imagine being as cool as frank zappa, and then along comes your 14 year old daughter, like all 14 year old daughters, and tells you what an enormous dork and how uncool you are...I love this family.

but i believe he would have retreated into classical like totally or maybe even phsyics or something. I grew up as a musician that did not read notes. I had to adjust within the mtv world, the outcome was a slightly more technical dave grohl. With an darker egde songwriting wise, my scream is not as good to be honest, or not as high. and with the end of mtv as a unit shifter came the end of identification. now music is all orchestra, means professionally trained musicians play all styles to earn money as a product, even metal is "take that" now. By that youth culture basically got banned. Zappa would have been bullied out of the music scene today if he played unrafined and instinctive as he did. Of course he is the most rafined composer ever and super fast in doing so. But every turd outplays eddie van halen now(not talking about outfeeling) gizzard he would like em if he listened to all the material but at first glance he would perceive them as a 70s rip off. because everything is genius until it becomes a preset. and if something unique comes out of a preset thats fine too and thats the case with gizzard.

I always like to think he would’ve been a fan of The Mars Volta

Justin Timberlake? Seriously? Frank Zappa didn't even like Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd or the Beatles back in the day. He thought that even they generally sucked and were boring. If he had lived into the 21st century, by 2002 his head would have literally exploded from how bad music became. He would have fucking hated EVERYTHING now. In this interview he praises Gentle Giant when they were at their peak in 1975. Gentle GIant's composition was the closest thing to his own. He said he liked them, but basically that's about it. If it was below that level, it just wasn't really good enough for him. Justin Timberlake is like at the bottom of the ocean compared to Gentle Giant. Maybe Moon doesn't really understand her father's musical mind that much actually. He was the most cynical and hard to please artist I know of. What a weird answer by Moon. You'd probably get an answer much more like my own from Dweezil. ruclips.net/video/6gvtLa0R7kQ/видео.html

I stopped taking Zappa seriously when he said the Rolling Stones were better than the Beatles. Really? One changed the face of popular music while the other was, essentially, a pub rock band who got lucky. Plus, most of Zappa's output after the mid seventies was un-listenable, as he took his synclavier and disappeared up his own arse hole.

I wish he would have lived long enough to have jammed with AH. An album by Frank with Allan on guitar, that's my sonic fantasy.

I’m the biggest Beatles fan I know and I also like the stones. Beatles all day, however Frank said they were “okay” he didn’t say it in a condescending or belittling way. He said it in an “I approve” kind of way. He did say that he preferred The Rolling Stones because they were more R&B based. That’s his personal taste. He admired a few Beatles songs including Strawberry Fields Forever. Zappa was no musical dummy, of course he understood that SFF was far beyond anything the stones released including 2,000 Light Years From Home. He just had his preferences and there’s nothing wrong with that.

@@dstanif You don't have to take my word for it. There are literally thousands of interviews with Frank available all over the place and when asked about how he felt about the music other people was making at that time in the 60s and 70s, he had very little positive to say about any band. His standards for what he found interesting were so high that even the best from the best era wasn't really enough for him. And as it got into the 80s and 90s, he basically hated everything new. It got worse and worse. Moon actually completely contradicts everything you can easily learn about Frank yourself just by listening to him talk about it.
