I always wished Combat Mission had a co-op feature. Imagine doing a company scale mission with each player controlling a platoon, or a combined arms operation where one player commands the infantry and the other armour. It would make those larger scale missions more manageable and a blast
This is possible! You you can give out your orders, save your turn and send it to your friendly player, who then ends the turn and send it to the opposite team. I already played a 2vs2 match in fortress Italy. 2 Companies of British paratroopers against Italian and German Soldiers... the poor guy, who had to play as Italy...
just need to stream the game have have a few bros radio in (voice chat) how they want their platoon to move and the streamer guy just input all teh command

Yes it dose if you play the the NATO campaign or missions you fight under strict ROE and even if you can plaster a town, keep every single one of troops alive you will loose the battle and the enemy wins.Your solider and you have your orders. You there to get rid of the Syrian troops not the civilians. Murdering women and children is not acceptable.
God I love Combat Mission, it's such a unique game that really makes you use tactical knowledge like no other, it lets you actually use the tactics of the real world in a way that would be called "roleplay" in ARMA. It really is the ultimate in WarGaming. And as a fun side note, it has some excellent youtube creators! Usually Hapless is an example, he's currently making tutorial videos for the steam release, Josey Wales is another excellent player but with a less frequent upload schedule. I really can't recommend getting into this game enough, it will single handedly change your outlook on wargaming!

(you can still get in and get gears if its abandoned, but not knock out. ofc, if its on fire, i wouldnt go in) and there is no flare for night ops... well, thats my main complain, xuz i like to play the underdog and thr lack of flare really makes me struggle against russian and american

Absolutely love these games, glad to see them getting more attention. I definitely think you should play in the WEGO/Turn based mode, as that allows you to skip time and gives you exponentially more control over your troops.

Hey Rimmy - In Combat Mission there are still sometimes things that are simulated but not portrayed in the graphics (yet). For instance when you were worried about the flat seemingly devoid of cover terrain at the 10:35 mark - depending on the terrain type the simulation takes into account micros cover. Natural deviations in normal ground.

The idea was to make a strategy war simulator that played like chess, so it was alright if it took a long time because you weren't expected to be in a rush anyway. You even had the option to play it like Chess-by-Mail, with two human players able to upload their decisions to the game at their leisure so you could spread the experience out over time, instead of having to block off several hours at once. I was a bit bummed when graphics compatibility issues made it impractical to play on my new desktop years ago, but the basic premise is still sound. I would be keen to see how the series is these days.

It's awesome seeing combat mission hitting steam and youtube because when I was little I would play around with Barbarossa to Berlin and Afrika Korps (not at all well), and it brings back some very fun memories
very nice video. when i got in contact with combat mission, all other games i know had to be compared to it. until today, no other game has even come close to matching the combat mission games. It would be a pleasure for me to see the combat mission games from you, which were set in the second world war.
Please play more of this game bro, the exposure will really help the game developers grow. And you gotta try it out with mods. Modding is the staple of the CM series
I actually had a copy of a disk of the first game. Its quite interesting at first. I always play custom/skirmish to just see the US and Syrian tanks take out insurgency. Can't believe you played it to.
I want to say this looks like a cross between Eugens Wargame series and ARMA which is a combination I never knew I wanted. I will give you an IOU for someone else's firstborn child for more of this.

LOVE this game. Hadn't even heard about it before it was announced that it'd hit steam, got the demo and fell in love. Bought the full DLC package. The campaign is pretty epic as losses are carried over from mission to mission so you don't just have to win, you have to do it with minimal casulties as well or you'll be screwed over down the line. Worst part is that you have to unlearn pretty much everything RTS-gaming has taught you over the last 20 years though, or you will have you face smashed in on a regular basis. Video-game logic gotta go, and you have to actually go back to your basic training from the army (you know, if you've ever been in one) to figure out how to best do stuff. And that is the amazing thing, shit I was taught back in basic IRL actually WORKS in this game.
If ArmA had intelligent and dangerous AI that worked in squads with combined arms, even potentially using artillery units in the rear-line to harass enemy forces before coming in with armour to finish off any sort of assault...I'd hate it, but I'd love it at the same time.

It's great to see a game i love coming to steam. The pvp is great, the single player is great. You can even email a save game back and forth to play if you and your friend can't play at the same time. I prefer the turn based mode, but each their own. I'm just happy at the chance to play with more people. Also a side note, in the turn based mode there is a speed up button.

One thing I've thought would be fun would be to use spectator/Zeus as a pseudo RTS game, so you've got the masterminds placing orders, and you've got the units on the ground following orders. Might already have been done, might just be impossible, but I think it'd be neat to try
There were a series of RTS maps for Operation Flashpoint, did they never get re-made for ARMA? It was fucking awesome having full-scale wars with player built bases, The thrill of sneaking into the enemy base with Satchel charges to demolish their Tech buildings was something else!

There's actually a mod that changes the UI color for non-confirmed enemy contacts to greyed out so you don't confuse them with the red "?" markers.
