really. The only real difference is that I threw a sub plugin on the kick channel just to enhance the thump a little. But yea. Same mics and cheap ass interface 🙂 I’m definitely due for an upgrade
Rob Brown wow you actually replied! I just wanted to say that I love your videos and the way that you teach your quality content. Not to mention your playing style is so unique and versatile. Just wanted to say that I appreciate your hard work😄

Thank for the lesson. Will absolutely share your channel with others.
Thanks a lot, man 🤘🏽

I ca artiest to that
Insanely musical exercise
I love how Rob doesn't over-hit his cymbals.
Them suckas are expensive, man. I'm just tryin' not to crack 'em 😉
He wants to make sure that his neighbours don't complain, 😁no, you are right he has fantastic control and dynamic, but you can feel the power.
They actually sound better with control. My cymbals never even moved when I would crash em and they sounded so much better. Same with the drums. They sound better with control
I've learned it and it really does just help you today around the kit. Thank you Rob! Best drum teacher on youtube in my opinion!
Huge compliment. I’ll takes it ✅ Thanks 🙏🏽
Great teaching Rob
I’ve been playing for more then 30 years but still improving my play thank to your simple and clear teaching
And having a lot of fun increasing my skills ! Cheers man ! Greetings from Brussels 😀
You are a great teacher. Thanks for slowing things down so I can grasp the complexity (or simplicity) of what’s going on.
I could never play the six stroke roll before - didn't know how to ! After practicing with Rob for a couple of months I am now playing it really well and my speed is improving on a weekly basis ! Thank you for some fantastic lessons Rob !

It ain't ALL smoke and mirrors, man. A lot of what we do can actually be pretty simple 🙂
Thanks so much for your videos. I've been a professional recording engineer all my life, and an amateur drummer, and I've finally decided to get serious about my playing. Your clear and patient lessons are a tremendous help, and your skill is inspiring.
The 6-stroke roll is easily the coolest rudiment. Killer lesson Rob.
Rob Brown's tutorials are absolutely terrific. I've learned so much from him. Thank you!
6 stroke rolls are great! Fantastic vid as usual, Rob!
Thanks so much, man! I've only been playing drums for a couple of months so I'm doing this exercise at 60 bpm. Moving around the kit like that is MEGA satisfying!
How’s your progress coming along my man?
Rob is like some crazy expert that has graced you with his presence in your basement. And he talks to you so cool that you get additional tidbits with the lesson. Just found him a couple of months ago and I will continue to check him out!

Ahh! So good. This is what i have been missing my whole life.

I really appreciate the detail in the teaching and breaking down the process love it excellent stuff

Thanks again Rob, been working on it . She is coming slow but the LEFT is a lot stronger than she used to be a month ago . THANK YOU !!!
Brother been waiting for this exercise! Worked really hard on the six stroke on the pad. I had to play it slower on the kit, because the sounds were throwing me off a bit. Thanks a bunch, man 🤓👊🏽 And you're welcome
Love the Six stroke roll in all catagories

Great lesson! Would love to see some Reggae series, i feel like there are not enough broken down serious lessons on the subject! Keep up the amazing work, this is my favorite drum channel hands down!
It's funny, man. My parents are from Kingston, Jamaica 🇯🇲 and I ain't got ONE reggae tutorial up in here. Might be time to get on that 🤔#OneDropSeries
Yaaaaa mooon!!! Thanks for the response, that would be truly Awesome! Was practicing the six stroke roll today, easy but tricky!!!
I’m an avid consumer of Rob’s videos; and really enjoy this practical context for the 6SR, but, for where I am in my drummer’s education, I would have enjoyed Rob playing through the kit at “student” half speed before running at “Rob” half speed. Just what I needed
Superb as usual!

Me and my big mouth. Be careful of what you wish for, you might get it! I just found this channel and checked out the other videos ... which were a quarter of a thousand videos hahaha! That should be "more of this" enough for me, right?
Welcome to the channel! 🙂👊🏽 Apologies for all the videos...and all the ones I got comin'. lol
haha well. just keep adding more videos and I'm prepared to forgive you! :D
That was awesome!!
11:25 hi-hat swish with LF, sweet addition!...but then I totally lost focus on the rest of the groove, LOL.
Hey Rob. Love watching your RUclips videos man. They have given me loads of inspriration. One thing I was wondering was what kind of lapel mic do you use on your videos though? Keep up the good work buddy:-)

I need help with getting faster on the 6 stroke roll , any tips thanks in advance
I can't find the other parts of this video. Did you delete them?
we need a flam lesson
You'll get one. You want fries with that?! 🙃🍟
Side of swiss triplets would be awesome.
I dig it man!! V cool 😎
Love the variation, starting on the and of one, then and of two......two different feels, with the same feel.......does that make sense? :-)
Hey Rob, great lesson man, been waiting for a long time for you to shoot tutorial about 6 stroke and thank you for it. One question, what are those things on top of your cymbals, are those from tama or?
Thank you man.Valeu!!!
One pretty cool more jazzy application is to throw the accents on crashes 👍
Lovin' the chops man!
I find Fills ending at the beginning of the next bar annoys me, when it becomes predictable it can get dull.
Through your playing I kept hearing RRLRLL down those beautiful toms you have!... and placed on 2-3..
Can you start putting the tempos you are playing too, please!
A question! Did you change your mic setup or something because your kit sounds so organic with more depth and tone?
Thanks, man. Same mic setup as before, really. The only real difference is that I threw a sub plugin on the kick channel just to enhance the thump a little. But yea. Same mics and cheap ass interface 🙂 I’m definitely due for an upgrade
At 5:32 in the video he did a 5 stroke roll. Now I gotta start all over again. Damnit!
Exelente
What is the speed of the metronome?
Hey rob what splash do you have sitting on your crash
That's an 8" Paiste Signature 🤩
wooow, what ride is that?
Left handed drummers can we start with the left hand
Thanks something I can really use...(after practicing of course)
Wooow!!
V nice
Need to show the 80/20 drummer 6 stroke rolls 😂
yo
Help on developing speed
I’m late!
Thas aight. The important thing is showin' up! 👊🏽
Rob Brown wow you actually replied! I just wanted to say that I love your videos and the way that you teach your quality content. Not to mention your playing style is so unique and versatile. Just wanted to say that I appreciate your hard work😄
