So... Now What? She Kills it just like the ones before her did but this talent takes it to another level. Bad transfer of file but I do have the original packed away nicely ;)
LOVE IT JH. Now for all the naysayers, this is why Aretha, the Queen of Soul chose Jennifer to portray her in the up coming movie, "ARETHA"

I have been listening to soul music for over 40 years and Aretha is the undisputed Queen of soul and I usually pity anyone that's stupid enough to tackle one of her songs, but I have to say that Jennifer Hudson hit this one out of the park. I put this up there with Fantasia's Rock Steady performance and Ms Jill Scott's tribute to Aretha. So don't hate on Ms Hudson. the woman can truly sing.
She did this!!!!!!! its hard to cover her and jhud voice so big she do sometimes yell but she didnt on this one. she stayed in her range and hit the notes right, and it was powerful!
One of my all-time favorites. If you're going to cover Aretha you'd better have the voice for it and she did. I wish her backing singers threw a little more out though. Also, it's missing that sensual, almost hungry vibe I like in Arethas. I wish I had the voice to sing this song to myself.
Aretha and Jennifer both have done justice to this song. I have heard both Oletta Adams and Irma Thomas both do a cover,All of these fine ladies have brought their musicianship and soul to the front.

Jennifer has a great voice but when she sings it just feels like a performance. When Aretha sings you get goosebumps. Aretha has an annointing when she sings. So effortlessly and beautifully delivers the message in a song. You feel it. Whether it's dance music or expressions of love, which will bring you to tears. I Love you so much Aretha Franklin. I will cherish this Amazing gift of song you've shared with the world forever. You are the "Queen"!!!!
Lovely One Hudson feels so rehearsed. With Aretha, you get whatever emotion she’s feeling at that exact moment. Like she’s improvising. Notice Hudson used Aretha’s arrangement instead of coming up with her own.

Jennifer is a good singer, I think it's 2kinds of singers one that practice and sing good, and one like Aretha that was born with it, she was born with it in HER
AWWWWW...she's singing incorrect lyrics on the chorus. Why? Why/ WHY do the folks who hear and rehearse with singers let them go out and mess up in such a way???? You gotta sing the correct lyrics child, damn!
Patti does it in her 1991 concert DVD called "The Diva Medley" She does a great and different version but I love bothe Aretha's and Patti's!

JHud always over sings. Too much belting where it should relax. She doesn't let the song build naturally to it's climax.
No one can sing a song after Miss Aretha. Not even the writer or the singer before her. Once she sang it; it was hers. She owned it. Miss Hudson couldn't do the song justice for that reason alone.
Much prefer Lulu or B J Thomas, This is a load of crap, too affected overdone.
Such an amazing artist!!! Truely one of the greatest voice and vocalist of our time.

It wasn't really her....the band was too loud.....they were outta pocket so to speak.....the drums ampt her.....when its PEEK time....she passed it.....but she should have sang see saw or Dr feel good...

This is wonderful. Jennifer is the next generation, and thank God, she has the pipes to sing it. Following in the footsteps of Aretha and Lulu. Not bad company. All three are magnificent vocalists.

First, it is an illegal downloaded performance so I can appreciate her effort. Second, she's changing the chorus on purpose. I think she is going to play Aretha in the movie version of the Queen's life.

I listened to the original before watching this video... The notes in Aretha's voice is higher; Jennifer's voice takes it to another level. I don't dislike it but I love Aretha's voice more. Maybe because my voice is on the soprano side and I can sing along with Aretha but I wouldn't be able to keep up with Jennifer's style.
Jennifer is going to be so good as Aretha on the biopic.

I appreciate and like Mrs. Hudson, but she sang this song and Mrs. Aretha Franklin touched our senses, body and heart by singing. First Queen Aretha and then Mrs. Hudson. And it will stay that way forever.

Yes, and she did a better job than all the GD DIVAS. Divas make me sick. They make the song all about themselves, to the point where I can't even recognize it. Lulu's version still stands as the best version, IMHO.

Too powerful! She needs to rain that voice in. Aretha is impossible to emulate. The greatest exponent of technical control and emotional delivery combined. But I respect Jennifer as I can see she's greatly inspired and influence by Aretha. And she has turned out some fantastic versions of other people's songs ie Al Green's Simply Beautiful. X

Sang that Jennifer!!! Whew!!! Girl sent chills through me. This is why Aretha chose her. This was at Thelonious Monk Jazz Institute. They were honoring Aretha for her contributions. She was actually in the audience. I'm sure she enjoyed this.

True, Jennifer Hudson is a good singer...but this was not a good performance. There was absolutely no sensitivity shown at any part. That was the beauty of the song. And that ending.....really???? She hits that exact same high note as in Dreamgirls. In my opinion, she has yet to give a proper Aretha tribute. Leave it to Patti, Fantasia, and Karen....they are just a little more ARETHAFIED than you.

I love Jennifer but I hate when she performs this song. She sings the wrong lyrics. She sings "Call Me Oh My" but the lyrics is Oh me Oh My...it's literally the song title. She doesn't caress the lyrics in no parts of the song. Aretha took her time with this song and built it up. Jennifer just powers through it. I love Jennifer's power but she has to learn to interpret a song. This was 7 years ago though and she has improved some. Unfortunately, her diction hasn't gotten better.
