You know what ...after Frank tries to convey common sense to all the young people in the audience ,he then goes home and puts the finishing touches to Thingfish. What a fabulous guy
It's fascinating to see a talk show aimed at kids that presents things to them as if they are actual real, thinking, human beings able to comprehended real issues and thoughts. Must have been a neat time to be alive.
Yeah, it was a really great interview and i loved the kids questions. I wonder what conversation that boy who asked about kids swearing had with his parents that night.
Currently reading 'Earth to Moon', Moon Unit's autobiography about growing up in the Zappa family. It is quite brilliant, and shows the family was not a bed of roses.
I agree with you. I recently received my copy and I was very surprised at a lot of what Moon revealed. I'm also watching a few of her interviews about the book as well.
I like how Frank talks to the little Black kid like he is talking to an adult. He elevates the child by not trying to dumb down what he's saying, he gives the kid credit for knowing what he's talking about. A whole lot of adults don't do that. Much respect.
It's what the best teachers do, academic or otherwise. They are still kids so you frame things in a way they understand, but they are people trying understand the world, just like we all are. I have a lot of problems with Zappa as I've grown out of hero worship and yet I still like to hear him talk.
Being a child of the Nickelodeon generation, my mind has been blown today finding on that Zappa was on nickeloden in the 80’s, AND THEY PLAYED “YOU ARE WHAT YOU IS”! My how things have changed, I could just imagine executives getting fired if that aired on that channel today and #cancelnickeloden trending 😂😂😂
Wow, Nickelodeon! Don't think the YAWYI video would get on the air today. At least not without censor. And what a great exchange with the kids. I look forward to reading Moon's book.
😱 I love what Moon is wearing here. Would wear this now 💯 she has great style. How did people not know the song Valley Girl was satire?! I was 13 when it came out and completely understood she was making fun of that culture.
been around offical since 1979, however, technically many would aruge it's been around since 1977, with it's origins being from the pinwheel channel on the experimental cabel tv system, Qube
Quite ironic for him to defend a non-traditional reductionist form of speaking in one breath, and then attack valley girl speak for the rest of the interview.
The kid with the blues voice... And the lie about the family being a tight unit...Moon and Frank know that's not true but the official thing to do is to pretend that it was. It gets so awkward watching this, now that we know better.
listening to the audio book ... I'm curious what the other 3 kids think ... I don't think we ever will ... Diva was born like in 79 by the time she was 10 ... Well sadly you know .... Frank career and life were winding down ... And then came Gail ....

indeed, very one of a kind!
And fucking a brief case!

Thanks for you comments. Real issue indeeds, not the mindless shows that are presented these days.

@@johnsorrelw849 Yep!
Yep it was, but of the little but of tv there was most of it was trash lol
What a trip to see this on Nickelodeon.
I can’t believe that was on a kids show.
Yeah Nickelodeon doesn't do that anymore. They just go straight to raping them.
A better tv experience than 99,9% of todays "serious" talks...
This is the Nickelodeon I remember. Early 80’s Nickelodeon was amazing
It was a different product back then.
Catholic Girls...ok kids, sing along !
This guys kind of a good interview conductor

@@petabulmer3317 Same here. She comes across really well in those interviews.
@@Alun49 Yes. Moon is very smart. Thanks for responding. Have a great whatever time it is for you!😀

Dweezil was involved with Nickelodeon as well.
Been a Zappa freak since early 70s. It's a treat to find all these videos from the 80s when I didn't watch TV. I still miss Frank.
Glad you liked it.
If MTV couldn't play "You Are What You Is", then why not Nickelodeon as long as it's canvased on "Livewire"? 😄😄
So Cool with the kids...and what a charming daughter Moon is!
Cleanest copy of the video of Your are what you is I’ve ever seen. Thanks!
Cool! Thanks Alan!
I’ve never seen this uncensored version before
watching from australia im very impressed with this show, frank and his daughter just really excellent, well done nickelodeon, thumbs up
I like how we all dressed very modestly back then AND it was cool!!! 57yrs old....
40 years later and still relevant.
This might be the most pleasant I've ever seen Frank in an interview.
This song and the interview are so relevant to today, and that was part of Franks brilliant legacy
Brilliant! Moons lovely. And what a way to start a kids show! I hope those kids took on board the notions behind the song. Great stuff!

play at 0.75 speed for roots reggae
Both a class act!
Who misses Frank more than I do?
Ummmm....I'll just take a wild guess and say maybe HIS CHILDREN?
Dinah MO Hum ?
Wow. Livewire is a straight up THROWBACK!!😅😂Fred Newman is so underrated.
As the algorithm cuts all things according to certain criteria with its mighty axe.
Those Finnadookies didn't even realize he was making fun of how they talk.
Reagan with a harp rack ...
provocative imagery.
Donut on a Ku Klux cone...
three much!
The kids asked good questions. Didn't sound staged. Don't think today's kids would be able to ask or even articulate this way.
Also read Moon’s mind boggling book!
OOOOPS! my fault. audio is good.
If Frank was still here, he would kick the crap out of Cancel Culture for sure. 🎶🎵🎸
He wouldn't care at all.
They would be crying MOMMY, MOMMY!!😛🤣
@@massapower Who? MAGA? They do that 24/7 anyway.

21st Century and NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has ever reached FRANK'S intelligence, Musical GENIUS & COMPOSER! 😎👍🏻👍🏻
Smart KIDS in the Audience 😁

If we teach the children well will BE a better world 💐
Did Frank.perform " Dirty Love" on Nickelodeon? How bout Catholic Girls ?
moon is like the dream daughter. what a cool thing to look at and be like "YA I MADE THAT"
Yep
Playing the saint as usual! He did coke with Sabbath!
I thought he was anti drug.😮
BS
Moon i was hot for her when i was younger and now she is a hotty to me. And i am a dork. Cute.
Why no audio ?
Which Nickelodeon executive was fired for playing this video on children's TV?...
HAHA!
