I just made one... you gotta go as compact as you can, just like he did here. But I went with pedals that have more versatility than some of these. (JHS Muffaletta for 6 Muff models, for example) Mine is Muff-Walrus Julia-Boss DD-500-Source Audio Ventris
I was expecting blues licks into a big muff and a reverb like every other major channel does when they attempt a shoegaze sound. I was pleasantly surprised!
@@luispereztasso I feel like the Muff lacks a bit of clarity that is needed for this type of music. I feel like a Boss Blues Driver, or a Boss Heavy Metal (discontinued) would work better.
@@aguynamedjosh1 that's why I recommend the blackout effectors musket, the preamp in the circuit brings a lot of clarity and dynamics, and if you can dial it correctly you can find a really juicy distortion (not fuzz) with good low end
Reverse reverb is definitely the MBV sound, but tons of modern shoegaze bands use different methods. The band Nothing for example uses mostly an OCD and TC Hall Of Fame
man walrus audio slo is my favorite pedal i wish i had this years and years ago haha also, its cool to watch andy grow up lol ive been a fan for a long time, and hes a killer guitarist
my studio/mixing instincts have always told me to put reverb after distortion, but as a guitar player it's a different game. it's very interesting looking at that sidekick pedal now that i've built a few, clearly there's an FV1 in there for the reverb algorithms. dope that it's got BBD too. another great demo, thanks!
Just now took a Diiv 😉 into this genre. I know I'm extremely late. 😂🎶🎸 Great job Andy. I have an analog delay, reverb, flanger & a distortion pedal. I'll get it a shot. Loved the video...🎶🎸👍
My personal favorite shoegaze setup is a Palisades running through an Afterneath, with an Aquaduct and Pyramids for modulation, and a Canyon for delay. All effects played through an Acoustic 140 Bass Head (great for guitar!) and a Sunn 1x18 Cab.
I got myself a mulberry mist double agent a few months back...dude...its absolutely insane. I can not recommend Reverend enough. Thinking this won't be my last guitar from them
Cool sounds Andy, I knew you had a shoegazer in you! Make more of these, maybe with vintage analog pedals for the next round! Real tape delays, maybe like an Electro Harmonix line of Memory man, Stereo Mistress, The Clone Theory, HOG, small stone, old muffs! Or maybe all Meris stuff would be awesome + dirts of your choice
A great pedal for a mini shoegaze board is the obne procession v2. Reverb with mix and level up to 100% wet, a hold button that you can play over, trem, flanger, and filter you can all control by external expression or use expression for the reverb level. Pretty crazy box for how small it is.
@@Carlos-fz4md hmmm if you didn't like the classics (MBV, Slowdive, Ride), you can go to the new ones: sweet trip, have a nice life, m83 (only the first album), deerhunter, sigur ros, and of course beach house
I am so stoked shoegaze has had renewed interest in the past few years. I loved it so hard when it was a new thing. Then everyone tried to distance themselves from it for a long time.
Shoegaze was 25 years too early. Especially Slowdive, which was hated at the time and the seed they planted made them one of the most influential bands for the last 10 years of indie music
The best reverse reverb I’ve used is the Keeley Loomer (or Realizer which only contains the reverb side of the Loomer). Another great reverb for shoegaze is the Earthquaker Afterneath. I’ve also found that blending tape echo and chamber reverb with a chorus and either light boost or compression really does a great Cocteau Twins sound.
Beautiful playing Andy! I'll play this one over and over just to learn what you were doing. You sounded great! If this Reverb thing doesn't work out for you, You can give MBV and Swervedriver a run for their money :)
Yeah great vid I’m A huge fan of the eqd nightwire Trem you can effect the speed with how hard your attack is super trippy and I also really love the Caroline kilobyte it has a momentary switch that goes To infinity when pressed and distortion as an option on the repeats of the delay I use the two of those all the time with other pedals and reverb to make them feed back into infinity I have a ton of pedals and change them around a bunch but those two are never leaving my board
Will Reverb delve into the Tom Scbolz/Boston formula? I myself have discovered through tinkering with my Boss ME-80 that the Metal Zone and its unusual range of EQ is capable of emulating the early Boston guitar sound and elements of the Scholz Rockman Sustainer module p, just by rolling back the gain to somewhere between 3 and 5. The chorus and delay speak for themselves. Haven’t totally squared away the compressor envelope, but I’m getting closer. I bet you guys/gals at Reverb could do better than me at assembling the sound.
I don't know if anything Andy recommends here is that excessive (pun intended). You don't need these pedals for shoegaze, but these pedals (mostly) have many more features than say a Boss DD-7. I'd imagine it might be less headache than tracking down those old rack units and discontinued pedals that MBV and Slowdive etc. used also. But, you should check out the Zoom CDR. You can stack up to six effect types and create some really cool gazy/ambient tones. I discovered a patch on the Zoom reddit forum that emulates the Soft Focus patch in that old Yamaha unit Slowdive used on record. For $100 new it'll certainly do the job, though you may may want to upgrade later.
Pretty new to pedals; how much of an effect does the guitar he’s using have on the sounds produced? Wondering how these same pedals will sound with my guitar compared to his
These pedals should work similarly with any guitar you use. You'll notice minor differences in tone, but honestly you can get a good sound with almost any guitar
